Gum disease, also known as periodontal disease, begins as gingivitis when gums become swollen and bleed easily due to plaque buildup. Left untreated, gingivitis can progress to periodontitis where bone and tissue supporting the teeth are destroyed, potentially leading to tooth loss. Treatment for mild gum disease involves improved brushing and flossing, while more severe periodontitis may require non-surgical deep cleaning or surgical treatments like gum grafts to encourage bone regrowth and stabilize loose teeth. Advanced periodontitis will likely require surgical procedures to remove bacteria and smooth roots before grafts or proteins encourage bone regrowth.

Janet Krahenbuhl teaches oral hygiene to elementary school children during Children's Dental Health Month every February. She works with teachers and dental staff to educate students on proper brushing and flossing techniques. Establishing a routine for brushing twice daily using a soft toothbrush is important for removing plaque. Flossing can be challenging for young children, but parents can help by having the child lay with their head in their lap for easier access. Good oral hygiene habits are most effectively developed at a young age through dental education and parental follow up.
Dentist Hoboken wants patients to fill out a medical history form so that they have information on file prior to appointments. This saves time by avoiding questions during visits and allows the dentist to prescribe appropriate medications. Filling out the form is easy - patients can fill it out by hand and send it back or email a digital copy. Having this information on file enables the dentist to assist patients in emergencies and guide them on insurance policies. Regular checkups also allow the dentist to suggest solutions for beauty issues related to teeth and smile and help transform patients' appearance through advanced dental procedures.

What is good dental hygiene?
The importance of practicing good dental hygiene.
How can parents ensure children are practicing good dental hygiene?
What are the possible health consequences of poor dental hygiene?
What educational resources are available for parents?
Benefits of regular visits to the dentist.
What are the consequences of poor dental hygiene?
1. Cavities or dental carries are one of the most chronic childhood diseases in the United States. Untreated cavities can lead to issues with eating, speaking and playing in addition to pain.
2. Gum disease (an infection or swelling of the gums), halitosis (bad breath) and plaque (a white-ish substance that sticks to teeth when food is mixed with bacteria) are also consequences of poor dental hygiene.
3. Teeth in poor condition can lead to self-confidence issues and child could become introverted.
4. Poor dental hygiene during childhood can lead to poor dental hygiene in adulthood.
5. Poor dental hygiene has been linked to cardiovascular problems.
How are dental cavities formed?
Bacteria in plaque produces acids that stick to teeth and breaks down enamel over time forming a cavity. A cavity is a permanently damaged area in the hard surface of the tooth that eventually leads to little holes in your teeth.
Eating foods that are high in sugar and starches produce acids that can weaken the enamel of the tooth and lead to cavities.
Complications caused by cavities.
Pain- Untreated cavities can cause pain that can interfere with daily activities.
Tooth abscess- A pocket of pus in a tooth that causes infection.
Swelling or pus around a tooth- A pocket of pus at the base of the tooth.
Damaged or broken teeth- Cavities weaken the structure of the tooth and can lead to damage or breakage. When baby teeth are damaged the damage can ‘spread’ to the adult teeth.
Chewing problems. As a result of pain or damaged teeth, chewing can be a problem that can eventually lead to nutrition issues.
Shifting of teeth due to teeth loss. Not replacing a tooth when it is lost can affect the position of remaining teeth.
Gingivitis (gum disease). Gums will appear red and inflamed causing pain and possible bleeding while brushing.
Gum disease.
Gingivitis precedes a severe form of gum disease called periodontitis. Gingivitis is caused by plaque build up and leads to irritated and swollen gums. The teeth are still firmly planted in the sockets and there is no irreversible bone damage at that stage.
If gingivitis is left untreated it can advance to periodontitis. Periodontitis is characterized by the by the inner layer of the gum and bones pulling away from the teeth and forming pockets. These spaces can collect food debris and cause infections.

