This document discusses the difference between digital citizenship and digital leadership. Digital citizenship involves using the internet and social media in a responsible way, while digital leadership uses those tools to improve the lives of others. An example is provided of a digital citizen reporting inappropriate content to a teacher, while a digital leader would have a conversation to understand the context and then share an alternative educational resource. Students are asked to brainstorm their own examples of digital leadership. The document also provides reminders and facts about a school's acceptable use policy for technology.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

We all have good and bad thoughts from time to time and situation to situation. We are bombarded daily with spiraling thoughts(both negative and positive) creating all-consuming feel , making us difficult to manage with associated suffering. Good thoughts are like our Mob Signal (Positive thought) amidst noise(negative thought) in the atmosphere. Negative thoughts like noise outweigh positive thoughts. These thoughts often create unwanted confusion, trouble, stress and frustration in our mind as well as chaos in our physical world. Negative thoughts are also known as “distorted thinking”.

to Digital Leadership
iTech Prep Library
2015-2016
2. Learning Target
• I can articulate the
difference between
digital citizenship and
digital leadership
• I can synthesize how to
become a digital leader
Success Criteria:
• I can brainstorm 3
examples of digital
leadership
3. Digital Citizenship
vs Digital
Leadership
THINK-PAIR-SHARE
• THINK: What do you think is the difference
between digital citizenship & digital leadership?
(WITHOUT going to the next slide or Googling
it…I know you too well!)
• PAIR: Explain your thinking with a partner
• SHARE: Partners share out to the whole class
5. Digital Citizenship
vs. Digital Leadership
• Digital Citizenship: Using the Internet and social
media in a responsible & ethical way
• Digital LEADERSHIP: Using the Internet and
social media to improve the lives, well-being
and circumstances of others (Couros)
6. Example: Websites
Digital Citizen: This alert came up on your neighbor’s screen so
you reported the behavior to your teacher.
Digital Leader: This alert came up on your neighbor’s screen so
you struck up a conversation and found out he was trying to
access a local meteorologist’s Facebook page for his climate
change research project. You found an interview with the
same meteorologist on TeacherTube and shared it with the
class. Your teacher posted the link on Canvas so all students
researching that concept could receive support.
7.
8. • Think about the website example and review the
diagram on the previous slide
• Brainstorm 3 specific examples of digital
leadership and share
1. Example 1:
2. Example 2:
3. Example 3:
Your Turn!
9. A few friendly reminders…
• Passwords and passcodes are private
• The Internet is part of the real world,
and choices you make there will affect
your life
• Social Media- think…would you be
okay with your grandma seeing what
you’ve posted?
• Charge your laptop at
night- you both need a rest!
• Be smart and be safe
10. Acceptable Use Policy Facts
• It is a violation of the Acceptable Use Policy to download
games or change security settings/restrictions
• Broken keys usually result in a $5 fine
• Lost power supplies are $35 to replace, even if someone
else loses it for you
• For those who are part of the VPS Assurance Plan, any
other unintentional damage will be covered, meaning
you don’t need to pay a fine
• For those without the VPS Assurance Plan, a lost or
stolen laptop will result in a $1030.00 fine; stolen laptops
need a police report within 24 hours
• If you are unsure whether or not you paid for the plan,
ask our wonderful secretaries!

Editor's Notes
Lesson style & delivery is at the teacher discretion, yet we ask that the content remain unchanged. Feel free to add in additional slides or teaching points that you feel your students may need, but do not delete content information.
Remind students that their iPad is THEIR responsibility. If they let another student use their iPad and something happens to it, they are still the one responsible, not their friend.
“A friend messed up my iPad” is not a valid excuse.
Remind them about the acceptable use policy.
Do not go out looking for “inappropriate” sites, you will loose your iPad privileges.
Discuss: Sometimes bad stuff gets through. When that happens we need be mature. Close the site. Let the teacher know. It is not appropriate or mature to show it to your friend, or make a big deal about it.
Yes it’s ok to play games, but not during time when you are supposed to be learning.
It is an AUP violation to download games, game simulators or any other apps to your iPad.
If you aren’t sure if it is allowed…don’t do it!
Have students brainstorm their three “Rules of the Road” for staying out of trouble on their ipad.
You can have them share in whatever manner you like, i.e. a poster.
