GENRE RESEARCH
BY AYESHA WARIND
WHAT DOES DRAMA MEANS
Drama as a genre combines the literary art of storytelling (and often poetry) with
live performance in a shared space. As a form of ritual as well as entertainment,
drama has served to unite communities and challenge social norms, to delight and
disturb its audiences.
THEME
Social issue dramas usually take up the theme of loneliness, selfless love, how
greed leads to one destroyal and how the wrong use of authority ultimately
results in end power. Also they are other themes that can be considered in the
part such as depression and finding out the cure to stable health or any
prevention that saves the main the character. The theme of a play refers to its
central idea. It can either be clearly stated through dialog or action, or can be
inferred after watching the entire film. The theme is the philosophy that forms
the base of the story or a moral lesson that the characters learn. Sometimes, the
theme of this genre may give a clear idea to an audience about how to tackle
these mental heaLth issues but also the message from the basic plot that can give
them a particular lesson.
MISE EN SCENE MEANING
Mise-en-scène is the stage design and arrangement of actors in scenes for a
theatre or film production, both in visual arts through storyboarding, visual theme,
and cinematography, and in narrative storytelling through direction.
ELEMENTS
LIGHTING
Film lighting is used to create and emphasize specific things about a scene, object,
or actor. The goal is to give the audience something to focus on—something to
make them remember. This is why light, whether it’s from a spotlight or a lamp, is
so important.
For example, actors appearing on screen may have some highlights (bright lights),
some mid-tones (medium lights), and some shadows (dark areas) to them. A typical
home light fixture produces only one of these three elements at a time, but movie
lighting is controlled with a lot more precision. Lighting engineers call this “film
lighting.”
LIGHTING….
Film lighting can be used for both front lighting and backlighting. Front lighting
refers to the illumination that comes from the side of the subject. Backlighting
refers to illumination coming from behind the subject.
SOUND
Diegetic sounds and background music can make the scene calm and soft, or bring
action and suspense.
