Police And Criminal Evidence Act
create an understanding and response to this statement, I will first explain the legislation that
police have to abide by when it comes to the treatment and rights of a suspect before they have
turned into the defendant . This will have a main focus on Code A and Code C within the Police
and Criminal Evidence Act (PACE) 1984 and parts of the Criminal Justiceand Public Order Act
(CJPOA) 1994. I will then address the two models of criminal process created by H. Packer; these
models both have different values and create a debate on whether the rights of the defendant should
be protected rather than the victim. The Human RightsAct 1998 will then be used to show that it
can be used to help terrorists stay in the United Kingdom. To conclude I will give my opinion on
the statement and explain how the research I have found backs it up.
In the 1970s there was a debate in the treatment and evidence collected about the arrest of suspects
in conjunction with the bombings of Birmingham and Guildford. This then caused the Home
Secretary to appoint a Royal Commission on Criminal Procedure (RCCP), which later helped
introduce the Police and Criminal Evidence Act (PACE) 1984 (Newburn, 2003, p.93). PACE sets
out the powers that police have to stop and search, arrest and how they should treat suspects when
they are detained and questioned. It aims to protect the rights of individuals (PACE, 1984).
Under code A of PACE, the police need reasonable grounds for suspicion to stop and search a

The Caste System And Hinduism
The caste system and Hinduism have been heavily intertwined since the beginning of Hinduism in
1500 BCE with the Vedic period (Molloy, 80). So much so, that even after hundreds of years the
very same structure persisted into the Upanishadic period of Hinduism. The system was based on
four castes (varna): The priest (brahmin), the warrior (kshatriya, rajanya), the merchant (vaishya),
and the peasant (shudra). The untouchables (dalits) were ostracized from the caste system, as they
are considered too impure to partake in the social hierarchy of the higher castes. Two prominent
figures tried to help the Dalits at different points in history: Mahatma Gandhi and B.R. Ambedkar.
They both had different solutions to help the Dalits escape the... Show more content on

Even further dividing the castes is the concept of varnasramadharma (Jones, 2329). With this
system, the four varnas have ashrama tied to them, specific duties to complete across the four
defined stages of life (Molloy, 89). This model was developed specifically looking at the ancient
ideal life of the highest social caste, the brahmin. This is a prime example of how structured
Hindu society is around the caste system, and how dependant they are on the ancient teachings
of the religion. The stages of life are linear, and begin at the age of 8 with the Student stage.
During this stage of life, the person focuses on building a spiritual basis for their life through
studying religious texts. At age 20 they enter the householder stage. They typically get married
through an arranged marriage from the parents, and fulfill their societal duty of having children.
Once their children have grown up and have kids of their own, the person may enter the retiree
stage. Here is where they return somewhat to the religious focus of their life much like when they
were in the student stage. Finally is the optional stage of renunciate. During this stage the person
becomes akin to a monk, they wear orange robes, participate once again in celibacy, and travel to
gain further spiritual insight to hasten their achievement of moksha (Molloy, 89 90 and Jones, 2329
2330). However, there is one group that is exempt from the ashrama and varna

A Report On The Swiss Confederation
In 1291, the Swiss Confederation was founded. In 1499, the Swiss Confederation obtained
independence from the Holy Roman Empire. Finally, in 1848, a constitution was created that
replaced the confederation with a centralized federal government. Today, the Swiss Confederation
is most commonly known as Switzerland, one of the world s richest and most innovative countries
(The World Factbook: SWITZERLAND). In efforts to determine whether our firm should pursue
business engagements in Switzerland, I, Paula Cuerquis, Senior Macroeconomist at our
multinational corporation, created a report that outlines the overall macroeconomic conditions of
the country of interest. In this report, I will be providing an assessment of Switzerland s current...

An example of this problematic dependence occurred in 2008 during the global financial crisis that
resulted in the economic downturn in 2009. During this time, the demand for Swiss goods
plummeted putting Switzerland into a recession. While the Swiss National Bank, SNC,
implemented a zero interest rate policy that rejuvenated the economy, the domino effect that
occurred due to this economic downturn resulted in the strength of the Swiss franc but also
weakened the competition for trade and weakened the economy s growth outlook (The World
Factbook: Switzerland). As you can see in the image to the right, as of 2015, 43.4% of Swiss
exports are generated by the European Union (Switzerland Country Profile). An important thing
to note here is that the Swiss economy is open to foreign investment. According to Heritage.org,
Switzerland ranks a score, out of 95.0, of 90.0 in regards to Trade Freedom, 85.0 in Investment
Freedom, and an increasing 90.0 score in regards to Financial Freedom. Sitzerland s capitalizes
on their openness to trade with industrial products but with a protected agricultural sector
(Switzerland). Forbes ranked Switzerland #16 as one of the best countries for business. Moving
forward, like I touched upon earlier, with a population of 8.1 million people, it s astonishing how
only 4.6% of Switzerland s labor force is unemployed. Switzerland averages wages of $58,389 (US

The Ethical Philosophy Of The United States
Organizations have disparate marketing strategies when selecting choices that affect stakeholders.
Each approach touches the consumer and the Earth; it defines if the business is socially
accountable for humanity. When the ethical philosophy a company follows is for universal
individual rights regardless of the outcome, it is moral idealism. In contrast, when only considering
the greater good for the greatest number and appraising cost and the benefit of the choice it is
utilitarianism. If the benefits exceed the costs, then the behavior is ethical, if not, then the behavior
is considered unethical. This philosophy underlies the economic tenets of capitalism and is
embraced by many business executives (Kerin, Hartley, Rudelius, 2015,... Show more content on

