Burrowing Owls Essay
Burrowing owls are an amazing species of owl that is currently in danger. Historically, the owl
resides in Canada, the United States, and Mexico. This species is migratory through most of its
range, breeding in North American and spending the winter south of the border in Mexico. The
burrowing owl breeds March through July. The owl nests in a burrow made by other small
mammals, and lines the burrow with grasses, feathers, and other natural resources. The owl can lay
up to eleven eggs, but usually only lay three to six. The eggs are incubated for about twenty eight
days, and the owlets usually fledge after forty two days, around September. Burrowing owls diets
consist of small mammals and insects such as mice and grasshoppers. Although this is their main
diet they... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Without proper nourishment and food the species cannot reproduce and expand their species
further. Reproduction is vital to any species because it continues the growth and increases
biodiversity. If any animal species were to stop breeding, it would slowly cause extinction of the
species. Burrowing owls are not at the top of the food chain, which makes them prey for other
animals.
Baby burrowing owls are clearly the biggest predators in their habitat. There are many reasons as
to why burrowing owls are rapidly declining due to death. Burrowing owls have been killed by
predators, starvation due to food shortage, vehicle accidents, and shooting accidents. Wandering
pet cats have recently become detrimental to many wildlife species. These house cats are
responsible for the deaths of more than a billion birds in North America each year. Cats have a
devastating impact on native wildlife such as the burrowing owl. The issue of pesticides infecting
the burrowing owls is still under investigation. The owls also may be coming in contact with
pesticides indirectly through other animals they are using as a food

Viktor Frankl and the Development of Logotherapy
Viktor Emil Frankl was born on March, 26th 1905, at Czeringassa 7, in Leopoldstadt, in Vienna
Austria, where Sigmund Freud and Alfred Alder also grew up (Klingberg, 2014). He was the
middle child out of three children. His older brother, Walter was two and a half years older, and
his younger sister, Stella, was four years younger. His mother was Elsa Frankl, was a polish
woman from Prague with a gentle manner. His father, Gabriel Frankl, had been a hard working
man who was the Director of Social Affairs (Redsand, 2006). By the time Frankl was four years
old he knew he wanted to be a doctor and he pursued that interest while into high school. He took
classes focused on psychology and philosophy. He began corresponding with Freud when he was...

He then developed what he called paradoxical intention. Paradoxical intention is a method which
encourages one to image themselves pushing into their fear rather than running from it, such as
a patient suffering from insomnia (Pg.112, Frankl, 2006). Instead of focusing on falling asleep
the patient would be asked to focus very hard on staying awake. The success of the paradoxical
intention is called dereflection, which is when the patient is focused back on the task. He met
his wife, Tilly Grossner, a nurse at the hospital, and they were married in 1941, and she was
pregnant shortly after. In 1942 he was granted a visa to the United States, which would get him
safely away from the concentration camps; however the visa was only good for him. He went to
his father who had a block of marble from the ruins of a burned down synagogue. The marble had
an etching of part of one of the Ten Commandments, which Viktor inquired about. The marble
represented the commandment Honor thy father and mother that thy days may be long upon the
land. (Pg.11, Frankl, 2006). Upon hearing this Viktor decided to stay with his family. The Nazis
had forced Tilly to have an abortion as Jews weren t allowed to have children (Redsand, 2006).
Frankl began working on a book titled The Doctor and the Soul and sewed it into his jacket to
keep it hidden. The manuscript was the basic fundamentals of his logotheory. In July of the same
year later his family was deported to the

Compare William Shakespeare’s Sonnets 12 and 73 Essay
Compare William Shakespeare s Sonnets 12 and 73
William Shakespeare (1564 1616) wrote a group of 154 sonnets between
1592 and 1597, which were compiled and published under the title
Shakespeare s Sonnets in 1609. The 154 poems are divided into two groups, a larger set, consisting
of sonnets 1 126 which are addressed by the poet to a dear young man, the smaller group of sonnets
127 154 address another persona, a dark lady . The larger set of sonnets display a deliberate
sequence, a sonnet cycle akin to that used a decade earlier by the English poet Phillip Sidney (1554
1586) in
Astrophel and Stella . The themes of love and infidelity are dominant in both sets of poems, in the
larger grouping; these themes are

