Gamification can help us improve the lives of elderly people, especially when they have physical problems due to a sedentary life. It can also help save a large amount of money.
Short presentation on how Gamification could be used to lower Depression among the elderly and as a side result bring grandchildren and grandparents closer together.
The document discusses the different dimensions of health and wellness, including physical, emotional, intellectual, social, and spiritual. It describes the components of physical fitness, including cardiovascular endurance, muscular endurance, muscular strength, flexibility, and body composition. It also covers skill-related fitness components such as agility, balance, coordination, speed, power, and reaction time. Overall, the document emphasizes that physical activity is important for health, wellness, and fitness.
The document discusses the health benefits of physical activity and exercise. It defines key terms like physical activity, exercise, and physical fitness. It describes the various health-related components of fitness like cardiorespiratory endurance, muscular strength and endurance, flexibility, and coordination. It provides guidelines for healthy physical activity, including recommendations on duration, intensity, and examples like walking. It also discusses hiking as a recommended physical activity and provides safety tips and guidelines for planning hiking routes.
Regular physical activity and exercise provide significant health benefits. Not being physically active is a major risk factor for mortality and is associated with increased risk of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and some cancers. Moderate physical activity like walking, cycling, or participating in sports can improve health by reducing risks of chronic diseases, managing weight and improving mood and quality of life. Sedentary lifestyles are becoming more common in developed nations with only a small percentage of people meeting minimum physical activity recommendations.
Ankit Patel presented on care of the elderly. The document defined elderly as over 65 years old and discussed care needs unique to seniors. It described the normal aging process, including biological, psychological, sociocultural, and sexual changes that occur. Biologically, aging impacts nearly every system of the body, slowing functions and decreasing abilities over time in areas like memory, mobility, and senses. Psychologically, grief and loss are cumulative, and psychiatric disorders are more common in elderly. Socially, aging can bring respect or negative stereotypes depending on culture.
Physical activity is any body movement that uses energy and includes moderate or vigorous activities like walking, running, swimming, and yoga. It is important for health because it increases calorie burning and helps people maintain a healthy weight as they age. Being physically active can help people live longer, improve mood, strengthen muscles and bones, and spend time socializing.
Geriatric medicine is a specialty concerned with diseases and health problems of older adults over 65. Life expectancy is around 16 years for men and 19 years for women at age 65. Many physiological changes occur with aging that can impact multiple organ systems. Common problems in geriatrics include intellectual impairment, immobility, instability, and incontinence. Delirium and dementia are two types of confusion seen in older adults, with delirium being acute and reversible and dementia being chronic and progressive.

The document is a free PowerPoint template about obesity. It includes pages about group members, defining obesity as an increase in body weight due to excess body fat, explaining BMI as a measure of body shape based on mass and height, providing obesity prevalence statistics by country and gender, listing main causes of obesity as lack of physical activity, bad nutrition, and genes, outlining diseases associated with obesity like heart disease and diabetes, and proposing solutions like exercise, healthy diet, sleep, and motivation to fight obesity.
Needs assessments carried out by social workers evaluate an elderly person's living conditions, independent living skills, financial situation, family support, and needs for services. This determines if they require domiciliary care at home, attendance at day centers which provide activities and meals, or placement in residential or nursing homes that provide 24-hour care, meals, activities, and assistance with daily tasks.
Elder abuse refers to the mistreatment and exploitation of older adults. It can include physical, emotional, sexual, or financial abuse, as well as neglect by caregivers or others in a trusting relationship.
1) The global population of people over age 60 is nearly 700 million currently and is expected to reach 2 billion by 2050, outpacing the number of children.
2) In the Philippines, there are over 4.5 million senior citizens comprising nearly 6% of the population as of 2009.
3) Elderly people face issues like abuse, neglect, loneliness due to loss of spouse and friends, poverty, declining health, and discrimination.

