PARK GÜELL ( 1900-1914)
• Park Güell is a municipal garden area located in
Barcelona, Spain.
• The Parc Guell is located on Mount Caramel Turó on
the hillside overlooking the sea...
• Guell designed this park for the Guell family...
• Park Güell is one of the major parks in Barcelona
and is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site "
Main Entrance:
Main entrance:
• The two houses on either
side of the entrance,
Gaudi, giving free rein to
his fantasy was inspired
by the story of Hansel
and Gretel for your
design.
• Both roofs are
surmounted by domes
resembling tiny original
the ormof a mushroom
Main Staircase:
• The double staircase has
walls on each side with
crenelated tops and sides of
checkerboard tiles. Part way
up the staircase the head of
a serpent is seen against a
background medallion with
the coat of arms of Catalan.
• Farther up the stairway the
viewer encounters the
famous dragon or lizard
with "scales" of tiles.
Main Staircase:
Hypostyle chamber:
• A large area covered, supported
by 86 Doric columns,
• The roof supports the floor of the
public square above it. The
columns are hollow in order to
provide a channel for rain water
to the cistern.
• “This is a forest of 86 stone
columns, some of which lean like
mighty trees bent by the weight
of time, To the left curves a
gallery whose twisted stonework
columns and roof give the effect
of a cloister beneath tree roots “
Hypostyle chamber:
Public Square:
• At about 160 feet by 120 feet, half
of it is supported by solid ground,
the other half is supported on the
Doric columns
• This large square is used for
cultural celebrations and popular. It
connects the building with nature,
an integral principle of art
nouveau.”
• The unique shape of the serpentine
bench enables the people sitting on
it to converse privately,
Public Square:
CASA MILA:
• Casa Mila, , popularly known
as La Pedrera or "open
quarry", a reference to its
unconventional rough-hewn
appearance
• Modernist building made
during the Art Nouveau
period.
• He was a commissioned
Gaudi to Mrs. Sigismund rose
Milan. Its original function
was exclusively residential.
Main Facade:
• Viewed from the outside the
building has three parts:
The main body of the six-
storey blocks with winding
stone floors
Two floors set a block back
with a different curve, similar
to waves, a smoother texture
and whiter color, and with
small holes that look like
embrasures, and
Finally the body of the roof.
Main Facade:
Hall and courtyards:
• The building uses a completely original
solution to solve the issue of a lobby
being too closed and dark.
• Its open and airy courtyards provide a
place of transit and are directly visible to
those accessing the building.
Roof and Chimneys:
• On the rooftop there are six
skylights/staircase exits twenty-
eight chimneys in several
groupings, two half-hidden
vents whose function is to
renew the air in the building,
and four domes that discharged
to the facade.
• The stepped roof of La Pedrera,
called "the garden of warriors"
by the poet Pere Gimferrer
because the chimneys appear
to be protecting the skylights
Roof and Chimneys:
SAGRADA FAMILIA
• The Basilica Temple Expiator de la
Sagrada Familia is the largest
unfinished Roman Catholic
Church in the world.
• The Basilica of the Sagrada
Familia was the inspiration of a
bookseller, Josip Maria Boca Bella
Guell designed this park for the
Guell family...
• Combination of Gothic
Architecture, Catalan Modernism
and curvilinear Art
Nouveau forms.
Main Facade
• The Church will have three grand façades: the Nativity
façade to the East, the Passion façade to the West, and the
Glory façade to the South (yet to be completed).
Main Facade:
The Nativity Façade
• Dedicated to the birth of Jesus, it
is decorated with scenes
reminiscent of elements of life.
• The three porticos are separated
by two large columns,
• Base of each lies a turtle or a
tortoise (one to represent the
land and the other the sea; each
are symbols of time as something
set in stone and unchangeable).
• Two chameleons can be found at
either side of the façade, and are
symbolic of change.
Nativity Facade
The Passion façade
• Built over the elliptical plan, were
finished in 1976.
• It is especially striking for its spare,
gaunt, tormented characters,
including emaciated figures of
Christ being scourged at the pillar;
and Christ on the Cross
• He wanted to "break" arcs and
"cut" columns, and to use the effect
of chiaroscuro (dark angular
shadows contrasted by harsh rigid
light) to further show the severity
and brutality of Christ's sacrifice.
The Passion façade
Glory Façade (In Phase)
• It will be decorated with
demons, idols, false gods,
heresy and schisms, etc.
Purgatory and death will also be
depicted, the latter using tombs
along the ground.
• The portico will have seven
large columns dedicated to
spiritual gifts. At the base of the
columns there will be
representations of the Seven
Deadly Sins, and at the top, The
Seven Heavenly Virtues.
Plan:
• Gaudi intended that a
visitor standing at the main
entrance be able to see
the vaults of the nave,
crossing, and apse; thus
the graduated increase in
vault loft. Even detail-level
work such as the iron
railings for balconies and
stairways are full of
curvaceous elaboration.
Spires:
• 18 spires
• Twelve Apostles, the Virgin Mary,
the four Evangelists and, tallest of
all, Jesus Christ.
• Surmounts:
1.a winged bull (Saint Luke), a winged
man (Saint Matthew), an eagle
(Saint John), and a winged lion (Saint
Mark).
2.a giant cross; total height (170
meters (560 ft)
Casa Batllo
General Information:
Location: Barcelona, Spain
Owner: Josep Batllo i Casanovas (textile manufacturer)
Masterpiece of Art Nouveau Architecture.
Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2005.
Designed by
Emili Sala in
1877
Renovated by
Antoni Gaudi in
1905
Most emblematic project of Gaudi’s career.
Both aesthetic and functional.
Each and every part of the building is inspired
from the nature.
Common theory about Casa Batllo is that is pays
tribute to the legend of the Catalonian patron
Saint, Saint George, and his battle with the
dragon.
Façade:
Decorated with a collage of stone,
glass, ceramics tiles, flowing
stonework and large irregular
windows .
Called ‘house o yawn’ because of
the large windows.
Windows is useful functionality
wise.
Called ‘house of bones’ because
the pillars in the façade looks like
bones and the balconies resembles
the skull.
Outside of this building represents
the legend of Sant Jordi (Saint
George).
Roof:
Roof is arched and scaly
which resembles to the
back of a dragon.
Sculptures in the roof is
chimneys connected to
kitchen and fire place.
The spire like feature on the
roof represent the sword of
St. George, which has been
plunged into the back of
the dragon.
Attic:
Building facilities such as
laundry and store room.
Functionality wise this floor
serves as thermal regulator,
protecting lower floors from
changing temperature of
outside elements.
In terms of design, white color
creates a sense of cleanliness
and the parabolic arches
represents the ribs of the
dragon.
Light well:
provides the natural illumination, heat and air
ventilation.
Design is inspired from ocean. So, different shades of
blue is used in it.
Noble floor:
Floor for Batllo family. This floor is dominated by the forms
of nature.
Patio:
Direct access from the Noble floor.
Vastu Shastra
-science of dwelling and architecture
-originated from Indus valley
civilization
•Ancient belief based on geometric patterns (yantra),
symmetry and directional alignments.
•Inclusion of five basic elements (Pancha
maha-bhootas):
1. Fire
2. Air
3. Water
4. Earth
5. Space
Geometrical alignment of elements
Form of energy representing elements
FORM OF ENERGY ELEMENTS

