Climate Impact of Software Testing at Nordic Testing DaysKari Kakkonen
My slides at Nordic Testing Days 6.6.2024
Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.
Observability Concepts EVERY Developer Should Know -- DeveloperWeek Europe.pdfPaige Cruz
Monitoring and observability aren’t traditionally found in software curriculums and many of us cobble this knowledge together from whatever vendor or ecosystem we were first introduced to and whatever is a part of your current company’s observability stack.
While the dev and ops silo continues to crumble….many organizations still relegate monitoring & observability as the purview of ops, infra and SRE teams. This is a mistake - achieving a highly observable system requires collaboration up and down the stack.
I, a former op, would like to extend an invitation to all application developers to join the observability party will share these foundational concepts to build on:
Threats to mobile devices are more prevalent and increasing in scope and complexity. Users of mobile devices desire to take full advantage of the features
available on those devices, but many of the features provide convenience and capability but sacrifice security. This best practices guide outlines steps the users can take to better protect personal devices and information.
HCL Notes and Domino License Cost Reduction in the World of DLAUpanagenda
Webinar Recording: https://www.panagenda.com/webinars/hcl-notes-and-domino-license-cost-reduction-in-the-world-of-dlau/
The introduction of DLAU and the CCB & CCX licensing model caused quite a stir in the HCL community. As a Notes and Domino customer, you may have faced challenges with unexpected user counts and license costs. You probably have questions on how this new licensing approach works and how to benefit from it. Most importantly, you likely have budget constraints and want to save money where possible. Don’t worry, we can help with all of this!
We’ll show you how to fix common misconfigurations that cause higher-than-expected user counts, and how to identify accounts which you can deactivate to save money. There are also frequent patterns that can cause unnecessary cost, like using a person document instead of a mail-in for shared mailboxes. We’ll provide examples and solutions for those as well. And naturally we’ll explain the new licensing model.
Join HCL Ambassador Marc Thomas in this webinar with a special guest appearance from Franz Walder. It will give you the tools and know-how to stay on top of what is going on with Domino licensing. You will be able lower your cost through an optimized configuration and keep it low going forward.
These topics will be covered
- Reducing license cost by finding and fixing misconfigurations and superfluous accounts
- How do CCB and CCX licenses really work?
- Understanding the DLAU tool and how to best utilize it
- Tips for common problem areas, like team mailboxes, functional/test users, etc
- Practical examples and best practices to implement right away

"Discovering Lesotho: A Journey Through its Enchanting Attractions"
1. Tourism Attractions in Lesotho
• Tourism attractions are destinations or landmarks that draw visitors due to
their natural beauty, cultural significance, or recreational opportunities.
• These attractions, such as Maletsunyane Falls, Drakensberg Mountains, and
traditional villages, offer immersive experiences, historical insights, and
outdoor adventures.
• From awe-inspiring landscapes to heritage sites, Lesotho's tourism
attractions cater to a diverse range of interests and provide memorable
experiences for travelers.
2. Bokong Nature Reserve
• Bokong Nature Reserve is one of the highest reserves in Africa.
• It lies at the top of the Mafika-Lisiu Pass, leading to Katse Dam and reaches
an altitude of 3090m above sea level.
• There are some outstanding views across the highlands, however, the
reserves highlight is the LepaqoaWaterfall, which freezes in winter to form
a column of ice.
• You may see cattle posts (metebo) which are the ruins of interconnected
cattle shelters and kraals for stock that were built from stone.
3. CON. ACTIVITIES AT BOKONG RESERVE
pony rides, with the locally bred Basotho ponies
an ideal way of negotiating the mountains and
valleys.
The Bokong Reserve calls loud and clear to
birders, being an ideal place from which to see the
BeardedVulture, as well as the many bird species
endemic to this afro-alpine zone.
The reserve is also a haven for hikers, with a hiking
camp and network of trails and walks
4. LEPAQOAWATERFALL
i. Bokong has perhaps the more dramatic
setting of the two northern parks, with
stunning vistas over the LepaqoaValley from
the visitors centre, various short walks and a
good, rugged two- to three-day hike to
Ts’ehlanyane National Park.
ii. Bearded vultures, rock shelters and valley
head fens (wetland areas) are features here.
iii. The impressive Lepaqoa waterfall is worth
the trek; in winter it freezes into a craggy
column of ice.
iv. Guides are available and pony trekking can
be arranged.
v. The reserve sits at just over 3000m and gets
cold at night, so come prepared.
5. Morija Museum & Archives
a. Morija Museum & Archives hosts the oldest
surviving museum and archives in the Kingdom of
Lesotho.
b. As an institution with both extensive archival and
museum collections and its own ongoing research
projects and publishing program, it attracts
scholars from far and wide.
c. For those who love ancient and modern history,
contemporary issues and trends, dinosaurs, or
living culture, Morija Museum is an Oasis of
learning.
d. Located in Morija, a historic town in Lesotho, the
Museum works closely with the community to
preserve the area's heritage.
6. Sehlabathebe National Park
• Sehlabathebe National Park (SNP) andWorld Heritage Site (WHS) is the Kingdom
of Lesotho’s oldest protected area and first WHS.
• SNP is located in the Qacha’s Nek District of Lesotho on the eastern edge of the
Maloti Mountains at an altitude ranging from 2,200m to 2,600m above sea level.
• The 6,500ha SNPWHS together with the 242,813ha uKhahlamba Drakensberg
ParkWorld Heritage Site (UDPWHS) in South Africa.
• The Outstanding UniversalValue (OUV) that led to SNP’s inscription as aWHS
include the presence of more than 200 rock art sites and heritage features, rare and
endangered species as well as distinctive landscape characteristics.
• The programs designed to achieve the desired state for the Park focus primarily on
the conservation of the valuable culture-historical and biodiversity elements of the
area, including the status of the Park as aWHS and aTrans frontier Conservation
Area.
• The Park is largely pristine and approximately 30% of its surface area forms a
catchment that comprises extensive wetland ecosystems supplying clean water to
Lesotho, South Africa and Namibia.
8. Liphofung caves and cultural sites
• The Liphofung “place of the eland” cave occupies an important place in Lesotho
history.
• This is the smallest of the LHDA reserves at about 4 hectares. The cave is, in fact, a
large sandstone overhang, which is a typical feature of the Lesotho lowlands
region.
• Originally used by the San and other Stone Age people, the walls contain important
rock art and a rich archaeological deposit of Stone Age implements.
• Later, King Moshoeshoe “the Great” used the cave as a stopover when visiting that
part of the kingdom.
• This particular site lies in a tributary stream valley of the Hololo River just off the
main route from Butha-Buthe to Oxbow and Mokhotlong.
• Access is by means of a newly constructed concrete road and is passable for all
vehicles.
10. Thabana Ntlenyana
Thabana Ntlenyana, which literally
means "Beautiful little mountain" in
Sotho language, is the highest point in
Lesotho and the highest mountain in