A company incorporating structures to guide executives that considers all the variables began with
Robert Wood Johnson of Johnson Johnson. In 1934, he wrote a credo which became a structure for
other organizations to consider. The statement described that their responsibility was to all users of
their products, and that the stockholders should realize a fair return without doing harm to a
consumer (Johnson Johnson, 1943). These principles established ethical guidelines for Johnson
Johnson and a model for other industries. В¬The United States Civil Rights Act of 1964, the U.S.
Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970 and the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act of 1977 helped
companies to become socially responsible (De George, 2015). Ethics and social responsibilities are
evident with British Petroleum s handling of the Deepwater Horizon spill in 2010, and Toyota
Motor Corporation s attempt to create an eco friendly vehicle. Utilitarianism was exhibited by BP
and moral idealism was Toyota s motive to produce environmentally green vehicles. British
Petroleum redesigned their name to make it more environmentally friendly, it was changed to
Beyond Petroleum, which professed their focus on renewable energy not just hydrocarbons, and
promoted a pro social marketing plan (Balmer et al., 2011). In 2008, they defined their sustainable

narrator and his two friends, Digby and Jeff. The teenagers gallivant around town for a for a few
nights. One evening, the narrator and his companions get into a fight, discover a corpse, and
attempt to sexually assault a woman. In this story, the author attempts to convey the following:
boys seek to become men, they want to prove they are men, and many boys will become mature
men. Adolescent boys envision themselves becoming men and often have an image they aspire to.
In the story, the boys perceive being a man as adhering to sexist masculine stereotypes: violent,

The Importance Of The Pyramid Of Giza
The pyramid of Giza construction was created during the old kingdom. This majestic structure
signified the role that gods, and kings played in Egypt. The Egyptians had a meaning for all items
example jewelry, art, and obituary rituals. Building this pyramid was no exception to have meaning
in its structure. In building the pyramidof Giza the sides are smooth and angled to embody the
emissions from the sun this was believed to aid the king in his voyage to the afterlife. This
pyramid was built as a tomb to hold the remains of the king once he died. Similarly, to numerous
royals tombs this pyramid has extravagant paintings and had offerings to the gods to help ease
the transition from life to death. The Solar temple is located on the shores of Abusir lake. The
solar temple was discovered during the time of 1898 to 1901 by Heinrich Schaeffer and Ludwig
Borchardt. The Solar temple of Niuserre if we currently view this temple isn t as striking as the
pyramid of Giza. Nonetheless, the significance of this structure lies within. This temple is
rectangular in design it was created to be aligned with the focal point of the piece which was the
compass in the center of the courtyard. In the center of the courtyard their lays an alter this alter
has an upper block that is round this could be the symbol for the sun god Ra. The lower blocks it
is my view that these would be used for animal sacrifices for the god. We can view this type of

Holden Caulfield s The Catcher s The Rye
Are 50 s teens able to survive the hurtful but unavoidable transition of becoming a grown up as they
struggle with the changes that come along with it?
JD. Salinger s 1951 book, The Catcher in the Rye, shows us how society treated their confused and
changing teenagers during their transition into adulthood. The book s main character Holden
Caulfield is being pressured into growing up even though he doesn t feel ready, to lead an adult
life. He is still struggling socially and mourning for his deceased brother whose death turned
Holden upside down and into a negative, hopeless person from a young age, which causes him to
be distracted, indifferent and to flunk every school he goes to.
Therefore, Holden Caulfield seems to be dealing with a world that is forcing him to change his
ways and grow up because of his age while he struggles with his past, present and future, in this JD
Salinger classic.
Thesis Statement Brainstorm:
1 Salinger s main character Holden, is seen to be struggling with his past, present and future in The
Catcher in the Rye.
2 Holden is seen to be having unspecified negative thoughts about growing up throughout JD
Salinger s famous The Catcher in the Rye.
3 JD Salinger s The Catcher in the Rye s main character Holden Caulfield seems to be dealing
with a world that forces him to change his ways because of his age and what it s expected from
him while he is struggling with his past, present and future.

Compare the ways in which the poet presents people in...
Compare the ways in which the poet presents people in night of the scorpion and one other poem?
Night of the scorpion is a poem about a woman getting stung by a scorpion and the events that
follow it. The poem two scavengers... is about the comparison between two garbage men and a
couple going to work. Although the two poems sound totally different, they both convey the
message about equality in society.
In night of the scorpion the people are peasants. They are religious people. The crowd of peasants
have a different religious belief than us. They believe that if they chant about god then this will help
cure the mother. They believe that chants will help cure the mother, this is shown by when the

He even poured a little paraffin upon the bitten toe and put a match on it. Although the father
does not believe in the religious side of the society he tried all of them at the thought of loosing
his wife. After all of the events that happened she only was grateful that it took her and not one
of her children. The author does not clearly state his opinion of this, but he is clearly affected by
it or he would have not mentioned it. The poem two scavengers... only has descriptions of the two
sets of people for comparative purposes. These being the garbage men and the cool couple. The
poet might prefer the garbage men, this is due to the words he uses to describe the garbage men.
The garbage men up since four a.m. grungy from their route on the way home. This shows that the
author feels sympathy for the two men, having to do the hard tasks that they do. The final verse
suggests that the two sets of people should perhaps not be treated so differently. The cool couple
are treated as special people and have it easy where as the Garbage men have hard tasks to do but
are treated much worse than the couple. This conveys the point that there should be equality in
society.
The language used in night of the scorpion has a very religious aspect to it. This shows the
peasants beliefs in god. The break in the structure before the last 3 lines shows the impression of
the child watching the mother, this could be the poet or maybe just an idea,

Sustainable development, a new way of urbanization
Introduction
Urbanization, which is becoming a buzzword during the last few decades, is enlarging at a
booming speed. It is predicted that 93 percents urban growth will occur to the year 2020, in the
developing world (Elliot J.A, 1999). Generally speaking, more than half of the people around the
world have been moved to cities, which led to a series of matters connected with people s life that
changed in a dramatical way. In this period, sustainable development, another buzzword during the
past few years, came into people s view and gradually became the mainstream of society
development. Its definition is to make the development continue in a long term, which means

