Descriptive And Narrative Essay
Crafting an essay on the subject of "Descriptive and Narrative Essay" presents a unique set of
challenges. Firstly, it requires a thorough understanding of the nuances and differences between
these two types of essays. Descriptive essays demand vivid and sensory details to paint a picture
for the reader, while narrative essays rely on storytelling elements to engage and captivate the
audience. Balancing these distinct approaches within a single piece necessitates careful planning
and execution to ensure coherence and clarity.
Furthermore, delving into the intricacies of each essay type involves extensive research and
analysis to grasp the fundamental principles underlying effective descriptive and narrative
writing. This process can be time-consuming and demanding, requiring in-depth exploration of
literary techniques, structural elements, and thematic considerations essential to crafting a
compelling essay.
Additionally, expressing one's thoughts and insights cohesively while adhering to the
conventions of academic writing poses its own set of challenges. It entails honing one's writing
skills to effectively convey ideas, maintain logical progression, and adhere to the prescribed
format and style guidelines.
In conclusion, navigating the complexities of composing an essay on "Descriptive and Narrative
Essay" demands a combination of critical thinking, research prowess, and proficient writing
abilities. It is a task that necessitates dedication, creativity, and meticulous attention to detail to
produce a scholarly piece that effectively explores and elucidates the intricacies of these two
distinct forms of writing.

Management is deciding if it should keep the Temecula plant open or if it should
outsource manufacturing either to mainland China or offshore China. Before Miracle

A careful analysis on the sensitivity is necessary in order to make sound business
decisions.
1. Labor Cost
According to the case we know that labor costs in china may have a big increase in
the next 10 years, from 40% totally to 10% annual increase to even 40% annual
increase.
If the labor cost will increase 40% in the next 10 years, that means it ll increase 3.4%
annually, so the NPV of costs will be $73,751,039.
If the labor cost will increase 10% annually in the next 10 years, the NPV of costs
will be $74,998,037.
If the labor cost will increase 40% annually in the next 10 years, the NPV of costs
will be $91,424,835.
We can see from previous analysis, NPV of Temecula is $94,826,678. So if labor cost
will increase differently, we ll get different NVP. But no matter how big increase it ll
be, our decision will still be outsourcing to china.
2. Electricity Price
The current electricity cost in China is 0.065USD per kilo watt hour. It is
estimated to increase by 20% over the next 10 years. Assuming the electricity cost
increase at a certain rate each year, we get the annual increase rate 1.8% (1.8%
=(1+20%)^(1/10) 1). This estimated rate is probably lower than the actually annual
increase because of increasing pressure on environmental records and fuel costs.
Thus how much does electricity cost may increase is important and the NPV model
output is sensitive to it. However, since the electricity cost in China is so low when
converted
Photography Is A Type Of Art
Photography has been around for many years. In the time that the first camera was
invented to present day, various styles of photography have evolved. Two types of
photography that are very common today are street and nature or landscape
photography. Although these styles of photography have many similarities, they have
some differences as well. The subject, cameraequipment, and location are three major
differences in these styles. All types of photographywill have a main focus, or
subject. Street photography is a type of art that focuses on the people and the art
in which that city contains. For good street photography, you want to be located in
a busy city or downtown area. Ideal locations in the US include New York,
Chicago, Los Angeles, Seattle, Las Vegas, and many more. This is because in a
large city with lots of traffic, you see many different types of people. All street
photographers have different types of styles of portraying this in their work, but the
people of a city are a main focus. Street photographers like to focus on subjects such
as construction workers working in the middle of the road, businessmen/women
rushing from point A to point B, the environment of a homeless person, and many
other things. It is also popular in street photography to capture city art like graffiti
and performers.
Equipment is very important with every photographer. The two main things that are
important for good quality photos are the lens and the camera body. Street

Benefits Of Effective Registration Methods
The proposed method was compared to 5 other registration methods. In order to
show the benefit of using the proposed piecewise registration framework, we
compared the proposed approach to a nonlinear registration using a global DCT
nonlinear model. To demonstrate the performance change caused by replacing the
linear model with the nonlinear model in a piecewise registration framework, we
compared the proposed approach to a piecewise affine registration approach. In
addition, to evaluate the standing of the proposed approach, we compared it to three
established registration methods: a) the SyN method [#Avants2008] provided in the

Rwandan Genocide
Between April and June 1994 warfare between the Hutus and Tutsis people struck in
the East African country of Rwanda. To call it a tragedy would be an understatement
when faced with the estimated death count of one million Tutsis and moderate Hutus
over the span one hundred days. The genocide resulted from the desire to control and
obtain power within Rwandaand stemmed from a history of cultural and social class
conflict amongst the rival groups. This bloodshed proved to be one the most horrific
events in history.
The Tutsi people had joined the Rwanda population during the 1300 s. Before the
colonial era, Tutsis typically occupied the higher status in the social system and the
Hutus the lower. However, mobility on the social hierarchy... Show more content on

When an attack was launched, all Tustis remaining in the country were considered
accomplices of the RPF.
In August 1993, the Organization of African Unity (OAU) and the governments in
power signed the Arusha peace agreements. It appeared to bring an end to the conflict
between the Hutu dominated government and the RPF. In October 1993, the Security
Council established the United Nations Assistance Mission for Rwanda (UNAMIR)

However, human rights violations started becoming for frequent and the security and

