Data Con LA 2020
Description
The recent proliferation of predictive analytics within companies is of limited benefit unless these companies learn to measure, understand, and embrace a critical concept: error. There is no such thing as a perfect predictive model and all tools using any sort of predictive model will have error. Despite being relatively easy to implement and understand, consistent error measurement continues to be underutilized or even completely avoided. In this session we will discuss
*Why embracing error is so valuable to companies.
*We will then review basic ways to measure error in commonly used models and in data source systems such as CRMs and ERPs.
*Most importantly, we will review some ways to approach company leadership with the concept of error.

Beyond Time and Attendance: The Transformative Power of Workforce ManagementHuman Capital Media
It's not news that automating cumbersome time and attendance processes can help improve organizational efficiency and data accuracy. Or that software solutions to track time and attendance can help your organization improve reporting capabilities and keep up with compliance mandates.
But the benefits of automated time and attendance solutions don’t stop there.
Workforce management processes also produce data that can help you analyze your workforce to measure productivity, manage cost, and monitor progress toward your strategic goals. Join Mollie Lombardi, vice president of workforce management and principle analyst at Brandon Hall Group and Jim Manfield, Kronos solution consultant, as they discuss:
Moving beyond the traditional benefits of time and attendance automation, and truly understanding the ROI of accurate, accessible time and attendance data.
Making the case for why organizational leaders and senior executives should care about automation, integration and self-service capabilities of time and attendance solutions.
Using time and attendance data to lay the foundation for powerful workforce and business analytics — even if you are just beginning your business intelligence or analytics journey.

The need to adapt quickly only continues to increase. Decision cycles can no longer span weeks and months, but must occur in days or even hours. Traditional methods for managing data cannot fulfill this business requirement. Rather, organizations must embrace new technologies and practices for accessing, processing and delivering not just data, but also analytical models. In doing so, they will achieve a level of decision management that can fundamentally transform how their business works.
Register for this episode of Hot Technologies to hear veteran Analysts Rick Sherman of Athena IT Solutions, and Wayne Eckerson of Eckerson Group, as they give their insights on how today's analytics leaders are solving serious challenges by connecting data and experience. They'll be briefed by David Ross of FICO, who will outline his firm's recent innovations in turning analytical insights into actionable strategies that deliver results faster. He'll outline how FICO is leveraging the spectrum of data available today, including business intelligence systems and a wide range of Big Data sources.

How to Integrate Data to Drive Customer SuccessGainsight
The most successful Enterprise SaaS companies know that growing revenue only through new customer acquisition is the less efficient way to scale. Rather, they understand that growing revenue within your existing customer base - through up-sells, cross-sells, and expanded use - is the most profitable way to scale.
In fact, Enterprise SaaS companies that grow revenue - and company valuation - by expanding revenue within their existing customer base also know the key to making this work is to focus on - and operationalize - Customer Success.
This presentation - How to Integrate Data to Drive Customer Success - is from Pulse 2014, the biggest Customer Success industry event ever and included panelists from Cornerstone OnDemand, Citrix, Box
This was my TechTO presentation from Sept 18, 2017 on how to avoid the HiPPO and covered 3 quick lessons learned in startup / product development decision making
Pluto7 - Tableau Webinar on enabling Organization to be Data Driven in 201...Manju Devadas
Big Data and BI initiatives needs a holistic strategy and execution. The content walks through how an organization became data driven in less than 6 months with Tableau, Alteryx, Splunk and traditional BI enabled by Pluto7 ( www.pluto7.com )
In this presentation, Expert Decisions Inc. highlights the latest in Product innovation and how software tools can help optimize the planning and delivery processes
Data Virtualization for Business Consumption (Australia)Denodo
Watch full webinar here: https://bit.ly/3llCY4s
A successful data virtualization initiative bridges the gap between two very different perspectives of data management: IT and business. However, most of the emphasis in these initiatives is put on the IT side, modeling, performance, security, etc. Business users are often left with a large library of data sets, hard to use and navigate.
Denodo’s data catalog has been designed to cover the needs of those users and simplify the use and understanding of the virtual layer from the business perspective. It provides the extra capabilities required for self-service initiatives to succeed, while avoiding many of the common pitfalls of other cataloging solutions.
Attend this session to learn:
- The role of the data catalog in a logical architecture
- How to incorporate the data catalog in the life of “citizen analysts”
- Best practices in documentation and metadata management
- Advanced usage of Denodo’s data catalog
The Building Blocks of QuestDB, a Time Series Databasejavier ramirez
Talk Delivered at Valencia Codes Meetup 2024-06.
Traditionally, databases have treated timestamps just as another data type. However, when performing real-time analytics, timestamps should be first class citizens and we need rich time semantics to get the most out of our data. We also need to deal with ever growing datasets while keeping performant, which is as fun as it sounds.
It is no wonder time-series databases are now more popular than ever before. Join me in this session to learn about the internal architecture and building blocks of QuestDB, an open source time-series database designed for speed. We will also review a history of some of the changes we have gone over the past two years to deal with late and unordered data, non-blocking writes, read-replicas, or faster batch ingestion.

Techniques to optimize the pagerank algorithm usually fall in two categories. One is to try reducing the work per iteration, and the other is to try reducing the number of iterations. These goals are often at odds with one another. Skipping computation on vertices which have already converged has the potential to save iteration time. Skipping in-identical vertices, with the same in-links, helps reduce duplicate computations and thus could help reduce iteration time. Road networks often have chains which can be short-circuited before pagerank computation to improve performance. Final ranks of chain nodes can be easily calculated. This could reduce both the iteration time, and the number of iterations. If a graph has no dangling nodes, pagerank of each strongly connected component can be computed in topological order. This could help reduce the iteration time, no. of iterations, and also enable multi-iteration concurrency in pagerank computation. The combination of all of the above methods is the STICD algorithm. [sticd] For dynamic graphs, unchanged components whose ranks are unaffected can be skipped altogether.

Enhanced Enterprise Intelligence with your personal AI Data Copilot.pdfGetInData
Recently we have observed the rise of open-source Large Language Models (LLMs) that are community-driven or developed by the AI market leaders, such as Meta (Llama3), Databricks (DBRX) and Snowflake (Arctic). On the other hand, there is a growth in interest in specialized, carefully fine-tuned yet relatively small models that can efficiently assist programmers in day-to-day tasks. Finally, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) architectures have gained a lot of traction as the preferred approach for LLMs context and prompt augmentation for building conversational SQL data copilots, code copilots and chatbots.
In this presentation, we will show how we built upon these three concepts a robust Data Copilot that can help to democratize access to company data assets and boost performance of everyone working with data platforms.
Why do we need yet another (open-source ) Copilot?
How can we build one?

Adjusting OpenMP PageRank : SHORT REPORT / NOTESSubhajit Sahu
For massive graphs that fit in RAM, but not in GPU memory, it is possible to take
advantage of a shared memory system with multiple CPUs, each with multiple cores, to
accelerate pagerank computation. If the NUMA architecture of the system is properly taken
into account with good vertex partitioning, the speedup can be significant. To take steps in
this direction, experiments are conducted to implement pagerank in OpenMP using two
different approaches, uniform and hybrid. The uniform approach runs all primitives required
for pagerank in OpenMP mode (with multiple threads). On the other hand, the hybrid
approach runs certain primitives in sequential mode (i.e., sumAt, multiply).
