First, develop an earthquake safety kit including water, non-perishable food, medical supplies, tools, and entertainment items. Store the kit in an easily accessible place like near the teacher's desk at school or behind the TV at home. Second, know what to do during an earthquake - get under sturdy furniture, protect your head and neck, and avoid hazards. If outside, move to an open area away from buildings and power lines. Third, after an earthquake, check on classmates and teachers at school or family members at home. Make sure any unstable items are secured and listen to the radio for emergency information and instructions.

2. First Things First.. Your parents and your Teacher should develop an Earthquake Safety Kit.

3. What should it Include? Plenty of bottled water, Nonperishable food (energy bars, canned meats, canned vegetables).Nonelectric can opener, Fire extinguisher, Basic first-aid kit , Battery-operated radio with extra batteries., Flashlight with extra batteries and chemical light sticks, Waterproof matches and 100-hour candle., Sturdy shoes., Gloves (to protect yourself from broken glass).Dust masks., Map of the area (to locate shelters),Garbage bags., Toilet paper, Antibacterial, "no-water-needed" liquid soap, Identification, Copies of important family documents, Cell phone, List of important phone numbers: electric, gas, and water companies, fire department, Red Cross, family members, friends and neighbors, Money, Copies of insurance policies, financial records, and a household inventory video or list, Medical consent form for minors. Also, put in some playing cards, maybe a cd player, a game boy, anything that would pass time and calm down your nerves after the earthquake. For school some extra things you can put in may be pencils for doing math problems while waiting out the horror after the earthquake.

4. Cont. A good place to put your safety kit should be near the teachers desk where it can be easily taken. In your house, a smart idea may be to put in in the family room maybe behind the TV, or in one of the cabinets in your kitchen.

5. How to Be Prepared… Have a safety kit. Know what to do when the shaking starts Know where to meet your classmates or Parents after the earthquake.

6. How to Act During an Earthquake.

7. In School Get under a sturdy table. Be aware of things that can fall and hurt you. Make sure most of your body is covered. If you are in a bathroom go into one of the stalls and protect your neck. If your in a hallway, run into the nearest bathroom or classroom ASAP.

8. At Home If your family has a safe room get to the safe room ASAP. If you don’t, and the shaking has already become violent find something to get under, that is sturdy, like a bed, closet. Always protect your neck. Be aware of heavy items falling, like China Cabinets and ceiling fans.

9. Driving or Outside… If you're outdoors, find a clear spot ,away from buildings, trees, streetlights, and power lines, and drop to the ground until the shaking stops. If you're driving, stop immediately and stay in the car. If you see hazards, drive slowly to a clear area, like a parking lot without street lights, then remain in the car until the quake stops.

10. After and Earthquake.

11. In School.. Find your teacher and classmates. Make sure any unstable items are secure, or avoided. If Phones are available, call your Administrator, and let them know your classroom is okay. Make sure you and your classmates are okay, and accounted for.

12. At Home.. If you are in your safe room, you have nothing to be worried about, like your health. Make sure to cover your mouth and nose, because large amounts of dust can overcome you. If not in a safe room find your parents and make sure everyone is okay. Turn on radio to know if there is a shelter available, or updates concerning the Earthquake.
