3. Evaluation
I like the textures that I have shown in the image
which I created using a colour overlay. The images
resembles that of a cartoon which I think makes the
image look interesting.
If I were to edit the image again then I would
improve the textures on the facial area as I think it
would benefit from some more work to improve the
transition between the colours. I would also improve
the background as you can still see white and the
branches are lacking in a lot of texture.

5. Evaluation
I like the colours in this image as they are vibrant. For this
image, I tried to add more detail and texture than my last
edit, and I believe I have done this quite well. I like the
colour overlay on the face and the body. This image also
has a complete background which makes it look complete
unlike my last image. I prefer rotoscoping to the shape
task as I like the technique.
To improve this piece I would add more colour overlay to
the arms and the legs of the frog as these look a little less
detailed and more like block colours. If I was to do
rotoscoping again I would choose a more challenging
image to work from.

7. Evaluation
I like the colours within the writing on this image
which I achieved by rasterizing an image which I
had put over the text. I also think that by warping
the text it made it look more interesting and the
shadowing outline makes it look more effective. I
created a cloud which fit around the text which also
made it stand out from the background.
If I was to do it again, I may choose to use a
different font. For example, a font with wider
lettering would show more of the image through the
text. I could also experiment on using a range of
editing techniques to make the text more interesting.

9. Evaluation
I like the wider fonts used in these pieces because a
large portion of the images are visible through the
text. I used famous quotations and found images
which were relevant to them; Ghandi is featured
abstractly within the text and a piece of Picasso’s
artwork is visible in the other.
If I was to do another piece of work on this then I
would use shorter quotes and lessen the gaps
between characters (as well as shorten the leading)
so more of the image is visible within the text.

11. Evaluation
I like the simplicity in these images which I created
using a range of filters such as an ‘artistic cutout’
filter. I adjusted the threshold on a duplicate layer
which I changed to ‘screen’, ‘overlay’ and
‘multiply’ to achieve a range of different effects.
Screen kept the brightness of the image whereas the
others darkened it. My favourite image is the
bottom-right as this has a good balance between the
colour and the black so the image stands out more.
If I was to use this technique again then I would
explore the filters further with many combinations
to achieve a range of different outcomes.

13. Evaluation
I like the lighting in the first photo; the dark lighting
contributes to portraying the negative emotion of loneliness.
The bottom images are intended to portray happiness and
excitement. One of them has bad lighting, the image is too
dark an would have benefit from a change in aperture.
Although one smile is forced, the others appear genuine which
makes the images look more effective. The poses shown in the
happiness photograph are more natural than those of the
excitement, although I think they both look okay.
If I was to do it again I would intend on making the happiness
and excitement photos appear more natural and I would
consider the background layout as I believe they look rather
untidy which distracts from the subject of the images. I could
also try editing the pictures and experimenting more with
lighting whether it be artificial or natural. By editing the
images, I could achieve better results, whether it be through
filters or other editing techniques.

15. Evaluation
I like the simplicity of my illustration; simple yet enough. The
background is particularly simple so that it does not distract
from the character in the foreground. A little shading is used to
provide some detail to the illustration rather than finishing this
piece with block colours which would appear too plain. The
pencil outline improves the colour in the illustration and puts
emphasis on some parts of the character.
If I was to do this image again, I would add shading to the face
as I have left this white and it looks incomplete. I could also
add some more features to the background to make the
illustration more complex as a whole. I could adjust the size of
the background to enable this.
I have included an edited copy of my illustration which I
simply posturized on Photoshop to make the colours stand out
more.

Story Overview
My story is called “The Three Little Pigs”. It is about 3 little pigs who build themselves
a house each. A big bad wolf comes along and blows down the first house which is
made of straw. The pig runs to the next house. The wolf then comes along and blows
down the house made of wood. The pigs run to the next house. The wolf then attempts
to blow down a brick house but fails. The wolf gets angry, climbs through the chimney
and falls into a pot of boiling water- so he runs out the house and never comes back.
The pigs live happily ever after.

do so but people cannot edit your work, every copy will be the same as the original.