Meanwhile, it also should popularize the green living ideas in public. Every year, a large amount
of paper and disposable chopsticks are produced. Since 2006, the annual consumption of
chopsticks in Taiwan was around 4.8 billion pairs which equals to about 3 million of cut down
bamboo plants (Shih, Y. F., Huang, C. C., Chen, P. W,2010). Thus, by limiting the use of
disposable chopsticks and advocating using both side of papers in government and companies, it
can effectively reduce the use per day and as a result, the demand of timber will go down, which
can slow down desertification.
Significantly, desertification also cause soil erosion, which means soil surface is worn by wind and
water. Desertification makes soil easy to erode by water or wind, as soil is exposed and soil
structure is instable without forest. LaI R(2003) says that Land area globally affected by
erosion is 1094 million ha (Mha) by water erosion, of which 751 Mha is severely affected, and 549
Mha by wind erosion, of which 296 Mha is severely affected. To control soil erosion, an obvious
way is virescence, enlarging forest cover, which can protect the soil far from exposing to strong
wind. Also, the roots of plants under ground play a role as a framework, as they are obstructions to
soil movement,

The Death And Life Of Great American Cities
Ten million dollars is a lot of money. When this money has been generated over years of increased
taxes, and is to be put back into a community, it s important to know that this money is being used
wisely. Ten million dollars is the amount of money that the Budlong Woods community is using in
their Tax Increment Financing Redevelopment Area Project. This paper will investigate the current
state of the Budlong Woods community, as well as the specific focus areas of the redevelopment
project and determine whether Budlong Woods is on track to be Chicagos next successful
neighborhood.
Through Jane Jacobs book, The Death and Life of Great American Cities, she details precise
features that make a city successful. Among these, safe sidewalks, lively parks, and diversity of
uses and users are the most important, and will be the focus of study. This paper will compare and
contrast the changes taking place in the Budlong Woods community with those that are successful
or unsuccessful in other city neighborhoods. Through these comparisons it will be determined
whether the money invested in Budlong Woods will drive the community into prosperity, or like
many other city rehabilitation projects, simply be a waste of money that strips the area of its
diversity and unique characteristics.

What Is The Potential Competition In The Condom Industry
Competitor analysis
The online shopping industry faces a high level of competition. Industry players compete in price,
product range, market, scale operation and reputation. The industry is also subject to external
competition from online retailers and traditional bricks and mortar retailers. The main analysis
points of the market competition analysis report of the condom industry include:
1)Competition within the condom industry. There may be several reasons for the intensification of
intra industry competition:
1.First, the industry is growing slowly, and the competition for market share is fierce.
2.Second, the products or services provided by competitors are roughly the same, or there are few
obvious differences.
3.The Third is that some enterprises expand production scale for the benefit of scale economy, the
market equilibrium is broken, the products are overabundant, and enterprises start to resort to the
price reduction.
2)The bargaining power of customers in the condom industry An industry customer may be a
consumer or user of an industry product or a commodity buyer. The industry customer can prompt
the seller to lower the price, improve the product quality or provide better service.
3) The bargaining power of the supplier of the condom industry
Whether the supplier can effectively push the buyer to accept higher price, earlier payment time or
more reliable payment method.

Analysis Of Richard Powers Work Gain Is A Tour De Force...
Richard Powers work Gain is a tour de force of whatever it is. I say this, rather than describing it
as merely a novel, although that is precisely what it is, because Powers has herein created
something more than your typical story. In this work, two seemingly unrelated paths are set on
ambagious paths which will ultimately culminate in their intertwining. On one path we are
presented with the apotheosis of a specific corporations development, and on the other is the
idiosyncratic life of an individual living in a place where this corporation has its hand on
virtually everything. Herein Powers has presented what is probably the most riveting
illustration of a fictional corporation s rise. In fact, it is so engrossed in detail that parts of it
rival real corporate histories, such as The Great A P and Nature s Metropolis. The central
question here is derived from more than everyday consumers being buffaloed by Machiavellian
corporations. Rather, Powers ascertains the question of how have we come to be where we are?
In doing so, Powers destroys the illusion that geography is solely composed of maps. His
illustration of how a corporation can grow, and in seeming reaction to that growth an individual
woman can wither, permeates the very texture of our lives. You see, it is this mode of
production, for which we all possess profound disdain, that is the source of our everyday living
and experiences. Long before you or I were born, business had already replaced nature as the

America s Current Health Care System
According to Joe Conason, America s current health care system wastes considerably more than a
trillion dollars every year. We know that because countries such as France, Germany, Japan and
Finland, with comparable standards of living to ours, spend roughly half what the United States
spends annually on health care per citizen, while covering everyone and achieving better results.
(Conason, 2009) The United States healthcare financial systems are severely flawed affecting the
overall cost control, services, and care made accessible to its clients. The rising costs in healthcare
are reaching new highs, and with rising costs, there doesn t seem to be much change in the quality
of the care being given. Clients coming in and out of these... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

If you combine the fifty five million who have been uninsured in a given year with the
additional thirty million Americans who are under insured, you get to a total of eighty five
million Americans with inadequate protection against the cost of illness (Blumenthal, 2014)
Millions of Americans cannot afford healthcare services, and therefore have no financial defense
in battling illnesses. Even with the affordable care act in place, there is a constant struggle for
many who cannot afford the premiums that come with these insurance policies. One of the
reasons why we have uninsurance in the United States is that it has become increasingly
unaffordable to purchase insurance because the cost of care and the premiums for care have
gone up at multiples of the rates of increase of wages and of the cost of living in the United
States (Blumenthal, 2014) One way to combat these costs is to keep in mind the geographical
location of these individuals. By taking this information into consideration, healthcare facilities
can better focus on the types of services and care they offer their clients. It s important to keep in
mind the type of customers that they are primarily dealing with, for example, are these facilities
located in an area primarily made up of an elder population? or an area with many young
individuals? These factors are imperative to the

Homeless Youth, was a conducted study of LGBT homeless youth experiences in during high

minorities stress comes from harassment in their community, while at school has little effect (Ibid).
While school life has become less hard on the mental health of LGBT youth, the community (house

Another social factor that impending on young sexual minorities are the threats of poverty. These
threats cause LGBT youth to experience vulnerability and detriment to their identities. Corliss et al.