Erik Erikson s Personality And Sense Of Self
From the day we are born to the day they die, development is a continuous process
in which we grow as an individual and develop our sense of self. The various
factors that contribute to shaping us into the way we are, such as our memories,
experiences, the way we were raised, even our culture has the strength to impact
who we are to become. Throughout a person s lifespan, there are many obstacles
one must face in order to acquire certain skills that will be of use as we transitions
from one stage to the next. The idea of moving from one stage to a another was
derived from developmental theorist, Erik Erikson, it was his belief that one s
personality and sense of self develops in a series of stages. Additionally, the
lifespan serves as a foundation for social development, occurring in stages from
infancy to adulthood. (Berk) The necessary conflict provided by each stage serves
as a developmental milestone, in which a psychological quality will or will not be
gained. With regards to Erikson s theory, as of now, I have experienced six of the
eight stages of development. The first, being the construction of the basic trust vs.
mistrust, occurring during the time of infancy (0 1ВЅ years) According to my parents
I was described as an easy baby, with a phlegmatic temperament, therefore I was not
very fussy nor tricky to care for. However, when there was an instance where I did

Conard,
In this paper, I plan to argue the ideas by Edward Conard, in his argument that we
don t need more humanities major in our academic system. In specific, this paper
will explore the writer s claims, the gaps in his arguments and counter arguments in
this topic. My argument is important because I will challenge Conard s article with
the self fashioning s article by Keohane.
In Conard s article, he demonstrates to answer the question whether or not we need
more humanities. His answer is that we should be focus on technology and innovation
to have a better living standards. (41) His main argument is that innovation and
technology are the key to driver of the American economy and there is a need for
more talents and expertise in this area. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(43) Schools give one the time and materials to achieve all what one desire in life.
(43) In the same way, I would challenge the students to leverage their energy and
time to become the best they can be in their life. (43)
This paper also supports the self fashioning article by Keohane. Self fashioning
builds the character, personality, and focus on the student. A self fashioned student
is more likely to succeed in life in whichever line of specialization he chooses.
Likewise, I disagree with Conard on the point that innovation and technology are
more likely to bring success to the student. From experience, people who know their
personality and character are able to use in their skills, time and education to be the
best in whichever field, whether in technology and innovation or humanities. In my
view, success and failure are not a factor of chosen line of specialization rather, it is
a factor of hard work and determination to create a change. Self fashioning is more
fundamental and basic education, like authority, and intelligence and it is determined
by how people deal with small and basic things in life. Things like cleaning, washing,
and taking care of oneself are more important that education when it comes to self
fashioning.
In my life, the most common basic things derive from self fashioning. They include
taking care of oneself through right
Marginalization Of Women Analysis
Sometimes, I feel discriminated against, but it does not make me angry. It merely
astonishes me. How can any deny themselves the pleasure of my company? It s
beyond me. Zora Neale Hurston
The discourse of investigation into marginalization that involves ethnicity,
displacement and gender began in 1980 and 1990. Marginalization of women,
struggles of lower castes and economically backward communities haunted the nation
even after decolonization. Therefore we can say postcolonial works are the
documentary commentaries on poverty, caste, gender discrimination and oppression.
Marginalization of women comprising suffering of different sections found its way
into the literary discourse through the Fourth World .
Women novelists across cultures explore women s position which moves from
exaltation, victimization to self assertion. The creative writings of the colonial and

Later the colonial exploitation was in harmony with superior forms of political and

Persuasive Essay About Fire
Ever heard of a story of a little boy discovering fire for the first time? Well this little
boy s mom had a lighter that had a dolphin design on it and it was used as a
decoration piece. So, the little boy found the lighter and started to play with it and
got it to work. He then proceeded to go into the bathroom so his mom did not know
what he was doing. The little boy started to put it up to stuff to see what would
happen. The first thing he grabbed was hairspray. He played with the hairspray and
the lighter. He then managed to light the toilet paper on firewhich caused the whole
bathroom to catch on fire. The boy s mom ran into the bathroom and started to put
out the fire and when it was out she found him in his room curled up in a ball
holding his thumb because he had burned it. This little boy should have learned a
valuable lesson that day. That lesson is that fire is nothing to mess with. Many
people do not realize the risk of playing or not being careful with fire especially in
forest and dry plains.
Here is something to think about, being irresponsible around fire can cause
someone to get hurt or it could cause people to lose their home. In 2002 there was
four hundred and sixty five homes destroyed in Arizona because of wild fires
(Kennedy and Johnson). Homes could be saved if forest fires did happen because of
humans. A lot of forest fires are started by humans. As many as Ninety percent of
wildland fires in the United States are caused by humans. Some
Is Paris Burning Book Review
Dominique LaPierre s Is Paris Burning? argues that without the liberation of Paris,
Hitler s plan would have been to leave Paris as a smoldering city that nobody could
return to. The process of liberating Paris from Germany was not a one man job and
took multiple forces from the outside as well as from within Paris. LaPierre
informs the reader that upon further research into the subject of the liberation of
Paris it took many different people from many different parts of the world to get
rid of the German forces that held the capital hostage. The historians and student
researchers of the world can use the information provided as a base knowledge to