Audience
My target audience is children between the ages of 3 and 7. It is intended that for the
early years an adult will have to read the book to the children, in which case, adults
are also included in my target audience as they will be purchasing the book for their
child. As children learn to read, they may be able to read the book themselves. The
book is gender neutral and should appeal to both genders of children as there is no
stereotypical. It is aimed at children of middle/lower class in English speaking
countries.
Production Methods
I intend on using rotoscoping to create the illustrations in my book. I found that this
was the method I preferred and I was happy with my outcome. I will use sources
from the internet which I will rotoscope over to make the images unique to my book.
I will ensure that I show a range of textures by using the rotoscoping technique. I
will use a maximum of 4 backgrounds for my setting and just 4 characters. These
will all need to be rotoscoped at least once.

24. What are the strengths of the proposal? What areas of the proposal need further work?
You have focused on keeping the story the same
but with little additions to it. You have decided on
what techniques you will use to make your
characters unique to your book, & that the book
itself is to appeal to adults & children. You have
also kept your ideas for backgrounds & rotoscoping
simple which is good as it allows you not to stress
about constantly changing your images &
backgrounds.
The main part of the proposal which needs some
more work would be to think about focusing on the
aspects of small details, and textures you will use
for your backgrounds.
What are the strengths of the idea generation? What areas of idea generation could have been
further developed?
You have thought about a mass range of ideas, &
you have decided on one. This is great as it has
shown you have capabilities to think of an initial
idea and grow it into something larger and more
unique.
I would say that your idea generation is brilliant & I
personally wouldn’t change or add anything which
is not necessary.

25. What are the strengths of the proposal? What areas of the proposal need further work?
The book chosen has full potential so you are able
to create a really good piece from this background.
The methods going to be used will look effective as
well as unique because you are enabling yourself
to create your own characters. You appear to be
working very quickly and efficiently so meeting your
deadline shouldn’t be an issue.
(re-read the advantages and disadvantages) I am
concerned that the images you create will not end
up being as unique as we both hope. Focusing on
details for this project is key.
What are the strengths of the idea generation? What areas of idea generation could have been
further developed?
The idea generation is simple to understand and is
overflowing with imagination, the moodboard shows
some more of your ideas in detail and the mind
map is clear to understand but is packed with ideas
and thought.
The only thing I would change about the idea
generations is broaden your horizons and think a
bit more outside the box on your moodboard, think
about texture a bit more.

Dosn’t mess about, tell you what you need to know
and moves on.

The concept is well rounded, its clear you have a
very good understanding about what you are doing,
and how you are going about it.

uncreative, unless it is intentional. Also, adults
should be in your target audience because the
book is not for adults, its for children. A adult is not
buying a children's book for there own
entertainment, they purchase it because the deem
it suitable for there child.

I have expressed my ideas clearly and shown many in my mind map, I have then decided
on one idea in which I have created a mood board unique to my story. I have shown a
clear understanding of my book and how I am going to create it. Overall, my feedback
was positive with some small adjustments noted that need to be made to improve my
work.
Which parts of your feedback do you agree with and why?
I agree that I have expressed my work clearly and generated a range of ideas which I have
shown on my mind map and developed onto my mood board. I appear to be working
‘quickly and efficiently’ which I, as I am completely up to date, agree with. I have not
written anything about the textures and details in my work, which has been pointed out, I
agree that this needs to be addressed and therefore I will go back to my work and add
some information about how I will go about doing this.
Which parts of your feedback do you disagree with and why?
One piece of my feedback stated that 4 backgrounds for 8 pages seems somewhat
uncreative. I disagree with this as the setting of my story does not require anymore pages
than this (as it is only based on the building of 3 houses). Another piece of feedback also
states that this is a good idea as I won’t waste too much time on the backgrounds, which
allows me to focus on the foreground. For this reason, I have decided to have 5
backgrounds.
