Mutations can affect people with diabetes in several ways. Different types of mutations like point mutations, frameshift mutations, deletions, insertions, and inversions can all disrupt insulin production and lead to diabetes. Common symptoms of diabetes include excessive thirst, hunger, weight changes, nausea, infections, and slow healing wounds. Type 1 diabetes is caused by no insulin production while Type 2 is caused by insulin resistance or deficiency. Gestational diabetes occurs during pregnancy. Mutations are one cause of the disease that can lead to serious health complications like kidney disease, blindness, heart disease and increased risk of death if not properly managed.
