Abbey, Cowboys And Indians Part II, Abbey
Throughout the entirety of this memoir Abbey utilizes pieces of writing from a multitude of
genres to emphasize his argument. He effectively integrates quotes from poetry and drama into
his writing to make his memoir more operative. There are many examples of where Abbey
quotes other literary works and through this essay I will be focusing one specific example. In
the chapter Cowboys and Indians Part II, Abbey refers to William Blake s Evening Star. Thou
fair hair d angel of the evening, Now, while the sun rests on the mountains light, Thy bright torch
of love; Thy radiant crown Put on, and smile upon our evening bed! Smile on our loves... This
poem was part of Blake s first published work Poetical Sketches. The poems protest against war,...

Desert Solitaire is not a memoir that satisfies the literary taste of the general audience. It is in
fact, at times, a difficult novel to take in, due to the large number of contradictions and the
unconventional themes portrayed in the memoir. By adding works from different genres, he is
able to bring in different aspects that will appeal to a larger audience. Though he only uses
small sections of the different works, it allows a larger audience to comprehend the ideas that
Abbey so desperately desires to portray. In conclusion, Abbey has found a way to use the works
of others to support his views. He could ve just stated his ideas, but he takes the extra step to use
the work of other authors. Why? Personally I believe that the use of other literary works not only
strengthens his argument but also shows Abbey s literary skill. He is able to integrate seemingly
unrelated ideas into evidence for his claims. The use of the different genres allows for connections
between different pieces of works and allows the reader to think more deeply about to the memoir.

Philippines Research Paper
The Philippines is located in Asia, it s a large island that has a lot of diversity and culture. The
Philippines is located directly above Indonesia and is below Taiwan. It is home to over one
hundred and five million people. The Philippines is actually considered an archipelago, and is
the second largest one in the world. The landscape is beautiful that is made up of many islands,
different landmarks and history. The capital of the Philippines is Manila, which has the highest
populated density in the world. The Philippines is a very diverse island because when it was
being established the people that came there were mostly immigrants and migrated there from
other lands. They were mainly descents of Chinese, but they also have descents of Spanish and
American. They had very little contact with surrounding countries. Since, the population was made
up of immigrants the Philippines was passed around by different rulers. At one point, the
Philippines was ruled by the Spanish and that s why most Filipinos have Spanish names because
they required them to. The Philippines gets its name from the King of Spain, Philip II, who was

Dunstan Ramsay Fifth Business Quotes
Dunstan Ramsay is Fifth Business The novel Fifth Business by Robertson Davies is a fictional
autobiography of the narrator, Dunstan Ramsay. Dunstan outlines his life experiences and pays
special attention to saints and religion, both of which interest him. Although the story is about
Dunstan, he seems to have a supporting role in the lives of others. In this book, Dunstan Ramsay is
referred to as:
Fifth Business because he is the one who knows the secret of the hero s birth, or comes to the
assistance of the heroine when she thinks all is lost, or keeps the hermitess in her cell, or may
even be the cause of somebody s death if that is part of the plot. (Davies, 227)
The Fifth Business is an important character in a story because they aid in completing a story.

Comparing Abercrombie And Fitch, Forever 21, American...
Social Marketing
Of the hundreds of named brand clothing that form part of the retail and fashion industry I chose
to compare, for my analysis, Abercrombie Fitch, Forever 21, American Eagle, and H M. These
stores are prominent, well known for selling apparel, shoes, and accessories by the means of
offering sales and promotions to their customers. This is a clever strategy for attracting customers,
allowing them to believe that they bought goods at affordable, convenient prices and not to mention
the prestigious name prescribed to the clothing brands. Using keyhole.co as my main source, I
obtained relevant and valuable information regarding the status of these brands. My intentions
were to compare a period of 14 days, however, due to the limited access that I received from my
free trial, the program only allowed me to see fewer of the dates than I anticipated. I want to take
this opportunity and mention ahead of time that due to the various and distinctive products that
are sold from these stores, when looking for the spending capacity I decided to focus on shirts
/ jeans for men and women and compare the prices among them since each of these retailers carry
those items and as a way to make this report easier to contrast and comprehend. Also, when
approaching the section of setting , I screen shotted some of the images on Instagram and made
them into a collage to separate the type of clothes and trends that each of these brands sell currently.

Analysis Of Ernest Hemingway s Hills Like White Elephants
Discussing the Elephant in the Room The topic of Hills Like White Elephants by Ernest
Hemingway continues to be a hot button issue, even 90 years after the story s publication.
Though not as scandalous as it must have been in 1927, it remains the subject of great debate.
Two lovers are awaiting a train that will whisk them away to Madrid for the purpose of an
abortion. Even though the decision was made before arriving at the station, they continue to
debate whether she will go through with it. The American s persuasive dialogue makes it
apparent that he wants Jig to have the abortion and is concerned that she will change her mind,
however she is more concerned with the fate of her relationship with the man and the effects an
abortion may have on her. The first indication of a division between the lovers is the description
of the setting where Hemingway writes ...the station was between two lines of rails in the sun (2
3), the rail lines representing the two people and the station the division between them. Upon
arriving, they immediately orders two beers. The lovers order several alcoholic drinks during
their short 40 minute wait at the station, presumably to ease the tension and calm the anxiety.
Once the couple is settled with their drinks, Jig makes an observation about their view of the
hills, saying They look like white elephants, (9) to which the American responds I ve never seen
one, (10). Here is where the proverbial can of worms is opened. The woman

The Flu is an Imminent Pandemic Essay
Flu: The Imminent Pandemic
Influenza is an everyday disease that affects thousands worldwide. Despite its reputation as a
mundane sickness, the flu (especially the avian flu) is widely touted by experts as the propagator
of the next deadly pandemic. The secret to this virus lethality is its antigenic shifting, leading to
increased virulence and transmission factors. If one strain of a super flu begins circulating,
millions of lives and billions of dollars will be lost. Only by preparing a national and worldwide
response to this threat will we be able to combat this imminent pandemic.
Deadlier than the Black Death, more lethal than nuclear warfare this is the modus operandi of the
pathogenic virus alphainfluenzavirus ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yet the flu is still a threat to humans, even in countries with access to excellent medical care.
Why? Although yearly vaccines prevent many people from succumbing the disease, the flu virus
can go through what is called an antigenic shift one strain of the flu can jump between two
different species, go through an intermediate host to another species, or genetically mix when two
strains meet in the same cell (CNN 2). To give one example, let s say a common human strain
(H3N2) finds a human cell and uses its hemagglutinin proteins to infiltrate it. Another strain that
infects birds, such as H5N1, enters the same cell. These two sets of genetic material mix to yield a
new strain, which may inherit the transmission and severity factors from both parent strains to
produce a new virulent virus in humans (CNN 3). This is how zoonotic strains of pathogens enter
the human pool of diseases. If we see this happen with a strain of avian flu, the consequences will
be overwhelming.
The impact of seasonal influenza is already severely underestimated, killing between a quarter to a
half a million people each year and costing billions of dollars in productivity (Wilschut 17). With
one strain of the super flu, we could be facing a worldwide catastrophe. A typical pandemic occurs
in multi year waves, beginning with a mutation in the original virus and spreading into subsequent
milder cycles of disease,

Major Discoveries in Electrical Communication in the 1800’s
The nineteenth century was a very prolific era of discovery in electrical knowledge and
technologies that laid the foundation for modern electrical communication. During this period of
time the foundations of modern electrically based technologies were discovered. The nineteenth
century began with a debate between Luigi Galvani, and Alessandro Volta regarding the source of
electricityin Galvani s famous frog experiment. These debates lead to the invention of the battery
by Volta, and the invention of Volta s. Volta s discoveries would lead the way for Ohm s law
several years later. However, before that discovery was made Hans Christian Г rstead discovered
electromagnetism, which was then used by AndrГ© Marie AmperГЁ to show that magnetism...