He begins with a narrative of the German forces and their meeting with Hitler and
how their actions led to the destruction of much of Paris. He gives direct quotes from
officials and generals within the German army to describe the thought process behind
these actions of Hitler and his associates. With the inclusion of the French
perspectives, how they fought back against the German forces, as well as the steps
they took to protect their city ties everything together and gives the story true
meaning. LaPierre uses others personal Narratives to give the reader an emotional
attachment to many of the characters and how the situation each one was put through

how Hitler s attitude towards France slowly grew more and more angry until he

The True Hero In Spider Man
There are all types of heroes all over the world. A hero is defined by the choices
they make and the things they achieve. Spiderman is a hero like no other. He wasn
t always Spider man, he used to be a young teen named Peter Parker. Peter lived a
difficult childhood because he was an orphan who was very timid and shy. He was
also very smart but he often got bullied. He lived with his aunt and uncle in New
York City. You could also describe him as a geeky science nerd who consistently
seeked attention from Mary Jane, who he crushed on since they were six years old.
He lived an ordinary life and only really had two real friends who were Harry and
Mary Jane. Who would think that Peter Parker would undergo such a miraculous
transformation and become the supero that he is. He was blessed with the
superpowers but yet cursed at the same time. It brought moments that caused him
hardships in his life and he had to cope with them. Without a doubt Spider man, is a
true hero that undergoes an epic journey.
In Spider man, the patterns are very similar to those of the hero s journey of motif.
The call for adventure in Spider man starts when he goes on a field trip with his
high school. They visited a genetics laboratory. While he was taking photos in the
laboratory, he was bitten on the hand by a genetically engineered super spider. At
first he didn t think anything had happened because he didn t notice any sort of
reaction but when he arrived home he passed out. His hand was

Johann Pestalozzi s work is still evident in modern practises. Most of today s
curriculum is based on child led learning because we now that children understand
concepts when they have explored and found out for themselves.
Pestalozzi opened a world famous school called the Yverdun Institute. Here he
worked with Robert Owen and Freidrich Frobel. Robert Owen was also very
concerned with equal opportunities, he believed that all children are capable of being
nurtured. He thought that children should be taught in groups according to their
capability rather than their age. This was controversial as children who weren t as
capable as their peers were generally outcast or excluded from education and made to
do manual work instead.
In today s schools, children s learning plans are also based on their stage rather than
their age. This change may have been influenced by Robert Owens work. Education
is about getting children to perform to their full potential rather than performing to
age based milestones.
Friedrich Frobel is another person highly influenced by Johann Pestalozzi s work.
He believed that children needed to be happy and healthy in order to learn. It was
also his view that play should be the corner stone of a child s education. He
encouraged children to explore their environment discover things themselves. He
emphasised the importance of outdoor learning
Lord of the Flies Compared to Animal Farm Essay
Dictators often use fear as a control tactic in their countries as they want to make
sure they have total power over their people. Fear is defined as an unpleasant and
often strong emotion caused by anticipation or awareness of danger, often causing
a person to act according to what is necessary for survival. Although fear can be
unpleasant, many people like it in different ways; some like the suspense that scary
movies bring, while others like the thrill that is created when cliff jumping. George

Napoleon uses that strategy because animals are scared and their ignorance makes
them believe that if they work harder and do what Napoleon says, they will have a
better chance of surviving. Jack s tribe also does everything he says because they
are scared to physically get hurt or killed. Therefore both leaders benefit from this
physical fear that both societies experience. Both leaders use supernatural things
and outside influences to establish fear over their society. Jack uses constantly the
beast to his own advantage. He often makes allusion of it to scare his tribe, as it is
shown when he says the beast might try to come in (Golding 177) to his guards.
This shows that he is definitely afraid of the beast even though he tries to reassure
his tribe to not be afraid, which perfectly links with his previous words of this head
is for the beast. It s a gift (Golding 151) which clearly proves his fear of the beast,
while at the same time using that as a way to persuade his tribe that they are safe
with him as long as they do what he says. Napoleon uses lies about outside enemies
to his own advantage. Napoleon claims that Snowball is a traitor and was secretly
frequenting the farm by night (Orwell 52) causing panic in the animals. Therefore

Lab Topic: Effects of Osmosis with Potato Cells in Sucrose Solution
Introduction:
Small slices of potato are placed in six concentrations of sucrose: 0.0 M, 0.1 M,
0.2 M, 0.3 M, 0.4 M, and 0.5 M. The initial mass of potato is noted before being
placed in the solution. The potato remained in the solution for one hour then the

Once the hour was over, the potato slices were removed from the solution, dried off
in a paper towel, and weighed once again. In the 0.0, 0.1, and 0.2 M of sucrose
concentrations the final mass of the potato increased. Therefore H2O enters the
potato cell because the solution is hypotonic. In the 0.3, 0.4, and 0.5 M of sucrose
concentration the final mass of potato decreases. The solution is hypertonic which
causes H2O to exit the potato cells through the semipermeable phospholipid bilayer.
The results prove that the different molarities of concentration affect the mass of the
potato in different ways; the mass of potato either increased or decreased depending
on the molarity of sucrose concentration.
Caption: The line of best fit shows the pattern that as molarity increases in the sucrose
concentration then the percent change in mass of potato decreases.
Discussion:
Determining the Osmotic Concentration of Potato Tuber Cells When Placed in
Sucrose Solutions
In this experiment, the osmotic concentration is found with potato slices placed in
sucrose solutions. Osmosis in this model is the net movement of water between the
potato cell and the sucrose solution. The movement of water is determined by the
molarity of sucrose. As the molarity of sucrose increased then the concentration in the
solution also increased. H2O will move through the cell membrane to areas of higher
concentration in order to reach equilibrium. If cells are placed
The Role Of Wolves In The Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem

