Eadha Enterprises is proposing an aspen agroforestry scheme using native aspen trees planted at 400 trees per hectare. Aspen is well-suited for this use as a fast-growing native species that casts light shade. The scheme aims to provide benefits like increased soil stability, nutrient remineralization, and biomass for livestock fodder, biochar production, and woodfuel. Eadha has established a collection of aspen clones from across Scotland to select clones suited for different locations and conditions. The proposed system would replicate traditional wood pasture and is expected to produce 1-1.7 tons of biomass per hectare annually.
