Skin Color Detection
Skin color detection is considered one of the most popular techniques of segmentation and
tracking because of its simplicity. The idea behind using this technique is that skin color is
different from other object s color and then can be used to identify human gesture part. There are
several color spaces such as RGB, YIQ, YUV, and generic color model that are used to
distinguish skin pixels from non skin pixels through comparing a predefined skin color model
(skin pixels) with pixels of the input image. Figure 2 shows skin color technique using YIQ and
YUV color spaces.
Thermal camera is an infrared camera that is able to detect infrared radiation emitted from the
human body (temperature). It can determine the human gesture region depending on the human
temperature while background is neglected. Figure 3 shows human interaction captured by thermal
camera.
This technique is used to track and detect moving gesture parts depending on the difference
between two or three consecutive video frames. The pervious image (frame) is subtracted from the
current image (frame) in order to obtain the moving part.
A.Background subtraction
The idea behind this technique is to set a background as a reference or model and then compare
the current frame with the reference background in a pixel by pixel manner to detect the moving
foreground object. The background model is updated with a new image from time to time in order
to track dynamic changes. Figure 4 shows background subtraction

##s And Weaknesses And Strengths Of Rudy Giuliani
Like all famous leaders, Rudy Giuliani had his fair share of strengths and weaknesses. Giuliani
showed the country and the world what true leadership was in the wake of 9/11. During a time of
crisis, he demonstrated courageousness, dedication and composure. Even though Giuliani is mostly
remembered for his strengths, his weaknesses are usually overlooked. He was criticized for being
unfaithful and allowing lust to break up his marriage. Another weakness of Giuliani was his
inconsistency to reprimand his policeforce. Giuliani was a man of positivity. No matter the
situation, Giuliani always looked at the positive side of things and didn t allow his emotions to get
the best of him. This strength of his leadership style stemmed from the core values his father
taught him. In an interview with Barbara Walters, Giuliani talked about what his father taught him.
Giuliani explained that his father had taught him how to act during a crisis: When there is a crisis
going on, the most important thing is to be calmer. If everybody s getting very upset and very
emotional, the best way to figure out your way through it is to actually become calmer and relax
more. He understood that when in a time of uncertainty, being calm was the key. Another key
strength of Giuliani was how he was a natural born leader. NYPD Commissioner William Bratton
commented on Giuliani s natural born leadership. I ve seen the mayor in many instances during the
time I worked with him as police commissioner

Gary Terrell Case Study
Gary Terrell receives an insurance settlement check and deposits the check into his credit union
account for payment, subsequently it is determined that the check has a stop payment placed upon
it. The credit union took the check from Terrell, does this constitute a Holder in Due Course status?
Under the Uniform Commercial Code (UCC), section 3 302, the bank took the check for value, in
good faith, without notice that the check was dishonored, and had not been altered. Therefore, the
credit union paid the check, indorsed the instrument, and submitted to the maker for payment.

I m For An Early Night
The two of them played into the fading light and returned to ГЃngelita s inn. The cold and the
awkward conversation with the man dressed as a beggar had made them feel as tired as a pair of
work horses at dusk. I m for an early night, said Carolina. I could sleep, too, but I have to attend
that meeting. And I need to be as sharp as a razor. Let s just have a quiet snooze. You ll be
brighter after a nap. The two of them made their way to Carolina s room, cuddled up to each
other, fully clothed, and fell asleep. They were awoken by the neighing sound of a horse outside
the inn. Time I went downstairs to this meeting. I wonder what time it is, said Antonio. I m sure it s

Fearing trouble if he did not respond as told, Antonio took his violin from its case and struck up
the tune of To Amirillis . This was no random choice. He hoped the tune would smoke out the
man dressed as a beggar, if he were there, and sure enough... Thought you said you didn t know
it! shouted a disembodied voice from somewhere near the middle of the crowd, most of whom
were on their feet. The source gradually made his way to the front, pushing his way past about a
dozen or so others as he did so. Antonio hardly recognised him. The beggar had said as much.
Gone were the pantaloons tied with string, the chest exposing open shirt, the battered hat and
bare feet. Now he was dressed in a new, brown tricorne, a long black coat over black leather boots
and a white shirt, decorated by a smart, black silk tie. He d trimmed his ragged beard to a neat
point and shaped his moustache to a rakish, symmetrical upward curve on each side of his face.
Antonio could smell the musky perfume on his subtle umber wig which almost matched his
darker, brown hair. No. It s just the words we don t know. We know the tune well! smiled Antonio,
wondering what the man s reaction would be and still unsure as to what his exact position could be
in this confusion of masculine sweat and untidiness. His demeanour and countenance gave him an
air of superiority over these other apparently inferior individuals. I m so glad you could attend

A Brief Note On The Water Treatment Systems
Water treatment systems The groundwater source is from GoldCentury gold mine, whereby excess
groundwater is pumped out of mine at a maximum volumetric flow rate of 477L/s. It contains
contaminants such as volatile organic compounds (VOCs), heavy metal impurities, sulphates,
bicarbonates, microorganisms, dissolved minerals and objectionable gases, but focuses on the
removal of dissolved inorganic contaminants such as calcium and iron. The most prevalent
dissolved minerals which are Calcium and Magnesium, also known as hardness, can be removed
by precipitation, requiring softening steps. The purification system designed is based more on
efficiency over cost effectiveness. The purpose of treating the groundwater in this assignment, is to
purify it to drinking standards to hydrate mineworkers underground during heated, intense mine
work operations, and for operating certain equipment and tools. Figure 1: Mine groundwater
treatment plant schematic Figure 1 shows the following unit operations: A settling tank is
installed to allow large particles such as to settle so that they can easily be removed. The
retention time is around 30 minutes or 0.5 hours. Aeration removes excess and objectable gases.
A packed tower stripping system is used which removes 99.95% (or 179.91mg/L) of VOCs. This
process also reduces the pH of the water and has a retention time of 22.716 minutes (0.3786hr).
Chemical precipitation is performed on larger molecules which make up the suspended solids

It has also now term as the key strategic parameter for any organization to keep their employee

James Truslow Adams And The American Dream
As it is stated in the constitution, all men are created equal , however many people feel as if
they are not treated equal to their fellow citizens. America is viewed as a land where all things
are possible and people can achieve all their hopes and dreams. Although this is a simple concept,
how one must work to achieve these goals is much more complicated. Everyone is born into a
different situation and the opportunities they are exposed to differ depending on the person. The
original idea of the American Dreamsupported the idea that all American citizens are able to obtain
a better life than they are currently living; however, that idea is continuously changing and many
interpret their own dream in different ways.

Many veterans were able to get a home with a low mortgage due to the GI Bill, a benefit program
to help cover costs of veterans, and the American Dream became closely tied to home ownership.
The ideal dream continued to change and many Americans purchased products and good that they
believed would improve their life.
After the dream moved on from home ownership, it turned into a need for the latest products.
Middle class Americans, however, did not have enough money to purchase the new trend. In
1950, the first credit card was introduced and as time went on it became more popular than ever.
Americans were thrilled with the idea of owning everything they could imagine without having
the money to do so; however, many people racked up a large amount of debt. In addition to the
debt, America faced a mortgage crisis in the early 2000 s. The American Dream came crashing
down for many and their once happy lives were now full of stress, yet they believed there was hope
for a better life.
Despite having the idea of a better life many Americans today feel as if they cannot achieve the
American Dream. When the American Dream was first introduced, the cost of living was much
lower than what it is today and opportunities for success are not the same as they were before.
Weekly earnings have gradually decreased since 1962; likewise, the

PROBLEM STATEMENT Various eye problems have been associated with overexposure to
sunlight.
CAUSE
Ultraviolet Ray
WHY? People are unaware of what UVR can cause to their vision/eye sight.
WHY? Insufficient spread of information to the public.
Sub Problem
How can we completely inform the public about the dangers caused by the UVR?
INTRODUCTION
Another radiation from the sun can harm not only your skin but also your eyes. Extended exposure
to the sun s UV rays has been linked to eye damage, which includes the cataract that clouds the eye
s natural lens that can cause to temporary vision loss.
The purpose of this project is to make the public aware of what UV ray can cause to their vision.