India's elderly population is growing rapidly and will comprise 20% of the population by 2050. Currently, 10% of Indians are aged 60 or older. Many elderly people face health issues, poverty, neglect, abuse and lack of social security. Several government programs and policies aim to support senior citizens, as well as NGOs, but implementation remains a challenge and many elderly Indians still suffer from poverty, neglect and abuse.
The roles and responsibilities of a geriatric nurse include providing specialized care to older adults that addresses their complex physical and mental health needs. Geriatric nurses work in various settings like hospitals, nursing homes, and patients' homes. Their responsibilities involve assessing patients' health status, understanding health issues, educating patients and families, and linking patients to community resources to help older adults stay independent for as long as possible. Geriatric nurses play an important advocacy role in the care of older patients.

GASTROINTESTINAL INFECTIONS AND GASTRITIS
Osvaldo Bernardo Muchanga
Gastrointestinal Infections
GASTROINTESTINAL INFECTIONS result from the ingestion of pathogens that cause infections at the level of this tract, generally being transmitted by food, water and hands contaminated by microorganisms such as E. coli, Salmonella, Shigella, Vibrio cholerae, Campylobacter, Staphylococcus, Rotavirus among others that are generally contained in feces, thus configuring a FECAL-ORAL type of transmission.
Among the factors that lead to the occurrence of gastrointestinal infections are the hygienic and sanitary deficiencies that characterize our markets and other places where raw or cooked food is sold, poor environmental sanitation in communities, deficiencies in water treatment (or in the process of its plumbing), risky hygienic-sanitary habits (not washing hands after major and/or minor needs), among others.
These are generally consequences (signs and symptoms) resulting from gastrointestinal infections: diarrhea, vomiting, fever and malaise, among others.
The treatment consists of replacing lost liquids and electrolytes (drinking drinking water and other recommended liquids, including consumption of juicy fruits such as papayas, apples, pears, among others that contain water in their composition).
To prevent this, it is necessary to promote health education, improve the hygienic-sanitary conditions of markets and communities in general as a way of promoting, preserving and prolonging PUBLIC HEALTH.
Gastritis and Gastric Health
Gastric Health is one of the most relevant concerns in human health, with gastrointestinal infections being among the main illnesses that affect humans.
Among gastric problems, we have GASTRITIS AND GASTRIC ULCERS as the main public health problems. Gastritis and gastric ulcers normally result from inflammation and corrosion of the walls of the stomach (gastric mucosa) and are generally associated (caused) by the bacterium Helicobacter pylor, which, according to the literature, this bacterium settles on these walls (of the stomach) and starts to release urease that ends up altering the normal pH of the stomach (acid), which leads to inflammation and corrosion of the mucous membranes and consequent gastritis or ulcers, respectively.
In addition to bacterial infections, gastritis and gastric ulcers are associated with several factors, with emphasis on prolonged fasting, chemical substances including drugs, alcohol, foods with strong seasonings including chilli, which ends up causing inflammation of the stomach walls and/or corrosion. of the same, resulting in the appearance of wounds and consequent gastritis or ulcers, respectively.
Among patients with gastritis and/or ulcers, one of the dilemmas is associated with the foods to consume in order to minimize the sensation of pain and discomfort.
The skin is the largest organ and its health plays a vital role among the other sense organs. The skin concerns like acne breakout, psoriasis, or anything similar along the lines, finding a qualified and experienced dermatologist becomes paramount.

Are you looking for a long-lasting solution to your missing tooth?
Dental implants are the most common type of method for replacing the missing tooth. Unlike dentures or bridges, implants are surgically placed in the jawbone. In layman’s terms, a dental implant is similar to the natural root of the tooth. It offers a stable foundation for the artificial tooth giving it the look, feel, and function similar to the natural tooth.