He accepts this, and sees that his love will last forever even though he may not be there to

Sonnet 12, unlike sonnet 73, is made up of an octave, for observation, and a sestet, for reflection.
The iambic pentameters in this sonnet reflect the ticking of a clock, to display the passage of
time. The first line is a very obvious example of the passing of time, when I do count the clock
that tells the time . The person is counting the clocks chimes, giving an audible sound to the
reader of the clock, which is very important. The second line, and see the brave day sunk in
hideous night , gives an almost visual suggestion of brightness and gallantry by the word brave ;
as opposed to the ugliness and darkness of the hideous night . The poet also uses personification
to describe the brave day , which emphasises his youth and foolhardiness which is taken by the
coming night. When I behold the violet past prime , the violet is emblematic of the Spring and
new life and growth, prime also means the period of perfection, which is considered to be Spring.
The poet has used past prime to convey that once was young and fresh is now fading and dying.
Reflecting the ephemeral nature of life, which he is losing and that has nearly totally left him.
The following line describes the sable hair of youth is turned all silvered o er with white , meaning

The Importance Of Western Classical Singing
Introduction
Western classical singing is aim at producing a good quality, clear, natural, relax, and overall loud
enough sound in singing. Vibrato is an important technique in good western classical and operatic
singing. The pitch of the notes quickly changing up and down makes vibrato. It is one of the
important means of musical performance. Like violin, Chinese erhu and other string instruments
playing with rubbing strings. Italian vocal school more likely to say: the key point to tell is it a
good singing, is to see whether there has vibrato or not. (Helen Mitchell, 2004)
Open throat is the way to achieve vibrato. The term open throat is describing the throat in a lack of
tension situation, then lack of constriction and a better ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The conclusions of the research
Researchers estimated that open throat strategy would create discernable contrasts in vocal quality
and this was affirmed by the perceptual investigation. Audiences were solid in their judgements and
reliably distinguished the strategy in rehashed tests. Singers vocal quality created discernable sound
quality contrasts in 85.3% of optimal and 80.0% of sub optimal tests, which audiences credited to
the educational guideline of open throat . This investigation affirmed teachers acknowledgment of a
central system in established singing beforehand characterised by master educators by a particular
sound quality. Facilitate investigation of the perceptual characteristics of this strategy is the subject
of progressing research by these authors.
Educational and perceptual investigations concur that substandard vibrato is easy to recognise and
shows deficient strategy or poor vocal quality. Regardless of whether decreased vibrato degree and
postponed vibrato beginning are outcomes of diminished open throat system particularly, or the
essential elements saw as open throat or without a doubt any procedure utilised as a part of good
singing needs promote examination. Vibrato alone does not really convey the acoustic signals of
vocal quality to audiences, yet perceptually, in this investigation, the best quality was related with
open throat method.

Essay on Psycho by Alfred Hitchcock
Psycho by Alfred Hitchcock
A running theme that is presented to the audience in Psycho is the opposition that exists between
good and evil. This is shown throughout the movie among the different characters. Examples can
also be taken from conflicts within the characters. Certain conflicts and how the characters deal
with them and each other are what shape the structure of the movie. The perception that the
audience receives of the characters change throughout the movie by the different conflicts that arise.
These conflicts show the audience many sides of good and evil portrayed by the different characters.

At this point the audience is drawn towards Marion s flight. They want her to succeed. Her goals
have become the viewers goals. With Marion, the audience loses all power of rational control,
and discovers how easily a normal person can lapse into a condition usually associated with
neurosis. After her encounter with the cop, Marion quickly loses her ability to think rationally.
She starts to imagine conversations, and knows that Sam will never accept the money. This fact
itself shows that her sense of logic is gone. A rationally thinking person would have realized that
she would never get away with the crime. As Marion drives on into darkness rain begins to fall
heavily. The viewers begin to feel as Marion does, hopeless and weary. Her endless journey takes a
turn due to an illumination on the side of the road.
Marion exits her car at the Bates motel and finds a deserted office. She then turns to discover a
large Transylvanian type house on the hill above the motel. A shadow is seen walking past an
upstairs window, then a young man is then seen running down the stairs to greet her. He introduces
himself as the proprietor of the motel, Norman Bates. As he is checking her in the two begin to
converse. Norman finds out that Marion is very hungry. He offers to fix her dinner in the kitchen
of the house on the hill. He shows her to her room and tells her to make herself comfortable. He
said he would return once dinner was done. As