Galvani noticed that when a metal scalpel was brought close one of the nerves in the frog that the
frog s leg would move. Galvani stated that the electricity observed in the frogs was intrinsic the
nerves of the frog. Galvani used multiple different metals combinations to demonstrate the electric
phenomenon. He would further demonstrate that metals were seemingly unneeded. He did this by
manipulating the nerves and muscles of the frogs in such way that caused the same twitch, as
when a metal object was brought near. The publication of his research in 1791 would peak the
interest of Alessandro Volta. Volta was convinced that Galvani s animal electricity was not the
result of the animal tissues, but the metals within those tissues. In an effort to prove this Volta
invented the battery . Volta s battery was built out of alternating zinc and copper disks with cloth
(or a similar medium) soaked in salt water [10]. Volta stated the following regarding the nature of
electricity with respect to Galvani s animal electricity: Herein lies the whole secret, the whole
magic of Galvanism. It is simply an artificial electricity, which acts under the impulse of contacts
between different conductors [9]. At this point Volta s theory of electricity by contact was fully
accepted. Just after Volta s greatest discovery and before that of Ohm, Hans Christian Г rstead
discovered magnetism. Г rstead conducted a series of experiments that

Comparing The Income Statements Accounts And Categories Essay
Profitability These ratios are comparing the income statements accounts and categories to
reflect and to present the company s ability of generating profit from their operations. They can
be used by investors and as well by creditors to judge the company returns on investment based
on its relative level of assets and resources. Operating profit margin This ratio reflects the ability
to distinguish products, ability to control their expenses, also the degree of competitiveness in
the actual economic market. The higher the ratio the better is for the company. It shows the
percentage of sales left over after all expenses are being paid by the business. CFT Ltd, after
calculating the ratio, shows us that from 2014, where we had a 8,15% operating profit margin,
they had an increase to 9,25% in 2015, telling us that the company is doing better. Returns on
capital employed (ROCE) This is another profitability ratio that help us to measure how a
company can generate profits from its capital employed by comparing net operating profit to
capital employed. Investors are looking at this ratio to reflect on how efficiently a company
uses its capital employed as well as its long term financing strategies. CTF s ROCE in 2014 was
16,46% while in 2015 they reported an ROCE that is 18,22% which suggest the company is
performing worst in 2015, in terms of profitability. This can be down to poor cost control or more

Why Was King Arthur Popular
The tale of a boy who pulled a magic sword out of a stone, became king and ruled Camelot for
many years is a tale that has been popular throughout the years. Thousands of books, films, poems,
and comics have all been inspired by this famous story about King Arthur. So the question is why
has this story been around so long? Why is King Arthurs story still popular today?
According to earlybritishkingdoms.com, King Arthur was a legendary British ruler who ruled
during the late 5th and early 6th century. When King Arthur s father died, no one knew he had a
son, so Britain wasn t sure who should be king. That led to Merlin the magician to making a

One reason is that it had all the elements of a good story drama, adventure, romance, conflict,
betrayal, and interesting characters with interesting backstories. It featured Merlin and his magical
powers, Guinevere and her beauty, and more. It featured a number of different knights that ended
up betraying each other like the brothers Balan and Balyn, who killed each other in war.
Something else that made his story so popular was the Round Table. King Arthur was the first
ruler to ever use that table. The Round Table was symbolic in Britain s history. In signified that
everyone was equal, because there was no head of the table. Without the Round Table, there wouldn
t be any stories about knights like Sir Galahad, Sir Lancelot, and Sir Tristram to make this legend
even more interesting.
History.co.uk stated that King Arthur and his legend are particularly popular during times of
social unrest due to its unfaltering moral stability. The way he came in was similar to that of a
superhero he came in the middle ages, when the world was corrupt and there was an imbalance
of power. Then, there was a glimmer of hope because of him. He made Britain truly believe that
he was the one , the one that could bring them out of this Dark Age. People believed that he had
all the features of a good leader. As mentioned in kingarthursknights.com, he had excellent skills as

Reflection Of The Bible
Throughout the bible, and reading it once more by Marcus Borg, a common idea as it relates to a
religious experience, is that the Bible is a human product. Throughout chapter two, Borg
continuously describes the Bible as being a product of humans. He explains on page 22 that he sees
scripture through the lens of the Biblebeing a human product, meaning that it is the product of two
ancient communities (22). He believed that what the Bible explains things to be are words from the
communities of ancient Israel and the early Christian movement. We cannot talk about God(or
anything else) except with the words, symbols, stories, concepts, and categories known to us, for
they are the only language we have , made me think about the idea that... Show more content on

Borg believes that if you do not believe that the bible is either totally a divine or totally a human
product, then it compounds the confusion (26).
He believes that if we consider the bible both a divine and human product then we would be
harder to separate the divine aspects from the human. I would have to agree with Borg s stance.
For example, he presented his stance by using the Ten Commandments. People who believed that
both the bible is a divine and human product would believe that it came from God in that they are
his laws, however, the Commandments are written from a male s perspective. Being that they are
written from a male perspective, it presents the idea that they are human made. But, I do not agree
with the questions Borg stated towards the end of the section of human products. Borg believes that
we should not ask What is God saying? but rather ask, What is the ancient author or community
saying (28)?
Borg explains a term, precritical naivete, as being an early childhood state in which we listen to
whatever a significant authority figure tells us is true and untrue. He uses the story of Jesus birth
and how he took the facts that he gathered from the narrative told during Christmas for granted.
Like Borg, I never thought to think about how much of the stories that were told to me during
childhood, as narratives versus factual information.
Borg also explains post critical

Flawed Performance Appraisals
The performance appraisals process is flawed in many ways. Lack of preparation, time, training,
and professionalism are a few examples of how the system is flawed. The individual completing
the application often has many tasks that supersedes taking the appropriate time necessary to
accurately keep notations of an employee s performance throughout the year. The lack of time
leads to an employee receiving a performance review on the most recent accounts of his or her
job performance instead of his or her performance throughout the entire year. Lack of
professionalism can also hurt the appraisal process. An employee should be rated by his or her job
duties instead of the personal opinion or feelings the manager or supervisor completing the form. All

The job description for each position is different and so should the evaluation process and

critical to the professional appraisal evaluation process. Each employee must be held to the same
accountability or the evaluation process becomes tainted by lack of consistency. Management
should always focus on the appraisal process as another of their job duties instead of over
thinking the task and rating an employee out of fear and retaliation or to prevent an employee
from receiving a raise or promotion. In addition, the for the appraisal process to be beneficial to
the company the outcome has to be to protect the company from liability or litigation from a

In the article, The Torture Myth, Anne Applebaum explores the controversial topic of torture
practices, focused primarily in The United States. The article was published on January 12, 2005,

Applebaum explores three equality titillating concepts within the article. Applebaum s questions the
actual effectiveness of using torture as a means of obtaining valuable information in urgent times.

I have been unable to deliberate on the appropriate alternative method for this particular dilemma.
When it comes to the topic of torture, the popular attitude is that it is sometimes required. Where
this agreement usually ends, however, is on the question of ethics and efficiency. Whereas some are
convinced that it is an effective policy, others maintain that it is not successful practice. To further
support the stance that the torture policy is not necessary effective, Army Col. Stuart Herrington
inserted, in his experience, nine out of ten people can be persuaded to talk with no stress methods at
all, let alone cruel and unusual ones. Applebaum s second argument for eliminating the torture
policy is that it constantly enables the enemy to build tolerance for the torture. Applebaum uses the
example of radical terrorists are nasty, so to defeat them we have to be nastier. This example clearly
illustrates the fault within the misconception that torture is ultimately effective. There can also be
unnoticed and lasting consequences to torture, that in turn, affect more than the individual country.

Essay On Broroca s Area Of The Brain
One important area of the brain that some would say is very important, would be Broca s area.
Broca s area is a functionally defined structure in the elft frontal lobe of most humans. It is involved
mainly in producing speech, writing, and also in language processing and comprehension. This part
of the brainwould be stimulated when a certain group of friends ask you to come over for pizza and
thoughout the night when the individuals are communicating. Without this portion of the brain
functioning as it should, one would not be able to communicate with others, the indivudal would

Reproducibility In Science Is As Important As Any New...
Reproducibility in science is as important as any new hypothesis or discovery. Currently, many
practitioners believe there is a reproducibility crisis. Despite that scientists conduct sound research,
reproducibility is still very low. In my opinion, irreproducible research should be well considered
as a part of enhanced knowledge since, in part, nature tends to be chaotic and hence irreproducible.
Better controls in the research process, however, can improve comprehension and utility of research

Journal Of The Plague Year Essay
This paper is a literary analysis of a select passage from page 151 of Daniel Defoe s, Journal of
the Plague Year. The focus of this passage is the narrator s feelings about the plague s
relationship with human nature. In this passage H.F. (Defoe) asserts that another plague year
would reconcile all destructive differences between people. Consequently, this passage does not
correspond with the expected perspective of a plague survivor. The original intent of Journal of
the Plague year was to be a realistic account of the plague from the prospective of H.F., a man
living in London during the great visitation of 1665. The intention of the book does not match the

This section of the passage also highlights the passages theme of the individual versus the
collective. Specifically, through the perspective of H.F., Defoe asserts that religious sects should
combine into one overarching religion. In that, the Anglican church should bind with dissenting
religions and therefore absorb more of their characteristics. Although H.F. has this opinion, he
believes that it is not feasible. He claims, he has, no mind to enter arguments (151), but again his
persuasive language contradicts this claim. Defoe continues to cover up his opinion, which further
illustrates how he is trying to hide how his personal perspective is influencing his writing.
In summary, the authors perspective as someone is not a survivor of the plague heavily
influenced the content of this passage. The passage s bias shows Defoe s insertion of his own
opinion. His detached perspective is evident through H.F. s emotional distance, use of persuasive
language, and attempts to conceal his own opinion. This passage contains the inappropriate bias of
the author, which deceives the reader who believes this is the opinion of a survivor of the plague of