Breast cancer: Post menopausal endocrine therapyDr. Sumit KUMAR
Breast cancer in postmenopausal women with hormone receptor-positive (HR+) status is a common and complex condition that necessitates a multifaceted approach to management. HR+ breast cancer means that the cancer cells grow in response to hormones such as estrogen and progesterone. This subtype is prevalent among postmenopausal women and typically exhibits a more indolent course compared to other forms of breast cancer, which allows for a variety of treatment options.
Diagnosis and Staging
The diagnosis of HR+ breast cancer begins with clinical evaluation, imaging, and biopsy. Imaging modalities such as mammography, ultrasound, and MRI help in assessing the extent of the disease. Histopathological examination and immunohistochemical staining of the biopsy sample confirm the diagnosis and hormone receptor status by identifying the presence of estrogen receptors (ER) and progesterone receptors (PR) on the tumor cells.
Staging involves determining the size of the tumor (T), the involvement of regional lymph nodes (N), and the presence of distant metastasis (M). The American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) staging system is commonly used. Accurate staging is critical as it guides treatment decisions.
Treatment Options
Endocrine Therapy
Endocrine therapy is the cornerstone of treatment for HR+ breast cancer in postmenopausal women. The primary goal is to reduce the levels of estrogen or block its effects on cancer cells. Commonly used agents include:
Selective Estrogen Receptor Modulators (SERMs): Tamoxifen is a SERM that binds to estrogen receptors, blocking estrogen from stimulating breast cancer cells. It is effective but may have side effects such as increased risk of endometrial cancer and thromboembolic events.
Aromatase Inhibitors (AIs): These drugs, including anastrozole, letrozole, and exemestane, lower estrogen levels by inhibiting the aromatase enzyme, which converts androgens to estrogen in peripheral tissues. AIs are generally preferred in postmenopausal women due to their efficacy and safety profile compared to tamoxifen.
Selective Estrogen Receptor Downregulators (SERDs): Fulvestrant is a SERD that degrades estrogen receptors and is used in cases where resistance to other endocrine therapies develops.
Combination Therapies
Combining endocrine therapy with other treatments enhances efficacy. Examples include:
Endocrine Therapy with CDK4/6 Inhibitors: Palbociclib, ribociclib, and abemaciclib are CDK4/6 inhibitors that, when combined with endocrine therapy, significantly improve progression-free survival in advanced HR+ breast cancer.
Endocrine Therapy with mTOR Inhibitors: Everolimus, an mTOR inhibitor, can be added to endocrine therapy for patients who have developed resistance to aromatase inhibitors.
Chemotherapy
Chemotherapy is generally reserved for patients with high-risk features, such as large tumor size, high-grade histology, or extensive lymph node involvement. Regimens often include anthracyclines and taxanes.

5. IMPORTANCE OF PHYSICAL ACTIVITY
FORTHE ELDERLY
• There is clear scientific evidence that regular
physical activity has powerful positive effects on
both psychological and physical well-being.
• Physical activity reduces the risk of developing
breast cancer by 25%.
• The cost of physical inactivity is exorbitant for
health authorities.
• Programs to facilitate an increase in physical
activity among the aging population are crucial
for both senior citizens quality of life and for
healthy authorities’ economy
aramos@takion.es
6. HOW TO SOLVE IT?
aramos@takion.es
Gamification can help us improve the lives of
elderly people, especially when they have
physical problems due to a sedentary life. It can
also help save a large amount of money.
7. THE EASIEST SOLUTION: PERSONAL
TRAINERS
Are very expensive!!!
We don’t have sufficient
trainers, nor the enormous
amount of money needed to
pay them

9. CITIES HEALTHY PATHS
Healthy paths are a set of routes around the city, designed to help
Elderly people improve their physical condition.
These routes have:
Different Levels: Beginners,Walkers, Runners,
Marathons Flyers
Each Route has different stages,
going from 1 to five.
These AreThematic Routes
aramos@takion.es
10. CITIES HEALTHY PATHS: RULES
People can start the routes as a “beginner.”
When people reach each stage of the route, they get
“health points,” each stage has a specific number of health
points.
When you finish a route you can move on to the next level
(beginners, walkers, runners, marathons, flyers).
Those who reach higher route levels will earn more health
points
Routes will have random stages (places) where people will
get additional points.
aramos@takion.es
11. CITIES HEALTHY PATHS: RULES
Groups doing routes earn additional points.
By introducing new people to the health routes you can earn one of a
series of “Civic medals.” Participants will earn more civic medals by
introducing more people to the routes.
People at higher levels can design new routes and suggest them to
other people.
Routes are about specific interests (historical, cultural, social, etc...)
and each stage of the route gives information about the
theme/interest.
When they reach each stage people can provide more information
about a specific route
At each stage of the routes, people at higher levels can check and
correct the information given by other members. .
