A. At the end of one-hour and thirty minutes discussion 90% of the students will be
able to have 95% mastery of the light and dark reaction in the process called
photosynthesis.
B. At the end of the discussion the students will be able to differentiate and define
the different steps for both light dependent and independent reactions.

BIO11- Biological Sciences: Photosynthetic Light & Dark Reaction
III. Materials:
Colored papers- for star shaped cut-outs.
Illustration board- used for showing the different steps of light & reaction mechanism in a
closer look.
Projector Screen & Projector- for multimedia presentation.

before that please lead us the prayer

“I guess everyone’s present. So class,
fasten your seatbelts as we travel to a plant
food production journey. Be cautious along
the way, there might be questions that
needs answers. You’ll surely wouldn’t like to
miss the points it will give.
“Have you ever ask yourselves class why
we buy foods for our consumption? Why
can’t our system produce our own food

“Photosynthesis is a process used by plants
to convert light energy, normally from the
Sun, into chemical energy that can be later
released to fuel the organisms' activities. It
has two parts; first the light reaction and
second the dark reaction.”
“Good question Nessa.”
“To answer that take a look at this
illustrations. They’re pretty colorful right?
This is the thylakoid membrane found in the
leaf of a plant. It is in this place that the
light reaction occur.”

“What is that pink and red star represent

“Why is it called light reaction Ma’am?”

3. “It is called light reaction because this occur
in the presence of the sunlight. Dark
reaction
on the other hand occurs in the absence of
light.”

“Let us go back to the first step of
photosynthesis, the light-dependent
reactions is a process by which plants
capture and store energy from sunlight. In
this process, light energy is converted into
chemical energy, in the form of the energy-
carrying molecules ATP and NADPH. In the
light-independent reactions, the formed
NADPH and ATP drive the reduction of CO
2 to more useful organic compounds, such
as glucose. However, although light-
independent reactions are, by convention,
also called dark reactions, they are not
independent of the need of light, for they
are driven by ATP and NADPH, products of
light. They are often called the Calvin Cycle
or C3 Cycle.