Argumentative Essay On Slam Poetry
Defending Slam Poetry as Art with Denise Frohman and Daniel Beaty Art is considered by some
as undefinable, and many other individuals have their very own definition of art. Poetry is one
well known form of art, and within poetry there is another form of poetry which is slam poetry.
Slam poetry is a very unique way of expressing poetry. Some individuals do not consider slam
poetry as a form of art. Among these individuals is literary critic Harold Bloom, who has publicly
stated that slam poetry is the death of art. Contrary to the literary critic Harold Bloom who has

The last time a global survey for homelessness was attempted by the United Nations in 2005, an
estimated 100 million people were homeless worldwide. As many as 1.6 billion people lacked
adequate housing. [1] In the United States, on a single night in January 2015, 564,708 people
were experiencing homelessness meaning they were sleeping outside or in an emergency shelter
or transitional housing program. [2] In 2013, the Slum population in India went up from 52
million to 65 million and it has been predicted to rise to 104 million. [3] Looking at the statistics,
the main cause for homelessness could be contributed to the cost of affordable housing. Another
example that could be considered could be of people living in disaster prone areas where people
lose their houses overnight. In such scenarios, 3D printing could be a viable solution where houses
could be printed in a couple of days as compared to traditional construction methods where people
need to seek out emergency shelters till their houses are built. Also, 3D printing a house gives
Architects ability to design and build structures which are complex

Environmental Effects Of Noise Pollution
Noise can be defined as unwanted sound1. Sounds which we deem as unwanted or unnecessary
are noise. Our environment is beset by noise, which is pervasive, intrusive and ubiquitous as well
as unhealthy. The effects of noise, a pollutant and its effects on health have been neglected despite
being aware of the ability to precisely measure or calculate the exposure from the peak levels2. The
effects of noise pollutionwere first recognized in the occupational settings. In our environment,
there are different sources of noise, but they generally depend on the activity performed, location
and the time of the day3. In everyday life noise is pervasive, that can cause both auditory and non
auditory effects on the health. Noise is an audible acoustic phenomenon that may or may not
adversely affect the people. The effects of noise can be physiologically as well as psychologically
be appreciated. In occupational settings noise induced hearingloss remains highly prevalent, which
is increasingly caused by social noise exposure for example personal music player. If the
exposure to noise remains chronic and exceeds certain level negative health outcomes are seen.
Health effects which were first recognized in an occupational setting were through the weaving
mills where the level of high noises was associated with hearing loss2. Excess of noise exposure
leads to annoyance, disturbed sleep, increase in daytime sleepiness, decrease in patient outcome
and staff performance in the hospital, increase in physiological conditions like hypertension and
cardiovascular diseases, and impairment of the cognitive functioning of the school children.
Occupational noise is the most studied noise exposure. Researchers have now broadened to social
noise like those heard in bars or personal music players.
Environmental noise consists of all the unwanted noise that arise from our environment rather than
our workplace1. Environmental noise pollution is considered a form of air pollution which causes a
threat to the health and the well being of the people living in the community. Noise pollution is a
phenomenon that affects everybody but is generally associated with the level of activity performed,
the place and the duration. Environmental noise

willing to go above and beyond in order to secure themselves a job since there are more applicants
than there are job openings.
Education and Prerequisites: Financial Manager
As jobs are scarce in the business world candidates must show that they are capable and proficient in
their craft as opposed to other candidates. Although, the minimum educational requirement is a

The Effect Of Oppression On Women

women. My perspective on women in the work force has changed completely. From this I have
gained a new found respect for women who hold high power, and positions of authority because I
know that they must have struggled to get where they are. I also respect them more because I
know that men do not always work well when a women is their supioure, and therefore they can

