Foreword
Energy conservation and demand management program is one
of the most important strategic functions of any electric utility.
K-Electric (KE) has also adopted energy conservation and energy
efficiency improvement programs as part of its commitment to
global climate change goals towards a more sustainable future.
KE Energy Conservation Department (ECD) is creating real
impact in this regard for KE’s consumers.
This effort includes awareness campaigns as well as voluntary
load curtailment effort by educating and conducting free of cost
energy audits for its energy intensive consumers. So far ECD has
achieved a load curtailment of roughly 46MW of load
optimization. Power factor improvement (PFIP) is another key
area with extremely effective operational optimization of
roughly 430 MVA.
KE ECD as part of its continued as well as new programs plans to
inculcate the global best practices towards achieving energy
efficiency within its own various buildings and operations.
The department periodically engages with schools, local
community organizations, multi laterals, public sector
consumers and others to implement different energy
conservation programs.
Business Objectives
 To implement the K-Electric climate change policy 2013
through its core goals of energy conservation and energy
efficiency improvements resulting in carbon foot print
reduction by creating mass awareness among both our
internal and external customers.
 To promote and execute energy efficiency and demand
management practices to bridge the shortfall between
demand and supply of electricity in K-Electric’s system
resulting in measurable cost savings for both the consumer
and the company.
 To introduce and implement global best practices towards
energy efficiency and energy conservation by forming
linkages between international electric utilities, multi-
lateral and development agencies, research institutions,
public and private sector with K-Electric in particular and
our consumers, local community organizations, and the city
of Karachi in general.
 To facilitate and support various government agencies in
providing guidelines and feedback towards policy
formulation and implementation regarding energy
conservation and energy efficiency improvement related
issues.
 To promote the use of green and renewable energy
technologies and by harnessing energy from clean energy
sources MW ≤ 5 distributed generation as well as reclamation
of depleted natural resources.
Departmental Highlights
Faisal Ahmad took over as the new functional head of the
Energy Conservation department effective August 24th 2015.
Mr. Asif Hussain Siddiqui left company after a long and
illustrious career with K-Electric ECD wishes Asif Sahab all
the best.

ECD conducted a total of BTL 02 and Smart Energy Drive
activities 06 on the technical advisory 10 Audit 151 PFIP
cases.
* * * * *
Branding of all 28 KE IBCs with energy conservation
message rolled out with first IBC of Saddar.
* * * * *
Team of World Bank consultants from Islamabad visited ECD
to begin work and data collection for a World Bank funded
study on integrating Solar distributed generation with in
K-Electric network.
* * * * *
NCFL program has accomplished its major mile stones
within the project timeline. K-Electric is the only distribution
company to achieve and fulfill its obligation under this
program.
* * * * *
ECD was able to secure an offer to get free of cost solar
panels to be installed at KE-House. The proposal is now
under final review by project procurement.
(In accordance with “Climate Change” Policy)
 Capacity margin released /Induced into the system by improving Power factor.
 Power factor plays an integral role in the stability of any electrical system, it is essential to have up
to unity power factor not less than 0.9 in order to have a reliable system with correct amount of
apparent power drawn from the system as per load requirement.

Smart Energy Drive/Academic Interactive Sessions
This is to inform you that ECD successfully conducted two BTL activities “All Pakistan
Memon Federation(APMF) and Industrial Electronic Electrical Exhibition of Pakistan
(IEEEP) “ respectively at Karachi Expo. The main objective of this activities is to
educate people to adopt energy conservation practices and switching them towards
energy efficient lifestyle .
A large numbers of visitors from different walk of life actively participated & approx
1.5 million people visited in both event. The event were inaugurated by Mr. Zubair
Motiwala & Federal Minister of Industries. EC team distributed literatures /
brochures regarding energy savings and provided energy efficient lighting solutions
through demo which was very much appreciated by the visitors.
We have also arranged quiz contest in which large numbers of people gathered &
giveaways have been given to those for active participation. Approx 400 forms were
filled during this event.
The management of APMF and IEEEP appreciated the role of KE towards energy
conservation and awarded shield in this regard.

  • 12. This is to inform you that ECD successfully conducted two BTL activities “All Pakistan Memon Federation(APMF) and Industrial Electronic Electrical Exhibition of Pakistan (IEEEP) “ respectively at Karachi Expo. The main objective of this activities is to educate people to adopt energy conservation practices and switching them towards energy efficient lifestyle . A large numbers of visitors from different walk of life actively participated & approx 1.5 million people visited in both event. The event were inaugurated by Mr. Zubair Motiwala & Federal Minister of Industries. EC team distributed literatures / brochures regarding energy savings and provided energy efficient lighting solutions through demo which was very much appreciated by the visitors. We have also arranged quiz contest in which large numbers of people gathered & giveaways have been given to those for active participation. Approx 400 forms were filled during this event. The management of APMF and IEEEP appreciated the role of KE towards energy conservation and awarded shield in this regard. BTL Activities At Expo Center