Yellowstone is thinking about reintroducing more wolves into their park. The
wolves are growing and eating most of the animals there. They shouldn t introduce
wolves back Yellowstone park because there are already plenty of them. Even more
of them would kill most of the animals living there. For example, the wolves have
been growing a lot over the past years there are 400 450 wolves in the Greater
Yellowstone Ecosystem. They shouldn t have wolves in Yellowstone because it will
kill the other animals. We don t want animals getting hurt or even extinct because it
would be bad not being able to have enough animals. A couple hunters have been

Essay about Problems with Interpersonal Communication
What, what did you say? I often find myself saying this when talking with children.
The likely culprit of why is poor listening habits. Most people spend mere time
listening than they spend on any other communication activity, yet a large
percentage of people never learn to listen well. (TLSC, 2008) The above example is
what I like to call pseudo listening. People will be thinking about something else but
appear to be listening and only get about half the intended message. Recently at my
father s (Ron) companybecause of a pseudo listening instance a $400,000 dollar

this wrong information to the planning department at Ron s company. In the end this
resulted in the final product being rejected. This caused Company B a great deal of

clarification questions. Which, would have resulted in Ron and Company B both
being satisfied with the product? One of the other factors I mentioned was Mr. X

Comparing Dogen And The Sixth Patriarch
A Japanese philosopher we have studies extensively is Dogen. He is a 13th century
Japanese s Buddhist priest who founded the SЕЌtЕЌ School of Zen in Japan. Dogen
focused on the importance of the sitting meditation of zazen as a method of achieving
Zen and enlightenment though not thinking/ thinking beyond. Dogen s ideas differed
to that of the Sixth Patriarch in The Platform Sutra of the Sixth Patriarch. This
Buddhist script that was composed in China during the 8th to 13th century focused
on teachings and stories of Е›Д«la (conduct), dhyДЃna (meditation) and prajГ±ДЃ

While everyone has the same Buddha nature they still need to collaborate the body
and mind to eliminate the constant reasoning and distracting that holding on causes.
The method of obtaining enlightenment differs lightly between Dogen and the Sixth
Patriarch. While both sources see the transition of enlightenment to be a search for
the inner self to find the inner mind Dogen sees views the less of a transition a more
of journey. The Sixth Patriarch believes enlightenment can occur here and now
through self nature, one s real self immediately appears (Olson Buddhist Sources,
p.339). While enlightenment cannot be physically obtained it can be realized and
show the true conscious self. Referring back to Buddha nature anyone, even a
barbarian has the ability to become enlightened, as Buddha nature is equally present

Religion and Cultural Identity Essays
Religion and Cultural Identity
Is it possible to be a Muslim without believing the validity of the prophecies of
Mohammed? Is it possible to be a Christian without believing in the resurrection of
Jesus? My definition of religion transformed greatly during my studies the past few
months. Even as a religion major at St. Olaf College I thought of religion very
narrowly, as a construct of metaphysical beliefs. But I ve come to realize that religion
runs far deeper than my Lutheran mind previously conceived.
By studying cultures and religions other than my own in Turkey, Morocco, Egypt and
Greece it became clear to me that religion plays a huge part in shaping ones cultural
identity. Bringing this cultural identity viewpoint to its ... Show more content on

The research presents itself chronologically by topic and is subdivided by country.
Searching back to its beginnings, religion has a profound impact on cultural identity
through the presence of deep and ancient roots that connect a people to their glorious,
memorable and often idealized histories. By equating a given religion with the
success of a society often times national pride and religious pride become intertwined.
Though this manifests itself differently in each country, throughout all four surveyed
this attribute seemed to be present.
Turkey, though once the throne of Christendom, it began a new and glorious religious
history starting in 1453 with the sack of Constantinople by the Islamic Turkish forces.
During the next half millennium the strong Ottoman state is primarily controlled by
the Islamic Sultanate and Caliphate. Istanbul under the Ottoman Empire was a, if not
the, cultural center of the Islamic world. The empire brought great wealth, knowledge
and culture into the modern day lands of Turkey. Although the modern Republic tried
to suppress its Ottoman past, Turkey s Islamic beginnings remain a source of great
Turkish pride. Though most people can no longer access their history through original
Ottoman texts it is impossible to hide the

Patty Cake and Bonita Bacon were best friends. Patty was very short and always
wore shoes with a high heel. It helped her to be a little bit taller. Bonita was a tall,
slim girl with pink hair. The two met each other at the City Pancake and Waffle
House, about three years ago. Every Saturday morning for the past three years, they
would meet each other there, for a chit chat and breakfast.

Sammy answered. EZ Egg.
Just as he said that, EZ Egg stepped out of his car.