Swing Girls Movie Review
There is no doubt that Jazz has become one of Japanese cultures, which was once linked to
Japanese American and European cultures, and now, it could also represent Japanese culture itself.
Jazz certainly has a major influence on Japanese music styles. This influence also affects Japanese
society. Jazz is like a pot of wine with continuous fermentation, spreading its flavor to different
generations of Japan. The love of jazzis very enthusiastic, people from kids to elders are all
aware of this genre and many of them participate in school bands, society bands and other groups
that perform jazz music. Here is one track of a Japanese high school band performing How high
to the moon . Second track is a Japanese film trailer Like Someone In Love , the background jazz
music was exceptionally charming, and has an indescribable appeal.
Jazz became one of the main musical styles appearing in commercials, TV shows and all kinds
of stage performances. Because the role of jazz in Japan is significant, in the year of 2004,
Japan film producers presents a film about a group of high school girls learning Jazz. This is the
film Swing Girls . The film itself is simple but calls for deeper thoughts; a group of high school
girls accidently food poisoned the school jazz bands. In order to right their wrongs, these girls
with one boy have to learn jazz from zero knowledge until they are able to present a show for the
school. Disregard the film exaggerating the girls talent or learning

wrote in Hindi or Urdu. The main achievement of the Mughal Empire was the Taj Mahal, which is
a tomb built from 1631 until 1647. In the 1600s, The Mughal Empire fell apart.
If I could live in any empire, it would be the Safavid Empire. There would both Persian and
Muslim traditions. There were magnificent mosques and lots of beautiful art. Handwoven carpet
and textiles were made and sold to people. They also had ceramics and metal goods, especially
those of steel. There was trade as far away as Europe, which gave wealth to the Safavid Empire.
Therefore, I would stay in the Safavid Empire.

Greek Tragedy and Modern Drama
Greek Tragedy Modern Drama
Tragedy as a form works differently than modern drama when compared to the ancient Greeks.
When it comes to modern drama, the main character is usually an ordinary person, someone who
is middle class. Where as with Greek tragedy, the main character is someone important and noble,
such as a king or queen. Modern drama revolves around everyday problems such as social,
economical, or personal conflicts. Greek Tragedies seem to be very linear. It s mostly about the
hero making a bad decision from the beginning of the play, which leads to his or her downfall in
the end. Although, they were of higher ranking, ancient Greek s beliefs made the main character
powerless to avoid their fate, which was controlled by the gods. As far as conventions go, Greek
Tragedies are very unified. The tragedy of the royal protagonist will go through only one time span,
a day or less, one setting, and one story. In a modern tragedy, however, the ordinary protagonist s
story goes through multiple realistic settings and a realistic time line. Also, the story would contain
multiple plots, which may contain flashbacks.
Taking a look at the elements of a Greek tragedy, a play called Oedipusthe King is a good
example. The story starts off with the city of Thebes being under a plague due to the murder of its
former king, Laius. Creon was sent by Oedipus to find a solution from the oracle, which was to

Why Did Roland Take Charlemagne
Oliver thought that they should alert Charlemagne that way they could easily win the conflict with
the Muslims. Oliver thought that planning ahead and winning the battle were smart and honorable
moves. Roland disagreed with this view. Roland thought that it would have been dishonorable to

rearguard and his family would be accused of being cowards. Oliver thought Roland was stupid and

Oliver said it would be one of the toughest battles fought in history. Oliver again emphasized that
the French were heavily outnumbered and that their troops appeared to be fresh and ready to
fight. Oliver told Roland to sound the horn so that Charlemagne and the primary army would
come back and that the battle would be won with ease. Roland said it would be foolish to sound

the Franks were far superior fighters compared to the Muslims and that their 20,000 troops
would be victorious. Oliver continued to ask Roland to sound the horn for aid. Roland said he

the French would win because they were superior fighters and they would not need back up.
Oliver asked again, but Roland said it would be a disgrace to ask for aid in killing weak Muslims.
Roland said he would not dishonor his country. Roland said that even thought the Muslims

himself and God. After departing for battle Oliver said they would die

Julius Caesar s Ethos In Laertes
After discovering his father s death, Laertes is angered with Claudius, the present king. Despite
the rage that filled Laertes heart, Claudius was able to not only quell Laertes anger, but gain
Laertes trust. Claudius manages to persuade Laertes to his side by appealing to Laertes ethos,
logos, and pathos. When Laertes first bursts into the castle, emotions everywhere are high,
however Claudius greets Laertes calmly, allowing him to speak his rage. Insecurity and anger
often go hand in hand, and in his emotionally unstable state Claudius easily changes Laertes heart
by crediting himself to be most sensibly in grief for [Laertes father s death] (Shakespeare 4.5.149).
By creating this morally right version of himself in Laertes mind,