Embarking on health policy changes for bringing oral health towards school ag...Alexander Decker
This article discusses the need for changes to health policies in developing countries like India to improve oral health outcomes for school-aged children. It notes that current WHO goals for reducing tooth decay have not been met. Barriers like cost and lack of access mean traditional dental care is not reaching many children. The article argues that governments must fund school-based oral health programs, which could include school dental clinics or programs using dentists, dental hygienists, or trained teachers to provide education and basic care. Without policy changes and dedicated funding for children's oral health, goals are unlikely to be achieved in the next decade.
Healthcare & Science Challengers - Presentation by Thomas Serval, CEO of Kolibree at the NOAH 2015 Conference in Berlin, Tempodrom on the 9th of June 2015.
This document provides an introduction to pediatric dentistry. It discusses how the field has shifted from extraction-focused to prevention-focused. Pediatric dentistry is still developing in India, with outdated views that baby teeth don't need care. The increasing number of pediatric dentists may help change these views. Key aspects of pediatric dentistry include prevention, early diagnosis/treatment, space maintenance, and managing children with special needs. The importance of primary teeth and the "pedodontic triangle" relationship between the child, parent and dentist are also explained. The document outlines the scope and challenges of pediatric dentistry in areas like prevention, behavior guidance, and caring for disabled children.
Trinity Care Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing oral health programs, facial deformity programs, and oral cancer programs for underprivileged communities in slums and rural areas. The document discusses Trinity Care Foundation's oral public health programs, which include dental checkups, oral health awareness sessions, and referrals to dental institutes for treatment. It provides details of several oral health programs implemented by Trinity Care Foundation for schools, orphanages, and rural communities in Bangalore and Tamil Nadu from 2007 to 2010.
The document discusses establishing a school-based sealant program to prevent dental caries. According to sources, sealant programs can protect populations from developing dental caries by 60%. School-aged children are most at risk for dental caries. A service-learning project involving college students would involve educating parents about sealants, scheduling appointments for sealant application at schools, and following up with parents after initial application. The goal is to improve oral health and make parents comfortable with school-based sealant application.
Dental caries (tooth decay) is a widespread issue globally. Untreated dental caries affects approximately 2.3 billion people and over 530 million children suffer from tooth decay of primary teeth. Risk factors include free sugar consumption and poor oral hygiene. Countries vary significantly in their prevalence rates, health systems response, and access to dental care. Thailand and Indonesia have the highest rates of tooth decay, while the Netherlands has the lowest rate at 13%.
The Prediction Approach for Periodontitis Using Collaborative Filtering Metho...IJERA Editor
Big data is a term for data sets that are so large or complex that traditional data processing
applications are inadequate. We have proposed „the prediction approach‟ in big data which is
usually based totally at the decision making or clinical acumen aspect of a Dentist. Collaborative
filtering is a „facts Mining method‟ in which data is fed into the machine which analysis it using
certain parameters and offer resultant outcomes which helps in the future prediction of the
disease, which in this case is Periodontitis. This will help in making decisions by examining or
analyzing the whole disorder and plan the treatment to prevent its occurrence in future. It is by far
the most specialized and latest technology used in Dentistry to prevent the disease occurrence in
advance before it arise and create treatment strategies for future prevention of the disease. This
method could be tested with the huge collection of ancient statistics of dental diseases to check
the effectiveness of the technique and based on the generated end result; precision of prediction
can be executed in future.

The study aims to determine the quantitative impact of water consumed through drinking and cooking on daily fluoride intake, and to estimate the contribution from commonly consumed foods. Over 60% of daily fluoride intake comes from water used for drinking and food preparation. Infants obtain a higher percentage of daily fluoride from water compared to other age groups. The prevalence of fluorosis is higher in girls and women living in high fluoride endemic areas.
Following an application from Wrigley GmbH, the EFSA Panel on Dietetic Products, Nutrition and Allergies was asked to deliver an opinion on a health claim relating sugar-free chewing gum to reducing the risk of dental caries. The document discusses adding fluoride to sugar as a potential method for reducing dental caries. A WHO study group considered the possibility in 1989 but found information too limited for field trials. Two pilot studies tested fluoride concentrations on dental caries in situ, finding that over 10 ppm fluoride may be needed to see an effect. More research is needed to determine a safe and effective concentration for clinical trials. While all prevention methods should be considered, fluoridated sugar also raises safety, ethical and economic issues that require further evaluation.
This study compared dietary fluoride intake in children aged 4-6 years from communities receiving different sources of systemic fluoride: artificially fluoridated water in Brazil (0.6-0.8 mg/L), naturally fluoridated water in Brazil (0.6-0.9 mg/L), fluoridated salt in Peru (180-200 mg/kg), fluoridated milk in Peru (0.25 mg), and a non-fluoridated community. Dietary intake was measured using duplicate diets collected over two days. Mean fluoride intake was highest in communities receiving fluoridated water and lowest in the non-fluoridated community. The main dietary contributors of fluoride also differed between communities receiving water fluor
