Discipline
To think good thoughts requires effort.
This is one of the thing that discipline (training) is about…..
Discipline is the suppression of base desires, and usually
understood to be synonymous with restrain and self control.
Self discipline is to some extent a substitute for motivation.
Discipline is when uses reason to determine the best course of
action regardless of one’s desire, which may be the opposite of
fun.
• Get on a good schedule.
We need structure and routine in our lives. Our bodies expect
it. They perform best when we operate on a regular schedule.
We especially need to eat and sleep about the same time each
day. If you are the parent of a young child, it is your job to
teach this habit early. This routine stays with a person their
whole life and helps them to develop good work habits. Find a
schedule that works for you and stick to it!
• Eat a healthy diet.
Our brains need the right food to perform at their peak.
Don’t go to school on an empty stomach. Students need to
train themselves early to eat a balanced and healthy diet. We
tend to carry the habits we learn when we are young forward
with us for most of our lives. Learning to eat right now can
avoid many health issues down the road.
• Learn to exercise.
We need physical activity to stay healthy. The benefits of
regular exercise are well documented. We need to find
exercise routines that are fun and match our individual
tastes. Developing a good exercise routine is a habit that
will increase both the quantity and quality of your life.
• Develop good study habits.
Studying effectively is a skill. People that live life to the
fullest are lifelong learners. They never stop trying new
things. One needs to study and gather new knowledge in an
effective and efficient manner. Learning how to study and
acquire the knowledge to succeed doesn’t just occur
naturally. It needs to be taught. Take a study skills course or
ask others for tips on improving your study habits.
• Respect the environment
It seems to be hip to be “green”, but being a good steward of our
environment is really not that new. Wise parents have been
teaching these principles to their children for ages. We only have
this one world and we depend on it for our survival. Every person
needs to do their part to protect what we have. Develop habits
now that will help you to be a good environmental citizen for a
lifetime!
Personal Management And Self Discipline
All great success in life is preceded by long, sustained periods of
focused effort on a single goal, the most important goal, with the
determination to stay with it until it is complete. Throughout
history, we find that every man or woman who achieved anything
lasting and worthwhile, had engaged in long, often unappreciated
hours, weeks, months and even years of concentrated, disciplined
work, in a particular direction. Fortunately the quality of self
discipline is something that you can learn by continuous practice,
over and over, until you master it. Once you have mastered the
ability to delay gratification, the ability to discipline yourself to
keep your attention focused on the most important task in front of
you, there is virtually no goal that you cannot accomplish and no
task that you cannot complete.
There are several disciplines that you need to develop if you want to
achieve your full potential. The first of these is the discipline
of goals. This means that you sit down with a pad of paper, a pen
and ample time. You think through and then make a written list of
all the things you want to accomplish in the next one, two, three,
four and five years. You organize the list into the various areas of
your life; your career, your money, your family, your health and the
other parts that are important to you. You set priorities among your
goals and re-write your lists so that your most important goals are at
the top. You then take a separate sheet of paper and you make a list
of all the things that you can think of doing, right now, to move you
toward the attainment of your most important goals.
School Etiquette
• Good discipline is a prerequisite of kids to
enable school teachers to be able to teach a
group of children the skills they will rely on for
the rest of their lives.
• It would help the education system immensely if children (including
older students) arrived at school well disciplined, well mannered,
obedient and respectful of adults.
• Teach them the three R's before they get to school: Respect for self;
Respect for others and to accept Responsibility for all their actions.
• Have them join the Cub Scouts, Scouts or Girl Guides at an early age
and continuously until they are old enough for the next step
School Etiquette - Class Room
 Be on time
 Don’t give cheek
 Don't tell lies - to anyone
 Don’t answer back
 Don’t be noisy or disrupt the class
 Co-operate with the other kids
 Do immediately what the teacher asks
you to do
 Pick up your own litter
 Pay attention to the teacher
 Don’t talk while the teacher is
talking
 Don’t snatch anything from anyone
 Don’t fight, pull, push or shove
anyone. Save it for your organized
activity such as Tae Kwon Do.