Too Much Power In George Orwell s 1984
There are some aspects that I think are most important to the book that connects to our everyday
lives. Power is the controlling of someone s actions by the government. Freedom is being able to
do what you want, how you want to do it. Privacy is having the ability to not have someone look
through your stuff without someone asking. These aspects connected more with the world because
people are going through difficulties with these things. Orwell s 1984 is relevant in the year 2016
because The United States government and the Oceania government are similar in their use of
freedom, restricted power, and privacy for the citizens. The Oceanian government and the United
States government use power to have control over what people say, do and think.... Show more

The only recognized purpose of the marriage was to beget children for the service of the Party
(Orwell 65). This explains that the only way for them to get married to one another is of they go
to the government and the government has to approve of it. This shows that the government has
power of their relationships. If the government don t like the relationship, then those people can
t be together. They had to have a purpose for getting married and the only real purpose was the
children they would make. The gay marriage paradox: Begging the government for a license to
marry isn t freedom; it s enslavement to Big Brother (Adams). On June 26, 2015, the United
States of America legalized gay marriage. You shouldn t have to knock on the door for you to get
freedom. Based on John Locke s idea, people should be inherited with natural rights and by
restricting gay marriage limits those rights. This shows that American and English societies are
based on the same thing. The government treats everybody the same when it comes to certain
things. When the government did this, they had the power to say who can marry who and what can

Paradise Lost Character Analysis
In the story of Paradise Lost by John Milton, many of the fallen angels exhibit certain qualities
that could be interpreted as virtues. Some of these qualities include courage, justice, and
perseverance. However, many say these characters are meant to be portrayed as completely evil,
which leaves a reader wondering as to why they display a certain level of morality. It is obvious
that the characters believe that they have been wronged and are seeking justice for themselves
against what they view as a tyrant of the heavens. However, when reading the text, I noticed that
John Miltongave the fallen angels many humanlike qualities, making it impossible to have any
wholly evil characters. Throughout the entire story, Milton illustrates the fallen angels as having
both physical and mental resemblance to humans. He even goes as far as to discuss Satan s
physiognomy in the first book, saying, ...but his face deep scars of thunder had entrenched, and
care sat on his faded cheek, but under brows of dauntless courage, and considerate pride waiting
revenge... (1. 600 604). This goes to show that Milton at the very least has a picture of the fallen
angels in his mind s eye as being human in appearance. As well as this, Satan also brings up an
interesting argument regarding the mind, asserting that the mind if its own place, and in itself can
make a Heavenof Hell, a Hell of Heaven (1. 254 255). In this quote, he is essentially saying that
attitude has everything to do with one s

The Australian Work Health And Safety Strategy
The Australian Work Health and Safety Strategy 2012 2022 identifies several priority industries.
Priority industries are identified as having a high number of injury and / or fatalities or hazardous
in nature (Safe Work Australia, 2012). The foundation of risk management is to prevent incidents
from occurring. Accident causation theory are models or tools that are used to assist in
investigating incidents in order to prevent recurrence (Boyle, 2012). The construction industry has
been identified as a priority industry for Australia (Safe Work Australia, 2012) and will be the
focus of the review. The development of an incident reporting template will be supported by
causation models identified as relevant to the construction industry. This template will be designed
for a medium sized organisation defined as having 21 99 workers. This study starts by performing
a review and literature critic of accident causation theories and models. This review highlights the
two most relevant causation theories to the construction industry as Reason s Swiss cheese model
and System dynamics model for the causation of unsafe behaviours (SD CUB). Both models are
discussed in more detail with a comparison of model strengths and weaknesses. From the
comparison an incident reporting template is developed. Finally it is argued that a systematic
robust model should be applied that can manage the variables in the changing work environment of
the construction industry and concludes risk

Baroque Vs Dutch
The Dutch and the French baroque paintings both portray the seventeenth century, but they show
opposite scenes. The French Painting shows that there was more of a hierarchy, at the time France
relied on rich nobles. Their economy was dominated by mercantilism; their social structure was
centered around the Versailles. The Dutch baroque painting shows that the people all see common,
not too rich, it seems as if they did not have a hierarchy. The Netherlands dominated the economy
with free trade and the social order was conservative, the same. During the 17th century when Louis

Dutch was going through The Golden Age and they had to finance the growing trade with the

Business Owner Of Faith Based House Call Company
Thomasson, the business owner of faith based House Call Company, chose to run his business
on his Christian principles. Leaning on the Parable of the Talents to guide his decisions of
employee responsibility, training and excellence, he also continues to strive for excellent
customer service. He believes that he should live out his faith and that means through his
company, not just on a Sunday and Wednesday when he attends church or Bible study with his
group of like minded business owners. As it pertains to both his employee and service manager
Whiting and his customers it seems he is trying to live out James 2:8 9, If you really fulfill the
royal law according to the Scripture, You shall love your neighbor as yourself, you do well; but if
you show partiality, you commit sin, and are convicted by the law as transgressors (NKJV).
Given that Thomasson has rehired Whiting, there should be expectations in place that Whiting

The Similarities Between John Sloan And John Constable
John Constable was born the in year 1776, in Suffolk, England, and was raised in the English
countryside, which greatly influenced his later career as an artist. Almost one hundred years later,
the artist John Sloan was born in 1871, in Lock Haven, Pennsylvania. His subsequent upbringing in
the city of Philadelphia significantly shaped his later career, in a similar fashion to Constable. Both
were brought up, not necessarily aspiring to be artists, but each found his passion for paintinglater in
life. Despite having little formal training, they each went on to become one of the most noted artists
of their times, each developing a fairly distinct style from the very beginnings their careers.
From the start, Constable was more disposed toward landscape painting, mostly scenes of his
family s properties that he had grown up on. Sloan, however, was more disposed to painting
scenes he saw in the city, usually involving people from many different walks of life. Even so, a

while Sloan s angle causes the viewer to feel as if they are floating somewhere above, looking

are right in the foreground, and they block out most of the view of the sky. The difference of
focus can be seen as one observes and compares that to the more prominent natural components in
Constable s piece. The buildings in his painting are more in the background and don t take up very