My Musical Journey
Boe Evans
My Musical Journey, well my Journey to Music all had started when I was young. When I was
in fifth grade I was having trouble with school, and doing things I was supposed to do. I was
only 10 years old, life was still a new journey that I was experiencing and was excited to go
through. A friend of mine named Jordan had been visiting in Coronado California, from Texas,
and brought along some motor bikes with him. He was basically a professional at the sport, and
had been doing it for years, while I had never done it before. Him and his Father had invited me
to go out motor biking with them in Julian, California, on one of the days they were here. And of
course I said yes I was so excited and was glad they chose me to go along with them that day.
Our ride to Julian California took about a hour or two to get there. We arrived in the desert along
a highway and parked the car on the side of the road, not knowing what lied ahead of us. We
pulled the motor bikes out of the trailer and got on our gear, so we would be protected. At first I
had a little trouble with handling the motorbike with the clutch and the geers but after a while I
had gotten the hang of it. We had been riding for about 1 2 hours that night. Until something
horrible had happened. I was motor biking about 30 feet away from the road, where it was
supposed to be safe and uninhabited by cars. Along the highway still 30 feet away from it I had
been motor biking not knowing what was going to happen

Individuality In The Blind Side

was a well directed movie with a good overall message. However, now that I have expanded my
education and gained new knowledge to process my surroundings, I now see this movie with a
new set of eyes. Eyes that are no longer foggy from the opinions that society has imbedded in us,
but instead clear from all those predetermined thoughts that most of us are constricted too. This

Another depiction of white privilege in The Blind Side was directed in the scene where Leigh
Ann is seen having lunch with some of her friends at a fancy, expensive restaurant and is
discussing the Michael situation as if he can t fend for himself. Leigh Ann again is shown to
rise up above her lowly friends and stands up for what she believes is right and counteracts her
actions by saying that instead of her helping him, he is helping her. Turning the tables so that
she again is not in the spotlight, but Michael is. In I Beat The Odds, Michael mentions how the
people you choose to hang out with are going to have a huge impact on the choices you make
and the person you end up becoming which shows how his personal experience helped formulate
this conclusion (Oher, 2011, p.228). In retrospect, who s to say that Leigh Ann isn t also one of
these people whose character is altered to depict a more loving character rather than showing her
true thoughts and agreeing with her friends? We all know that Michael s character was altered to
make the movie flow well, so what about Leigh Ann?
Institutionalized racism was also part of multiple scenes in The Blind Side that sheltered Michael
from expressing his unique individuality. In I Beat The Odds it was mentioned how Michael like
to always be one time, like to stay clean shaved, and clean clothed, and always was a very
observing type of person, but in the

According to Bell (2012), the most probable outcomes of in group favoritism in jobs is the
hiring, promoting, and rewarding of members of the particular group by peers belonging to the
same group. The exclusion of the members of the out groups, the minority out group members
are sidelined while the members of the dominant group will be favored. In most cases, the
members of non dominant out groups are minorities and women, social categorization often

The Problem Of E Waste
E Waste may be described as a broad and growing range of electronics ranging from large
household devices such as refrigerators, air conditioners, cell phones, personal stereos and
consumer electronics to computers, which have been discarded by their users. (Puckett and Smith,
2002). While this description is accurate, it is slightly ambiguous about the length of time before a
device can actually be considered waste. Often, owners discard their electronics long before they
have reached the end of their actual life cycle in order to upgrade to a newer model. In most
cases the outgoing device finds its way into the used market. This may prolong the life of the
product by a few years, however all electronic items eventually reach a point... Show more content

With devices becoming increasingly affordable, the replacement time for common consumer
electronics has also become shorter. Planned obsolescence is a significant contributor to the
increase in purchase of consumer electronics. Many companies these days limit software updates
and features to only a handful of new phones or tablets they offer, thus perpetuating the need to
go out and purchase the new model. The average use time before a consumer replaces their
mobile phone is only 18 months even though it s actual life cycle may be much longer than that.
PCs and laptops are usually considered outdated within 3 4 years of purchase and are then
replaced by their owners for newer and faster models. Studies have estimated e waste generation
worldwide at 20 to 50 million tonnes per year with a steady increase of 8% to 10% annually. One
of the methods to estimate the potential volume of e waste in the present and the future is by
analyzing sales figures of commercial electronics. By taking into account how much we are
buying, we may be able to approximate how much will be added to this waste stream a few years
down the line when newly purchased devices become obsolete and are discarded. On the release of
the latest iPad, electronic buy back firms stated that consumers were trading in their older tablets at
an unprecedented rate for the new iteration even though their older tablets were completely
functional and working.

