Mission
Drones2Disabled BluAngels is a community project to educationally
benefit 16-18 year old teens with spinal cord injuries by connecting
and empowering them to be Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Certified
Pilots. Its’ purpose is to raise funds, connect, empower, and educate
teens with spinal cord injuries so that they too can FLY. Thus,
making a difference in their lives and making their life, a life they
love to live.

Occurrence
•FAA predicts 10,000 Unmanned Aircraft Systems could be
airborne in the U.S. skies by 2020.
•FAA rule making began in 2011
•U.S. Congress requiring the FAA to have developed UAV rules
by September 2015
•FAA currently has six research/test sites operating in Alaska,
Nevada, North Dakota, New York, Texas, and Virginia.
•FAA is currently granting 333 exemptions & Certificates of
Authorization to individuals and companies on a case by case
basis as part of their research for developing rules for drone
use in commerce.
•Occurrence:
• It occurs for me the FAA will follow similar processes to
certification in their rule making as they have done with airman
certificates.
•Regulations are needed in the name of Safety & Innovation.
•Regulations should not regulate out people with SCI.
Regulations should include people with SCI.
•By creating awareness now, specifically before the public
comment opportunity, there is a real possibility the future for
people with SCI can be part of the drone community and
become Cinematographers, Aerial Traffic Reporters, Package
Delivery Specialist, Search & Rescue Providers for Police/Fire,
etc.

world's largest non-profit organization devoted exclusively to advancing
the unmanned systems and robotics community. Serving more than
7,500 members from government organizations, industry and

The Chicago Area Drone User Group(CHI DUG) is
an organization for amateur and professional
drone users that seeks to promote the
responsible use of flying robots for community
service, artistic, entrepreneurial and recreational
purposes. All experience levels are welcome. We
get together as a community to share tips,
experiences, and of course to do some flying. We
work to educate ourselves about how to build and
use drones in a safe and respectful manner and to
educate the public about the positive role aerial
robotics can play in our society. Most importantly,
we think that flying robots are a lot of fun! CHI

growth by the sharing of experiences and ideas. As a host to events, BACKBONES creates an inviting
atmosphere where people can ask questions, learn from each other informally, and make lasting
friendships.
