Melvil Dewey was born in 1851 in Adams Center, NY and became known as the Father of Librarianship. In 1876, he created the revolutionary Dewey Decimal System while working as a librarian at Amherst College. In 1887, Dewey directed the nation's first library school at Columbia College, establishing librarian education. Throughout his life and career, Dewey accomplished innovations like founding the Lake Placid Club in 1895 where he worked to bring the Olympic Games to Lake Placid, which was realized after his 1931 death.