The biggest problem the Australian Hospital faced was a lack of beds despite the federal government
s $600 million elective surgery blitz in 2009 and 2010 (Wallace, 2011). The NSW planned an
additional 400 beds, which still would not be adequate for the estimated 9,000 patients that
would have their surgeries canceled. According to Owler, It comes down to beds ... we do need
to have a certain number of beds, particularly in places like Westmead and Nepean, where
demand is high. It s unusual for us to cancel patients because we ve run out of time. Another 1450
beds were needed to address the problem (Wallace, 2011). While adding more beds would help it
will not solve the cancellation problems unless the other major factors were addressed.
The data from the surgery dashboard showed the only time the benchmark for same day
cancellations was met was when it was set at 5 % in early 2007 (Wallace, 2011). The benchmark
was changed to 2 % in March 2007. Deputy Smyth was satisfied with a 4 5% rate because all the

For instance,
Emperor Nero is reported to have engaged in a marriage ceremony with one of his male slaves.
Emperor Elagabalus married a Carian slave named Hierocles.
It should be noted, however, that conubium existed only between a civis Romanus and a civis
Romana (that is, between a male Roman citizen and a female Roman citizen), so that a so called
marriage between two Roman males (or with a slave) would have no legal standing in Roman law
(apart, presumably, from the arbitrary will of the emperor in the two aforementioned cases).
Furthermore, matrimonium is an institution involving a mother, mater.
The idea implicit in the word is that a man takes a woman in marriage, in matrimonium ducere, so
that he may have children by her. Still, the lack of legal validity notwithstanding, there is a
consensus among modern historians that same sex relationships existed in ancient Rome, but the
exact frequency and nature of same sex unions during that period is obscure.
In 342 AD Christian emperors Constantius II and Constans issued a law in the Theodosian Code
(C. Th. 9.7.3) prohibiting same sex marriage in Rome and ordering execution for those so married.
The first documented same sex marriage was between the two men Pedro DГaz and MuГ±o

I think there are many reasons the early onset of symptoms of dementia are missed or

reason could be the families does not understand that symptoms like forgetting where they put

parents and the doctors regarding support for the plastic surgery. Most parents do want what is best
for the kid by having them look the same as the other kids, but most parents just do not want to
listen to other people make fun of there kid with down syndrome. People should not care what their
baby looks like. They were born that way and they are beautiful in their own way and they
should stay the same. Surgery can also lead to sensitive issues associated with the motives of
those responsible for having the operation performed. plastic surgery for down syndrome is
really serious and expensive procedure. They should not do the surgery , it could lead to risk

he or she is growing, they are other body parts that are growing with him or her and they may
have to go back and do more surgery. Surgery does not change the way the child mind thinks nor
the way he or she acts.
Parents should understand that kids are beautiful in there own way and it shouldn t matter what
their kid looks like as long as there kid is happy that is all that should matter.
The present study dealt with the attitudes of parents of children with down syndrome and of family
doctors towards reconstructive facial surgery for these children. for both groups, questionnaires
were used to measure the attitudes toward the surgery, and the basis for the decision to have the

Bayer Monsanto Vertical Integration
Consolidation already drives many farmers out of business and restricts many from even
entering the market. Although many farms in the US are small, most food produced and

farms produced 66 percent of all our food. Combine that with large corporate control of food
manufacturing and it isn t hard so see that the many levels of the ag industry are being controlled
by large corporate entities which gives them lots of market power. Although most people only think

Tale Of Two Cities Hate
Two of the most common literary motifs are love and hate. In Charles Dickens s novel A Tale of
Two Cities there is a constant battle between love and hate. Love is representative in friendship
and family. Hate is representative in revenge of the aristocracy. Lucie s love is very evident for
her friends and family, but her friends and family s have been just as evident. Dickens shows
that love overcomes hate, but with consequences when Darnay gives up his family name for the
good of France but is still sentenced to death, when Miss Pross loses her hearing as result of
defending the hypothetical life of Lucie Manette, and when Carton gives up his life for Lucie s
happiness. Darnay s family consists of some of the most awful people in France. His uncle, The
Marquis, symbolizes a Gorgon (114). But regardless of his family s standing in society and all
their money Darnay disowned his family by abandon[ing] (120) his family name for the common
good of his country, France. Even though Darnay acted with persistence and love, his name,
EvrГ©monde, still followed him through life. It caused him to be number one on Madame
Defarge s hit list. When Madame Defarge found out about Darnay and Lucie s wedding, she
continued knitting and said [his destiny] will lead him to the end that is to end him (178). He ends

He says to her for you [...] I would do anything (147). When Darnay is sentenced to death Carton
comes up with a master plan to switch with Darnay to take his place and fall into eternal sleep

(363) Sydney Carton dies. By dying he is recalled to life, he is truly free (363) from the hate of
himself and the rejection he felt from others. Carton s unlimited love for Lucie overcame the
revolutionary s hate, but that came with the consequence of the death of a beloved

...he really thought they did fire to defend themselves. The Bloody Massacre was a killing of five
people and six others were wounded. A more commonly known name is the Boston Massacre. This
was also a key event that led to the start of the Revolutionary War. The Boston Massacre occurred
on March 5th, 1770. It was a street fight between American colonists and British soldiers. American
colonists were outraged about the Townshend Acts of 1767, which was an act that allowed the
British to tax the Americans on paper, led, and tea. The British wanted to keep a tight control over
the Americans, so they passed the Quartering Act, which stated that American colonists had to
house British soldiers. Around two hundred colonists surrounded the British soldiers before the
fight occurred. After taunting from the colonists, a British soldier fired into the crowd. An African
American sailor, named Crispus Attackus, was killed first. Samuel Gray, James Cauldwell, Samuel
Maverick, and Patrick Carr were shot and died later. The Revolution of armed rebellion rose