When Scottie falls into his state of Vertigo, the camera seems to go berserk with different angles
and colors. Specifically near the end of the movie when Scottie falls in his dream, his Vertigo
seems to kick in on overdrive. The implementation of the creeping music, the flashes of colors, the
scared look, and the montage of expressions proves that Vertigo was a form of a thriller movie.
Does Vertigo fit into the genre of thriller? Yes. But does Vertigo fit the thriller genre before, now,
and in the future? That is the question that is going to be answered.
In the beginning of the movie, the audience is thrown into immediate action. At first you see a cop

audiences waits anxiously to see what is going on. Scottie all of a sudden falls and is holding on

The audience can feel his fear of heights. The feel of a thriller movie incapacitates that audience
at this point because they are wondering at the edge of their seats what is going to happen. As the
audience sees the point of view of Scottie looking down onto the ground, they can feel Scottie s

or team competes against another or others for entertainment, dance is just that, but others consider
it an art or even just a halftime show. Dance teams in high schools do not get funded as much as
other sports and they get very little to no recognition at school or even on big sports channels. Dance
meets the requirements to even be an Olympic sport. Dance should be considered a sport as much as
other athletics.
First of all, there is very little funding that goes into dance, considering it is a sport and needs to be
equal to the other athletics. At Madisonville North Hopkins High School the dance team starts out
the season with only the remaining money that the team raised the previous season, it is different
from other sports. For example, football was given $9,500 this year to start out the season. Another
major issue is that the dance team has to practice in the lobby, ... Show more content on

Have you ever heard dance talked about on the big sports channels announcing that a team won
the regionals competition, or that they are advancing to Nationals? No, because many do not
think about the competitive aspect of dance, they only think about the stereotypical ballerinas.
Usually the only accounts of dance that people witness is at halftime during a game. Dance does
not have a weekly event scheduled for it like soccer, basketball, or other high school or college
sports teams, which is another reason why many don t see it as a sport. The only events that dance
has is big competitions that usually happen on the weekends. In dance, you can compete against
large groups, duets, or even soloist. They also do not think about the time and hard work that is put
into the sport. Dance requires strength, endurance, and coordination. It takes a lot of practice to be
a strong dancer, just as it would in any other

Bitcoin Protocol Was Invented By Satoshi Nakamoto
Bitcoin is a cryptocurrency, a form of money that uses cryptography to control its creation and
management, rather than relying on central authorities . Bitcoin protocol was invented by Satoshi
Nakamoto who described it as a purely peer to peer version of electronic cash that would allow
online payments to be sent directly from one party to another without going through a financial
institution. The solution they gave for the double spending problem using peer to peer network was
that the timestamps transactions were hashed into an ongoing chain of hash based proof of work,
forming a record that cannot be changed without redoing the proof of work.
Bitcoin became the first decentralized cryptocurrency in 2009.This means that as opposed to
centralized electronic money/banking systems, the decentralized control uses the Bitcoin s block
chain transaction database in the role of a distributed ledger. By convention, the first transaction in
a block is a special transaction that starts a new coin owned by the creator of the block. This adds
an incentive for nodes to support the network, and provides a way to initially distribute coins into
circulation, since there is no central authority to issue them.
The Bitcoin technology is evolving ever since it was launched in 2008. People are just starting to
realize that Bitcoin isn t a currency and a payment system, it s the Internet of Money, David
Johnston, co founder of BitAngels, a group of investors in Bitcoin related startups,

Nt1310 Unit 3 Systems Paper
Hello, my name is Robert Parker, and I was sent over by the IT consultant firm you just hired to
give you a comparison and contrast of the three main OS systems you may choose to use within
your company. The three we have chosen are Microsoft, Linux and Mac OS. Mas OS has been
around the longest, and then Microsoft, these are the main two that most companies use today. Not
to say one is better than the other, for it is mainly up to what the company s mission is and what is
needed to accomplish that mission.

going to look at is Linux, it can be a hard system to use and understand, if you have not used it
before, you must have a good knowledge of computers in order to deal with Linux. Commands
have to be typed in on the command line, and most people do not know or understand command

is not a good support system for it.
One of the good thing about it is that it is free to use and distribute to your other computers.
Linux is not a fully operation system, and it needs additional software in order for it to work to
its full potential. There are so many different packages, that there will be one that will fit you

Summary Of Untitled By Gerald Dono
The painting of Untitled by Gerald Donato displayed in the Taubman Museum in Roanoke allures
attention by the chaotic combination of figural pieces and the collided whirlwind of vibrant
yellows, oranges, greens, and undertones of black. The background information shares that Gerald
Donato was a talented, beloved painter and teacher whose work anticipated references to
important art historical developments. Ideological forces, such as familiar cartoon imagery,
Steamboat Willie , and formally represented figures, are clearly influences in his work as his
interest of hidden subject matter is visually bursted on an oil canvas. He created a blended cartoon
like scene of abstraction and figuration by incorporating a mysterious feminine figureMoon face
and a recurring character Mr. Man to embody a message of escaping from the spiral cage that
represents the constraints in life. Mr. Donato borrowed images from past history and radically
transformed these elements through his own blend of abstraction and figures to send a message
about the conflict between society and individuals.
The artist depicts an initial confusing and weirded out thought for the viewer at first glance, but as
one deeply examines the art, the subject matter begins to become more clear. The vision being
shared in this non objective painting has a context of placing one in the standing of Mr. Man by
gaining height and freedom from the (white) bars that are rising on each level that represent
conflict which traps one in a cage of misery. The unbalanced symmetry of having the left side take
up more space with little action, and the right side being smaller with the action unraveling, makes
the viewer break down each composite perspective. For the left side, the mysterious female muse,
Moon Face, has an unproportional face that is almost blushing with shades of light pasty orange,
with the mouth wide open. The energetic mood is amplified by the tone of yellow that is
splashed in the mouth, representing a loss of words or at a state of disbelief. The female s lower
half is created with tints of red that enhances the curves on her body, as if chiaroscuro connects the
light and dark contrast to show outline of the breasts, stomach, and hips in

The Fashion Design Of Chanel
It has been over a century since Mademoiselle Chanel, determined to reform the concept of
femininity as much in style as in the essence, commissioned the chemist Ernest Beaux to develop
what will become the symbol of international perfumery. Chanel No. 5 is unquestionably the most
legendary ever made fragrance, described as an opera of olfactory art. Independent, unconventional,
and provocative, CocoChaneltransformed her unfamiliar name into an obligatory reference point
for fashion design of the twentieth. As an icon of female strength, she translates the complexity and
elegance that characterize the woman, with the creation of what would become the scent par
excellence. Her way of conceiving the perfumeis peculiar. When asked where to put the perfume
she replies: A woman should wear a fragrance wherever she expects to be kissed ( A Woman ). Coco
also launches what turned out, according to the instructions of the designer, had to embody a
concept of femininity timeless, unique, and fascinating. The avant garde idea of Chanel breaks
every scheme imagining her fragrance for a modern and independent woman, far from the
stereotype that envisages she should perfume of roses. Hence, Chanel No. 5 is the first perfume that
rejects the convention and symbolizes the technological and cultural innovation, furthering the
women s empowerment.
Chanel No. 5 is a concentration of absolute femininity that shook the world of fragrances forever
with an abstract composition of 80

Children s Development And Their Learning
There are various areas within the teaching role that are important in order to aid children through
their development. There are three key principles; Planning, Teaching and Assessment (Education
Scotland, 2011).
Throughout this essay I will focus on how these principles affiliate children s development and their
learning. Two English Lessons completed during the introductory placement will underpin this
evaluation.
Planning
At the core of any planning lies the National Curriculum. Before Planning can even begin a teacher
must know what the children need to learn. When the teacher gave me my topic s I went straight
to the National Curriculum. It is also important in order to plan for progression to know what they
have previously covered so I arranged a meeting with the class teacher. Once all this information
had been established I collated my planning.
Denby, (2012) claims starting a lesson with what children already know lends itself to the
importance of planning. He believes lessons must be planned to accommodate progression. It is
important that teachers feel confident about what their pupils know or can do. Once this has been
determined their next challenge is to plan lessons that allow children to collectively move forward.
There are three key areas of planning that are covered within schools, Long term planning, Mid
term planning and Short term planning (Lesson planning).
The school initially sets out an overall curriculum framework that fits in the schools aims,