A study of a United States population found that individuals who had high levels of sun exposure
were about 1.5 times more likely to develop cortical or posterior subcapsular cataracts than those
who had low sun exposure, while those with moderate sun exposure were about 1.2 times more
likely to develop each of these types of cataracts. * Pterygium: Pterygium is characterised by a
fleshy growth on the eye s surface. The WHO estimates that 4070% of the global burden from this
disease is attributable to sun exposure. A study conducted in Victoria reported that 43.6% of
pterygium cases were attributable to sun exposure. * Age related macular degeneration: Based on
laboratory studies showing thatUV rays cause retinal damage in rats, scientists believe that
exposure to UV rays contributes to the degeneration of eyesight which occurs naturally with ageing.
How UVR Impacts the Eye
The various tissue layers of the eye absorb the wavebands of UVR to different extents. The longer
the wavelength, the deeper the penetration of ocular tissue. Of the radiation from sunlight, UV B has
the greatest impact on the eye. Overexposure can result in photokeratitis or, in rare cases, solar
maculopathy. Studies show that chronic exposure to UV B can also cause cortical cataracts. UV A
is considered a greater threat to produce skin cancer than damage the eye.
While the ozone layer filters UV C from the sun, a welder s arc can generate toxic dosages of this
potent waveband.

Gender Identity Disorder Research Paper
Gender identity disorder also referred to as gender variance, and in other cultures as two spirited,
can be described as the formal diagnosis that psychologists and physicians give to individuals who
experience reasonable gender dysphoria. Such individuals are not contented with the biological sex
that they possess and tend to strongly identify with the other sex. It is a psychiatric categorization
and describes characteristics that are linked to transgenderidentity, transvestism and transsexuality
and is the diagnostic categorization normally associated with transsexuals, or individuals who feel
they were born into the wrong physicality (Kenneth Bradley, 2002).
Gender identity disorder manifests itself differently in early pediatrics than in adolescents or adults,

opposite sex and would rather be recognized in public as members of the opposite sex. Many
individuals who are affected by gender identity disorder request for sexual reassignment surgery, or
more commonly referred to as a sex change operation (Kenneth Bradley, 2002).
Prevalence
The disorder normally affects more males than females in society. According to WebMD, in
Europe, there are 1 in 30,000 males and 1 in 100,000 females who are diagnosed with gender
identity disorder (WebMD Prevalence, 2006). Sometimes G.I.D. is mistaken with accompanied by
transvestic fetishism, which is, could be seen in heterosexual males accompanied with intense
sexually arousing fantasies, sexual urges, or behaviors which involve cross dressing
(DSMIVp.258 59). The disorder can be noted in early children but many people are diagnosed of
the problem at adolescence (Maccoby Jacklin, 1974).

The Culture And Business Practices Of Japan
Introduction
221 Baker plans to open a store in Tokyo, Japan by the end of the 2016 fiscal year. By conducting
research by utilizing the World Wide Web and an informative interview by Sensei Mako Nozu, we
have gathered substantial information about the culture and business practices of Japan. We feel as
if our knowledge has equipped us to succeed in this widely misunderstood market. Venture Japan
stated that many foreign countries never do start business in Japan (or enter the market through a
distributor) because of the misconception, fueled by those infamous myths of doing business in
Japan, that dealing with the Japanese business culture is somehow too risky (Venture Japan). We
are ready to take on this risk as many other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, if your shift is at 9 A.M. you are expected to be dressed, clocked in, and at your
desk before that time (Nozu). Also, in every situation you find yourself in, you should be aware
of how people are perceiving you, as this is extremely important to the Japanese. It is very
common for the Japanese to go out after work to bars, karaoke s, or restaurants. If you are
invited you should make an effort to go, as good relationships with those whom you work with
are important. The well being of the group is always placed above the individual in their culture.
If a Japanese business is not doing well the CEO would cut his own pay so that it could be fairly
distributed to his employees. Things like this, that we may not see in Western business practices,
are all part of the unified country of Japan. Family Life
As the Japanese are very social and place a lot of emphasis on strong bonds, family is extremely
important. Families in Japan are referred to as ie and are all registered to the same koseki or
official government document (Bestor). The structure is very similar that seen in Western culture
where the mother, father, and children reside together. It is common for older relatives to live
with a family, and if they do not, there is an old saying that even if an extended family does not
live together, parents and grandparents should live near enough to carry over a bowl of hot

Analyzing The Studio System In Hollywood In The 1920 s
The studio system was an arrangement of craft services and talent that made movies dictated by
contractual terms. Through this system, studios could easily move from project to project,
producing like that of a factory. Creating movies in this arrangement eliminated the need to raise
money or finances; directors usually created movies in the style of the studio which lessened
artistic creativity (Lewis, p 104). The studio system was dominant in Hollywood through the
1920 s well into the 1950 s. Analyzing the studio system simplistically we see basic capitalism. In
the 1920 s movies became more popular, so fulfilling the rules of basic supply and demand,
studios were formed to profit from the insatiable public desire to see more films (in

Johannes Gutenberg Research Paper
Many people have made an impact on our society with their ideas and inventions. One of the people
that made a big impact on the world is Johannes Gutenberg who invented the moveable type
printing press. His invention made major improvements to the printing industry and made things
more convenient for many people. Without his invention our society might not have developed as
quickly as it did.
Unfortunately, not much is known about Gutenberg s early life. He was born between 1394 and
1400 to a wealthy family of goldsmiths and coin minters, in present day southwest Germany (new)

Gutenberg was able to perfect his methods he forged easily cast uniform typeface, formulated a
special ink that would adhere to metal, and modified the standard wooden wine press to fit the task
of printing on paper. Sadly, there partnership ended in 1455 because Faust wanted Gutenberg to
pay him back on his investment. Before the pair split they were able to produce the famous
Gutenberg Bible. Based on Gutenberg s paper supply historians believe he produced around 180
bibles which was a large number at the time. (n2) The bible was sold for about 30 Florins, which
was a large amount of money at the time. (n2) Faust sued Gutenberg for not paying back his
investment of two thousand guilders and the court ruled in favor of Faust, which in turn made
Gutenberg go bankrupt.(new) Gutenberg also had to turn in his printing equipment to Faust and
half the bibles they had made, although he did open his own print shop its likely he never made a
profit off of the bibles (new 2). After the split Gutenberg produced the 36 line bible and an
encyclopedia called the Catholicon. It is likely that Gutenberg stopped printing after the production
of the Catholicon. Even though he may have stopped, many others, including those in other
countries continued to use his invention because of its convenience and ability to print things

Picturesque as Rhetorical Mode in Tintern Abbey
Presentation Outline:
I. Brief definition and discussion of the picturesque
II. Discussion of Wordsworth s repudiation of the picturesque
III. Pinpointing elements of the picturesque in Tintern Abbey
IV. Discussion of Wordsworth s use of the picturesque as a rhetorical device
I. Define and Discuss Picturesque
The concept of the picturesque came out of a need for a label for that gray area between the
sublime (founded on pain and terror) and the beautiful (founded on feelings of pleasure). The only
common definition of the term is, as Gilpin writes, that kind of beauty which would look well in a
picture (Watson 11). As... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All of these divisions are to be described individually, but with an eye to the effect of the whole.
According to Gilpin, nature is intrinsically whole, but is of such a vast scale, our mere human
experience of the parts cannot comprehend this inherent harmony. This lack gives the artist license
to modify the real scene in order to express wholeness according to his or her rules of composition
(Watson 44). Thus, although it is based on real stations with real views, the search for the
picturesque becomes a quest for an ideal, generic landscape the landscape of the painted postcards
from the grand tour.
II. Discuss Wordsworth s repudiation of the picturesque
As is argued by David Miall, Nicola Trott, WJB Owen, and J. Watson, Wordsworth repeatedly
repudiates the concept of the picturesque. Within Tintern Abbey specifically, he equates it with his
own immaturity in relation to nature. He writes that in 1793, when he first visited Tintern: I came
among these hills, when like a roe I bounded o er the mountains by the sides Of the deep rivers
and the lonely streams Wherever nature led, more like a man Flying from something that he dreads
than one Who sought the thing he loved. For nature then (The courser pleasures of my boyish days
And their glad animal movements all gone by) To me was all in all. I cannot paint What then I was.

Cost of Equity = 6% + 1.2 * 5%
Cost of Equity = 0.06 + 1.2 * 0.05
Cost of Equity = .12
Cost of Equity = 12%
HydroTech s cost of equity using CAPM is 12%.
4. Using a tax rate of 35%, calculate HydroTech s effective cost of debt capital.
Cost of Debt = 7%; Tax Rate = 35%
Effective cost of debt capital = Cost of debt * (1 tax rate)
Effective Cost of Debt Capital = 7% * (1 35%)
Effective Cost of Debt Capital = 0.07 * (1 0.35)
Effective Cost of Debt Capital = 0.07 * (0.65)
Effective Cost of Debt Capital = 0.0455
Effective Cost of Debt Capital = 4.55%
HydroTech s Cost of Debt Capital is 4.55%.
5. Calculate HydroTech s WACC
Weight of Equity = 71%; Equity Cost of Capital = 12%; Weight of Debt = 29%; Debt Cost of
Capital = 4.55%
WACC = (Weight of Equity * Equity Cost of Capital) + (Weight of Debt * Debt Cost of Capital)
WACC = (71% * 12%) + (29% * 4.55%)
WACC = (0.71 * 0.12) + (0.29 * 0.0455)
WACC = 0.0852 + 0.013195
WACC = 0.098395
WACC = 9.8395% HydroTech s WACC is 9.8395%.