RAIN WATER
GRAVITATIONAL/
MAGNETIC
EARTH
SOUND SPACE
VASTUPURUSHA MANDALA
Mathematical and
diagrammatic basis for
generating design.
Metaphysical plan of a
building that
incorporates the
course of the heavenly
bodies and
supernatural forces.
Orientation of function
Vastu house by Khosla Associates, India
The placement of
spaces in the house
are in synch with the
plan of the Vastu
Purusha Mandala
(the ancient Indian
science of
orientation and
placement).
The main areas of the
house according to the
elements – Master
bedroom in the Earth zone
(SW), kitchen in the Fire
zone (SE), and the pool and
entrance in the Water zone
and Air zones (N and NE), -
even positions of doors, the
direction of the stairs,
location of beds, wardrobes
and desks and the positions
of the wc’s in the
bathrooms had to be in
accordance with the
correct energy flows.
Open space at the centre as per
the Vastushastra demands
THE TEMPLE OF SRIRANGAM
The temple of Srirangam
is situated at 10 degrees
52’N and 78 degrees 42’ E
towards the southern tip
of IndiaSrirangam
(formerly Vellithirumutha
gramam) is an island and a
part of the city of
Tiruchirappalli, in South
India.
-Symmetric in plan
-open space in middle of the plot
-all the openings aligned in correct position
-water body(twin rivers:Couvery and Coleroon)at north east
JAWAHAR KALA KENDRA(1986-1996):
• This master piece was designed by the
famous Indian architect, Charles
Correa.
• Plan is inspired by the original city plan
of Jaipur consisting of nine squares
with central square left open.
• Concept of nine squares is termed as
Navagrah .Each square was linked to
the planet as per the characteristics of
the particular planet and its
astrological values and the
functionality of the square.
JAWAHAR KALA KENDRA(1986-1996):

