E5 Consequences
If you…you could… Work in groups of three or four. One person says something he/she is likely or possible to do in the future. Example: “I’m going to eat a hamburger for lunch.” Each of you take turns giving a consequence of that action. For example: “If a hamburger for lunch, you could have a stomachache in the afternoon.” Another person in your group will then create a consequence of that action. e.g. “If your stomach hurts you might not go to class. And the next person might add: “If you don’t go to class, you could miss an important assignment”. Finally, person who made the first statement will say whether or not the consequences are realistic or not.
Fill in at least half the sentences below to make them true for you, then read out just the part you have written to see if your partner can guess which sentence you are reading from As soon as this class finishes, _______________________ As long as I have enough money, _____________________ Unless it rains, ____________________________________ Before I retire, ____________________________________ If I see my ex-girlfriend/ boyfriend again, ________________ When I next see my mother/ father, ____________________ As soon as my weekend starts, _______________________ If I have to become a full-time housewife/ househusband, ______________ If my job doesn’t seem secure, ____________________________ If I am offered a great job somewhere far away, _________________ When I next have a day off, ________________________________ Until my English is fluent, __________________________________ If I feel exhausted this evening, ________________________________ I will, I might, I could