ABSTRACT The recent study of metal matrix composite mainly deals with the aluminum based
composites with the reinforcement of particulates of silicon carbide and aluminum based
composites with the reinforcement of particulates of graphite which will be function as solid
lubricant. In this paper, two sets of composites has been prepared. One composite consists of
Aluminium with graphite and silicon carbide particles and the other composite consists of
Aluminium with alumina and Graphite. The composited has been prepared by stir casting method
and both the samples tested for the mechanical properties. The mechanical properties were
compared for both the composites and validated. The microstructure of the both composites were
examined using Scanning Electron microscope (SEM).
INTRODUCTION
The latest development of advanced materials focuses on the light weight with less cost products to
meet the required function with the required increase in demand. To achieve this, Metal Matrix
Composites (MMC) are mostly preferable since having excellent mechanical and wear resistance
properties. In this project, Particulate reinforced hybrid composites are used because of lesser cost

How Did Marston Build The Water Tower
In 1895, they made a decision to build the water tower since there was a shortage of water and it
forced the classes to be cancelled. Anson Marston, the engineer who designed the First Water
Tower was head of Civil Engineering at ISU. The water tower was the first elevated steel water
tower west of the Mississippi. It stood 168 feet above campus. It was more than 30 feet tall and
20 feet in diameter and held 160,000 gallons. The use of the water tower was discontinued in
1978, and the university switched to the Ames city water system. It was placed on the National
Register of Historic Places in 1981 and after seven years, it was restored. The American Water
Works Association presented an award to ISU in 2007, when the water tower was named Marston

Why Is Resilience Important
Dear, Parents In this unit I have learnt about the importance of Resilience. I believe the most
important aspects of resiliency are appreciation, optimism, and coping with stress. To be
resilient is to bounce back in the face of adversity, depression, tragedy, and other sources of
stress. It s a cycle that many people get stuck in until they pick themselves back up. You
experience, you feel, you fail, you hurt, and you fall. But, you keep on going anyways. Mandy
Oaklander conveys that humans tend to stress over everything. Even if it s a waitress messing
up your order, or getting a C on a project (Guilty), and the list goes on and on. I often deal with
stress at least once every month and I don t even realize it . This is where Mandy... Show more

I see many people appreciating others, but how come most of us can t appreciate ourselves? It s
because we believe we don t deserve it. we would rather appreciate other who deserve it and not

appreciate ourselves? Sometimes, we believe that the universe has shaped our reality and who
we really are, but I believe it s just all in our heads. Shawn Anchor conveys that, We re finding it s
not necessarily the reality that shapes us, but the lens through which your brain views the world
that shapes your reality. And if we can change the lens, not only can we change your happiness,
we can change . And from reading this text we find that It s not the way that the world makes us,

I find the world unfair and totally unpredictable. I find it hard to find my life going well when it

Aggregate Supply Curve
AGGREGATE DEMAND, AGGREGATE SUPPLY, FISCAL
AND MONETARYPOLICY
Q No 1. Explain why the Aggregate Supply curve is upward sloping in the short run and vertical in
the long run?
Aggregate supply is the total supply of goods and services produced by any firm in a country for
economic plan and sell these goods and services during a year. These goods and services are
willing to sell at a given price by firms.
Short Run Aggregate Supply Curve
In short run, the aggregate supply curve will go upward because there are two main reasons due to
which quantity supplied increases with the increase in price.
Firstly, the curve is used for nominal variable like wage rate and in short run, the nominal wage rate
is fixed which resulted in higher profits that give expansion in the output. ... Show more content on

When demand is at low level, large number of production does not use their fixed capital equipment
then the result will be increase in production without diminishing returns. So average price level
does not increase but production increases. When demand is increased, the prices will increase
which results in a steep curve.
Long Run in Aggregate Supply Curve
In long run, aggregate supply is affected from capital, labor and technology because everything is
assumed to be used optimally at this point. In long run, aggregate supply curve is perfectly vertical
which economists belief that changes in aggregate demand is the only reason of temporary change
in total output. In long run, only one quantity will be supplied and wage rate varies with economic

Japanese And Japanese Internment Camps Essay
Japanese Americans were forced to evacuate from coastal areas following the Japanese attack on
Pearl Harbor. A massive amount of Americans who were not of Japanese descent believed that the
Japanese community could not be trusted, so the government felt that it was necessary to remove
them from their homes and place them in camps located away from militarized coastal regions. This
was a controversial decision at the time and still receives criticism today for going against typical
American constitutional values centering around citizen s unalienable rights. Through the research
of many letters written during Japanese internment or reflecting on the event, it seems that Japanese
Americans of that time period had mixed feelings about being relocated and the majority of the
community was upset that they were viewed and treated differently than other Americans but did
acknowledge that the overall treatment they received at camp was fair. Japanese Internment camps
were psychologically damaging to Japanese Americans due to the racist nature of selective forced
evacuation, and the Japanese community was more upset about being removed from their homes
than how they were treated at camp. The U.S. government was very purposeful in their goal to
make the process of internment seem to be as fair as possible to the Japanese Americans that were
being relocated. Thomas C. Clark, alien control coordinator at the time, was quoted saying we are

The Last Night Of The World Chapter Summary
What if the end of the world was tonight? Many people often worry about their last day of life on
Earth; if it were to ever end. This fear tends to make people think about what they could do to
make the best of their remaining time. This situation is shown in the short story The Last Night
of the World by Ray Bradbury. In this story, there are two unnamed characters who talk about
what they are thinking and feeling on their last day. These two characters connect with each other
at a higher level, dealing with the last day of their existence together. The theme of this short story
is to live life to the fullest while you can. If people live this way, then the end is less scary, and the
journey there is more enjoyable. This theme is portrayed through the characters words, describing
how they feel about the situation. The first way the theme emerges is in the girl s words. The girl is

The Big Short Movie Essay
The Big Short is a movie that discusses the housing market crash in 2008. As you may know, the
banks, the mortgage brokers, and the consumers were all affected by this collapse. On each level of
the system, there were things that went wrong and that could have been changed that could have
prevented the failure of the housing market. Before the 1970s the banking was not a business that
you went into to make money. That was until Louis Ranieri came around. Louis Ranieri had one
idea that changed the housing market forever. His plan was to have a mortgageback security. A
mortgage back security is an assist based security backed by a mortgage. For example, if you use
your mortgage to start a business, your business is backed by that mortgage. The average
mortgage loan has a fixed rate loan and takes thirty years to pay off, but then he thought to bundle
them all together. They thought these would still be less risky because who would not pay their
mortgage. They were doing hundreds of million dollars in mortgage bonds a year, but that all
changed when they ran out of mortgages to put into the bonds. If there were no bonds then there
was nothing left to make money, and the banking world was going to back to the way it was.
Rather than letting that happen, the banks made a loan called a subprime loan.
Subprime loans were not like the fixed rate loans at all. Subprime loans have interest rates that raise
quickly, where fixed rate loans stay the same. In the movie, when

The structure of a novel enables it to embody, integrate and communicate its content by revealing
its role in the creation and perception of it. A complex structure such as that of Robert Drewe s

complex entity1. Drewe s novel is a multi faceted epic lovestory presenting a fable of European
ambitions in an alien landscape, and a magnificently sustained metaphor of water as the life and
death force2. The main concerns of the novel include concerns about love, life, death and human

In many instances he also has no strong sense of her self 5, and thus Will is quite literally
presented as Drowning in their relationship. Thus the concern of love and the often unequal
power struggle between the two participants are raised. The title here signifies the destructive
nature of love. The title is also associated with death, presented through the deaths by drowning
such as Hammond Lloyd, Kate and the allusion to Ophelia, which were primarily as a result of
love, showing the inter twining of the destructive nature of love and drowning (death). Again
the title is multi faceted exploring the life giving and taking qualities of water as the harbinger
of death as well as the idealising and fear of it. Kate s eulogy clearly explains this as drowning is
idealised for it transported our beloved peablossom, our gossamer darling to heaven and feared as
it pull d the poor wretch from her melodious lay/ To muddy death . Throughout the novel there is
an absence of the word suicide, and death, instead it is drowning, signifying human frailty and
death as a universal fear.
Much like the title, the prologues explore similar concerns although it is by presenting two
contrasting scenes. Despite this the title continues within the prologue

Democrats Vs Conservatives
Political ideologies in the United States vary considerably, people often classify themselves as
either adhering to positions along the political spectrum as liberals, progressive, moderate or
conservative. In the world of politics we generally decide that the Democratic Party represents the
liberal ideas, while the Republican Party commonly represents the conservatives. From the
understanding of this course we define the term American conservative as a political philosophy
that emphasizes prosperity, security and tradition above other values. Whereas liberals are also a
political partythat emphasizes individualism, equality and civil rights above other values. In
simpler terms stress economic rights, whereas liberals emphasizes civil rights.

