Standards or rules to be observed by artists in creating works of art or to create a good composition.
1. Jot down the principle and explain each of the seven PRINCIPLES of design in your own
words. Unity (Harmony),Variety,Emphasis (Focal Point), Balance,Movement, Rhythm,
Proportion
2. Find on the Internet (once you have completed question #1 above) to demonstrate
understanding of each PRINCIPLEin video usetwo pictures from a search engine to find
an example from other web sites. This means 14 different pictures. Place them with the
explanation.EG. Unity (Google – then chose images at left, then options in blue along
the top of the photos)
Unity (Harmony): It feels and look that everything in the art work go together well .
Variety: it happens when the artist make something in her or his work that doesn’t go with the
rest of the art work.

2. Emphasis (Focal Point): the artist uses emphasis to make their artwork standout and grab
attention .
Balance: It could be Symmetrical formal for example like you are looking in to a mirror or
Asymmetrical for example the picture doesn’t have the same thing on both sides.

Rhythm: element in to create movements interest.

4. Proportion: size relationship of one part of the art work to another part of the art work or the whole
pieces artwork.