Literature Review On Media Violence
PSY 4111 Literature Review. E. Langslow
Trends across research suggest exposure to media violence positively correlates with
subsequent violent behaviour
In this era of internet connectivity, access to an array of violent media stimuli is
readily available. Scientific exploration of the effects of such exposure on real world
violent behaviour carries potential ramifications for the safety of global communities.
Media violence is understood here as stimuli that includes depictions of violence or
calls to violent action and includes image, video, television and gaming. Violent
behavior is defined as behavior causing emotional or physical harm expressed
verbally or physically. Whilst there remains no causal proof for the ... Show more

The Bobo doll study found that children were more likely to imitate violent behaviour
they witnessed in a film if they perceived the behaviour would generate positive
outcomes (Bandura, Ross, Ross, 1963). Later findings across three decades of
cognitive research on the effects of learning and priming concluded thoughts are
connected by similar association, with media stimuli cognitively relating to memories
and responses to trigger violent schemata retrieval in real world situations (Berkowitz,
1984; Bushman Geen, 1990; L Rowell Huesmann Eron, 2013). Findings in two
general aggression model (GAM) studies that complement cognitive frameworks,
both monitored increases in physical arousal as potential determinants for short term
violent behavior. Again, positive correlations were found following exposure to
media violence.(Bushman Anderson, 2001; Thomas, Horton, Lippincott, Drabman,
1977). Environmental factors
A range of studies assert that causes of violent behavior are complex at the level of
environmental influence and compare other learning, modelling and disinhibiting
factors. This is an area where opposition to the hypothesis is more common. Two
longitudinal studies assessing levels of violence pre and post the introduction of
television found a positive correlation, however
Richard Nixon Pros And Cons
Richard Nixon was the 37th President of the United States, who dealt with much
controversy. Nixon started as a straightforward politician who was bringing
groundbreaking advancements to the fields he worked in. But all that work would
not be enough to fight against the drama that would later follow him during his
presidency. After the disastrous end to presidency, Nixon would try with all his might
to right his wrongs. During Nixon s bout in the White House, he made a mistake that
would overshadow all his other achievements.
While Richard Nixon was a politician, he achieved many great things. While Nixon
was
Vice President he did many things. While Vice President to Eisenhower, Nixon
made the position important. He took National Security Meetings, when the
President could not. He also went on good will trips to gain support for the
American s during the Cold War (Nixon Library). This is an important achievement
because the role of Vice President did not have much meaning before then, other
than as a backup in the unlikely event something were to happen to the president.
This also shows he was always very involved with his job and strived to be good at
it. When Nixon won the 1968 election he did many things in his tenure as president.
During his presidency, Nixon succeeded in ending American fighting in Vietnam,
improved relations between the US and USSR, and relations between the US and
China. This has meaning as it shows that Nixon was good at his job, and truly

the issue of misinterpreting section 446(e), and distinguishing between correction of
an error and change in method of accounting. The court upheld a $5.4 million tax
deficiency judgement against a California auto dealership, JHH Motor Cars Inc. and
denied a claim for a refund. According to the judgement of the court, the taxpayer had
not received automatic consent from IRS for change of its accounting method from
LIFO to specific identificationmethod. But as the taxpayer used the specific
identification method for valuing his vehicle inventory for seven years, there was a

The sale did not occur in 2001 and JHH continued to use the specific identification
method for its inventory for 2001 through 2007. But later it tried to amend the tax
return for the corresponding years to correct an error of using the specific
identification method and reverting back to LIFO inventory method, and requested a
refund. After JHH received its refund, IRS sent a notice of deficiency for the years
covered under amended returns. JHH filed a petition with the Tax Court.
Issues involved in the case:
i.Whether JHH received automatic consent from IRS to change its method of
accounting for its vehicle inventory from LIFO to specific identification method for
the tax years in issue. ii. If not, whether JHH changed its method of accounting for
2001 through 2007 notwithstanding its failure to obtain IRS consent. iii. If so,
whether there was a second change in its method of accounting when JHH attempted
to revert to LIFO method of accounting for its vehicle inventory by filing amended
tax returns for 2002 and 2003.
Section 446(a) states that the taxable income of a taxpayer shall be computed on the
basis of the accounting method under which he/she computes his/her income

The Importance Of Leadership And Objectives Of
Leadership...
To make the most of leadership development, you need to plan for it carefully. As
mentioned in the earlier section, you can minimise the risk of failure with a
leadership program if you take the appropriate steps beforehand. In the final section,
we ll provide you the five essential steps you need to take to guarantee your leadership
development is effective in achieving the benefits.
Step 1: Define your businesses understanding of leadership
Before you Google leadership development programs and pick one for you or your
organisation, you need to consider what leadership means. It is essential to outline
the importance of leadership, the meaning of leadership and the objectives of
leadership development before signing up with a specific course. While leadership
development is about enhancing your understanding of leadership and the skills
required to lead, you need to have an organisation wide understanding of it before you
can start with improving your knowledge on the topic.
Defining your business understand of leadership is best achieved by answering the
following questions:
What does the business value the most? Outline the key values that define your
organisation and the work that you do.
What is the business culture you want to build success on and what are the
behaviours that you think will help in achieving this? Every business needs to have a
set of beliefs guiding its work and you must be able to identify this and figure out the
behaviours and actions that