Efficient Market Hypothesis And The Effect Of High...
Efficient Market Hypothesis and the Effect of High Frequency Trading The efficient market
hypothesis (EMH) has consistently remained in the forefront of finance theory for decades. As
technology has advanced, the ability to assess the efficient market hypothesis has increased
exponentially and so have the opportunities to exploit it. Tactics such as high frequency trading
and insider trading threaten the dependability of the efficient market hypothesis. EMH is a
rudimentary theory that implies the value of an asset is directly correlated or about equal to the
intrinsic value of the asset. (Brigham Houston, 2012) The intrinsic value of a stock is the actual
value of a company or an asset based on an underlying perception of its true value including all
aspects of the business, in terms of both tangible and intangible factors (investopedia.com).
Investors use this logic to determine whether to buy or sell a stock depending on its perceived value
with respect to the intrinsic value. Whether the investor employs an active or passive investment
strategy, the EMH is a rational decision making process to ensure a confident investment. The
efficient market hypothesis is constantly being analyzed for its validity in the current market. There
are a multitude of external factors contributing to the reluctance of relying on the EMH.
Specifically, the rise of high frequency trading has significantly called into question the legitimacy
of the efficient market. High

The Historical Period of Enlightenment
Enlightenment The historical period which is known as the Enlightenment occurred during the
latter half of the 17th century and the first half of the 18th century. The period was marked by a
decided increase placed on the importance of scientific and philosophical investigation. Political
philosophy was one of the most frequent and important branches of theorizing and discourse. One
of the most famous political theoreticians was a man named John Locke. His theories would
revolutionize the way that people thought about their governments and what right they had, if any,
in questioning their government. Later, the rebellion between the colonies and Great Britain and
then the subsequent founding of the United States of America would be based upon the writings of
Locke, particularly his theories of toleration, the concept of republic, and his social contract theory.
In his book Letters Concerning Toleration, John Locke wrote in response to the frequent holy wars
on English history. English history and their colonies were based upon Christian tenets, and the
governments and armies of the English throne were acting based upon their religious principles.
Because of that cause, many people died. It would logically then reason that if there were more
toleration of religious differences, there would be far fewer occasions of bloodshed because of
religious viewpoint (McGrath 1998, page 214). This would become the basis then for the First
Amendment of the United States Constitution

Non-Christian World View Definition
In today s society, young people are constantly being exposed to worldly influences through
children s media, including television, websites, video games, and movies. Topics such as gay
marriage, evolution, and abortion are presented to kids as facts or the cultural norm. Children are
naГЇve and young, and their hearts should be guarded from these secular ideas. The Biblical view
of the family is slowly being diminished, evolution is being taught as scientific fact, and many
children s media celebrities are openly showing support for their non Christian beliefs. Secularist,
atheist, and humanistic values are subtly, and sometimes even blatantly, making their way more
and more into children s media. The goal is to come into the home and... Show more content on

First of all, the idea of evolution completely refutes the creation story in Genesis. As to the
concepts of homosexuality and unmarried couples living together, the Bible clearly describes
how both of these are sinful. In Leviticus 20:13, to be gay or lesbian was considered an
abomination. In Hebrews 13:4, it is asserted that marriage is something that should be honored,
and God will judge the sexually immoral. Rowan Blanchard s arguments for abortion, gay rights,
and Planned Parenthood although they sound convincing on social media are very much opposed
to Christian beliefs. Abortion is taking the life of an innocent child who was specially formed by
God. In Jeremiah 1:5, it says Before I formed you in the womb I knew

Effectiveness Of The Reduction Recidivism Rates
Effectiveness
Effectiveness is the reduction in recidivism rates; more specifically, the reduction in the
likelihood to be arrested for a new crime, or for committing a parole violation. Unlike research on
the implementation of DRC s, there is not a need for a more in depth look at the benefits of
overcorwding jails and increasing incarceration costs. Costs, as mentioned earlier, are significantly
more than the costs associated with the implementation of a DRC. In addition, the steady increase
in occupants of the RHRJ has lead to contracting out of beds at other jail facilities due to the lack of
space and reduction in offenders. A continuation of the status quo, housing offenders in the RHRJ
until an additional facility with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, in addition to the trained personnel, the building infrastructure must also be included
in the feasibility of administrative capcity. Unlike the staffing for the DRC, the staffing required
for the continuation of housing offenders in the RHRJ until an additional facility is built, is
heavily reliant on the number of offenders in jail at a given time. As seen in figure 1 in the
appendix, there are several staffing needs to be met. Given the projected growth in the jail
population, the number of personnel required to provide services and programs is not adequate; it
is especially not supportive of future expansion of programs and services for the community
(Moseley Architects, 2014).
Cost
Several cost components factor into the traditional incarceration model. The figure that is
commonly discussed within the correctional system is the per day incarceration cost. It represents
the amount of funding necessary to house one inmate for one day at the RHRJ facility. According
to Captain Shortell, the per day incarceration cost for 2013 was $73.35, and there was a slight
reduction for 2014 down to $72.33. These figures will be used in subsequent calculations to
compare costs of the Day Reporting Center to the traditional incarceration option. With an average
per day incarceration occupancy of 350 beds, the yearly figure for housing the inmates equals a
staggering $9.24 million.
As the Mosely study identified, the RHRJ often was operating at well over 150%

Communication And Verbal And Non Verbal Communication Essay
Communication, as described in businessdictinary.com, is a two way process in reaching mutual
understanding, in which participants not only exchange information, news, ideas and feelings but
also create and share meaning. It is a means of connection between people or places. Without
communication there would be no understanding between people and important information and
messages would not be correctly conveyed. This is why communicationplays an important role in
our daily lives and when not done or when done incorrectly it may cause many undesired issues.
There are two forms of communication: non verbal communication and verbal communication.
Verbal and non verbal communication:
Verbal communication is the use of language and sounds to convey a message clearly. There are
two types of verbal communication: written and oral. Written communication is the use of pens
and paper, emails, texting and any other form of contact using language and not speech. Oral
communication is the use of speech either face to face or via the phone or any form of
communication where spoken words are being used to convey a message. Non verbal
communication is the process of conveying a message without the use of speech or sound. There
are nine features of non verbal communication, I will speak about three: eye contact, facial
expressions and posture. Eye contact, also referred to as gaze, plays a role in showing the speaker
that you re listening and that you re willing to interact with them.

Obama s Plan And How It Would Evolve Over The Next Five...
Looking into Clinton s plan and how it would evolve over the next five years, the themes of access
and affordability shine through. She believes that all students should be able to obtain a public post
secondary education (Clinton on the Issues: College, 2016). The current truth is that access and
success in higher educationcontinue to be stratified according to income... (Eckel King, 2004). With
Clinton s plan access would increase, and with that enrollment would increase. Increased enrollment
at collegecampuses strikes as an initially positive thought; more students can gain and educationand
contribute that education to bettering society. However, increase enrollment could lead to increase
selectivity, if enrollment increased in extreme enough amounts. State schools, that were founded to
offer quality education would now have a larger pool of student to pick from. For the state school s
fortunate enough to the capacity to educate more student s their success would continue to increase.
But what about the state schools that are already struggling with enrollment issues? Will they
continue to live out their mission and increase enrollment at the expense of the student s education
quality. For campuses that are already filled with students, larger incoming classes would lead to
less enrollment options, larger classroom sizes, and the same campus resources spread thinner
across a larger student body. Schools in this category would be forced to decide between decreasing

Prodigal Son Vs Jesus
Annette Simmons once said, If you wish to influence and individual or a group to embrace a
particular value in their daily lives, tell them a compelling story. The book Great Expectations by
Charles Dickens and the biblical Parable of the Prodigal Son hold some similarities. They do,
however, hold distinct differences. The differences between Great Expectationsand the Parable of
the Prodigal Son can be traced back to the purpose of the authors. The differences are evident
though the authors purpose, the plot, and the main characters in both works. The main reason that
Great Expectations and the Parable of the Prodigal Son are so different, is the intent of the original
authors. Dickens wrote Great Expectations as a social commentary.... Show more content on

In the beginning of Great Expectations seven year old Pip meets an escaped convict in the
graveyard one night. The convict is recaptured, but it remains something Pip dwells on for the
rest of his life. Several years later an elderly woman named Miss Havisham and her adopted
daughter Estella invite Pip to visit. Estella berates Pip for being common. Following this
encounter, Pip is unhappy with his life until he is told some unnamed benefactor has given Pip
a fortune. Pip is whisked away to London where he wastes his money and finds himself in debt.
In the parable, the story begins with the son receiving his inheritance from his father. The son
then leaves home for a distant country. In this foreign country, he squandered his inheritance on
a life of dissipation (Luke 15:13). Pip lives in London for several years until he discovers his
benefactor is the convict he met in the graveyard. Pip tries to helps the convict, Magwitch,
escape from the police, but Magwitch is captured. As a result, Pip looses his fortune. In the
parable the son simply runs out of money just as a famine strikes the land. He tries to make a
living taking care of the swine. In the book Pip returns home briefly to make amends with Joe
and Joe s wife Biddy, then returns to London to make an honest living with his friend Herbert.
The son in the parable decides to return home in hopes that his father will hire him as a worker.
His father instead greets him with open arms and declares this son of mine was dead, and has
come to life again; he was lost, and has been found (Luke 15:24). Pip in Great Expectations and
the son in the Parable of the Prodigal Son may appear to be similar, but they are still different. Pip
begins the story with low self esteem due to his harsh

