DRUGS
How it affects you and the world you are living in.
People take drugs
because they want to
change something about
their lives.
Here are some of the reasons young people have
given for taking drugs:
•To fit in
•To escape or relax
•To relieve boredom
•To seem grown up
•To rebel
•To experiment
Drugs are essentially
poisons. The amount taken
determines the effect.
Normally, when a person remembers
something, the mind is very fast and information
comes to him quickly. But drugs blur memory,
causing blank spots.
One lie told about drugs is that they help
a person become more creative. The
truth is quite different.
Drugs can appear initially to have positive effects
– lifting your mood, relaxing you or even giving you more
energy. However, they can also have negative impacts on your
mental and physical health, your
relationships, and your life in general.
Drug dealers, motivated by the
profits they make, will say
anything to get you to buy their
drugs.
You recognize that you cannot use drugs and alcohol like
others and that you may need treatment and ongoing
support to prevent relapse. Is it possible to prevent drug
addiction altogether? Anything is possible, but if you are
predisposed genetically to addiction your chances are greater
for developing an addiction.
Addiction specialists can advise you
about addiction to drugs or alcohol,
mental health issues and the
combination of the two. This
information can help you prevent
drug addiction. Family-based drug or
alcohol prevention plans are also
highly effective at helping children
avoid the temptations of drugs or
alcohol.
