DUTIES AS A NURSE MANAGER
Nurses who serve in management positions are expected to not only make vital decisions to assist in patient care but are also
expected to carry out defined duties that include the following:
1. Staff management (Supervising and guiding the employees for efficiency in performance. It ensures and drives smoother
workflow, effectiveness, and productivity in the department/organization.)
2. Case management (Collaborative process of assessment, planning, facilitation, care coordination, evaluation and advocacy
for options and services to meet an individual’s and family’s comprehensive health needs through
communication and available resources to promote patient safety, quality of care, and cost
effective outcomes.
3. Treatment planning (Works with consultant and on duty medical officers to plan the effective treatment for the
patient)
4. Recruitment (Process of identifying, screening, shortlisting and hiring potential resource for filling up the vacant
positions in an organization.)

5. Budgeting (Budget is basically a financial plan for a defined period, normally a year that is known to greatly enhance the
success of any financial undertaking) Budgeting is the process of designing, implementing and operating budgets. It is the
managerial process of budget planning and preparation, budgetary control and the related procedures.
6. Scheduling (Art of planning your activities so that you can achieve your goals and priorities in the time you have available)
7. Discharge planning
8. Mentoring (Patience and the passion to teach or share knowledge with others) a synergetic relationship between a beginning
nurse (the mentee) and a nurse with multiple years of experience (the mentor).
9. Developing educational plans (ICN training, Trainings for trach tube care, ETT care, chest tube care etc.)
10. Records management (Patients admission related ,Patients on going treatment related, discharge related, specific
trainings related)
