The book Control Loop Foundation and its companion website controlloopfoundation.com have been widely used. One of the reasons for this was the team’s decision to allow access to study materials and labs from a wide-variety of PCs and Tablets. Doing this required putting a web interface on top of DeltaV, supporting multiple browsers, and providing access to continuous and historical data from web pages. Details on the web site design and construction are addressed in this workshop.
The document discusses commissioning issues and solutions for fieldbus implementations. It describes the commissioning process for both 4-20mA and Foundation Fieldbus systems. Advanced diagnostic tools can reduce commissioning time by automating testing and documentation. These tools also provide online monitoring to detect physical layer issues and reduce maintenance costs. Common installation mistakes like improper wiring can be identified and addressed early using portable fieldbus testers during the commissioning process.
This document discusses a Fieldbus Foundation event demonstrating their FOUNDATION for Remote Operations Management (ROM) technology. The event will take place at Petrobras CENPES in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in April 2013. FOUNDATION for ROM allows for remote monitoring and control of field devices by integrating different wireless technologies like WirelessHART and ISA100.11a with FOUNDATION fieldbus wired infrastructure. This provides diagnostic data management and remote access capabilities for remote asset monitoring. The Petrobras demonstration will showcase how FOUNDATION for ROM addresses industry needs for remote asset management.
This document discusses the need for IMS configuration management and audit tools to manage the complex distributed architecture of IMS networks. It notes that IMS networks consist of thousands of configured parameters across many elements that must all be aligned. Deviations from standard configurations can cause outages. It states that the majority of outages are due to manual misconfigurations and lack of processes. Proper configuration management is needed to automate operations, improve decision making, and reduce manual touches to reduce risks of outages during network expansion.
This Emerson Exchange, 2013 workshop presentation addresses the online training available through Emerson Process educational services. Effective, consistent, easy to access on-line courses have been developed to address customer training requirements. eRPortal Software Group’s CMMS software manages assets throughout their entire lifecycle. From the initial investment to final disposal and every stage in between, eRPortal streamlines procurement management, inventory control, materials issues, instrument tracking, outbound logistics, and reporting and analysis. Below is a list of the top ten benefits, thats can easily make the case for a CMMS software solution that is right for the organization.
This document discusses enterprise asset management (EAM) software and its benefits for mid-sized companies. It outlines the key functions of EAM, including asset tracking, work order management, and preventive maintenance. Large EAM systems do not meet the needs of mid-sized companies, while low-cost computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) lack necessary functionality. The document identifies five critical success factors for EAM deployment: interoperability, ease of use, flexibility, safety and environmental compliance, and cost/implementation. It provides two case studies of EAM improving efficiency at a manufacturer and water treatment facility. The presentation argues that a focused EAM solution can help mid-sized companies achieve productivity gains and expense reductions.
This document discusses achieving lean maintenance through integrating human-machine interface (HMI) and computerized maintenance management system (CMMS). It outlines the challenges maintenance managers face in minimizing costs and optimizing asset performance. Several approaches to HMI interoperability with CMMS are presented and factors to consider like objectives, existing systems, and return on investment. Integrating the two systems can provide benefits like higher efficiency, improved responsiveness, and minimized downtime. An example is given of how real-time machine data in SCADA could trigger a work order in CMMS to quickly address issues.
To find the best CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System), carefully evaluate your current system's capabilities and limitations. Form a selection committee representing key departments to identify requirements. Consult process managers and current users to understand business needs. Communicate requirements to potential vendors and request proposals to select a CMMS that meets your organization's asset management and maintenance goals. Choosing the right CMMS is essential for effective maintenance processes and improving product quality in manufacturing.

Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software FuzzingAftab Hussain
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.