Pica Cravings
People tend to have cravings every once in a while. Those that have been pregnant before may
have a better understanding of this. Sometimes, these cravings can be a sign of something
wrong internally. Did you know that craving items that are not food is a disorder? Many do not.
The name of this craving disorder is called Pica.(Lackey, Carolyn J, 2013) Pica got its name from
the Latin language. In Latin, Pica means magpie. Magpie is a bird that eats literally everything.
Pica is a pattern of eating nonfood items.(Barkoukis, 2008). This pattern must go on for more than
a month for it to become a disorder. In a month s span, one could ingest many different items of
non food. (Just think about how much you will eat on just a daily basis, and imagine the amount of
nonfood items people eat!) Some of these nonfood items those with this disorder may consume are:
dirt, animal feces, cigarette butts, matches, clay, paint, ice, sand, and even hairballs. (Barkoukis,

The likely cause of pica is normally a deficiency of zinc, iron, or another nutrient that is not taken
properly. The body can be deficient by not supplying the body with enough nutrients because of
dieting of starvation, or by the body not absorbing the nutrients like it should. Deficiencies of
nutrients can cause severe reactions in the human body. Often, the cause of pregnant women
attracting this disorder is simply from an iron deficiency. This type of iron deficiency is also
called Anemia. Iron deficiency anemia is the most common type of anemia. (Rogers,2015). Iron
helps your body make hemoglobin and without it, your body does not get the oxygen that it needs.
Pregnant women are not the only people who contract this disorder though. Pregnant woman are
the most popular study for pica, but children or adults with developmental disabilities are likely to
have pica as well. (Some of these disabilities include schizophrenia and obsessive compulsive

Human Body-Exhibit
Although there was a lot of passing in my family, growing up I was never allowed to come near a
deceased body, even that of a family member. My grandma told me that in our Vietnamese culture,
there was this notion that the souls of the death get attached to innocence children, causing them to
encounter bad luck in life and sickness especially if the passing individual was ill. I was skeptical
of the notion and took it for what it is a superstition. On the other hand, my family takes the dead
very seriously, so the thought of donating one body to science is out of the question. No one, who
attended the funeral, was allowed into the main house until they have changed out from the clothes
they wore to the funeral. And immediately, the funeral... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Popular Support In Julius Caesar Essay
Popular support and the distribution of power are two intertwining concepts that are prominent in
Nicolo Machiavelli s 16th century treatise, The Prince, and Julius Caesar by William
Shakespeare, of the same era. While Machiavelli s treatise served to provide a practical guide to a
reigning prince and Shakespeare s play served to entertain an Elizabethan audience, both composers
examine different perspectives of popular support and the distribution of power.
The Prince similarly suggests that popular support is essential in achieving power, but prioritises
the importance of gaining support from the citizens over the support from nobles. Machiavelli
critically analyses the advantages and disadvantageous concerning monarchy and popular support ...

Caesar s power is distributed amongst characters including Antony, Brutus and Octavian, and as
such, his own individual power is weakened, giving Brutus and the conspirators the opportunity
to rebel against him. Brutus power is conveyed in Cassius speech in Act 1 Scene 2, where he
utilises rhetorical questions including, Why would that name [Caesar] be sounded more than
yours? and sarcasm by referring Caesar as Immortal , to undermine Caesar s authority as a ruler.
However, while Brutus and the conspirators successfully murder Caesar, Antony and Octavian
emerge as the victors at the Battle at Philippi, suggesting that ultimately Caesar s spirit and rule
lives in the noblemen who support him. The recurring supernatural imagery of Caesar s spirit in
both Brutus tent prior to the battle in Act 4 Scene 3 and on the battlefield conveyed by Brutus in
Act 5 Scene 5, suggests that Caesar s spirit not only metaphorically perpetuates but also literally
appears in front of Brutus. The fact that the play is named after him despite his death early in the
play and not after Brutus, further enhances the idea that the distribution of power from the leader to
his noblemen allows the leader s rule to continue beyond his

To what extent was Themistocles responsible for the Greek victory in the Persian Wars? Daniel
Ashby Themistocles was responsible for the Greek victory in the Persian wars to a considerable
extent. The key to Athens strength in the 5th Century BC was in this general and statesman and
therefore, as Greek victory relied so heavily on Athens, Themistocles vitally contributed to the
outcome of the Persian king s invasion of 480 479 BC. His early life reflects the character and
skills developed that were responsible for these contributions. Five pivotal roles he undertook were
of varying degrees responsible for Greece s success against Xerxes. Themistocles possessed an

To a certain degree the characteristics of his youth, despite his own affirmation of breaking and
training , beneficially prevail to adulthood. The roman biographer Cornelius Nepos ascertains that
The vices of his early youth were compensated by great virtues . These same vices, his impulsive
attitude in the public life, were responsible for the very virtuous achievements he is referring to. In
fact these character traits foreshadow the decisions he would make years later in the Persian Wars.
Comparatively, his impulsiveness matured into a cunning and uncontrollable determination in the
face of authority. He was cleverly deceitful in the construction of a fleet of triremes, he was
uncompromising against the Spartan commander Eurybiades at the first gathering at Corinth in
480 BC, and he was determined to get his own way in vital battles such as Salamis and Artemisium
whether that required deceiving those authorities above him or not. Plutarch, Nepos, and
Themistocles himself all refer to a degree of uncontrollable yet cunning determination that serves a
great purpose in Greece s victory over Persia. Above all this, while he was still a youth public
affairs laid their grasp upon Themistocles. Plutarch also describes that while other boys would
entertain themselves and indulge in leisurely activities, Themistocles would be composing and
rehearsing to himself mock

The Cloud Of Wild Canadian Geese
A subdued accumulation of churning murky grey clouds presses forward from the eastern horizon
and occupies half of the mid afternoon s sky. The sun s blistering rays diffuse in the clouds and
tinges the cloud s outer edges with shades of crimson and wine. The lake s clear, echoing plane
beckon the luminance of the cloud s striking blend of colors. Its stagnant nature furnishes a
reflection of the full length of the radiant sky, down to the terrain s low banking hills and grassy
overgrowths within the fields. A thin assembly of tall, heavily branched loblolly pines enshroud
the compass of the landscape, forming an imitation of an opaque forest wall. The rainfall deepens
and electrifies the inertness of the terrain. The pines shake from side to side in the blustery weather,
waving and swirling their branches around with vigorous activity. A short leafed oaktree, much
larger and archaic than its counterparts, stands firmly on the precipice of the lake s long, curving
contour. An exposed gaggle of wild Canadian geese shuffle their soiled webbed feet with short,
quick steps alongside their goslings through lush bunches of wild grass en route towards shelter
from the unforgiving downpour. The gaggle takes cover from under the oak tree s high adhering
limbs by the edge of the lake. Two of the oak tree s main protruding limbs expand upward and
slanted, in opposing directions. Mossy vines crawl up and around the oak s trunk and hang from
the tips of the main limb

Examples Of Mutiny In The Odyssey
But in my heart I never gave consent (Homer 895). These words of Odysseus perfectly describe
how loyalty is portrayed in the Odyssey. By illustrating the act of mutiny, Odysseus men are
disloyal with a deathly punishment. Through the acts of cheating and mutiny, the main characters
of The Odyssey are expressed as disloyal.
To begin with, Odysseus becomes disloyal to Penelope, conveying the act of cheating. In The
Odyssey, Odysseus is found landing on Ogygia, becoming affectionate towards Calypso. To
support this statement the text states, He has spent ten years (seven of them as Calypso s not
entirely unwilling captive) (Homer 891). Odysseus, having some power in the situation, decides to
sleep with Calypso. Therefore, Odysseus becomes disloyal to Penelope. After, Odysseus
accompanies Circe, falling for her through persuasion for three more years, remaining disloyal. The
text states, After many seasons of feasting and other pleasures (Homer 913). Moreover, Odysseus