 Don’t steal from anyone
 Never bite anyone
School Etiquette - Sports & Sports Field
Be competitive, play hard but play fair. Always remember that it’s only activity.
To win by foul means is a hollow victory:
 Do your best
 Never get into a fight. Be a good loser. Someone has to lose
 Apologize immediately if you make a mistake
 Accept an apology with goodwill
 Don’t spit on anyone, the grounds or anywhere
 Show good sportsmanship. It’s only a game
School Etiquette - Students
 Be punctual
 Obey the school rules
 Pay attention to the teachers
 Be respectful to the teachers and staff
 Do immediately what you are directed to do
 Do not answer back
 Tell the truth - always. It takes courage to tell the
truth. Cowards tell lies out of fear
 Respect everyone’s rights
 Don't litter the school grounds
 Don't mess the toilets. If you do, clean it
up Practice being well mannered
 Don’t bully. Prevent bullying. Report bullying
 Don’t graffiti or vandalize property
 Report graffiti offences being committed
 Report acts of vandalism being committed
 Be respectful of public and private property
 Don’t steal from anyone
School Etiquette – Public Transport
 Be respectful to everyone, especially
adults
 No rowdiness, pushing, fighting or
yelling
 No foul language; no swearing
 Always offer your seat to the elderly
first, then to any other adult that is
standing
 Avoid obstructing doors and aisles.
Step aside to allow passengers to pass
without being asked to do so
 Don’t gang up on kids from other
schools. Keep inter-school rivalry for
organized inter-school competitions
 Don’t graffiti or vandalize public
property anywhere
 Personal Space – Follow the general principles of allowing everyone
their personal space to prevent making anyone uncomfortable.
 Email Etiquette – When you email someone, whether it is a teacher, fellow
student, or someone you work with, respect their time and sensibilities by
exhibiting good manners through electronic communication.
 Acknowledging Others – Never take credit for someone else’s work. Not only
is it rude, it makes you appear to not be smart enough to come up with ideas of
your own. By the same token, when someone receives an award, be the first to
offer congratulations. It shows that you are a team player and will make others
respect you even more in the classroom and on the job.
 Dress Appropriately – Follow the school and work dress code. Doing
otherwise can be distracting and get you into all kinds of trouble.
 Job Interview Etiquette – Follow general etiquette tips when interviewing for a
job. This will make you stand out as a viable candidate and have the employer
looking at you with respect.
 Respect Coworkers and Fellow Students – Follow proper etiquette in
relationships with your coworkers and friends at school. You are more likely
to get good grades, raises, promotions, and letters of recommendations if you
show good manners to people you work with.
To enjoy good health, to bring happiness to one’s life,
To bring peace to all, one must first discipline and control one’s own mind .
If a man can control his mind he can find the to Enlighten, and all wisdom and virtue will
naturally come to him..
-Buddha

  • 5. Personal Management And Self Discipline All great success in life is preceded by long, sustained periods of focused effort on a single goal, the most important goal, with the determination to stay with it until it is complete. Throughout history, we find that every man or woman who achieved anything lasting and worthwhile, had engaged in long, often unappreciated hours, weeks, months and even years of concentrated, disciplined work, in a particular direction. Fortunately the quality of self discipline is something that you can learn by continuous practice, over and over, until you master it. Once you have mastered the ability to delay gratification, the ability to discipline yourself to keep your attention focused on the most important task in front of you, there is virtually no goal that you cannot accomplish and no task that you cannot complete.
  • 6. There are several disciplines that you need to develop if you want to achieve your full potential. The first of these is the discipline of goals. This means that you sit down with a pad of paper, a pen and ample time. You think through and then make a written list of all the things you want to accomplish in the next one, two, three, four and five years. You organize the list into the various areas of your life; your career, your money, your family, your health and the other parts that are important to you. You set priorities among your goals and re-write your lists so that your most important goals are at the top. You then take a separate sheet of paper and you make a list of all the things that you can think of doing, right now, to move you toward the attainment of your most important goals.