Importance Of Identity In Things Fall Apart
Finding Your Identity Having an identity and more importantly finding your identity
is very important when it comes to finding and achieving your purpose in life. It is
very difficult to find your purpose when you don t have a clear self identity. Merriam
Webster dictionary defines identity in this context as the distinguishing character or
personality of an individual , and that perfectly represents what Nwoye experiences in
the novel Things Fall Apartwhen the European missionaries come to Nigeria and start
teaching the Ibo villagers about Jesus Christ and Christianity. Nwoye experiences a
change in his religious identity because the missionaries words really get through to
him, and he really understands what they are trying to teach. Identity is mentioned
multiple times in Cosmopolitanism as Kwame Anthony Appiahputs an emphasis on
finding your identity and having a specific identity to be able to help other people
when they need it. Nwoye always thought that his purpose in life was to follow the
faith of his fellow villagers, but once he heard the teachings of the Christian
missionaries he realized his real purpose, and his religious identity, was to spread the
word of Jesus Christ. Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebeis a book set in a small

sequences and want to give an example each how to calculate with those sequences.
First I want to give a short definition of each sequence.
An arithmetic sequence is a sequence of numbers in which each succeeding term
differs from the preceding term by the same amount. This amount is known as the
common difference. (Bluman, A. G. 2500, page 221)
An example for an arithmetic sequence is:
1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, ... (The common difference is 2. (Bluman, A. G. 2500, page 221)
A geometric sequence is a sequence of terms in which each term ... Show more

For a better overview I write everything down again: n = 9 d = $ 25 a1 = $ 100 a9 = ?
I use the following formula to find out a9: an = a1 + (n 1)d
Now we put the numbers we have into the formula: a9 = 100 + (9 1)(25) a9 = 100 +
8(25) a9 = 100 + 200 a9 = 300 a9= $ 300
Now that we have a9 we can we can calculate the costs for a 90 foot tower with the
following formula:
Sn = n(a1 + a n) / 2
S9 = 9(100 + 300) / 2
S9 = 9(400) / 2
S9 = 4.5(400)
S9= 1,800
S9 = $ 1,800
The cost for a 90 foot CB tower will be $ 1,800.
This exercise involves an arithmetic sequence because the cost of the labor for each
succeeding 10 feet is $25 more than the preceding 10 feet. The first 10 feet the cost of
the labor is $ 100. The next 10 feet are $ 25 more and the next 10 feet $ 25 more and
so on.
10 feet = $ 100; 20 feet = $ 125; 30 feet = $ 150; 40 feet = $ 175; ...

Introduction
Fort Canning is a well known hill located at the South of Singapore. It was called
Bukit Larangan(Forbidden Hill) before Sir Stamford Raffles arrived, as the locals
believed that 14th century kings had built their palaces on the hill. It turned out that
they were right, as later on when some of the vegetation was removed ancient ruins
were found. Archeology at the site has also uncovered relics, which may suggest that
the hill used to be a trading center before foreign forces invaded in the 1300s.
After Raffles arrived, he built his residence on the hill, as he liked the view it offered

Repatriation In The Parthenon Marbles
Museums contain vast collections of art from different places around the globe.
Many of these art pieces have been acquired through donations from private collectors
or are bought by the museums themselves ( Collections Management Policy ). With
vast amounts of ancient artworks inhabiting these museums, the issue of repatriation
comes up. Repatriation is the return of artwork the country in which they originate
from. Many nations and cultural groups wish to regain art which they deem
important to their cultural heritage which gives them a sense of nationalism. Ancient
art has been looted through war, expansion into other territories, and looting through
illegal means. This has caused many nations around the world to lose pieces of art
which they deem important to their culture. In the case of the ParthenonMarbles, the
ownership of the pieces which came from the Parthenon is debated between England
and Greece. The Parthenon began to be built in 447 BC with the design help of
Iktinos who mathematically calculated the layout of the temple and Phidias who
along with other sculptures decorated the building with countless statues and friezes
which adorned the temple (Gardner). In the Early 1800s the Earl of Elgin received a
permit from the Ottoman Empire which allowed him to remove many of the
sculptures (Gould). However, questions over the legality of the permit Greeks have
made strong pushes to have the Parthenon Marbles returned to Greece to be displayed

Unique Characteristics of Soviet Montage
Unlike Montage where by a combination series of short shots are edited into a
sequence to condense space, time, and information, Soviet Montage on the other
hand is a style of filmmaking that is evolved to immerse the audience in a story
and disguise technique was turned upside down in order to create the opposite
emotional effect to bring the audience to the edge of their seat, and in the case of
the Odessa Steps sequence, to push the viewer towards a feeling of vertigo. In a
simpler form, Soviet Montage combination series of short shots are edited into a

A nondiegetic element exists outside the story world. There is no connection between
the slaughters of the animal. The use of such nondiegetic shots was a total direct
portrayal of Eisenstein s theory on intellectual montage creating effects through
conflict such as the juxtaposing of shots that have no direct connection as all.
It is also shown in a film called The Godfather, where killing scene was shown
during the baptism of Michael s nephew. The whole scene was to show the murder
baptize Michael into a life of crime. Another example is from a film called
Apocalypse Now, juxtaposing shot was used in the execution of Colonel Kurtz.
Another example of contemporary films adopting intellectual montage would be In
Boogie Nights, Dirk Diggler announces at the conclusion of filming a pornographic
scene that he can do it again . There is then a quick cut to a champagne bottle
uncorking at a post shoot party. This particular scene represents both ejaculation and
Dirk s celebratory initiation into the world of porn.
In a nutshell, Souviet Montage involves editing as a much more pronounced feature
than in German Expressionism. It explores the ways in which each shot gained
intensified meaning from its relationship to the shots deliberately placed before and
after it. For Eisenstein it is in the tension (or conflict) between shots that meaning is
created. Montage cinema demands that audiences continuously search for the