Nationwide, the retail sector enjoyed robust growth during the first half of the decade, due in
great part to the continued expansion of big boxes. The excitement, however, is dying down, as
several category killer retailers experience slowing sales. The once zealous players are becoming
more cautious, and once again the rules of the game are changing for developers and commercial

Many of the nation s retailers are discovering the substantial dollar volumes that are largely
untapped in the major urban markets. Obsolescent industrial buildings in A locations are making
way for new supermarkets, Wal Marts, and Home Depots across the country. In fact, Wal Mart is
considering obsolescence in its new prototype by designing stores that can be converted into
multifamily housing in the future. Communities with enterprise zones and other economic
incentives are getting a second chance as retailers rediscover downtown in more affluent markets. A
shining example is the Circle Centre redevelopment in Indianapolis.
B locations, or those neighborhood centers once anchored by supermarkets, are getting a breath of
new life from Rite Aid, Walgreens, and CVS as consumers yearn for service and convenience.
In addition, the surviving supermarkets and large discount department stores are anchoring regional
malls. K mart now focuses on its superstore concept in metropolitan locations, with Wal Mart
continuing to identify gaps in suburban markets. There are fewer active big box players; therefore,
opportunities for regional mall locations, as they become repositioned, will become more prevalent.

My current goals of becoming a successful artist has been the issue of conflict in terms of finding

This goal started when my fourth grade teacher entered one of my watercolor painting into an art

China s Foot Binding During The Tang Dynasty
What Is Foot Binding?
Foot binding is a process used by all women during the Tang Dynasty. Women did this to show
their high status and rank. This was a sign of beauty. Like most beauty, it came with a lot of pain.
Why Did It Start?
During the Tang Dynasty, Emperor Li Yu was one of the emperors. His favorite dancer wore
strips of cloth wrapped around her feet. She did this to make her dancing look more beautiful and
graceful. It was like ballerina feet almost, perfectly curved and pointed. Because Emperor Li Yu
adored her feet so much, he had other court maidens wrap their feet. This practice spread to women
all around China no matter their rank.
What Made It So Dangerous?
The original idea seems harmless, but as the tradition spread, the process became more gruesome.
At the start, all they would do is wrap their feet, but not tighten them daily. Women wanted to
make their feet tinier and pointier. They wanted their feet to be more curved and doll like. As a
result, they decided to create a process in order to get their feet down to the splendid length of 3
inches.
What Was That Process?... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First, they soaked their feet in water. After they removed dead skin and trimmed the toenails as
short as possible, they would sprinkle alum between the toes to stop any perspiration. Next, they
would soak the bandages they were going to use to bind in water. This made the bandages shrink
as they dried. They broke the four small toes and folded them under the foot of the girl. After that
they kept the big toe and ball of the foot normal but tried to move the heel towards the front of
the foot. During the process of tying the bandages onto the foot, the bones in the foot would
break. To keep the girl from ripping off the bandages, they would sew the bandages as much as
needed. Finally, small shoes were placed on her feet and she was forced to walk

Why did the U.S. use the atomic bomb?
The years leading up to World War II and the dropping of the atomic bombs were hectic and
disordered, from the rise of Hitler in 1933, U.S. isolationism in 1934, to the death of U.S.
President Roosevelt. The war showed no signs of ending and the security and freedom of nations
around the world were in danger. Order was nowhere to be found, and the decision to even consider
using the atomic bomb was unpreventable. The U.S. used the atomic bomb because it was the
only way Japan would surrender, the world wanted to end the war as soon as possible with as little
casualties as possible, and because of resentful feelings toward Japan.