U.s. Maritime Strategic Operations
Introduction For over 60 years the Forward Deployed Naval Forces (FDNF) in Japan has served
as a cornerstone for executing U.S. Maritime Strategies in Asia. From the strategies of Deterrence,
Power Projection, and Crisis Response, to the strategies of Littoral Operations and
Engagement, the FDNF has been a key contributor to these missions.
Several commands in the United States Navy operate in overseas outside of Continental United
States (CONUS). These are the different platforms of naval ships such as: Destroyers (DDG),
Mine Counter Measure (MCM), Landing Helicopter Dock (LHD), landing Platform Dock (LPD),

This was accomplished during a single day during underway in FDNF operation. All of this was
done on time, professionally and most importantly safely without a single personnel or equipment

FDNF Operational Requirements
The U.S. 7th Fleet is the largest U.S. numbered fleet (Figure 1), with 60 70 ships, 200 300
aircraft and about 40,000 Sailors and Marines operating in the region on a typical day (Carr,
2013). There are more than 48 million square miles (more than 124 million square kilometers) in
the 7th Fleet s Area of Responsibility (AOR). It covers the Kuril Islands in the north to the
Antarctic in the south, and from the International Date Line to the 68th meridian east, which runs
down from the India Pakistan border. It has 36 maritime countries and the world s five largest
foreign armed forces in the 7th AOR (i.e., Russia, India, North Korea, People s Republic of
China, and Republic of Korea). Five of the seven U.S. Mutual Defense Treaties are with countries
in the area of Republic of the Philippines, Republic of Korea, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and
Thailand (C7F, 2015).

to make more friends in school, it stops stress, and you can play soccer in your own backyard.
These are the exciting things about soccer. Come along with me and I will show you why all kids
should play soccer. One reason all kids should playsoccer is that you can make more friends and
great memories. For example, l was on the same soccer team as this kid named, Carmine,
because we were on the same team we are now friends. These are just great things that soccer can
do for you. I remember when l when l scored a goal playing against my cousin Michael. l scored a
goal in a one versus one games in their basement and that made me and my cousin kinder to each

soccer relaxes you if your parents yell at you. When feel sad, you can think about winning in
soccer and it will make you happy.
The third reason all kids should play soccer is that you can play soccer anywhere. Before i brought
Carmine and Jesse to iplay america, we had a little soccer game in my backyard. For instance, you
could play soccer in you house all you need is a ball and a friend. In addition you can make your
own soccer field in your backyard. For example we play soccer in my play room. This show how
great soccer is and why all kids should play soccer.
Some bad information, I am surprised at is that 10 kids think not all kids should play soccer and
only 6 kids in my class think all kids should play soccer. l think that all kids should play soccer.
This shows why all kids should play soccer. All kids should play soccer because you can make new
friends and memorise, you can play anywhere, and soccer is not stressful. Now get out there and

the outstanding issues, the brown stain issue was one of the items on the punch list. During the

arena, this involves either developing new technologies, or creating new business models. This is a
revolutionary strategy that re writes the rules of the game. The introduction of compact disc

without a single costly battle. This strategy is very effective when it can be realized.
Defensive marketing warfare strategies They are a type of marketing warfare strategy designed to
protect a company s market share, profitability, product positioning, or mind share. Fundamental
principles: 1. Always counter an attack with equal or greater force. 2. Defend every important
market. 3. Be forever vigilant in scanning for potential attackers. Assess the strength of the
competitor. 4. The best defense is to attack yourself. Attack your weak spots and rebuild yourself

The main types of defensive marketing warfare strategies are: * Position defense This involves
the defense of a fortified position. This tends to be a weak defense because you become a sitting

Lin Foxhall s Analysis
As a major critique of Hanson s model of the agrarian and military reforms, Lin Foxhall affirms that
archaeological and historical data differ in character, and historical events do not map easily onto
archaeological events (Foxhall, 195). After conducting several archeological excavations across the
Greek Peninsula, her findings on the Early to Mid Archaic period (650 535 BCE) reveal movement
and settlement patterns of the land working population unlike Hanson s revolutionary colonization
of marginal lands (e.g. hillslopes). Naturally, Foxhall questions not the increasing rural
mobilization, but, rather, the purpose or motives behind it: in periods when investment in the
countryside and pressure on land increased for whatever reasons

Putting Together an Online Presentation that Isn t Boring...
Putting together an online presentation that is not boring is quite an endeavor that leads to a more
difficult task of deciding which presentation tool would work best. Which is which the traditional
Microsoft PowerPoint or the newer Prezi? The MPP has been the standard tool for many users
which has commanded most familiarization requirements in all organizational structures. The
concept of Prezi on visual aids is a flash based application allowing the user to create a presentation
using a large, blank page instead of the much familiar traditional slides. The main difference

The finished process results are considered by Bird as more appealing to the presentation
audience as they are immersed in a kind of visual journey, as in the zooming out and in on the
presentation details which are far in contrast to PowerPoint s use of strictly steady slides.
Planning with Prezi is much simpler because one can get everything down on just one page and
within it works out all its details. PowerPoint is fast becoming a trademark for boring as users
are unable to harness it for effective presentation design, but a considerable number of advanced
users declare that PowerPoint allows more high end animation or a significant range of smooth
and practical on slide animation than Prezi. One can easily become proficient in Prezi s transitions
with its major feature of a giant canvass where one can zoom around in the information organized
spatially which is much suitable for presenting information that is spatially related. Prezi s
organization of content diagrammatically or around large photos however is adversely viewed
with frames that are spatially related whether this makes sense or not. One can easily relate to
motion sickness in the swirling movements as zooming around the page, rotating text or the
arrangement of content over large distances process adds to the confusion as to why the photos are
related to each other. Prezi

The Bell Curve argues that IQ can determine the success of a person, and it can vary in between
races. Others such as Gould, believe that the IQ test is inadequate due to the fact that it is not based
on life circumstances. The main controversy after the bell curve was published was whether the
authors were racist and if intelligencewas determined by race. Critics have since proven that the

Essay #5
31 July 2011 Gun Control and Mental Illness
In the United States, our society is increasingly faced with situations that further enhance the idea
that guns, particularly in the hands of the wrong people, are responsible for a great deal of harm.
Aside from the problem of criminals obtaining guns we now are dealing with gun control and how
it applies to the mentally ill. Many Americans pose an argument against gun control, claiming that
their rights override the constant danger and threats posed by weapons. There has been an on

should take place on the breakdown of our mental health services in this country.
Anyone who believes strengthening the gun control laws would reduce violence is correct.
However, if someone wants to kill someone, not having a gun is unfortunately not going to stop
him or her. If a gun is not accessible, a person who wishes to kill someone will use another
weapon that is accessible such as a knife or some other type of bludgeon object. Banning guns
will lessen gun violence, but will bring a rise in violence with other weapons. Bruce Shapiro, a
Nation contributing editor points out that the country has to reevaluate on how we are treating
patients with mental disorders. When they are discharged from correctional facilities and hospitals
and expected to exist in society with no follow up services to help them, this is a reflection of the
poor knowledge society has about people with mental health issues (The Nation 4).

The Theoretical Approach to Family Therapy
My theoretical approach to family therapy is very integrative as I believe families cannot be
described nor treated from a single school approach. I view humans through a humanistic and
existential lens but am more technically structural and solution based. With this integrative
approach, I believe I will be the most effective in helping families grow and reach their goals.
Children enter the world as part of preexisting systems. They enter parental systems and families
that already have rules, roles and boundaries, and more are made as children grow and the family
develops. These transitions can be confusing and challenging for all members involved leading to
feelings of fear, anger and even helplessness. Members within the family... Show more content on

My own personal experience plays a part here as I don t believe my family was ever fully
actualized. Independence and autonomy was stressed, however, warmth and connectedness
between members was not. Feelings were definitely suppressed in my household growing up,
and even today sharing openly feels awkward. Whitaker, as well as Satir, has inspired my
theoretical framework because I see the importance of the affective or emotional layer of family
interactions. The goal for therapy should be to create a second order of change. My therapy goals
are heavily rooted in solution based therapy. In this sense, the goal of therapy is to unstick people
from their current patterns and perceptions and help them discover new, concrete possibilities for
their immediate futures (Bitter, 2009, p. 223) Goal making in my eyes is a collaborative process
between therapist and client. It s the therapist s role to engage the client in optimistic conversations
about the present and future and guide them toward goal oriented solutions. This type of approach
fits my personality as I am naturally upbeat and look for the positive exceptions in situations. Steve
de Shazer believed that effective goals are: small; meaningful to the client; described concretely; fit
the actual lives of the participants; require in them that they are working hard; and start something

World War 2 was a gruesome war that had a terrible outcome. Millions of people were killed.
Cities were destroyed. Countries were bankrupted. During this war, the US played a significant

important happening in this was not necessarily a slow moving conquering, but a date. This day

