First you eat the food
Your body makes it into glucose
Glucose gives you energy
But glucose needs a key
A place called the pancreas makes
the key the key is called insulin
When you eat, the pancreas makes
keys for the glucose to get into the
cells and gives your body energy
When there is too much glucose
some go on holiday to the liver or
the muscles, stored glucose in the
liver is called glycogen
When the body starts to run low the
holiday making glucose pick up their
keys and go to work
But I Have diabetes, what does this
mean
The pancreas cannot make keys
The glucose is locked out of the
cells!
Your body makes energy from fat
instead so you might lose weight
Your blood gets to much glucose
and your body doesnt get enough
energy!
Your liver works hard to kick the
glucose out because there is too
much and this is bad
This can make you wee more
You might get more thirsty!
You might even get an itchy bottom
because glucose helps bacteria to
grow
Your cuts might take longer to get
better because of glucose in the
blood
Don't worry there is something to
help
