The document summarizes Ernie Hsiung's "Kitchen Sink Talk" workshop covering a range of WordPress topics including importing and exporting content, customizing websites, and troubleshooting issues. The workshop was intended for beginners and covered making websites unique through customization, maintaining sites by creating backups, and resolving problems like the dreaded white screen of death. Hsiung recommended intermediate and advanced customizations be done with customizable themes or by hiring developers, as most attendees were new to WordPress and technology.
This document summarizes David Bisset's presentation at WordCamp Miami 2013 about domain names, hosting, and WordPress.org vs WordPress.com. It discusses factors to consider when picking a domain name like keywords, branding, length. It also covers registering domains with services like GoDaddy and Hover, and types of hosting like shared, VPS, dedicated, and WordPress-optimized hosting. Finally, it outlines some differences between WordPress.org for self-hosting sites and WordPress.com for free blogging.
This document discusses how the media product, a horror movie trailer, uses and develops conventions of real horror movie trailers. It describes using Todorov's narrative theory of equilibrium and disequilibrium to structure the plot and tension. Filmmaking techniques like editing, music, and cinematography were employed to build fear and tension. Common horror movie tropes like having the sexually active character die first were also followed based on research. The trailer aims to seem like a realistic horror movie by including title cards, hidden killer identity, and following other genre conventions regarding setting, weapons, and endings.
Zara is a Spanish fast fashion retailer known for its rapid production model. It churns out 30,000 designs per year near copies of runway trends and gets garments to stores within 3 weeks. Zara releases new inventory twice weekly and aims to fuel frequent wardrobe changing among shoppers. Its highly efficient global supply chain moves 2.5 million items per week with nothing in warehouses for over 72 hours. Customers visit Zara six times more than competitors on average, attracted by its constant flow of affordable trendy clothes.
This document presents a framework for analyzing the convergence of Galerkin approximations for a class of noncoercive operators. It begins by introducing assumptions on the operators and establishing well-posedness of the continuous problem. It then analyzes a "GAP" condition on the finite element discretization that is sufficient for stability and quasi-optimal convergence. Finally, it discusses two applications of the theory: Maxwell's equations with variable coefficients, and a boundary integral formulation for electromagnetic wave propagation.
Jenna Windle was assigned to redesign a poster that originally lacked visual interest and was dull. The redesigned poster included:
1. A bold, centered title to stand out.
2. The addition of relevant pictures and graphics.
3. Formatting changes like alternating text colors, bullets, and bolding to highlight important information and make the poster more visually engaging.

I used various media technologies in the planning, research, and evaluation stages of my construction project. During planning and research, I relied heavily on online resources like YouTube to research trailers and magazines for inspiration. I used websites like Empire and Google to gather ideas. Zoomerang was helpful for creating and distributing an online survey to collect primary research feedback. I filmed footage and photos using digital cameras and edited them on Macs using Final Cut Express and Photoshop. Final Cut Express was used to edit my trailer and add music while Photoshop created tone cards and was used for ancillary tasks due to my familiarity with the software. Slideshare hosted my uploaded slideshows and linked to my online blogger.
I found feedback from showing my work to classmates and teachers to be very helpful, as it highlighted both strengths and weaknesses, allowing for improvements to be made. Social media also provided useful feedback from my target audience, with criticism on my trailer, magazine cover, and poster helping me better cater to their preferences. Key suggested improvements from audiences included adding more footage to reduce scene length in the trailer. Overall, receiving input from others was invaluable for strengthening my work.
The combination of the main product (horror film) and ancillary tasks (magazine cover, poster, trailer) work well together because they are closely linked through consistent themes. A dark color scheme using mainly black is used across all elements to match the horror genre. Small amounts of red and blue are added to make certain elements stand out from the darkness. The killer's identity is kept secret in all elements to build mystery and tension for the film. Both the magazine cover and poster feature glimpses of the killer's face without revealing identifying details to maintain the anonymous theme.
The document discusses key concepts in designing for WordPress, including how WordPress differs from static sites through its use of PHP and plugins. It outlines WordPress's common page structures like blog posts, categories, and pages. It also covers customization options available to designers like custom post types, taxonomies, fields, and formats. The document emphasizes that designers should ask questions to understand users' needs and provide guidance on customizing WordPress effectively.
The document discusses how the media product, a horror movie trailer, uses and develops forms and conventions of real horror movie trailers. Specifically:
- The trailer follows Todorov's narrative theory of equilibrium and disequilibrium to structure scenes for maximum tension.
- Editing techniques like quick cuts and music are used during disequilibrium moments to build fear.
- Common horror movie theories around character types and gender roles were applied to the casting.
- Conventions like keeping the killer anonymous and using a knife as the weapon help generate fear.
- Features like studio logos and tone cards were added to make the trailer seem like realistic horror movie previews.
The document discusses the main parts and functions of wind turbines. It explains that wind turbines use blades, a gearbox, shaft, generator and hub to capture wind energy and convert it into electricity that can power homes and cities. The blades spin from the wind, turning the shaft which then turns the generator to produce energy that is stored in batteries.