Pokemon Contemporary Art
Contemporary Art: The 20 years of Pokemon
Video games created an innovative new electronic art form since the early years of the 1950 s.
Video gaming has even made an impressive mark in world history in the early 1970 s to the 1980
s with arcades and a generation of home consoles. With almost 40 years of gaming, within half of
those years, a Japanese gaming series known as Pokemon has made an global impact rather than
just Japanese culture. Everyone, even those who aren t so much into the game, can call out a
Pikachu; the cute as well as interesting creatures we can capture in the game has stolen the hearts
of many. Today, a decade or so since 1990, generations have experienced the Pokemon fever; fans
can even recall the 1990 s anime lyrics ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Composed by Junichi Masuda, the music and the Pokemon cries are made from a program
called Sound Driver which he developed late in 1990 s. This program gives Pokemon it s
original nostalgic 8 bit to now 16 bit sound that imitates various genre of music. Pokemon music
really captures the setting and mood of the journey you take as tones vary from fast and tense in
battles to relaxed and gentle when traveling. Each new location, whether it s a city or just a
normal route, a different song is played to fit the given tone of your newly discovered settings.
The most compelling evidence of this is in Pokemon Red/Blue where as you enter Lavender
Town (a town where the graves of dead Pokemon lies) the music becomes eerie and disturbing.
This actually caused a lot of controversy in the media in Japan with rumors of children committing
suicide after hearing the song; this gave a more sinister feel everyone relates to. Pokemon has
created it s own world as the music and the composition of the visuals cooperate together, pulling in
fans from all over the world; from different