It is debated however whether Japan would have surrendered without the catastrophic aid of the
bombs. There were numerous attacks that would have eventually prompted Japan to give in. Any
sane government would have surrendered after Iwo Jima, a deadly battle where 27,000 Japanese
fought against 70,000 U.S marines...an inevitable loss for Japan.
Nonetheless, the power of the bomb had convinced the world of its horror it even amazed its
inventors. The surrender of Japan was not the only thing that compelled the use of the bombs.
President Truman knew that they would have eventually given in, but he had them dropped
anyway as a way of scaring the Communist Soviet Union into peaceful post war behavior
(Collier, 81). The bomb impressed them and stopped them from asking for joint occupation of
Japan. This was a major feat because that is the major reason why Russia joined the war hastily in
1945 in the first place. They sensed a victory for the U.S and perhaps the spoils of war for
themselves.
The Allies agreed to conditional surrender in order to save the lives of thousands of Japanese and
Americans. More people would have died if Japan were invaded than dropping the bomb at
Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Government and military officials knew that attacking on the Japanese
mainland would be gruesome because of relentless willpower to win. Kamikaze planes, planes

The Battle Of Gettysburg During The Civil War
There are many instances in which Family members fought on opposing sides of the war, for
example: the Culp Family from Pennsylvania, Crittenden Family from Kentucky. Even President
Lincoln s wife had members of her family that fought on opposing sides. This is the perfect
example of people fighting for their own cause not just because there was a line drawn on a map.
Before the Battle of Gettysburgeven started many soldiers had fought side by side in multiple
battles as US Soldiers, where many friendships were born. Once the Confederacy was
established in 1861 many soldiers began to choose sides based on where they were from.
Southerners returned back to their homes to fight for the Confederacy while others regardless
where they were from stayed to fight for the Union even if it was against their family s beliefs or
even their own for that fact because they were loyal the Union.
There were five generations of the Culp Family that lived in the small town of Gettysburg during
the time of the battle. This location was known to many as Culp s Hill, the prominent landmark in
which played a major role during the fight. Henry Culp was the current owner of the farm and his

African cities include; urban sprawl, unsuitable land use, inadequate transportation systems, air and
water pollution, depletion of natural resources,