Gender Pay Gap Summary Response Essay
Inequality has been a dilemma for several years in countless different ways. A
persistent problem with disproportion of income between women and men has been
lingering within many companies in the United States. It has been said that women
earn less money than men in the workplace for many different reasons. Some of
these reasons are that women have not spent enough time in the office to be
rewarded with raises and bonuses because they are busy with their home lives and
taking care of their children, they, unlike men, have been taught to be timid and
unaggressive which ultimately steers them away from requesting higher pay, or they
do not meet the qualifications to receive promotions (Hymowitz, 2008). This essay is

In fact, progress for women and minorities in terms of both pay and power has
stalled or regressed at many of the nation s biggest companies. This inequality
shapes perceptions about who can or should be a leader. (Hymowitz, 2008) This
statement shows applicable reasoning as to why it is necessary to have equal pay
between women and men in the workplace. When a company decides they are going
to pay someone less money solely based off their gender without regards to their
experience, it is discrimination and therefore the company is no longer an equal
opportunity employer. Such practices need to be banned so our nation can truly say
that we are all equal. Women need to form an alliance to prevent such discrimination
from occurring and force our government to prohibit inequality in companies.
In conclusion it has been proven that inequality still exists within companies. If
women want to be paid based off their skills and not their gender, they need to
become aware of the fact that this problem is still around and fight to get rid of it.
Carol Hymowitz s article reflects on the need to make a change in businesses around
the world to offer diversity and equality. The change has to start with women coming
together and taking a stand against discrimination. With constant change and growth
within our country, there is no reason

where a meeting of the government would take place, including Mohamed Aidid.
The American forces gathered outside the building and attacked rapidly into the
building, hoping to kill any of the members of the Somali Alliance. The Task Force
found out that Aidid had not been at the building. In less than 30 minutes, the U.S.
were surrounded by the Somalis. The Task Force were in a bad place. A militant
had fired an RPG at one of the Black Hawks, causing the helicopters to crash. A few
hours later, another RPG targeted a Black Hawk, but the helicopter managed to fly
away to the safety of a U.S. base. A ground convoy had been released to go to the
crash site of the Black Hawks. 3 blocks away from the site, the Task Force had
received news that another Black Hawk had been shot down. Another convoy had
been released to aid the 2nd Black Hawk. The 2 convoys had to salvage whatever
they can find, picking up the wounded and the dead, as they were under fire. The 2
convoys had found each other and merged to provide better protection, as they
headed back to H.Q. Bill Clinton had withdrawn the forces, in defeat and in
Week 7 Weak Curriculum Vsinadequateinst
Weak Curriculum vs. Inadequate Instruction Melissa Mouradjian Grand Canyon
University November 12, 2014 Donald Schielke Curriculum and inadequate
instruction both have their pros and cons when it comes to the decision making
process of what works best to achieve higher level learning among students.
Curriculum mainly focuses on the knowledge and skills that are important to learn
where as instruction is what learning will be achieved to meet the needs of students,
standardized testing, and outcomes. Teachers in the 21st century have to employ
instructional strategies that are innovative, research proven techniques/strategies,
technologies, and real world resources contexts in order to differentiate among the

Standard Based Test Scores The litmus test that is used to show teacher competency,
is a small scale test that is controlled and monitored to show if effective approaches to
instructional practices are being implemented. The test scores also generates data
about what works well and would also reveal what modifications are needed to
empower teachers/districts with the capacity to implement approaches to
instructional practices and designs. Teachers are now being held accountable for their
instructional practices and how well students are mastering the content that they
teach. According to O Conner (2007) most research studies support claims that
academic ability is important for teachers to possess and that formal teacher
preparation and teaching experience may have only modest effects on student
achievement test results (pgs.172 173). Should Grading System Measure Efforts or
Participation? The grading system should measure student s efforts and participation
in the grading scale. Standards based grading systems should measure a student s
most recent level of mastery. The standards based grading system uses a grading scale
of 4, 3, 2, and 1 which corresponds to performance and content standards. This means
using assignments that assess students knowledge of materials being taught. In my
opinion, grading systems
What Is The Purpose Of Apollo 8
The stated purpose of Apollo 8 was the first manned mission to land on the moon.
Going to the moon the crew entered the lunar orbit in christmas eve December 24,
1968. During the evening of that day they had a broadcast, between the earth and the
moon in the spacecraft taking pictures. In being specific Jim Lovell was on board
this flight and was first manned orbital flight around the moon. The only innovation
in Apollo 8 there was almost a burn in the spacecraft, But if it had lasted the correct
amount of time the spacecraft would have ended. Nothing had happened to Apollo 8
just almost. If so if it had ended that would of been a very bad. But the good thing it
was safe and the spacecraft went out good. In the earthrise, taken

Moby Dick And Slavery As Its Parallel
Moby Dick and Slavery as its Parallel
While the topic of slavery is never discussed explicitly in Herman Melville s Moby
Dick, racial disparities and Melville s attitude towards them are portrayed both
subliminally and prominently throughout the novel. By creating a parallel to the
slave industry with the whaling industry, Melville is able to indirectly criticize the
injustice of slavery. Moby Dick was published at a time where the country was on the
brink of the Civil War and whaling and the slave trade were the most profitable
industries. The narrator of the novel; Ishmael, openly mocked white and Christian
supremacy in America. It can be understood by a modern reader that the novel entails
a metaphor comparing slavery to the whaling industry and gives insight to Melville s
standpoint on racial inequalities. Throughout the entirety of the novel, the inhumane
tactics of whaling is used as an extended metaphor of slavery and the pursuit, capture,
and killing of runaway slaves to help readers understand the brutal and unethical
nature of slavery.
Throughout the 19th century, the whaling industry was one of the largest sources of
economic prosperity in the United States. Spermaceti oil was harvested from Sperm
Whales used as an energy source for light and many more essential parts of people s
lives ( What Products... ). Whaling was an extremely dangerous and brutal practice
that involved the inhumane capture and torture of essentially harmless creatures.