Essay on Argument for Legalization of Marijuana
Marijuana has become one of the most controversial drugs in America. Ever since its cultivation
began around 1611, marijuana has puzzled people with its effects. Many question marijuana?s
classification as a schedule one drug. A schedule one drug is one that has a high potential for abuse
and no medicinal value. Some argue that the war on drugs, in particular marijuana, has cost
taxpayers billions and is wasting funds that could be used on more important tasks such as
improving transportation or education. As drug arrests rise, so do the populations in state prisons.
This has become an immediate problem with no real solution. The legalization of possessing small
amounts of marijuana can contribute positively to the medical and... Show more content on

other drugs in which it has side effects also. Smoked marijuana has the same affects on the body as
tobacco, which is a legal and tolerated substance. Chronic smokers of marijuana are at risk for

On May 19, 2006, the Osaka District Court issued a decision awarding 6,000 yen (approximately
$54) to each of the plaintiffs, a small group of subscribers of the Yahoo!BB broadband Internet
service, who sued for compensation for the emotional distress that they suffered in connection with
the massive security breach that occurred in early 2004. In this incident, a former temporary
employee at
Softbank BB gave partners a user name and password he had been using when he was working for
Softbank BB to access the company computer systems remotely, and the personal information of at
least 4.6 million customers of the Yahoo!BB service was accessed and used in an effort to extort
approximately 2 billion yen from Softbank.
This case is the first private lawsuit to be filed in connection with this incident. Claims for 100,000

Google, Apple and Semco Essay
Three articles, three companies and three very different managing styles. The articles look at

Each company has its own way of nabbing the spotlight from competitors. Apple is intensely
secretive about its products, so secretive that not even the workers know what they are working on.
This gives Apple a leg up on competitors, when they came up with the iPhone design nobody knew
what they were up to, and then it took other companies trying to steal apples spot light longer to
come up with a product similar. Apple is not like every other company in the same market, like
Microsoft, instead they stepped out of the norm. Everything is created in house and while some
products work with others like iPods and PC, they will work best with apple products. This
creates customer loyalties: if someone buys a Mac is most likely going to buy an iPhone or an
iPod. It is unlike any other computer company. Microsoft for example has to get other companies
to create hardware or software to be compatible with its products. Apple operates within its self,
making it the firm to beat. Google is still going strong, but growth has been decreasing instead of
increasing. With the amount of employees they turn over, they have to hire back. There has to be a
high amount of training with the numbers of workers they loose on a monthly or even weekly
basis. Google still has something going for them, and that is the amount of programs they run. ,

benefit in her quest to deliver evidence based practice in line with the principles underpinning

Nursing has been striving to become a research based profession since the Briggs Report (1972)
and the lack of apparent integration of research findings into nursing practice has been lamented
consistently ever since (Walsh and Ford, 1989). As long ago as 1989 the Department of Health
(DoH), in their Strategy for Nursing stated; All clinical practice should be founded on up to date
information and research findings.
Practitioners should be encouraged to identify the needs and opportunities for research presented by
their work. Research is fundamental to achieving evidence based practice in nursing. Evidence
based health care aims to promote clinical and cost effective care/treatment through the explicit,
conscientious, and judicious use of the currently available best evidence from research to guide
decisions (Sackett et al, 1996).
Recently, there has been an increasing emphasis on evidence based practice. The NHS information
strategy, the development of the NHS net and the National Electronic Library for Health all testify
to the NHS commitment of bringing research evidence closer to clinical decision makers
(Thompson et al 2001). Journal based initiatives are also available such as Evidence Based Nursing
(Cullum et al. 1997) and Clinical Effectiveness in Nursing (Newell 1997). Furthermore, guidance
can be found in publications such as NICE (National Institute

Church of the Holy Sepulchre was originally built by the Roman Emperor Constantine (272 337)

the Rock of Golgotha was discovered. In addition, Helena, Constantine s mother, is purported to

original Roman Church incorporated the locations of Jesus crucifixion, his tomb, and the site of
his resurrection. The church was severely damaged in 614 when the Persian Emperor Chosroes
II (550 628) conquered Jerusalem and captured Holy relics, including the True Cross. In 630
Emperor Heraclius (575 641) reclaimed the region, recaptured the True Cross, and began
rebuilding the Church. However, the site was again conquered by Arabs in 638, though notably the
Church of the Holy Sepulchre remained a Christian site of worship which was not destroyed or

Moreover, each season reveals a mysterious and often terrible secret like for example murder
that, throughout the storyline, could not be hidden under the surface anymore. Mary Alice
Young (Brenda Strong), the housewife whose secrets led to her committing suicide in the first

an idea by Marc Cherry and finally having been produced by a company named yU+co , the

However, despite being Emmy nominated, the opening theme is only shown in various episodes.
In many of them, only the first or the last picture is portrayed. The first picture, which is