This caused the US to take action. The US came up with a very clever strategy to get back at
Japan. They knew that the bombing of Pearl Harbor had a very heavy emotional tone on
Americans so they knew they needed to bomb Japan back. However, US bombers could not
make it across the Pacific Ocean. So, the US came up with an idea to defeat many islands in the
Philippines while slowly creeping towards Japan. This idea was then called Operation Cartwheel .
The first objective of the US in Operation Cartwheel was to take Guadalcanal in the Solomon
Islands of the Philippines. On August 7, 1942, the US Marines invaded the islands after naval
preparatory shelling. They landed on the north beaches which were east of the Tenaru River. For
three months they suffered from diseases such as: diarrhea, dysentery, malaria, and skin fungus. But
they still managed to take over an airfield. At the end of

Advantages And Limitations Of Behaviourism
Learning had been widely discussed among the researchers. It had become the subject matter that
interests psychologists, educationists, scientists and came up with a number of learning theories.
There are many different theories that attempt to describe the learning process. The theorists came
out with some methods and approaches to be applied in the language teaching in the classroom.
Approaches consist of specific principles in the language teaching and to apply these approaches,
methods are needed which include various procedures and techniques. In this coursework, I would
discuss on two theories, methods and approaches, two of their strength and limitations. In addition,
I would further discuss on the implementation of one of the theories in the English language
classroom. 2.0 THEORY OF BEHAVIOURISM The behaviourism theory had its origin in the early
twentieth century. It was introduced by one of the most prominent psychologists in that era, B.F.
Skinner. There are several psychologists such as Thorndike, Pavlov and Watson believed that by
studying the animal s behavior, they could predict and explain... Show more content on

Cognitivists such as Noam Chomsky (1957) in psycholinguistics and by Bruner, Goodnow and
Austin (1956) in concept learning were some of the examples (Ormrod, 1990). Cognitivism theory
implied that learning is a dynamic process, complicated and multi faceted. According to Chomsky
(1957) in Ormrod (1990), human s mind are like a black box , it attempts to understands the way
information is received, assimilated, stored and recalled. The theory of cognitivism is beneficial as
it focuses on the students mental ability to think, analyze and organize knowledge. This theory

Trial Separation Essay
When clients ask their attorney for advice on legal separation, they are made aware of what is
called trial separation . This is a length of time allowed for both parties to clear their minds away
from the other spouse. It is considered to be a break from the normal situation of marriage where
often problems can begin to build up when not resolved properly and quickly. Perhaps this trial
separation gives each party the opportunity to identify what is wrong and what is salvageable in
their marriage. This can be a good thing to prevent jumping into the legal arena and filing for a
divorce(which can be quite expensive). However, there are many pitfalls both parties must be made
aware of that can cause them much grief at a later time should they... Show more content on

Avoid sharing the facts of your trial separation on any social media to avoid becoming the hot
topic of the day. The advice you receive may not be in your best interest or the best interest of
your marriage. 2) The sanctity of your home must be protected at all costs. Moving out
temporarily may seem to be a viable solution, but it will affect your chances of retaining equal
time with your children or your valued belongings. Rarely do we find a case where moving out
was beneficial in any way to either party. Living in separate homes and attempting to share time
with the children usually does not work out well. Moving out could appear to a judge as
evidence that you have given up on the marriage as well as your relationship with your children
or even with your own belongings. 3) A trial separation can create an entirely different marital
situation. The bills still need to be paid and the home maintained as well as the regular household
bills whether or one or both spouses still live in the home. An agreement of the separation of bills
should be discussed between the spouses to set up a feasible schedule of bill paying with both
parties participating. Perhaps the at home spouse should seek outside employment in case of a
divorce in the future. If the breadwinner continues taking care of all the financial needs of the home
and family, it shows that the ability is there to continue with alimony in the case of

Travel And Tourism Essay
According to Statista, a website that provide the statistic and study from more than 18,00 sources

addition, they predict that the number will grow up to 2.6 trillion USD by 2027. Annually, travel
and tourismdirectly provides about 5.5 million jobs for American people.

Therefore, sustainable tourism should include 3 aspects. First of all, we should make optimal use of
environmental resources in order to developing and maintaining essential ecological processes. It
also helps to conserve natural heritage and biodiversity. Secondly, we should respect the socio
cultural of host communities by conserving their built and living cultural heritage. Moreover, we
also should respect their traditional value, and contribute to inter cultural understanding. Lastly, we
should consider the long term economic operations by providing socio economic benefits to all
stakeholders that are distributed. We should create stable employment for local people and
opportunities to earn income. In addition, we also need to provide some social services to host
community to help them maintain their property.
Based on the definition of mass tourism and sustainable tourism, we could say that mass tourism is
unsustainable. Anna Pollock from the article Six Reason Why Mass Tourism Is Unsustainable have
come up with six reasons to prove that mass tourism is unsustainable. The first reason is because
one product is substitutable for another. The mass tourism about distribution and consumption of
packaged products. When the local people see the tourist interesting in something, they will focus
more on that product and cut back from the other product. Therefore, that will destroy the balance
and it can destroy a culture. The

Personal Synonyms Of Bullying
You are at the end of your rope, and you can t take it any much longer. You are in pain, and you
are suffering, and you feel there is no hope. The first thing that you need to do is to seek the
services of a professional counsellor .
Suicide, the action of killing oneself intentionally. Synonyms of suicide, self destruction, self
murder and self slaughter. Imagine this. Having a best friend since the year 2004, who is so
unhappy with their life. They felt as though they couldn t continue. Imagine this. Receiving a phone
call from your best friends mother saying that your best friend has been admitted into hospital from
an overdose on multiple prescription medications. Imagine this. The feelings and thoughts running
through your head as you run down to your car and speed towards the hospital only to get there
and not be allowed in because you aren t immediate family.
Roughly 3 years ago I was in this situation. I had no idea that my best friend hated herself as a
person, was being bullied so badly to the point that she felt as though that her life wasn t worth
living anymore. She buried her sadness inside herself and talked to her notepad instead of a
human. I found this notepad. I read this notepad. I flipped through the pages with violent words
screaming at me. Sexual assault, drugs, alcohol, bullying, domestic violence. I now knew why she
tried to leave this world, but she was yet to experience the radiant and joyful life that she had
helped me experience.

Judith Beveridge Speech Essay
Judith Beveridge is a poet of great detail. Her poems are written with strong use of language.
Strong imagery of her observations and contrasts of her views help create her poems meaning and
effect on the reader. Beveridge s texts are valuable to the understanding of human and nature s
precious life, and her appreciation for life in all. Through her two poems the domesticity of Giraffes
and the streetsof Chippendale these both communicate her ideas and values the strongest.
One of Beveridge s strongest values is of life, in the domesticity of giraffes this is displayed from
the first sentence of the second stanza. I think of her graceful on her plain Beveridge puts herself

Life in Chippendale is rough, alcoholic and sad. Beveridge uses juxtaposition to contrast the names
of the streets with what they sound to be. Abercrombie sounds like the eccentric unmarried third

alcoholic, causing trouble and disturbance. There is so much violence, as though men are fighting

Essay Comparing Krystina And Harvey Freedman
At the start of World War II, German soldiers took over Denmark, throwing Jews into the
concentration camps. In the year of 1942, Krystyna Chiger and Pavel Freedman were both
escaping the Ghetto. They both were in Poland, wanting freedom for this occasion. They were
both Jewish and tried to escape in different ways. Krystina went into the sewers and Pavel
Freedman died in the concentration camp. 6 in a half million people died in the Holocaust. Krystina
shared her story by a personal narrative and Pavel wrote a poem. First, both of the pieces of
writing were both in the perspective of themselves. They both are describing how they were treated
during this torture. They both were treated like animals, which causes them to abhor how they were

Creating An Effective Working Environment And...
The three learner profile attributes that I believe are most important in creating an effective
working environment and collaborative team are open minded, communicator and inquirer.
They will need to be open minded learners because to properly adapt to new situations, and new
environments with different people they ll have to understand there s more than one way to do
things which ll help them become better leaders. This will benefit the team, because everyone
will learn from each other and their different cultures. They ll learn from the places they ll be
visiting and they ll all get the chance to see the world from different points of view. As they do
this they will be trying new experiences together which will help them become closer and will let
them build on previous ideas by using the knowledge they ve gained from the new experiences. For
these reasons, being open minded will help the team be more successful. ... Show more content on

