Evidence: results 2012 Summer challenge.
• 550 participants from 25 companies did over 200 million steps over 6 weeks, equivalent to
86,000 miles raising over ÂŁ7000 for 15 charities.
• The average daily steps was 10,762 and increased each week of the challenge
• 87% of participants completed the challenge.
• End of challenge survey results:
• Before the challenge just 34% met the UK
government activity guideline (30 minutes/day, 5
days/week), this increased to 82% at the end of
the challenge.
• 30% lost weight.
• 63% reported it had improved team relationships
and/or the office atmosphere.
• 93% reported the challenge had benefited their
personal health and wellbeing.
• 95% intend to maintain higher levels of activity.

In the UK we have an employee engagement problem, ranking 9th amongst the world’s 12 largest economies by GDP   The latest CBI employment trends survey stated that securing high levels of EE was the top priority for UK business.   As well as performance and productivity, employee engagement impacts positively on levels of absenteeism and on retention,   Companies with highly engaged staff report employees take approximately half the number of days absence than that of low engagement companies.   Those employees in high engagement companies also report significantly less workplace stress, 28% versus 39% (Aon Hewitt 2012).