  • 2. Police And Criminal Evidence Act create an understanding and response to this statement, I will first explain the legislation that police have to abide by when it comes to the treatment and rights of a suspect before they have turned into the defendant . This will have a main focus on Code A and Code C within the Police and Criminal Evidence Act (PACE) 1984 and parts of the Criminal Justiceand Public Order Act (CJPOA) 1994. I will then address the two models of criminal process created by H. Packer; these models both have different values and create a debate on whether the rights of the defendant should be protected rather than the victim. The Human RightsAct 1998 will then be used to show that it can be used to help terrorists stay in the United Kingdom. To conclude I will give my opinion on the statement and explain how the research I have found backs it up. In the 1970s there was a debate in the treatment and evidence collected about the arrest of suspects in conjunction with the bombings of Birmingham and Guildford. This then caused the Home Secretary to appoint a Royal Commission on Criminal Procedure (RCCP), which later helped introduce the Police and Criminal Evidence Act (PACE) 1984 (Newburn, 2003, p.93). PACE sets out the powers that police have to stop and search, arrest and how they should treat suspects when they are detained and questioned. It aims to protect the rights of individuals (PACE, 1984). Under code A of PACE, the police need reasonable grounds for suspicion to stop and search a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Caste System And Hinduism The caste system and Hinduism have been heavily intertwined since the beginning of Hinduism in 1500 BCE with the Vedic period (Molloy, 80). So much so, that even after hundreds of years the very same structure persisted into the Upanishadic period of Hinduism. The system was based on four castes (varna): The priest (brahmin), the warrior (kshatriya, rajanya), the merchant (vaishya), and the peasant (shudra). The untouchables (dalits) were ostracized from the caste system, as they are considered too impure to partake in the social hierarchy of the higher castes. Two prominent figures tried to help the Dalits at different points in history: Mahatma Gandhi and B.R. Ambedkar. They both had different solutions to help the Dalits escape the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even further dividing the castes is the concept of varnasramadharma (Jones, 2329). With this system, the four varnas have ashrama tied to them, specific duties to complete across the four defined stages of life (Molloy, 89). This model was developed specifically looking at the ancient ideal life of the highest social caste, the brahmin. This is a prime example of how structured Hindu society is around the caste system, and how dependant they are on the ancient teachings of the religion. The stages of life are linear, and begin at the age of 8 with the Student stage. During this stage of life, the person focuses on building a spiritual basis for their life through studying religious texts. At age 20 they enter the householder stage. They typically get married through an arranged marriage from the parents, and fulfill their societal duty of having children. Once their children have grown up and have kids of their own, the person may enter the retiree stage. Here is where they return somewhat to the religious focus of their life much like when they were in the student stage. Finally is the optional stage of renunciate. During this stage the person becomes akin to a monk, they wear orange robes, participate once again in celibacy, and travel to gain further spiritual insight to hasten their achievement of moksha (Molloy, 89 90 and Jones, 2329 2330). However, there is one group that is exempt from the ashrama and varna ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. A Report On The Swiss Confederation In 1291, the Swiss Confederation was founded. In 1499, the Swiss Confederation obtained independence from the Holy Roman Empire. Finally, in 1848, a constitution was created that replaced the confederation with a centralized federal government. Today, the Swiss Confederation is most commonly known as Switzerland, one of the world s richest and most innovative countries (The World Factbook: SWITZERLAND). In efforts to determine whether our firm should pursue business engagements in Switzerland, I, Paula Cuerquis, Senior Macroeconomist at our multinational corporation, created a report that outlines the overall macroeconomic conditions of the country of interest. In this report, I will be providing an assessment of Switzerland s current... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An example of this problematic dependence occurred in 2008 during the global financial crisis that resulted in the economic downturn in 2009. During this time, the demand for Swiss goods plummeted putting Switzerland into a recession. While the Swiss National Bank, SNC, implemented a zero interest rate policy that rejuvenated the economy, the domino effect that occurred due to this economic downturn resulted in the strength of the Swiss franc but also weakened the competition for trade and weakened the economy s growth outlook (The World Factbook: Switzerland). As you can see in the image to the right, as of 2015, 43.4% of Swiss exports are generated by the European Union (Switzerland Country Profile). An important thing to note here is that the Swiss economy is open to foreign investment. According to Heritage.org, Switzerland ranks a score, out of 95.0, of 90.0 in regards to Trade Freedom, 85.0 in Investment Freedom, and an increasing 90.0 score in regards to Financial Freedom. Sitzerland s capitalizes on their openness to trade with industrial products but with a protected agricultural sector (Switzerland). Forbes ranked Switzerland #16 as one of the best countries for business. Moving forward, like I touched upon earlier, with a population of 8.1 million people, it s astonishing how only 4.6% of Switzerland s labor force is unemployed. • 6. The Ethical Philosophy Of The United States Organizations have disparate marketing strategies when selecting choices that affect stakeholders. Each approach touches the consumer and the Earth; it defines if the business is socially accountable for humanity. When the ethical philosophy a company follows is for universal individual rights regardless of the outcome, it is moral idealism. In contrast, when only considering the greater good for the greatest number and appraising cost and the benefit of the choice it is utilitarianism. If the benefits exceed the costs, then the behavior is ethical, if not, then the behavior is considered unethical. This philosophy underlies the economic tenets of capitalism and is embraced by many business executives (Kerin, Hartley, Rudelius, 2015,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A company incorporating structures to guide executives that considers all the variables began with Robert Wood Johnson of Johnson Johnson. In 1934, he wrote a credo which became a structure for other organizations to consider. The statement described that their responsibility was to all users of their products, and that the stockholders should realize a fair return without doing harm to a consumer (Johnson Johnson, 1943). These principles established ethical guidelines for Johnson Johnson and a model for other industries. В¬The United States Civil Rights Act of 1964, the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970 and the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act of 1977 helped companies to become socially responsible (De George, 2015). Ethics and social responsibilities are evident with British Petroleum s handling of the Deepwater Horizon spill in 2010, and Toyota Motor Corporation s attempt to create an eco friendly vehicle. Utilitarianism was exhibited by BP and moral idealism was Toyota s motive to produce environmentally green vehicles. British Petroleum redesigned their name to make it more environmentally friendly, it was changed to Beyond Petroleum, which professed their focus on renewable energy not just hydrocarbons, and promoted a pro social marketing plan (Balmer et al., 2011). In 2008, they defined their sustainable conduct: we aim for no accidents, no harm to people and no damage to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Egyptians had a meaning for all items example jewelry, art, and obituary rituals. Building this pyramid was no exception to have meaning in its structure. In building the pyramidof Giza the