Easter foods have origins in both Christian and pagan traditions. Common Easter foods include fish eaten on Good Friday out of respect for Jesus' sacrifice, decorated eggs symbolizing new life, and the Easter bunny symbolizing fertility in spring. Hot cross buns, traditionally eaten on Good Friday, have uncertain origins but are now a favorite Easter treat with supposed magical properties. Lamb and dove are also symbols of rebirth and peace eaten during Italian Easter feasts.