  • 2. Abbey, Cowboys And Indians Part II, Abbey Throughout the entirety of this memoir Abbey utilizes pieces of writing from a multitude of genres to emphasize his argument. He effectively integrates quotes from poetry and drama into his writing to make his memoir more operative. There are many examples of where Abbey quotes other literary works and through this essay I will be focusing one specific example. In the chapter Cowboys and Indians Part II, Abbey refers to William Blake s Evening Star. Thou fair hair d angel of the evening, Now, while the sun rests on the mountains light, Thy bright torch of love; Thy radiant crown Put on, and smile upon our evening bed! Smile on our loves... This poem was part of Blake s first published work Poetical Sketches. The poems protest against war,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Desert Solitaire is not a memoir that satisfies the literary taste of the general audience. It is in fact, at times, a difficult novel to take in, due to the large number of contradictions and the unconventional themes portrayed in the memoir. By adding works from different genres, he is able to bring in different aspects that will appeal to a larger audience. Though he only uses small sections of the different works, it allows a larger audience to comprehend the ideas that Abbey so desperately desires to portray. In conclusion, Abbey has found a way to use the works of others to support his views. He could ve just stated his ideas, but he takes the extra step to use the work of other authors. Why? Personally I believe that the use of other literary works not only strengthens his argument but also shows Abbey s literary skill. He is able to integrate seemingly unrelated ideas into evidence for his claims. The use of the different genres allows for connections between different pieces of works and allows the reader to think more deeply about to the memoir. Bibliography Abbey, Edward. The Philippines is located directly above Indonesia and is below Taiwan. It is home to over one hundred and five million people. The Philippines is actually considered an archipelago, and is the second largest one in the world. The landscape is beautiful that is made up of many islands, different landmarks and history. The capital of the Philippines is Manila, which has the highest populated density in the world. The Philippines is a very diverse island because when it was being established the people that came there were mostly immigrants and migrated there from other lands. They were mainly descents of Chinese, but they also have descents of Spanish and American. They had very little contact with surrounding countries. Since, the population was made up of immigrants the Philippines was passed around by different rulers. At one point, the Philippines was ruled by the Spanish and that s why most Filipinos have Spanish names because they required them to. The Philippines gets its name from the King of Spain, Philip II, who was one of the rulers of the Philippines. Overall, Spain had a lot of influence over the history of the Philippines.... • 4. Dunstan Ramsay Fifth Business Quotes Dunstan Ramsay is Fifth Business The novel Fifth Business by Robertson Davies is a fictional autobiography of the narrator, Dunstan Ramsay. Dunstan outlines his life experiences and pays special attention to saints and religion, both of which interest him. Although the story is about Dunstan, he seems to have a supporting role in the lives of others. In this book, Dunstan Ramsay is referred to as: Fifth Business because he is the one who knows the secret of the hero s birth, or comes to the assistance of the heroine when she thinks all is lost, or keeps the hermitess in her cell, or may even be the cause of somebody s death if that is part of the plot. (Davies, 227) The Fifth Business is an important character in a story because they aid in completing a story. Dunstan Ramsay is successfully portrayed as Fifth Business through accepting his role as the odd man out while facilitating events in the lives of others (227). ... • 5. Comparing Abercrombie And Fitch, Forever 21, American... Social Marketing Of the hundreds of named brand clothing that form part of the retail and fashion industry I chose to compare, for my analysis, Abercrombie Fitch, Forever 21, American Eagle, and H M. These stores are prominent, well known for selling apparel, shoes, and accessories by the means of offering sales and promotions to their customers. This is a clever strategy for attracting customers, allowing them to believe that they bought goods at affordable, convenient prices and not to mention the prestigious name prescribed to the clothing brands. Using keyhole.co as my main source, I obtained relevant and valuable information regarding the status of these brands. My intentions were to compare a period of 14 days, however, due to the limited access that I received from my free trial, the program only allowed me to see fewer of the dates than I anticipated. I want to take this opportunity and mention ahead of time that due to the various and distinctive products that are sold from these stores, when looking for the spending capacity I decided to focus on shirts / jeans for men and women and compare the prices among them since each of these retailers carry those items and as a way to make this report easier to contrast and comprehend. Also, when approaching the section of setting , I screen shotted some of the images on Instagram and made them into a collage to separate the type of clothes and trends that each of these brands sell currently. • 7. Analysis Of Ernest Hemingway s Hills Like White Elephants Discussing the Elephant in the Room The topic of Hills Like White Elephants by Ernest Hemingway continues to be a hot button issue, even 90 years after the story s publication. Though not as scandalous as it must have been in 1927, it remains the subject of great debate. Two lovers are awaiting a train that will whisk them away to Madrid for the purpose of an abortion. Even though the decision was made before arriving at the station, they continue to debate whether she will go through with it. The American s persuasive dialogue makes it apparent that he wants Jig to have the abortion and is concerned that she will change her mind, however she is more concerned with the fate of her relationship with the man and the effects an abortion may have on her. The first indication of a division between the lovers is the description of the setting where Hemingway writes ...the station was between two lines of rails in the sun (2 3), the rail lines representing the two people and the station the division between them. Upon arriving, they immediately orders two beers. The lovers order several alcoholic drinks during their short 40 minute wait at the station, presumably to ease the tension and calm the anxiety. Once the couple is settled with their drinks, Jig makes an observation about their view of the hills, saying They look like white elephants, (9) to which the American responds I ve never seen one, (10). • 8. The Flu is an Imminent Pandemic Essay Flu: The Imminent Pandemic Influenza is an everyday disease that affects thousands worldwide. Despite its reputation as a mundane sickness, the flu (especially the avian flu) is widely touted by experts as the propagator of the next deadly pandemic. The secret to this virus lethality is its antigenic shifting, leading to increased virulence and transmission factors. If one strain of a super flu begins circulating, millions of lives and billions of dollars will be lost. Only by preparing a national and worldwide response to this threat will we be able to combat this imminent pandemic. Deadlier than the Black Death, more lethal than nuclear warfare this is the modus operandi of the pathogenic virus alphainfluenzavirus ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Yet the flu is still a threat to humans, even in countries with access to excellent medical care. Why? Although yearly vaccines prevent many people from succumbing the disease, the flu virus can go through what is called an antigenic shift one strain of the flu can jump between two different species, go through an intermediate host to another species, or genetically mix when two strains meet in the same cell (CNN 2). To give one example, let s say a common human strain (H3N2) finds a human cell and uses its hemagglutinin proteins to infiltrate it. Another strain that infects birds, such as H5N1, enters the same cell. These two sets of genetic material mix to yield a new strain, which may inherit the transmission and severity factors from both parent strains to produce a new virulent virus in humans (CNN 3). This is how zoonotic strains of pathogens enter the human pool of diseases. If we see this happen with a strain of avian flu, the consequences will be overwhelming. The impact of seasonal influenza is already severely underestimated, killing between a quarter to a half a million people each year and costing billions of dollars in productivity (Wilschut 17). With one strain of the super flu, we could be facing a worldwide catastrophe. A typical pandemic occurs in multi year waves, beginning with a mutation in the original virus and spreading into subsequent milder cycles of disease, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Major Discoveries in Electrical Communication in the 1800’s The nineteenth century was a very prolific era of discovery in electrical knowledge and technologies that laid the foundation for modern electrical communication. During this period of time the foundations of modern electrically based technologies were discovered. The nineteenth century began with a debate between Luigi Galvani, and Alessandro Volta regarding the source of electricityin Galvani s famous frog experiment. These debates lead to the invention of the battery by Volta, and the invention of Volta s. Volta s discoveries would lead the way for Ohm s law several years later. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Galvani noticed that when a metal scalpel was brought close one of the nerves in the frog that the frog s leg would move. Galvani stated that the electricity observed in the frogs was intrinsic the nerves of the frog. Galvani used multiple different metals combinations to demonstrate the electric phenomenon. He would further demonstrate that metals were seemingly unneeded. He did this by manipulating the nerves and muscles of the frogs in such way that caused the same twitch, as when a metal object was brought near. The publication of his research in 1791 would peak the interest of Alessandro Volta. Volta was convinced that Galvani s animal electricity was not the result of the animal tissues, but the metals within those tissues. In an effort to prove this Volta invented the battery . Volta s battery was built out of alternating zinc and copper disks with cloth (or a similar medium) soaked in salt water [10]. Volta stated the following regarding the nature of electricity with respect to Galvani s animal electricity: Herein lies the whole secret, the whole magic of Galvanism. It is simply an artificial electricity, which acts under the impulse of contacts between different conductors [9]. At this point Volta s theory of electricity by contact was fully accepted. Just after Volta s greatest discovery and before that of Ohm, Hans Christian Г rstead discovered magnetism. Г rstead conducted a series of experiments that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Comparing The Income Statements Accounts And Categories Essay Profitability These ratios are comparing the income statements accounts and categories to reflect and to present the company s ability of generating profit from their operations. They can be used by investors and as well by creditors to judge the company returns on investment based on its relative level of assets and resources. Operating profit margin This ratio reflects the ability to distinguish products, ability to control their expenses, also the degree of competitiveness in the actual economic market. The higher the ratio the better is for the company. It shows the percentage of sales left over after all expenses are being paid by the business. CFT Ltd, after calculating the ratio, shows us that from 2014, where we had a 8,15% operating profit margin, they had an increase to 9,25% in 2015, telling us that the company is doing better. Returns on capital employed (ROCE) This is another profitability ratio that help us to measure how a company can generate profits from its capital employed by comparing net operating profit to capital employed. Investors are looking at this ratio to reflect on how efficiently a company uses its capital employed as well as its long term financing strategies. Thousands of books, films, poems, and comics have all been inspired by this famous story about King Arthur. So the question is why has this story been around so long? • 12. Reflection Of The Bible Throughout the bible, and reading it once more by Marcus Borg, a common idea as it relates to a religious experience, is that the Bible is a human product. Throughout chapter two, Borg continuously describes the Bible as being a product of humans. He explains on page 22 that he sees scripture through the lens of the Biblebeing a human product, meaning that it is the product of two ancient communities (22). He believed that what the Bible explains things to be are words from the communities of ancient Israel and the early Christian movement. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Borg believes that if you do not believe that the bible is either totally a divine or totally a human product, then it compounds the confusion (26). He believes that if we consider the bible both a divine and human product then we would be harder to separate the divine aspects from the human. I would have to agree with Borg s stance. For example, he presented his stance by using the Ten Commandments. People who believed that both the bible is a divine and human product would believe that it came from God in that they are his laws, however, the Commandments are written from a male s perspective. Being that they are written from a male perspective, it presents the idea that they are human made. But, I do not agree with the questions Borg stated towards the end of the section of human products. Borg believes that we should not ask What is God saying? but rather ask, What is the ancient author or community saying (28)? Borg explains a term, precritical naivete, as being an early childhood state in which we listen to whatever a significant authority figure tells us is true and untrue. He uses the story of Jesus birth and how he took the facts that he gathered from the narrative told during Christmas for granted. Like Borg, I never thought to think about how much of the stories that were told to me during childhood, as narratives versus factual information. Borg also explains post critical ... Lack of preparation, time, training, and professionalism are a few examples of how the system is flawed. The individual completing the application often has many tasks that supersedes taking the appropriate time necessary to accurately keep notations of an employee s performance throughout the year. The lack of time leads to an employee receiving a performance review on the most recent accounts of his or her job performance instead of his or her performance throughout the entire year. Management should always focus on the appraisal process as another of their job duties instead of over thinking the task and rating an employee out of fear and retaliation or to prevent an employee from receiving a raise or promotion. In addition, the for the appraisal process to be beneficial to the company the outcome has to be to protect the company from liability or litigation from a disgruntled employee and to boost the companies overall productivity ratings. The article was published on January 12, 2005, inspired by the dramatic increase of tensions between terrorist organizations and The United States. Applebaum explores three equality titillating concepts within the article. Applebaum s questions the actual effectiveness of using torture as a means of obtaining valuable information in urgent times. I have been unable to deliberate on the appropriate alternative method for this particular dilemma. When it comes to the topic of torture, the popular attitude is that it is sometimes required. Where this agreement usually ends, however, is on the question of ethics and efficiency. Whereas some are convinced that it is an effective policy, others maintain that it is not successful practice. To further support the stance that the torture policy is not necessary effective, Army Col. Stuart Herrington inserted, in his experience, nine out of ten people can be persuaded to talk with no stress methods at all, let alone cruel and unusual ones. Applebaum s second argument for eliminating the torture policy is that it constantly enables the enemy to build tolerance for the torture. Applebaum uses the example of radical terrorists are nasty, so to defeat them we have to be nastier. This example clearly illustrates the fault within the misconception that torture is ultimately effective. This report first shows a deeper understanding of the event and its outcomes. Then, it looks at what effect it had on Aboriginal communities. • 18. Journal Of The Plague Year Essay This paper is a literary analysis of a select passage from page 151 of Daniel Defoe s, Journal of the Plague Year. The focus of this passage is the narrator s feelings about the plague s relationship with human nature. In this passage H.F. (Defoe) asserts that another plague year would reconcile all destructive differences between people. Consequently, this passage does not correspond with the expected perspective of a plague survivor. The original intent of Journal of the Plague year was to be a realistic account of the plague from the prospective of H.F., a man living in London during the great visitation of 1665. The intention of the book does not match the content of the passage from page 151 because in this passage Daniel Defoerepeatedly... