resulted in two major DL initiatives being taken in the
mid 1900’s in the USA
 First: National Science Foundation(NSF):1994
 Fund six digital library development projects among six
academic institutions
 Second: Library of congress and 14 other research
library :1995
 National Digital Library Federation Agreement
 Currently several DL initiatives taken by different
countries serve different purposes.

 Purpose
 A digital Library aims to be a national repository for Indian theses and
dissertation
 Content and Document formats
 Content: Report of the research work and dissertations conducted in
universities
 Format : tagged with appropriate metadata and made available in PDF
 Language: Metadata is also available in Kannada and Hindi
 Services
 Provide access to bibliographic information(also in Hindi and kannada)
and also full text of the theses in PDF format.
 Search feature: Simple and Advanced search
 Translated version in Roman Script
 Additional information: List of the Universities, Profiles of Faculty

 Purpose
 A digital Library aims to make available freely or at low cost, and
provide access to information on food and nutrition issue to those
involved in the work of food, nutrition.

 Content: Publication of various organization built using GSDL
 Format : HTML
 Language: content is also available in French and Spanish(mainly in
English)
 Services
 Accessible through search and browse interface
 Browsing the library by subject, by alphabetical order
 Retrieved documents can be read chapter-wise or can download in zip
file.
 Interface is available in three languages: English, French and Spanish