sides are smooth and angled to embody the emissions from the sun this was believed to aid the king in his voyage to the afterlife. This pyramid was built as a tomb to hold the remains of the king once he died. Similarly, to numerous royals tombs this pyramid has extravagant paintings and had offerings to the gods to help ease the transition from life to death. The Solar temple is located on the shores of Abusir lake. The solar temple was discovered during the time of 1898 to 1901 by Heinrich Schaeffer and Ludwig Borchardt. The Solar temple of Niuserre if we currently view this temple isn t as striking as the pyramid of Giza. Nonetheless, the significance of this structure lies within. This temple is rectangular in design it was created to be aligned with the focal point of the piece which was the compass in the center of the courtyard. In the center of the courtyard their lays an alter this alter has an upper block that is round this could be the symbol for the sun god Ra. Holden Caulfield s The Catcher s The Rye Are 50 s teens able to survive the hurtful but unavoidable transition of becoming a grown up as they struggle with the changes that come along with it? JD. Salinger s 1951 book, The Catcher in the Rye, shows us how society treated their confused and changing teenagers during their transition into adulthood. The book s main character Holden Caulfield is being pressured into growing up even though he doesn t feel ready, to lead an adult life. He is still struggling socially and mourning for his deceased brother whose death turned Holden upside down and into a negative, hopeless person from a young age, which causes him to be distracted, indifferent and to flunk every school he goes to. Therefore, Holden Caulfield seems to be dealing with a world that is forcing him to change his ways and grow up because of his age while he struggles with his past, present and future, in this JD Salinger classic. Thesis Statement Brainstorm: 1 Salinger s main character Holden, is seen to be struggling with his past, present and future in The Catcher in the Rye. 2 Holden is seen to be having unspecified negative thoughts about growing up throughout JD Salinger s famous The Catcher in the Rye. 3 JD Salinger s The Catcher in the Rye s main character Holden Caulfield seems to be dealing with a world that forces him to change his ways because of his age and what it s expected from him while he is struggling with his past, present and future. Night of the scorpion is a poem about a woman getting stung by a scorpion and the events that follow it. Although the two poems sound totally different, they both convey the message about equality in society. In night of the scorpion the people are peasants. They are religious people. The poet might prefer the garbage men, this is due to the words he uses to describe the garbage men. The garbage men up since four a.m. grungy from their route on the way home. This shows that the author feels sympathy for the two men, having to do the hard tasks that they do. The final verse suggests that the two sets of people should perhaps not be treated so differently. The cool couple are treated as special people and have it easy where as the Garbage men have hard tasks to do but are treated much worse than the couple. This conveys the point that there should be equality in society. The language used in night of the scorpion has a very religious aspect to it. This shows the peasants beliefs in god. I say this, rather than describing it as merely a novel, although that is precisely what it is, because Powers has herein created something more than your typical story. In this work, two seemingly unrelated paths are set on ambagious paths which will ultimately culminate in their intertwining. On one path we are presented with the apotheosis of a specific corporations development, and on the other is the idiosyncratic life of an individual living in a place where this corporation has its hand on virtually everything. Herein Powers has presented what is probably the most riveting illustration of a fictional corporation s rise. In fact, it is so engrossed in detail that parts of it rival real corporate histories, such as The Great A P and Nature s Metropolis. The central question here is derived from more than everyday consumers being buffaloed by Machiavellian corporations. Rather, Powers ascertains the question of how have we come to be where we are? In doing so, Powers destroys the illusion that geography is solely composed of maps. His illustration of how a corporation can grow, and in seeming reaction to that growth an individual woman can wither, permeates the very texture of our lives. You see, it is this mode of production, for which we all possess profound disdain, that is the source of our everyday living and experiences. Some of these qualities include courage, justice, and perseverance. However, many say these characters are meant to be portrayed as completely evil, which leaves a reader wondering as to why they display a certain level of morality. It is obvious that the characters believe that they have been wronged and are seeking justice for themselves against what they view as a tyrant of the heavens. The Similarities Between John Sloan And John Constable John Constable was born the in year 1776, in Suffolk, England, and was raised in the English countryside, which greatly influenced his later career as an artist. Almost one hundred years later, the artist John Sloan was born in 1871, in Lock Haven, Pennsylvania. His subsequent upbringing in the city of Philadelphia significantly shaped his later career, in a similar fashion to Constable. Both were brought up, not necessarily aspiring to be artists, but each found his passion for paintinglater in life. Despite having little formal training, they each went on to become one of the most noted artists of their times, each developing a fairly distinct style from the very beginnings their careers. From the start, Constable was more disposed toward landscape painting, mostly scenes of his family s properties that he had grown up on. Sloan, however, was more disposed to painting scenes he saw in the city, usually involving people from many different walks of life. Even so, a great deal of affinity can be found between ... The cancellations of the same day surgeries was not a good use of operating rooms, time and staff. The biggest problem the Australian Hospital faced was a lack of beds despite the federal government s $600 million elective surgery blitz in 2009 and 2010 (Wallace, 2011). The NSW planned an additional 400 beds, which still would not be adequate for the estimated 9,000 patients that would have their surgeries canceled. According to Owler, It comes down to beds ... we do need to have a certain number of beds, particularly in places like Westmead and Nepean, where demand is high. It s unusual for us to cancel patients because we ve run out of time. Another 1450 beds were needed to address the problem (Wallace, 2011). While adding more beds would help it will not solve the cancellation problems unless the other major factors were addressed. The data from the surgery dashboard showed the only time the benchmark for same day cancellations was met was when it was set at 5 % in early 2007 (Wallace, 2011). The benchmark was changed to 2 % in March 2007. Deputy Smyth was satisfied with a 4 5% rate because all the other Australian hospitals performed at that rate. For instance, Emperor Nero is reported to have engaged in a marriage ceremony with one of his male slaves. Emperor Elagabalus married a Carian slave named Hierocles. It should be noted, however, that conubium existed only between a civis Romanus and a civis Romana (that is, between a male Roman citizen and a female Roman citizen), so that a so called marriage between two Roman males (or with a slave) would have no legal standing in Roman law (apart, presumably, from the arbitrary will of the emperor in the two aforementioned cases). Furthermore, matrimonium is an institution involving a mother, mater. The idea implicit in the word is that a man takes a woman in marriage, in matrimonium ducere, so that he may have children by her. Still, the lack of legal validity notwithstanding, there is a consensus among modern historians that same sex relationships existed in ancient Rome, but the exact frequency and nature of same sex unions during that period is obscure. In 342 AD Christian emperors Constantius II and Constans issued a law in the Theodosian Code (C. Th. 9.7.3) prohibiting same sex marriage in Rome and ordering execution for those so married.