JAWAHAR KALA KENDRA(1986-1996):
JAIPUR CITY PALACE:
• Old Jaipur which is based on a Prastar
type town described in several texts.
• Built in 1727 AD, the final form and
structure of the town shows a skillful
manipulation, according to the
Shastra's prescriptions, of the square
mandala right from the whole to the
smallest of the plots, the location of
activities, and distribution of the caste
groups.
CONCLUSION
Thus, in contrasts to this report it can be said that Antoni Gaudi
was an masterpiece and the best known practitioner of Catalan
Modernism. It as found that Gaudi's works had a highly
individualized and distinctive style with most of his works
located in Barcelona. Today his work attracts a global following
with some of the most distinctive, idiosyncratic, and
recognizable designs of all time due to the use of Art Noveau
style of architecture.
The second phase of the report made the major statement of
astrology being liked with Architecture. Vaastu Shastra, a system
which lasted near the beginning of Indus civilization still made
impacts on design this late. Thus it was clear that form definition
could be liked even with traditional means like Vaastu Shaastra.
Thank You!

  • 8. Main Staircase: • The double staircase has walls on each side with crenelated tops and sides of checkerboard tiles. Part way up the staircase the head of a serpent is seen against a background medallion with the coat of arms of Catalan. • Farther up the stairway the viewer encounters the famous dragon or lizard with "scales" of tiles.
  • 10. Hypostyle chamber: • A large area covered, supported by 86 Doric columns, • The roof supports the floor of the public square above it. The columns are hollow in order to provide a channel for rain water to the cistern. • “This is a forest of 86 stone columns, some of which lean like mighty trees bent by the weight of time, To the left curves a gallery whose twisted stonework columns and roof give the effect of a cloister beneath tree roots “
  • 12. Public Square: • At about 160 feet by 120 feet, half of it is supported by solid ground, the other half is supported on the Doric columns • This large square is used for cultural celebrations and popular. It connects the building with nature, an integral principle of art nouveau.” • The unique shape of the serpentine bench enables the people sitting on it to converse privately,
  • 14. CASA MILA: • Casa Mila, , popularly known as La Pedrera or "open quarry", a reference to its unconventional rough-hewn appearance • Modernist building made during the Art Nouveau period. • He was a commissioned Gaudi to Mrs. Sigismund rose Milan. Its original function was exclusively residential.
  • 15. Main Facade: • Viewed from the outside the building has three parts: The main body of the six- storey blocks with winding stone floors Two floors set a block back with a different curve, similar to waves, a smoother texture and whiter color, and with small holes that look like embrasures, and Finally the body of the roof.
  • 17. Hall and courtyards: • The building uses a completely original solution to solve the issue of a lobby being too closed and dark. • Its open and airy courtyards provide a place of transit and are directly visible to those accessing the building.
  • 18. Roof and Chimneys: • On the rooftop there are six skylights/staircase exits twenty- eight chimneys in several groupings, two half-hidden vents whose function is to renew the air in the building, and four domes that discharged to the facade. • The stepped roof of La Pedrera, called "the garden of warriors" by the poet Pere Gimferrer because the chimneys appear to be protecting the skylights

