As Media Main Task
What is it?
My prospective media product is the
introduction to a feature-length psychological
thriller film, targeting a young adult/adult
demographic. Speculatively, the film would be a
low-budget British film, receiving funding from
the BFI and BBC Films (which would serve as the
distributor). As such, the film’s visual aesthetic
and narrative tone will reflect its budget, with a
limited cast (consisting of mostly unknown
actors) and a modestly-sized film crew.
Brief Synopsis
Markus is a common but good-natured young
adult, living alone with his little sister in a council
house (who he serves as her legal guardian after
his mother passed away). His life is turned to
chaos when his sister is kidnapped and detained
by Helix, an enigmatic drug lord, and he is forced
to carry out various violent “errands” if he ever
hopes to see her alive again. Little does he know
that Helix has an ulterior motive…
How will I film it?
    • The opening will have only two scenes: a bedroom, and an underpass (both of
which are located in my home town). This ensures that re-shooting can be done
quickly and effectively if in the post-production stage I feel that certain shots are
flawed, inconsistent, or do not represent my vision.

• As lighting is central to the film’s visual tone and mood, I will have to take particular
care with how I shoot these scenes. If necessary, I will take use of the post-
production facilities available to me and apply effects such as colour grading to
    enhance certain shots.
Music and Sound
• In terms of soundtrack, I will be producing my own incidental music as and when it
is required in the sequence. The primary track that I will be using during my actual
title sequence will be “Klaiverwerke” by James Blake. As this track is not royalty free
or non-copyright, I will be e-mailing the artist or a representative of the artist and
asking for explicit permission to feature the track in my sequence. I will
subsequently attach the e-mail to my blog.

• In terms of diegetic sound, my sequence will mostly consist of background
ambience and occasional SFX (Sound effects). There is very little dialogue; save for a
small conversation between two characters. The sequence as a whole is otherwise
    very musically driven.

                                                                                         5
Typography
• In terms of the title sequence’s font, I am aiming to use simple
yet large, blunt lettering. It will likely be sans serif, and
positioned in a manner that makes it hard to ignore. As the
typography of the titles can represent the genre of a film as
well as give an impression to the level of production values
that a film has, I will take time to choose a font that suits my
  sequence well.

                                                                 6
