Editor's Notes

  • #3 Key Takeaway: We are a publicly traded company. Please make your buying decisions only on the products commercially available from Salesforce.com. Talk Track: Before I begin, just a quick note that when considering future developments, whether by us or with any other solution provider, you should always base your purchasing decisions on what is currently available.
  • #9 Overview of the salesforce.com certification program. Salesforce.com continuously brings innovations in cloud computing–as our products evolve, our certification model evolves as well. The Salesforce.com Certification program is highly successful and well recognized in the industry. It’s grown to 7 certifications that are organized into role-based tracks: for Administrators, Developers, Implementation Experts and Technical Architects. The Administrator track offers the Administrator and Advanced Administrator credential for individuals responsible for configuring and managing Salesforce applications. The implementation expert, or consultant, track offers 2 specialized credentials for Sales Cloud Consultants and Service Cloud Consultants, respectively. These two credentials focus on the industry expertise, product specialization, and solution design within the Sales Cloud and Service Cloud. The developer track offers the Force.com Developer credential with focus on the declarative capabilities of the Force.com platform, and Advanced Developer with focus on the programmatic capabilities of the platform. The most advanced credential is the Certified Technical Architect. Mention Certified Administrator is pre-req for the consultant track and Certified Developer is a pre-req for Certified Technical Architect.
  • #10 The quality of our certification exams and the value our credentials provide is our highest priority. We believe that protecting the security and confidentiality of our exam content is essential to providing our customers with credentials that are respected and industry-leading. Sharing or posting exam questions compromises the certification exams. It degrades the value of the Certification and creates an unfair advantage for some test takers. Please mention the "gray market" of study materials. Best practices is to stay with Salesforce created materials.
  • #11 Talk to goal Then experience Then steps: Step 0 is the pre-req Dev Cert Step 1 the exam Step 2 the programming assignment Step 3 the essay Maintenance is the same as what you do for Developer certification, but it is three exams per year and one
  • #13 Pretty much right through on this one. No trick questions. All questions are clear Number of correct responses is always indicated No partial credit for partially correct answers
  • #14 Read the study guide. Rate yourself against the granular topics Read the article
  • #15 Every question of every test is looked at every single release by at least two certified individuals.
  • #17 The programming assignment window time line is as follows: 30 days before the assignment is distributed candidates sign up. Upon receiving the assignment you are given one month to complete it Toward the end of the window after you have completed your assignment, you complete the essay exam Results come 6-8 weeks after the assignment deadline Detailed Results with things done well and things you can work on Check the schedules on the certification microsite.
  • #18 You get an org and requirements You do the code, expect to do 20 hours work minimum
  • #19 Thoughts to emphasize: On testing, complete means testing for behavior. On Your Own Work: start from scratch, don’t use templates.
  • #20 Again…should go without saying…although the esthetics and other tech statements are worth mentioning.
  • #21 In addition to completing the programming assignment, you must complete the essay exam at a testing center. The essay exam will cover the specifics of the programming assignment, and will consist of up to 5 questions to be completed within 60 minutes. The essay exam must be taken AFTER you have submitted the programming assignment.
  • #23 The judge’s work begins after.
  • #24 Mention that we the methodology (the rubric) and job aid are about ensuring consistency. The saying refers to the fact that there are many ways to solve assignment requirements.
  • #25 Setup: Two judges. Each reviews an assignment and records their scores. Where they agree: no problem. Animation 1: They will have some criteria that they disagree on. Here they discuss Animation 2: For criteria A, after discussion they decide Caleb’s score is more accurate Animation 3: For criteria E, after discussion, they decide Leah’s score is more accurate Team judging allows for greater consistency, the ability to find things that the other judge misses.
  • #26 We don’t know who you are. We don’t want to know who you are. This is a barrier to objectivity
  • #27 Take away: there is a lot of effort by many people that goes into scoring the assignment. We want to make sure that every qualified candidate receives the certification
  • #29 Every assignment meets these criteria and fits this profile. A lot of work goes into each scenario Interesting and Real World Requirements Simple and Constrained Data Model Did you know that every Scenario requires the author to code the solution? Did you know a panel of prior authors, judges, and certified individuals reviews each Scenario and the coded Solution? If it seems like a lot of pressure to pass the Advanced Developer Certification, think about the pressure of your scenario run under a microscope? We try to craft a scenario that can be completed in a relatively short period of time yet presents various challenges that exercise the candidates knowledge of Force.com development
  • #30 One of the most difficult things is to balance enough complexity for the assignment to be challenging, but narrow enough scope that it can be completed in a short window of time.
  • #36 First download the study guide from the certification website and review it Sign up for a free developer edition org and practice Once you feel ready to take the exam, set up your test taker account at www.webassessor.com/salesforce. Always use the same account so your transcript is complete.
  • #37 First download the study guide from the certification website and review it Sign up for a free developer edition org and practice Once you feel ready to take the exam, set up your test taker account at www.webassessor.com/salesforce. Always use the same account so your transcript is complete.
  • #40 Join or start a Developer User Group in your area: http://bit.ly/user-groups Participate actively on the Discussion Boards: http://bit.ly/devboards
  • #42 Knowledge Base: search for commonly asked questions. Open a case: if unable to find in knowledge base. Success community: Certified individuals get an invite to the certified pro group. All can join the training and certification group Social Networks: follow for announcements and information.
  • #43 We recommend registering at least one week before you plan to take the exam. Stand-alone webcam required, can not be webcam integrated into laptop. TESTING WORKSTATION SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS – From Kryterion site. • #44 Once you earn your certification, make sure you stay current on your certification. Salesforce has 3 major product releases a year and for each release you must take a short, online (not proctored) exam to demonstrate that you are up to date on the latest release. You will receive lots of communication when it’s time to take an exam and access to an online training course to help you prepare. Release training is available to all Saleforce customers and is not part of the premiere catalog. If you earn an advanced-level credential, you need to maintain the pre-requisite credential. For Service Cloud Consultants, this means you must maintain your basic Administrator certification. If you allow your admin certification to lapse, you will lose both the basic and the advanced administrator certs. http://certification.force.com/pkb/articles/Public_KB/Maintaining-Your-Salesforce-com-Credential If you have multiple credentials in multiple tracks and do not pass a release exam you lose all the credentials in the corresponding track. For example, if I have the developer and admin certs and do not pass the admin release exam, I would lose my admin credential and keep my developer cert. In addition, if you have the admin and adv admin credential and do not pass the admin release exam you lose both your admin and adv admin credentials.