Sex Trafficking In Texas
One of the growing issues in our society is sex trafficking. Sex Trafficking is a hidden crime
because victims rarely come forward to seek help due to language barriers, fear of the
traffickers, and they do not know where or who to turn too. These young girls are lured into
prostitution by force, fraud, or promises of a better life. Sex Trafficking is a serious crime that
often goes overlooked because people are uncomfortable with the issue, and are not sure how to
fight it. This issue can be found even at our own back door. The same interstate many Lamar
Orange students use is the same one sex traffickers use to transport their victims. One in every five
victims of human traffickingin the U.S. travels through Texas along Interstate ten. (Texas... Show

Sex traffickers use violence, threats, lies, debt bondage, and other forms of coercion to compel
adults and children to engage in commercial sex acts against their will. (Polaris Project) In the
area of organized crime, sex trafficking is one of the fastest growing businesses. The Texas
Department of Public Safety issued statistics that approximately 100,000 children are estimated
to be in the sex trade in the united states each year. Texas had the second highest incoming
trafficking tips in 2013. These incoming tips totaled 2,236 calls, emails, and tip forms. As of
June 2015 there has been 833 calls and 214 cases reported. These numbers are expected to
double before the end of the year. Houston is known to be one of the largest cities for sex
trafficking. This makes interstate 10, which runs through Houston, one of the main routes for sex
traffickers. Due to interstate 10 passing straight through the golden triangle, Beaumont, Port
Arthur, and Orange have seen a rise in sex trafficking victims. (8 12) It is important to note that
the actual number of sex trafficked individuals is higher than what has been reported due to the
secret nature of the crime. Many victims never come forward because of fear, age, and a lack of
realization that they are being used as sex

A Peaceful Evacuation Essay
Running head: LEADERSHIP STYLES IN A PEACEFUL EVACUATION2
According to Vance Packard, leadership appears to be the art of getting others to want to do
something that you are convinced should be done (Lewis, 2003). Leadership is a pertinent part of
project management. James Lewis (2003) says leadership is not a position; it s the ability to gain
commitment from people. According to Professor Warren G. Bennis, Leaders are people who do
the right thing; managers are people who do things right . The importance of leadership in a
project is demonstrated in the case study, A Peaceful Evacuation: Building a Multi Project Team
Battalion by Leading Upward . This case study involves two leaders, who had similar, but mostly,

An example of this leadership style is when Daniel gathered other Israeli Defense Forces (IDF)
psychologists for a day of thinking together, with the objective of expressing and listening to their
different opinions about potential problems that may arise in the evacuation project (Laufer, 2012).
Daniel s strategy was to brainstorm to identify key issues and mitigate risks. He felt that
preparation was the key to completing the mission. Daniel also used the term we , instead of I . His
group of psychologists worked as team to identify how to execute the mission according to the
government s guidelines while ensuring that the damage incurred during the evacuation itself
would be minimal. Lieutenant Colonel Yaron displayed two types of leadership styles: directive
and participative. Directive style is telling people what to do and expecting them to jump right to
it. It is one of the oldest styles and frequently called autocratic. Yaron was accustomed to being
lead with this style so, in turn; he used the same leadership style to lead. Yaron was very hands on
and encouraged the battalion s company commanders to initiate ongoing meetings with their
soldiers. Yaron met, called and emailed with some of the top officers in the air force. He made
immediate inquiries with the top colonels through face to face meetings, telephone calls, and

Structural Strain Theory
Sociology can be looked at and studied in many different ways. Sociology is usually split into
many different places so that sociologists can look at one individual group instead of everyone
together. This is a society. A society is an organised group of people. Sociologists study these
groups to get more accurate information. One thing that sociologists look at when they look at
these societies is the deviance of the group. Deviance is anything that goes against social norms
of a specific place. Deviance varies depending on time and location of the specific group the
sociologists are studying. A norm is a set of expected behaviors for a given role and social status.
Deviance is a magnificent part of sociology. Deviance is any behavior,... Show more content on

The Strain Theory asserts that people commit deviant acts when the strain of society becomes
too much for the person to handle. Often their deviance is due to their feelings of anomie,
meaningless, due to not understanding how the social norms affect them. This is usually
because the norms are are confusing or weak. There is a social consensus in society about
socially approved achievements and goals. This consensus tells what one should strive for in
order to achieve according to society. Society places these certain goals that all people of that
society try to pursue. These people either have to work in the structure that society has made or
if the pressure is too much they will turn to deviant acts in an attempt to achieve those goals.
When there is a gap between the person s current standing in society and the overall goal society
has created based on The Strain Theory people will act upon this gap in five different ways:
Conformity, innovation, ritualism, retreatism, and rebellion. Conformity is the acceptance of
the cultural goals and means of attaining those goals. This is the way a normal person would go
about to achieve the goals set by society. Innovation is the acceptance of the goals of a culture
but the rejection of the traditional and legitimate means of attaining those goals, e.g, a drug
dealer accepts the goals he has to accomplish but society does not necessarily agree with those
goals. This is how one completes a goal set by society but does not necessarily go the normal
way to do it. Ritualism is the rejection of cultural goals but the routinized acceptance of the way
of achieving those goals. For example, A man who has a wife and family is a hard worker and
makes an average income. He believes that money is not everything and is more happy with his
family life. He knows that it is unlikely that he will ever become rich but he is happy with that and

Should 16 Year Olds Be Able To Vote
Due to the society we live in today I personally believe that 16 year olds should be able to vote.
For one, they are given the responsibility to drive, pay taxes, and can be charged with a criminal
defense as an adult. With that being said they are being treated like an adult. Also, at that age
you as an individual know what is best for yourself and others of your age group. This can go as
far as gun ownership which is a problem in some countries, minimum wage as they are the prime
age group that is being affected, as well as education as it affects them in the future and other
generations behind them. Lastly, it would give a greater say in what other generations have to
think about who is leading and area or country. Do you still believe 16 year olds shouldn t vote?
The legal working age in Canada is 14, however the age where most teens are hired is 16.
Working teens at 16 are asked to contribute to their countries wealth by paying taxes. Paying taxes
shows that they are responsible enough to manage their own income and still 16 year olds are seen
as too immature to vote. In a article on the C.D.C website it states, Children at ... Show more

18 years of age no matter their gender. Lowering the voting age gives a better say in what other

over many years can lead to no change and we live to same way for many years. Also by having
different generations and age groups vote, it shows the future of a country thorough what the
younger generations are voting for. Lastly, most of the younger generations have more knowledge
about technology and how they can use that for better and to know what they are voting for. They
know what is right for them and can prove that by what they are voting

Who Is Justinian Recreate The Byzantine Empire
The Byzantine Empire, or the eastern Roman Empire, was formed in the year 330 after Roman
Emperor Constantine I moved the seat of the Roman government to the city of Constantinople. It
was designated a second Rome, and had the advantage of being located on an Asian Eurpoean trade
route and on the Bosporus Strait, which made it incredibly hard to sack or besiege, since water
surrounded half of the city. Constantinoplewas also free from any corruption and political
assassination, which made governing easier to do and to manage as well. When the western Roman
Empirecollapsed in the year 476, the eastern half remained intact, and it remained relatively stable
until Emperor Justinian came to power. Emperor Justinian was Emperor of the Byzantine Empirein
the mid sixth century, from 527 to 565, and headed his empire s notable renovatio imperii, or
restoration of the Empire during that time. Justinian devoted his reign to reclaim the lost western
half of the Roman Empire, and recreate it through military conquest and social reform. The
military conquest was to expand the Byzantine Empire so it reached the farthest extent of the
Roman Empire, which was around the early second century, while the social reform was to
recreate the Roman law that once applied during the height of the Roman Empire. So, these
questions must be posed: How did Emperor Justinian attempt to reform and recreate the Roman
Empire, and what did he do to restore it? Were his legislative and social reforms

In fact, evidence suggests that his interactions and associations could be the reason that led to
the shooting at the O.K. Corral [2]. Essentially, Doc Holliday was friends with a William
Leonard, who was later implicated in an attempted stagecoach robbery, that resulted in the death
of two of three passengers. Prior to this event, Holliday had had a number of run ins with an
individual by the name of Milt Joyce. A number of times Holliday was arrested and taken to
court for assault. These charges were often dropped after Holliday paid court fees and the fines
associated. Because of these confrontations and Holliday s relationship with Leonard, Holliday
was accused of being a part of the gang (who mostly consisted of members of the Cowboy gang)
who attempted to rob the stagecoach. To clear Holliday s name, the Earps (Wyatt, Virgil and
Morgan) formed a posse that hunted down the other members of the gang. To find some of the
men that could clear Holliday s name, Wyatt made a deal with Ike Clanton (a known Cowboy
member), Wyatt would give Ike the reward money for the outlaws, if Ike would give
information regarding their whereabouts[2]. Ike Clanton, on the other hand, denied such a deal
occurring. He said that Wyatt approached him, but he [Ike] would have nothing to do with the
deal [1]. When the outlaws were found, they (allegedly) resisted arrest and the outlaws in the
party who could clear Holliday s name were killed. Ike grew restless and fearing that the
Cowboys would hear about his deal with Wyatt [2]. Ike accused Wyatt of sharing their plan with
Holliday. Ike confronted Wyatt and later Holliday. Virgil broke up the confrontation between
Holliday and Ike, and while Holliday went to his hotel for the night, Ike continued to drink through
to sunset. At this point Ike was looking to instigate a fight with Holliday and Wyatt. Wyatt and
Virgil stopped Ike as he was walking down the

