SAY:
It feels like a catch 22, I need school to start
working, but I need money to attend school.
As a mature student, I appreciate the work
experience I have had, it makes what I am
learning now so much more relevant &
meaningful
I have had potential employees have their
mother call to arrange the interview!
Graduates are entering the work force with a
large amount of debt and a sense of entitlement
to match
The education system does not meet the needs
of todays students and tomorrow’s work force.
It is outdated.
Loving the online learning. I can learn anywhere
and anytime and from people all over the world.
Brilliant!
I want to learn from lots of people, not just one
teacher
I have learned so much from my travels!
I was not exposed to different careers, only the
few that were familiar to me. My choices were
limited by my ignorance and that of those
guiding me.
Teenagers don’t know what their options are
and don’t understand the implications of career
choices.
It shouldn’t be so difficult to switch careers if
you find a new passion or interest. It is almost
impossible.
Career decisions are based on assumptions
about money and status and life conveniences.
Think:
Education system is too expensive
Education system is outdated
Some parenting styles do not enable or
prepare students for the real world
People learn from diverse experiences and
diverse crowds
Some careers are misunderstood. Not
enough exposure and learning of different
careers
Travelling is educational
Insights:
Need to continue make education more
accessible
Current education system is not meeting
the needs of today’s students
People want option to change careers
Diversity enhances education
DO:
Take courses online
Work at night
Join LinkedIN as students
Network with potential employers
FEEL:
Frustrated by huge costs
Stuck in careers that no longer inspire
Afraid of choosing wrong career
Empowered by online accessibility
Empowered by social networking
Stakeholders:
1) Female in her late 30s in a marketing
director position at a large health care
product company. She hires many
employees
2) A female student in her early 20s currently
completing a master’s level degree in health
sciences
3) A female in her early 40s who has been
working for 18 years and would like to
change careers
STATEMENT: Students need cheaper, more accessible ways to
learn because flexibility and career diversity is important to
them
