Editor's Notes

  1. 13,200 dengue fever cases reported in ThailandBANGKOK: -- As of March 11, 13,200 Thais have fallen victims of dengue fever so far this year, with 16 of them killed by the illness, according to the Public Health Ministry. there were 9,824 people treated for dengue during January and February, an average of around 1,000 patients a week. Half of the patients were students. It said that the number of victims and the number of dead cases are both 4 times higher than the same period last year. The ministry’s data shows that cases were reported in all provinces of Thailand.A war room is now in place to monitor the situation and devise measures to contain the disease. The ministry fears the situation would worsen during the rainy season.
  2. Dengue is transmitted to humans by the Aedes (Stegomyia) aegypti or more rarely the Aedesalbopictus mosquito. The mosquitoes that spread dengue usually bite at dusk and dawn but may bite at any time during the day, especially indoors, in shady areas, or when the weather is cloudy.[2]The most common epidemic vector of dengue in the world is the Aedesaegypti mosquito. It can be identified by the white bands or scale patterns on its legs and thorax.