  • 2. Skin Color Detection Skin color detection is considered one of the most popular techniques of segmentation and tracking because of its simplicity. The idea behind using this technique is that skin color is different from other object s color and then can be used to identify human gesture part. There are several color spaces such as RGB, YIQ, YUV, and generic color model that are used to distinguish skin pixels from non skin pixels through comparing a predefined skin color model (skin pixels) with pixels of the input image. Figure 2 shows skin color technique using YIQ and YUV color spaces. Thermal camera is an infrared camera that is able to detect infrared radiation emitted from the human body (temperature). It can determine the human gesture region depending on the human temperature while background is neglected. Figure 3 shows human interaction captured by thermal camera. This technique is used to track and detect moving gesture parts depending on the difference between two or three consecutive video frames. The pervious image (frame) is subtracted from the current image (frame) in order to obtain the moving part. A.Background subtraction The idea behind this technique is to set a background as a reference or model and then compare the current frame with the reference background in a pixel by pixel manner to detect the moving foreground object. The background model is updated with a new image from time to time in order to track dynamic changes. Figure 4 shows background subtraction ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. ##s And Weaknesses And Strengths Of Rudy Giuliani Like all famous leaders, Rudy Giuliani had his fair share of strengths and weaknesses. Giuliani showed the country and the world what true leadership was in the wake of 9/11. During a time of crisis, he demonstrated courageousness, dedication and composure. Even though Giuliani is mostly remembered for his strengths, his weaknesses are usually overlooked. He was criticized for being unfaithful and allowing lust to break up his marriage. Another weakness of Giuliani was his inconsistency to reprimand his policeforce. Giuliani was a man of positivity. No matter the situation, Giuliani always looked at the positive side of things and didn t allow his emotions to get the best of him. This strength of his leadership style stemmed from the core values his father taught him. In an interview with Barbara Walters, Giuliani talked about what his father taught him. Giuliani explained that his father had taught him how to act during a crisis: When there is a crisis going on, the most important thing is to be calmer. If everybody s getting very upset and very emotional, the best way to figure out your way through it is to actually become calmer and relax more. He understood that when in a time of uncertainty, being calm was the key. Another key strength of Giuliani was how he was a natural born leader. NYPD Commissioner William Bratton commented on Giuliani s natural born leadership. I ve seen the mayor in many instances during the time I worked with him as police commissioner ... The cold and the awkward conversation with the man dressed as a beggar had made them feel as tired as a pair of work horses at dusk. I m for an early night, said Carolina. I could sleep, too, but I have to attend that meeting. And I need to be as sharp as a razor. Let s just have a quiet snooze. You ll be brighter after a nap. The two of them made their way to Carolina s room, cuddled up to each other, fully clothed, and fell asleep. They were awoken by the neighing sound of a horse outside the inn. Fearing trouble if he did not respond as told, Antonio took his violin from its case and struck up the tune of To Amirillis . This was no random choice. He hoped the tune would smoke out the man dressed as a beggar, if he were there, and sure enough... Thought you said you didn t know it! shouted a disembodied voice from somewhere near the middle of the crowd, most of whom were on their feet. The source gradually made his way to the front, pushing his way past about a dozen or so others as he did so. Antonio hardly recognised him. The beggar had said as much. Gone were the pantaloons tied with string, the chest exposing open shirt, the battered hat and bare feet. Now he was dressed in a new, brown tricorne, a long black coat over black leather boots and a white shirt, decorated by a smart, black silk tie. He d trimmed his ragged beard to a neat point and shaped his moustache to a rakish, symmetrical upward curve on each side of his face. Antonio could smell the musky perfume on his subtle umber wig which almost matched his darker, brown hair. No. It s just the words we don t know. We know the tune well! smiled Antonio, wondering what the man s reaction would be and still unsure as to what his exact position could be in this confusion of masculine sweat and untidiness. His demeanour and countenance gave him an air of superiority over these other apparently inferior individuals. I m so glad you could attend ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. A Brief Note On The Water Treatment Systems Water treatment systems The groundwater source is from GoldCentury gold mine, whereby excess groundwater is pumped out of mine at a maximum volumetric flow rate of 477L/s. It contains contaminants such as volatile organic compounds (VOCs), heavy metal impurities, sulphates, bicarbonates, microorganisms, dissolved minerals and objectionable gases, but focuses on the removal of dissolved inorganic contaminants such as calcium and iron. The most prevalent dissolved minerals which are Calcium and Magnesium, also known as hardness, can be removed by precipitation, requiring softening steps. The purification system designed is based more on efficiency over cost effectiveness. The purpose of treating the groundwater in this assignment, is to purify it to drinking standards to hydrate mineworkers underground during heated, intense mine work operations, and for operating certain equipment and tools. Figure 1: Mine groundwater treatment plant schematic Figure 1 shows the following unit operations: A settling tank is installed to allow large particles such as to settle so that they can easily be removed. The retention time is around 30 minutes or 0.5 hours. Aeration removes excess and objectable gases. A packed tower stripping system is used which removes 99.95% (or 179.91mg/L) of VOCs. This process also reduces the pH of the water and has a retention time of 22.716 minutes (0.3786hr). Chemical precipitation is performed on larger molecules which make up the suspended solids ... America is viewed as a land where all things are possible and people can achieve all their hopes and dreams. Although this is a simple concept, how one must work to achieve these goals is much more complicated. Everyone is born into a different situation and the opportunities they are exposed to differ depending on the person. Many veterans were able to get a home with a low mortgage due to the GI Bill, a benefit program to help cover costs of veterans, and the American Dream became closely tied to home ownership. The ideal dream continued to change and many Americans purchased products and good that they believed would improve their life. After the dream moved on from home ownership, it turned into a need for the latest products. Middle class Americans, however, did not have enough money to purchase the new trend. In 1950, the first credit card was introduced and as time went on it became more popular than ever. Americans were thrilled with the idea of owning everything they could imagine without having the money to do so; however, many people racked up a large amount of debt. In addition to the debt, America faced a mortgage crisis in the early 2000 s. The American Dream came crashing down for many and their once happy lives were now full of stress, yet they believed there was hope for a better life. Despite having the idea of a better life many Americans today feel as if they cannot achieve the American Dream. The WHO estimates that 4070% of the global burden from this disease is attributable to sun exposure. A study conducted in Victoria reported that 43.6% of pterygium cases were attributable to sun exposure. * Age related macular degeneration: Based on laboratory studies showing thatUV rays cause retinal damage in rats, scientists believe that exposure to UV rays contributes to the degeneration of eyesight which occurs naturally with ageing. How UVR Impacts the Eye The various tissue layers of the eye absorb the wavebands of UVR to different extents. The longer the wavelength, the deeper the penetration of ocular tissue. Of the radiation from sunlight, UV B has the greatest impact on the eye. Overexposure can result in photokeratitis or, in rare cases, solar maculopathy. Studies show that chronic exposure to UV B can also cause cortical cataracts. UV A is considered a greater threat to produce skin cancer than damage the eye. While the ozone layer filters UV C from the sun, a welder s arc can generate toxic dosages of this potent waveband.

