Dunedin is the second largest city in New Zealand's South Island. It is home to the University of Otago, New Zealand's first university established in 1869. By 1990, Dunedin reinvented itself as a 'heritage city' through refurbishing its main streets in Victorian style. Notable architecture includes buildings designed by prominent architect R.A. Lawson as well as other landmarks like Baldwin Street, claimed to be the world's steepest street. The cityscape features gems of Victorian and Edwardian architecture and is centered around its octagonal plaza, The Octagon.
