The trailer Disturbia starts off with the
equilibrium (following Toderovs Theory). Kale is a
typical teenager who has been portrayed as a bit
of a rebel seeing that he is on house
arrest, eventually kale gets bored so he decides to
spy on the girls next door to him when he then
stumbles upon something terrifying (Disruption
of equilibrium).
Kale then try’s to find out why his neighbor is
killing people… which then leads to the fast
paced, high tempo shots
At this point in time the enigma codes are starting
to build up causing the audience to want to watch
more.
Why is he on house arrest?
What’s caused his neighbor to start killing The editing within the disturbia trailer varies
people? depending on the tempo of the music as the tempo
Why is he doing it? raises the shots then become more frequent building
Why is it only women are being targeted? suspense and tension. Also the lighting within the
trailer has been used to set the tone and mood of the
scene for example when the boy gets arrested by the
police the serial killer has light which has been
projected from a low angle connoting evil and power.

The trailer use voiceovers throughout the trailer this
has been done so that the person who is narrating can
give a audience a brief understanding of what’s going
on also the use of non diagetic sound has been targeted
for teenagers seeing as it was played when they got
caught spying on their neighbor in a bikini. As the trailer
progresses the tempo of the music raises to keep up
with the shots this is creating tension and suspense for
the audience.
The narrative of the trailer is kale the
character played by the actor ShiaLaBeouf gets
in trouble with the police which suggests that
he is an rebel which the audience can relate to
is on house arrest. This gives a hint that the
film’s target audience is aimed at
teenagers, once being locked in his house kale
then decides to spy on his neighbors being a
bit cheeky, but then he discovers something
that changes everything.
He finds out that his neighbor is an serial killer
who only targets women or people who get in
his way as his soon to find out. Kale then
becomes obsessed with uncovering the truth
behind what his doing with the murder victims
after he has had some coincidental meetings
with Mr. Turner it then becomes a life or death
situation.