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This section of the passage also highlights the passages theme of the individual versus the collective. Specifically, through the perspective of H.F., Defoe asserts that religious sects should combine into one overarching religion. In that, the Anglican church should bind with dissenting religions and therefore absorb more of their characteristics. Although H.F. has this opinion, he believes that it is not feasible. He claims, he has, no mind to enter arguments (151), but again his persuasive language contradicts this claim. Defoe continues to cover up his opinion, which further illustrates how he is trying to hide how his personal perspective is influencing his writing. In summary, the authors perspective as someone is not a survivor of the plague heavily influenced the content of this passage. The passage s bias shows Defoe s insertion of his own opinion. His detached perspective is evident through H.F. s emotional distance, use of persuasive language, and attempts to conceal his own opinion. In the beginning of the movie, the audience is thrown into immediate action. At first you see a cop chase a man and Scottie, the detective, following. The music increases the suspense as the audiences waits anxiously to see what is going on. Scottie all of a sudden falls and is holding on to dear life at the end of the roof. A sport is an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment, dance is just that, but others consider it an art or even just a halftime show. Dance teams in high schools do not get funded as much as other sports and they get very little to no recognition at school or even on big sports channels. Bitcoin Protocol Was Invented By Satoshi Nakamoto Bitcoin is a cryptocurrency, a form of money that uses cryptography to control its creation and management, rather than relying on central authorities . Bitcoin protocol was invented by Satoshi Nakamoto who described it as a purely peer to peer version of electronic cash that would allow online payments to be sent directly from one party to another without going through a financial institution. The solution they gave for the double spending problem using peer to peer network was that the timestamps transactions were hashed into an ongoing chain of hash based proof of work, forming a record that cannot be changed without redoing the proof of work. Bitcoin became the first decentralized cryptocurrency in 2009.This means that as opposed to centralized electronic money/banking systems, the decentralized control uses the Bitcoin s block chain transaction database in the role of a distributed ledger. By convention, the first transaction in a block is a special transaction that starts a new coin owned by the creator of the block. This adds an incentive for nodes to support the network, and provides a way to initially distribute coins into circulation, since there is no central authority to issue them. The Bitcoin technology is evolving ever since it was launched in 2008. • 23. Summary Of Untitled By Gerald Dono The painting of Untitled by Gerald Donato displayed in the Taubman Museum in Roanoke allures attention by the chaotic combination of figural pieces and the collided whirlwind of vibrant yellows, oranges, greens, and undertones of black. The background information shares that Gerald Donato was a talented, beloved painter and teacher whose work anticipated references to important art historical developments. Ideological forces, such as familiar cartoon imagery, Steamboat Willie , and formally represented figures, are clearly influences in his work as his interest of hidden subject matter is visually bursted on an oil canvas. He created a blended cartoon like scene of abstraction and figuration by incorporating a mysterious feminine figureMoon face and a recurring character Mr. Man to embody a message of escaping from the spiral cage that represents the constraints in life. Mr. Donato borrowed images from past history and radically transformed these elements through his own blend of abstraction and figures to send a message about the conflict between society and individuals. The artist depicts an initial confusing and weirded out thought for the viewer at first glance, but as one deeply examines the art, the subject matter begins to become more clear. The vision being shared in this non objective painting has a context of placing one in the standing of Mr. Man by gaining height and freedom from the (white) bars that are rising on each level that represent conflict which traps one in a cage of misery. The unbalanced symmetry of having the left side take up more space with little action, and the right side being smaller with the action unraveling, makes the viewer break down each composite perspective. For the left side, the mysterious female muse, Moon Face, has an unproportional face that is almost blushing with shades of light pasty orange, with the mouth wide open. The energetic mood is amplified by the tone of yellow that is splashed in the mouth, representing a loss of words or at a state of disbelief. The female s lower half is created with tints of red that enhances the curves on her body, as if chiaroscuro connects the light and dark contrast to show outline of the breasts, stomach, and hips in ... As an icon of female strength, she translates the complexity and elegance that characterize the woman, with the creation of what would become the scent par excellence. Her way of conceiving the perfumeis peculiar. When asked where to put the perfume she replies: A woman should wear a fragrance wherever she expects to be kissed ( A Woman ). Coco also launches what turned out, according to the instructions of the designer, had to embody a concept of femininity timeless, unique, and fascinating. The avant garde idea of Chanel breaks every scheme imagining her fragrance for a modern and independent woman, far from the stereotype that envisages she should perfume of roses. Before Planning can even begin a teacher must know what the children need to learn. When the teacher gave me my topic s I went straight to the National Curriculum. It is also important in order to plan for progression to know what they have previously covered so I arranged a meeting with the class teacher. Once all this information had been established I collated my planning. Denby, (2012) claims starting a lesson with what children already know lends itself to the importance of planning. He believes lessons must be planned to accommodate progression. It is important that teachers feel confident about what their pupils know or can do. Once this has been determined their next challenge is to plan lessons that allow children to collectively move forward. A massive amount of Americans who were not of Japanese descent believed that the Japanese community could not be trusted, so the government felt that it was necessary to remove them from their homes and place them in camps located away from militarized coastal regions. This was a controversial decision at the time and still receives criticism today for going against typical American constitutional values centering around citizen s unalienable rights. Through the research of many letters written during Japanese internment or reflecting on the event, it seems that Japanese Americans of that time period had mixed feelings about being relocated and the majority of the community was upset that they were viewed and treated differently than other Americans but did acknowledge that the overall treatment they received at camp was fair. Japanese Internment camps were psychologically damaging to Japanese Americans due to the racist nature of selective forced evacuation, and the Japanese community was more upset about being removed from their homes than how they were treated at camp. As you may know, the banks, the mortgage brokers, and the consumers were all affected by this collapse. On each level of the system, there were things that went wrong and that could have been changed that could have prevented the failure of the housing market. Before the 1970s the banking was not a business that you went into to make money. That was until Louis Ranieri came around. Louis Ranieri had one idea that changed the housing market forever. His plan was to have a mortgageback security. A mortgage back security is an assist based security backed by a mortgage. For example, if you use your mortgage to start a business, your business is backed by that mortgage. The average mortgage loan has a fixed rate loan and takes thirty years to pay off, but then he thought to bundle them all together. They thought these would still be less risky because who would not pay their mortgage. They were doing hundreds of million dollars in mortgage bonds a year, but that all changed when they ran out of mortgages to put into the bonds. If there were no bonds then there was nothing left to make money, and the banking world was going to back to the way it was. • 40. Efficient Market Hypothesis And The Effect Of High... Efficient Market Hypothesis and the Effect of High Frequency Trading The efficient market hypothesis (EMH) has consistently remained in the forefront of finance theory for decades. As technology has advanced, the ability to assess the efficient market hypothesis has increased exponentially and so have the opportunities to exploit it. Tactics such as high frequency trading and insider trading threaten the dependability of the efficient market hypothesis. EMH is a rudimentary theory that implies the value of an asset is directly correlated or about equal to the intrinsic value of the asset. (Brigham Houston, 2012) The intrinsic value of a stock is the actual value of a company or an asset based on an underlying perception of its true value including all aspects of the business, in terms of both tangible and intangible factors (investopedia.com). Investors use this logic to determine whether to buy or sell a stock depending on its perceived value with respect to the intrinsic value. Whether the investor employs an active or passive investment strategy, the EMH is a rational decision making process to ensure a confident investment. The efficient market hypothesis is constantly being analyzed for its validity in the current market. There are a multitude of external factors contributing to the reluctance of relying on the EMH. Specifically, the rise of high frequency trading has significantly called into question the legitimacy of the efficient market. High ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 44. The Historical Period of Enlightenment Enlightenment The historical period which is known as the Enlightenment occurred during the latter half of the 17th century and the first half of the 18th century. The period was marked by a decided increase placed on the importance of scientific and philosophical investigation. Political philosophy was one of the most frequent and important branches of theorizing and discourse. One of the most famous political theoreticians was a man named John Locke. His theories would revolutionize the way that people thought about their governments and what right they had, if any, in questioning their government. Later, the rebellion between the colonies and Great Britain and then the subsequent founding of the United States of America would be based upon the writings of Locke, particularly his theories of toleration, the concept of republic, and his social contract theory. In his book Letters Concerning Toleration, John Locke wrote in response to the frequent holy wars on English history. English history and their colonies were based upon Christian tenets, and the governments and armies of the English throne were acting based upon their religious principles. Because of that cause, many people died. It would logically then reason that if there were more toleration of religious differences, there would be far fewer occasions of bloodshed because of religious viewpoint (McGrath 1998, page 214). Costs, as mentioned earlier, are significantly more than the costs associated with the implementation of a DRC. Furthermore, in addition to the trained personnel, the building infrastructure must also be included in the feasibility of administrative capcity. Unlike the staffing for the DRC, the staffing required for the continuation of housing offenders in the RHRJ until an additional facility is built, is heavily reliant on the number of offenders in jail at a given time. As seen in figure 1 in the appendix, there are several staffing needs to be met. Given the projected growth in the jail population, the number of personnel required to provide services and programs is not adequate; it is especially not supportive of future expansion of programs and services for the community (Moseley Architects, 2014). Cost Several cost components factor into the traditional incarceration model. The figure that is commonly discussed within the correctional system is the per day incarceration cost. It represents the amount of funding necessary to house one inmate for one day at the RHRJ facility. According to Captain Shortell, the per day incarceration cost for 2013 was $73.35, and there was a slight reduction for 2014 down to $72.33. These figures will be used in subsequent calculations to compare costs of the Day Reporting Center to the traditional incarceration option. With an average per day incarceration occupancy of 350 beds, the yearly figure for housing the inmates equals a staggering $9.24 million. Communication And Verbal And Non Verbal Communication Essay Communication, as described in businessdictinary.com, is a two way process in reaching mutual understanding, in which participants not only exchange information, news, ideas and feelings but also create and share meaning. It is a means of connection between people or places. Without communication there would be no understanding between people and important information and messages would not be correctly conveyed. This is why communicationplays an important role in our daily lives and when not done or when done incorrectly it may cause many undesired issues. There are two forms of communication: non verbal communication and verbal communication. Verbal and non verbal communication: Verbal communication is the use of language and sounds to convey a message clearly. There are two types of verbal communication: written and oral. Written communication is the use of pens and paper, emails, texting and any other form of contact using language and not speech. The current truth is that access and success in higher educationcontinue to be stratified according to income... (Eckel King, 2004). Increased enrollment at collegecampuses strikes as an initially positive thought; more students can gain and educationand contribute that education to bettering society. However, increase enrollment could lead to increase selectivity, if enrollment increased in extreme enough amounts. State schools, that were founded to offer quality education would now have a larger pool of student to pick from. For the state school s fortunate enough to the capacity to educate more student s their success would continue to increase. But what about the state schools that are already struggling with enrollment issues? Will they continue to live out their mission and increase enrollment at the expense of the student s education quality.