The issue of pesticides infecting the burrowing owls is still under investigation. The owls also may be coming in contact with pesticides indirectly through other animals they are using as a food ... When it comes to modern drama, the main character is usually an ordinary person, someone who is middle class. Where as with Greek tragedy, the main character is someone important and noble, such as a king or queen. Modern drama revolves around everyday problems such as social, economical, or personal conflicts. Greek Tragedies seem to be very linear. It s mostly about the hero making a bad decision from the beginning of the play, which leads to his or her downfall in the end. Although, they were of higher ranking, ancient Greek s beliefs made the main character powerless to avoid their fate, which was controlled by the gods. As far as conventions go, Greek Tragedies are very unified. The tragedy of the royal protagonist will go through only one time span, a day or less, one setting, and one story. In a modern tragedy, however, the ordinary protagonist s story goes through multiple realistic settings and a realistic time line. Also, the story would contain multiple plots, which may contain flashbacks. Taking a look at the elements of a Greek tragedy, a play called Oedipusthe King is a good example. When I was in fifth grade I was having trouble with school, and doing things I was supposed to do. I was only 10 years old, life was still a new journey that I was experiencing and was excited to go through. A friend of mine named Jordan had been visiting in Coronado California, from Texas, and brought along some motor bikes with him. He was basically a professional at the sport, and had been doing it for years, while I had never done it before. Him and his Father had invited me to go out motor biking with them in Julian, California, on one of the days they were here. And of course I said yes I was so excited and was glad they chose me to go along with them that day. Our ride to Julian California took about a hour or two to get there. We arrived in the desert along a highway and parked the car on the side of the road, not knowing what lied ahead of us. We pulled the motor bikes out of the trailer and got on our gear, so we would be protected. At first I had a little trouble with handling the motorbike with the clutch and the geers but after a while I had gotten the hang of it. We had been riding for about 1 2 hours that night. Until something horrible had happened. I was motor biking about 30 feet away from the road, where it was supposed to be safe and uninhabited by cars. In I Beat The Odds, Michael mentions how the people you choose to hang out with are going to have a huge impact on the choices you make and the person you end up becoming which shows how his personal experience helped formulate this conclusion (Oher, 2011, p.228). In retrospect, who s to say that Leigh Ann isn t also one of these people whose character is altered to depict a more loving character rather than showing her true thoughts and agreeing with her friends? We all know that Michael s character was altered to make the movie flow well, so what about Leigh Ann? Institutionalized racism was also part of multiple scenes in The Blind Side that sheltered Michael from expressing his unique individuality. • 29. The Problem Of E Waste E Waste may be described as a broad and growing range of electronics ranging from large household devices such as refrigerators, air conditioners, cell phones, personal stereos and consumer electronics to computers, which have been discarded by their users. (Puckett and Smith, 2002). While this description is accurate, it is slightly ambiguous about the length of time before a device can actually be considered waste. Often, owners discard their electronics long before they have reached the end of their actual life cycle in order to upgrade to a newer model. In most cases the outgoing device finds its way into the used market. This may prolong the life of the product by a few years, however all electronic items eventually reach a point... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With devices becoming increasingly affordable, the replacement time for common consumer electronics has also become shorter. Planned obsolescence is a significant contributor to the increase in purchase of consumer electronics. Many companies these days limit software updates and features to only a handful of new phones or tablets they offer, thus perpetuating the need to go out and purchase the new model. The average use time before a consumer replaces their mobile phone is only 18 months even though it s actual life cycle may be much longer than that. PCs and laptops are usually considered outdated within 3 4 years of purchase and are then replaced by their owners for newer and faster models. Studies have estimated e waste generation worldwide at 20 to 50 million tonnes per year with a steady increase of 8% to 10% annually. One of the methods to estimate the potential volume of e waste in the present and the future is by analyzing sales figures of commercial electronics. By taking into account how much we are buying, we may be able to approximate how much will be added to this waste stream a few years down the line when newly purchased devices become obsolete and are discarded. On the release of the latest iPad, electronic buy back firms stated that consumers were trading in their older tablets at an unprecedented rate for the new iteration even though their older tablets were completely functional and working. ... This was a sign of beauty. Like most beauty, it came with a lot of pain. Why Did It Start? During the Tang Dynasty, Emperor Li Yu was one of the emperors. His favorite dancer wore strips of cloth wrapped around her feet. She did this to make her dancing look more beautiful and graceful. It was like ballerina feet almost, perfectly curved and pointed. Because Emperor Li Yu adored her feet so much, he had other court maidens wrap their feet. This practice spread to women all around China no matter their rank. What Made It So Dangerous? The original idea seems harmless, but as the tradition spread, the process became more gruesome. At the start, all they would do is wrap their feet, but not tighten them daily. Women wanted to make their feet tinier and pointier. They wanted their feet to be more curved and doll like. As a result, they decided to create a process in order to get their feet down to the splendid length of 3 inches. What Was That Process?... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After that they kept the big toe and ball of the foot normal but tried to move the heel towards the front of the foot. President Truman knew that they would have eventually given in, but he had them dropped anyway as a way of scaring the Communist Soviet Union into peaceful post war behavior (Collier, 81). The bomb impressed them and stopped them from asking for joint occupation of Japan. This was a major feat because that is the major reason why Russia joined the war hastily in 1945 in the first place. They sensed a victory for the U.S and perhaps the spoils of war for themselves. Introduction Quantitative urban studies are becoming increasingly important for planners knowing that in the year 2015 more than half the global population will be residing in cities [1]. Suitable urban planning ought to be a top priority for future development but unfortunately sound planning has not taken place especially in many African cities as heavy rural urban migration continues to cause cities to expand at uncontrollable rates [2]. As a consequence, the urban population in Africa is increasing at a much faster rate than in the rest of the world, contributing to the augmentation of the existing problems such as unsuitable land use [3]. The concentration of population in cities comprises as much as 60% of the total population in most countries. In these immense urban settlements the environmental and social consequences are sometimes disastrous [4]. Large cities in Africa such as Nakuru have experienced a fast growth rate of 13.3% between 1990 and 2006 [5]. The magnification has been attributed to a number of factors, mainly the aperture of the new Naivasha Nakuru road, which links the megacity of Nairobi. Post election violence is verbally expressed to be one of the contributing factors, since many displaced people from neighboring towns migrated to Nakuru as a safe shelter.