It is very common for the Japanese to go out after work to bars, karaoke s, or restaurants. If you are invited you should make an effort to go, as good relationships with those whom you work with are important. The well being of the group is always placed above the individual in their culture. Discussion of Wordsworth s repudiation of the picturesque III. Pinpointing elements of the picturesque in Tintern Abbey IV. Discussion of Wordsworth s use of the picturesque as a rhetorical device I. Define and Discuss Picturesque The concept of the picturesque came out of a need for a label for that gray area between the sublime (founded on pain and terror) and the beautiful (founded on feelings of pleasure). The only common definition of the term is, as Gilpin writes, that kind of beauty which would look well in a picture (Watson 11). As... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... All of these divisions are to be described individually, but with an eye to the effect of the whole. According to Gilpin, nature is intrinsically whole, but is of such a vast scale, our mere human experience of the parts cannot comprehend this inherent harmony. This lack gives the artist license to modify the real scene in order to express wholeness according to his or her rules of composition (Watson 44). Thus, although it is based on real stations with real views, the search for the picturesque becomes a quest for an ideal, generic landscape the landscape of the painted postcards from the grand tour. II. Discuss Wordsworth s repudiation of the picturesque As is argued by David Miall, Nicola Trott, WJB Owen, and J. Watson, Wordsworth repeatedly repudiates the concept of the picturesque. Within Tintern Abbey specifically, he equates it with his own immaturity in relation to nature. He writes that in 1793, when he first visited Tintern: I came among these hills, when like a roe I bounded o er the mountains by the sides Of the deep rivers and the lonely streams Wherever nature led, more like a man Flying from something that he dreads than one Who sought the thing he loved. Sometimes, these cravings can be a sign of something wrong internally. Did you know that craving items that are not food is a disorder? Many do not. The name of this craving disorder is called Pica.(Lackey, Carolyn J, 2013) Pica got its name from the Latin language. In Latin, Pica means magpie. Magpie is a bird that eats literally everything. In a month s span, one could ingest many different items of non food. (Just think about how much you will eat on just a daily basis, and imagine the amount of nonfood items people eat!) Some of these nonfood items those with this disorder may consume are: dirt, animal feces, cigarette butts, matches, clay, paint, ice, sand, and even hairballs. (Barkoukis, 2008).... Popular Support In Julius Caesar Essay Popular support and the distribution of power are two intertwining concepts that are prominent in Nicolo Machiavelli s 16th century treatise, The Prince, and Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare, of the same era. While Machiavelli s treatise served to provide a practical guide to a reigning prince and Shakespeare s play served to entertain an Elizabethan audience, both composers examine different perspectives of popular support and the distribution of power. Caesar s power is distributed amongst characters including Antony, Brutus and Octavian, and as such, his own individual power is weakened, giving Brutus and the conspirators the opportunity to rebel against him. However, while Brutus and the conspirators successfully murder Caesar, Antony and Octavian emerge as the victors at the Battle at Philippi, suggesting that ultimately Caesar s spirit and rule lives in the noblemen who support him. The recurring supernatural imagery of Caesar s spirit in both Brutus tent prior to the battle in Act 4 Scene 3 and on the battlefield conveyed by Brutus in Act 5 Scene 5, suggests that Caesar s spirit not only metaphorically perpetuates but also literally appears in front of Brutus. I feel that more emphasis should take place on the breakdown of our mental health services in this country. Anyone who believes strengthening the gun control laws would reduce violence is correct. However, if someone wants to kill someone, not having a gun is unfortunately not going to stop him or her. If a gun is not accessible, a person who wishes to kill someone will use another weapon that is accessible such as a knife or some other type of bludgeon object. Banning guns will lessen gun violence, but will bring a rise in violence with other weapons. Bruce Shapiro, a Nation contributing editor points out that the country has to reevaluate on how we are treating patients with mental disorders. When they are discharged from correctional facilities and hospitals and expected to exist in society with no follow up services to help them, this is a reflection of the poor knowledge society has about people with mental health issues (The Nation 4). • 39. The Theoretical Approach to Family Therapy My theoretical approach to family therapy is very integrative as I believe families cannot be described nor treated from a single school approach. I view humans through a humanistic and existential lens but am more technically structural and solution based. With this integrative approach, I believe I will be the most effective in helping families grow and reach their goals. Children enter the world as part of preexisting systems. They enter parental systems and families that already have rules, roles and boundaries, and more are made as children grow and the family develops. These transitions can be confusing and challenging for all members involved leading to feelings of fear, anger and even helplessness. Members within the family... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... My own personal experience plays a part here as I don t believe my family was ever fully actualized. Independence and autonomy was stressed, however, warmth and connectedness between members was not. Feelings were definitely suppressed in my household growing up, and even today sharing openly feels awkward. Whitaker, as well as Satir, has inspired my theoretical framework because I see the importance of the affective or emotional layer of family interactions. The goal for therapy should be to create a second order of change. My therapy goals are heavily rooted in solution based therapy. In this sense, the goal of therapy is to unstick people from their current patterns and perceptions and help them discover new, concrete possibilities for their immediate futures (Bitter, 2009, p. 223) Goal making in my eyes is a collaborative process between therapist and client. It s the therapist s role to engage the client in optimistic conversations about the present and future and guide them toward goal oriented solutions. This type of approach fits my personality as I am naturally upbeat and look for the positive exceptions in situations. Steve de Shazer believed that effective goals are: small; meaningful to the client; described concretely; fit the actual lives of the participants; require in them that they are working hard; and start something ... During this war, the US played a significant role. The US had a major strategy called Island Hopping, in which the US would take over islands in the Philippines while slowly moving towards striking distance of Japan. Another important happening in this was not necessarily a slow moving conquering, but a date. This day was D Day. A few years in through World War 2, the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. This caused the US to take action. The US came up with a very clever strategy to get back at Japan. They knew that the bombing of Pearl Harbor had a very heavy emotional tone on Americans so they knew they needed to bomb Japan back. However, US bombers could not make it across the Pacific Ocean. So, the US came up with an idea to defeat many islands in the Philippines while slowly creeping towards Japan. This idea was then called Operation Cartwheel . The first objective of the US in Operation Cartwheel was to take Guadalcanal in the Solomon Islands of the Philippines. On August 7, 1942, the US Marines invaded the islands after naval preparatory shelling. They landed on the north beaches which were east of the Tenaru River. For three months they suffered from diseases such as: diarrhea, dysentery, malaria, and skin fungus. But they still managed to take over an airfield. At the end of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It had become the subject matter that interests psychologists, educationists, scientists and came up with a number of learning theories. There are many different theories that attempt to describe the learning process. The theorists came out with some methods and approaches to be applied in the language teaching in the classroom. Approaches consist of specific principles in the language teaching and to apply these approaches, methods are needed which include various procedures and techniques. Sociology is usually split into many different places so that sociologists can look at one individual group instead of everyone together. This is a society. A society is an organised group of people. Sociologists study these groups to get more accurate information. One thing that sociologists look at when they look at these societies is the deviance of the group. Deviance is anything that goes against social norms of a specific place. Deviance varies depending on time and location of the specific group the sociologists are studying. A norm is a set of expected behaviors for a given role and social status. Deviance is a magnificent part of sociology. Deviance is any behavior,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Strain Theory asserts that people commit deviant acts when the strain of society becomes too much for the person to handle. Often their deviance is due to their feelings of anomie, meaningless, due to not understanding how the social norms affect them. This is usually because the norms are are confusing or weak. There is a social consensus in society about socially approved achievements and goals. This consensus tells what one should strive for in order to achieve according to society. Society places these certain goals that all people of that society try to pursue. These people either have to work in the structure that society has made or if the pressure is too much they will turn to deviant acts in an attempt to achieve those goals. When there is a gap between the person s current standing in society and the overall goal society has created based on The Strain Theory people will act upon this gap in five different ways: Conformity, innovation, ritualism, retreatism, and rebellion. Conformity is the acceptance of the cultural goals and means of attaining those goals. This is the way a normal person would go about to achieve the goals set by society. Innovation is the acceptance of the goals of a culture but the rejection of the traditional and legitimate means of attaining those goals, e.g, a drug dealer accepts the goals he has to accomplish but society does not necessarily agree with those goals. This is how one completes a goal set by society but does not necessarily go the normal way to do it. Ritualism is the rejection of cultural goals but the routinized acceptance of the way of achieving those goals. • 54. Who Is Justinian Recreate The Byzantine Empire The Byzantine Empire, or the eastern Roman Empire, was formed in the year 330 after Roman Emperor Constantine I moved the seat of the Roman government to the city of Constantinople. It was designated a second Rome, and had the advantage of being located on an Asian Eurpoean trade route and on the Bosporus Strait, which made it incredibly hard to sack or besiege, since water surrounded half of the city. Constantinoplewas also free from any corruption and political assassination, which made governing easier to do and to manage as well. When the western Roman Empirecollapsed in the year 476, the eastern half remained intact, and it remained relatively stable until Emperor Justinian came to power. Emperor Justinian was Emperor of the Byzantine Empirein the mid sixth century, from 527 to 565, and headed his empire s notable renovatio imperii, or restoration of the Empire during that time. Justinian devoted his reign to reclaim the lost western half of the Roman Empire, and recreate it through military conquest and social reform. The military conquest was to expand the Byzantine Empire so it reached the farthest extent of the Roman Empire, which was around the early second century, while the social reform was to recreate the Roman law that once applied during the height of the Roman Empire. Prior to this event, Holliday had had a number of run ins with an individual by the name of Milt Joyce. A number of times Holliday was arrested and taken to court for assault.
