3. PURPOSE AND
SCOPE
Designed for testing
the red rice of seed
samples on its optical
properties With
maximum comfort and
efficiency.
4. DESCRIPTION
The principle of trans-
illumination is based on the
varying ability of vitreous and
mealy grains pass luminous
flux, i.e. difference in their
optical properties.
5. USAGE
Diaphanoscope provides a
convenient work area on smooth
glass surface for seed and grain
analysis. A light placed under and
shining through the glass assists in
critical examination of the sample.
Used by grain inspectors and seed
analysts.
6. ESTIMATION OF RED RICE
Diaphanoscope is an inspection device
with an opaque glass or plastic surface
positioned over a small opening
providing a light source from below.
The light provides a view of the
internal seed structure of seeds which
are thin or translucent enough to allow
the light to shine through them
7. spread the paddy seed samples over the glass
surface
switch on the light
The white rice allows the light through them and
appears translucence and whitish.
The red rice which reflects the light source and
darkness is appeared in the seed structure and
in some time the reddishness is observed in the
internal view through the lemma and palea.
Separate the red rice by forceps and count the
Numbers
8. RED RICE IN THE PADDY SEED
SAMPLE IS EXPRESSED IN
EITHER AS
PERCENTAGE
or
NO/KG
10. Diaphanoscope is also used to
separate inert matter such as
florets lemma,palea ,awns
and caryopsis from paddy seed
sample which in turn u.sed to
calculate Physical Purity of seed
