4. What is Dual Enrollment?
 High school students who are also taking college courses for college credit
 Benefits include:
 Earn college credits
 Lower overall cost for college
 Become comfortable with doing college level work

5. Program Overview
Maryland State Department of Education’s College Readiness and Completion Act
of 2013 states that
 School districts must pay a portion of the tuition for high school juniors and seniors
that are at least 16 years of age, and who are also enrolled in courses at any
Maryland public state college or university

6. Who is eligible for dual enrollment?
PGCPS students must meet the following criteria:
At least 16 years of age on the first day of the college class
Minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA
Minimum requirements may vary at each college
Enrolled in 11th or 12th grade
Meet school requirements on college admissions tests: SAT,
ACT, Accuplacer
Minimum requirements may vary at each college

7. Dual Enrollment at PGCPS
 PGCPS will pay for:
 Tuition for all students dually enrolled in qualified courses
at any Maryland state college or university
 Fees and textbooks for students who receive free and reduced meals
 Applies to Fall, Spring, and Summer sessions
 Students must provide own transportation to and from the college campus

8. Dual Enrollment Process
Meet with counselors to identify course(s) of interests for Summer and
Fall to determine student eligibility.
Spring 2015 registration will take place in November.
Student completes application packet with all required signatures
Each institution may have a different admissions
process. Please contact them directly for additional
details.

9. Accuplacer Exam
Accuplacer is:
 a college admissions exam
PGCPS is paying for students to take the exam at
their high school
Testing window: March 3-April 10
10th and 11th grade students with at least a 2.5 GPA
have the option of taking the exam

10. Prince George’s Community College Application Packet
 Complete application packet includes:
 PGCPS dual enrollment form with required signatures and
course section numbers
 Complete PGCC application
 College placement exam score report with minimal required
score
 Copy of high school transcript from SchoolMax
 Verification that student meets minimal requirements for
course
 Incomplete packets will not be processed and notification will be
emailed
 Packets must be submitted to counselor no later than April 29