  • 21. Main Facade • The Church will have three grand façades: the Nativity façade to the East, the Passion façade to the West, and the Glory façade to the South (yet to be completed).
  • 23. The Nativity Façade • Dedicated to the birth of Jesus, it is decorated with scenes reminiscent of elements of life. • The three porticos are separated by two large columns, • Base of each lies a turtle or a tortoise (one to represent the land and the other the sea; each are symbols of time as something set in stone and unchangeable). • Two chameleons can be found at either side of the façade, and are symbolic of change.
  • 25. The Passion façade • Built over the elliptical plan, were finished in 1976. • It is especially striking for its spare, gaunt, tormented characters, including emaciated figures of Christ being scourged at the pillar; and Christ on the Cross • He wanted to "break" arcs and "cut" columns, and to use the effect of chiaroscuro (dark angular shadows contrasted by harsh rigid light) to further show the severity and brutality of Christ's sacrifice.
  • 27. Glory Façade (In Phase) • It will be decorated with demons, idols, false gods, heresy and schisms, etc. Purgatory and death will also be depicted, the latter using tombs along the ground. • The portico will have seven large columns dedicated to spiritual gifts. At the base of the columns there will be representations of the Seven Deadly Sins, and at the top, The Seven Heavenly Virtues.

  • 42. Vastu Shastra -science of dwelling and architecture -originated from Indus valley civilization
  • 43. •Ancient belief based on geometric patterns (yantra), symmetry and directional alignments. •Inclusion of five basic elements (Pancha maha-bhootas): 1. Fire 2. Air 3. Water 4. Earth 5. Space
  • 45. Form of energy representing elements FORM OF ENERGY ELEMENTS SOLAR FIRE WIND AIR RAIN WATER GRAVITATIONAL/ MAGNETIC EARTH SOUND SPACE
  • 46. VASTUPURUSHA MANDALA Mathematical and diagrammatic basis for generating design. Metaphysical plan of a building that incorporates the course of the heavenly bodies and supernatural forces.
  • 48. Vastu house by Khosla Associates, India The placement of spaces in the house are in synch with the plan of the Vastu Purusha Mandala (the ancient Indian science of orientation and placement).
  • 49. The main areas of the house according to the elements – Master bedroom in the Earth zone (SW), kitchen in the Fire zone (SE), and the pool and entrance in the Water zone and Air zones (N and NE), - even positions of doors, the direction of the stairs, location of beds, wardrobes and desks and the positions of the wc’s in the bathrooms had to be in accordance with the correct energy flows.
  • 50. Open space at the centre as per the Vastushastra demands

  • 52. THE TEMPLE OF SRIRANGAM The temple of Srirangam is situated at 10 degrees 52’N and 78 degrees 42’ E towards the southern tip of IndiaSrirangam (formerly Vellithirumutha gramam) is an island and a part of the city of Tiruchirappalli, in South India.
  • 53. -Symmetric in plan -open space in middle of the plot -all the openings aligned in correct position -water body(twin rivers:Couvery and Coleroon)at north east
  • 54. JAWAHAR KALA KENDRA(1986-1996): • This master piece was designed by the famous Indian architect, Charles Correa. • Plan is inspired by the original city plan of Jaipur consisting of nine squares with central square left open. • Concept of nine squares is termed as Navagrah .Each square was linked to the planet as per the characteristics of the particular planet and its astrological values and the functionality of the square.

  • 59. CONCLUSION Thus, in contrasts to this report it can be said that Antoni Gaudi was an masterpiece and the best known practitioner of Catalan Modernism. It as found that Gaudi's works had a highly individualized and distinctive style with most of his works located in Barcelona. Today his work attracts a global following with some of the most distinctive, idiosyncratic, and recognizable designs of all time due to the use of Art Noveau style of architecture. The second phase of the report made the major statement of astrology being liked with Architecture. Vaastu Shastra, a system which lasted near the beginning of Indus civilization still made impacts on design this late. Thus it was clear that form definition could be liked even with traditional means like Vaastu Shaastra.
