DHDC is a nonprofit organization committed to overcoming barriers to employment, education, and healthy lifestyles for underserved communities in Southwest Detroit through culturally appropriate programming. It offers youth services, family services, employment and training, and counseling services including substance abuse treatment and HIV/AIDS prevention programs. The SALUD program targets at-risk Latino youth and other high-risk groups in Southwest Detroit with education sessions, counseling, testing, and outreach to prevent the spread of HIV in the community.

BANPH CB
The Bay Area Network for Positive Health (BANPH) works with 12 organizations in the Oakland/San Francisco area to link HIV-positive individuals to medical care and help them stay in care. Through outreach workers and linkage specialists, BANPH has engaged over 600 individuals and linked over 400 to care. BANPH found that many HIV-positive people face barriers like homelessness, addiction, mental illness or lack of transportation that prevent them from accessing care, so they recommend being flexible and developing trust with individuals before pressuring them to engage with care. Building relationships with an individual's social network can also help support ongoing care.

Effective youth harm reduction requires services that are culturally sensitive, address multiple health issues, ensure youth involvement, and include skills training. The overall process is a structured dialogue where the counselor helps the client identify and overcome problems through increased self-understanding and new skills.

It partners with various local organizations in Flint and Genesee County. One of its main projects is the HOPE Project, which uses peer education to prevent sexually transmitted infections like HIV/AIDS among 18-24 year olds. The HOPE Project involves HOPE Parties at homes where young people can learn about healthy sexuality from a certified educator. Participants are then invited to connect with the project online through social media or its website, hopegenesee.org, which has discussion forums and resources about HIV/AIDS and healthy sexuality.

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), in 2010, young people ages 13 to 24 years old made up 17% of the US population, but accounted for an estimated 26% (12,200) of all new HIV infections (47,500) in the United States. 1 in 4 new HIV infections occurs in youth ages 13 to 24 years.
