Editor's Notes

  • #2 Good morning, please allow me to first introduce our team member; I’m Andy, and this is Yun, Zhen, Kyong, Shen, and Hye. Our topic is managing mental pressure for working seniors in UK.
  • #3 From our analysis on various trends, we chose aging society as the subject and look for specific issue to address, followed by research in three areas. Then we suggest future design s olution.
  • #4 But first, why this topic? Let me briefly explain the reasons, the background and emerging needs surrounding this topic.
  • #5 UK will enter the post-aged society in 2025, whereas about 20% of its population will consist of people aged 65 and over, following to the demographic trends. Amongst them, working proportion will be highly increasing. Therefore, we chose UK’s working seniors aged 65+ as our target.
  • #6 We have dived into the future issue surrounding the over 65’s groups in 4 sections in terms of working context. We have confirmed that they will be actually vital and bigger group in 2025 in the working society, SO~
  • #7 We have analysed their needs for deeper understanding using PIES tools. It shows that the target group will strongly face with mental stress due to time, technology, age discrimination and retirement issues in the future. By looking at the future trend analysis, mental pressure of working seniors is chosen for our topic.
  • #8 We set key question as which design help UK seniors to spend leisure time for mental relieving. Thus, we plan to research regarding mental pressure, leisure time, and existing organisations, followed by expert interviews.
  • #9 First, we have looked at their mental trouble currently in context of working by secondary and primary research.
  • #10 Next, moving on to the survey about what they are doing in leisure time for relieving their stress, they prefer to staying at home rather than other outdoor activities.
  • #11 Thridly, we have looked at social support for UK seniors currently. For now, exsisting charity or social organisations are only supporting hobbies for retired people. However, in 2025, they will face with increasing working stress. Lack of certain programs for whom are over 65 and still working will be bigger problem for the future. Therefore, we pinpoint this problem to give solutions, considering ICT advantage learned by an expert interviewee.
  • #12 This is our future design based on virtual system. improving existing community organisations to build organic network on and offline and Door to door services, which is helpful to encourage its usability. This system should be enjoyable place for relieving stress as well as meaningful for them.
  • #13 This network is expected to help them not only relive stress and but also resolve main cause of stress, giving extra information. 4 categorised services enable individuals to communicate with others, giving valuable time. This individual value will be spreaded to social value while actively operated by governmental level.
  • #14 In 2025, Design will be COMMUNICATION KEY for UK seniors to enjoy digital well-being life, having them relive their mental pressures.
  • #15 Let’s move on to the scenario projected our design solution,
  • #16 We start with persona, chosing potential normal character in 2025.
  • #17 Ann had working stress from technological task. Connecting to the system, she can relieve stress very soon while chatting with other friends and playing game. furthermore, she can get some information about the technology learning program from advisors. This will be a good motivation to work better tomorrow.