Practical Investigation Of Enthalpy Of Solution
Practical Investigation: Enthalpy of Solution
Introduction
The enthalpy of a substance or solution refers to the chemical energy or heat content
that is stored within the substance. When a substance undergoes a reaction, the
chemical energy in the substance is released or more energy gets absorbed into the
substance; this is known as exothermic and endothermic reactions, respectively.
Within this practical, the aim was to investigate the change in stored chemical energy
of a sodium chloride solution by measuring the temperature change that occurs when
sodium chloride is added to distilled water. The experiment was carried out by using
a calorimeter, to contain any energy that could be released in the reaction, and also a
hand held ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Measure 100mL of distilled water in the measuring cylinder and pour it into the
calorimeter. Place the cup on the magnetic stirrer and add the magnetic flea, place the
coffee cup lid on top of the cup and push the hand held thermometer through the hole.
Start the magnetic stirrer and the timer at the same time and measure the temperature
at 30 second intervals for 2.5 minutes. At the 3 minute mark add the weighed sodium
chloride into the water in the calorimeter and keep stirring. Record solution
temperature every 20 seconds for 2 minutes and then every minute for 2 minutes Stop
stirrer and clean calorimeter then repeat above procedure using a digital temperature
probe. Plot graphs of temperature vs time for the two Extrapolate the line of best fit
beyond the data points and determine the change in temperature (О”T). Use the
change in temperature to calculate the change in enthalpy (О”H) in kJ per mole.
Compare the experimental results obtained from the hand held thermometer and the
digital prove with the theoretical overall enthalpy of solution.

A careful analysis on the sensitivity is necessary in order to make sound business decisions. 1. Labor Cost According to the case we know that labor costs in china may have a big increase in the next 10 years, from 40% totally to 10% annual increase to even 40% annual increase. If the labor cost will increase 40% in the next 10 years, that means it ll increase 3.4% annually, so the NPV of costs will be $73,751,039. If the labor cost will increase 10% annually in the next 10 years, the NPV of costs will be $74,998,037. If the labor cost will increase 40% annually in the next 10 years, the NPV of costs will be $91,424,835. We can see from previous analysis, NPV of Temecula is $94,826,678. So if labor cost will increase differently, we ll get different NVP. But no matter how big increase it ll be, our decision will still be outsourcing to china. 2. Electricity Price The current electricity cost in China is 0.065USD per kilo watt hour. It is estimated to increase by 20% over the next 10 years. Assuming the electricity cost increase at a certain rate each year, we get the annual increase rate 1.8% (1.8% =(1+20%)^(1/10) 1). This estimated rate is probably lower than the actually annual increase because of increasing pressure on environmental records and fuel costs. Thus how much does electricity cost may increase is important and the NPV model output is sensitive to it. However, since the electricity cost in China is so low when converted

Two types of photography that are very common today are street and nature or landscape photography. Although these styles of photography have many similarities, they have some differences as well. The subject, cameraequipment, and location are three major differences in these styles. All types of photographywill have a main focus, or subject. Street photography is a type of art that focuses on the people and the art in which that city contains. For good street photography, you want to be located in a busy city or downtown area. Ideal locations in the US include New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Seattle, Las Vegas, and many more. This is because in a large city with lots of traffic, you see many different types of people. All street photographers have different types of styles of portraying this in their work, but the people of a city are a main focus. Street photographers like to focus on subjects such as construction workers working in the middle of the road, businessmen/women rushing from point A to point B, the environment of a homeless person, and many other things. It is also popular in street photography to capture city art like graffiti and performers. Equipment is very important with every photographer. The two main things that are important for good quality photos are the lens and the camera body. Street

In order to show the benefit of using the proposed piecewise registration framework, we compared the proposed approach to a nonlinear registration using a global DCT nonlinear model. To demonstrate the performance change caused by replacing the linear model with the nonlinear model in a piecewise registration framework, we compared the proposed approach to a piecewise affine registration approach. In addition, to evaluate the standing of the proposed approach, we compared it to three established registration methods: a) the SyN method [#Avants2008] provided in the Advanced Normalization Tools (ANTs) software package http://http:/ /stnava.github.io/ANTs. • 7. Erik Erikson s Personality And Sense Of Self From the day we are born to the day they die, development is a continuous process in which we grow as an individual and develop our sense of self. The various factors that contribute to shaping us into the way we are, such as our memories, experiences, the way we were raised, even our culture has the strength to impact who we are to become. Throughout a person s lifespan, there are many obstacles one must face in order to acquire certain skills that will be of use as we transitions from one stage to the next. The idea of moving from one stage to a another was derived from developmental theorist, Erik Erikson, it was his belief that one s personality and sense of self develops in a series of stages. Additionally, the lifespan serves as a foundation for social development, occurring in stages from infancy to adulthood. (Berk) The necessary conflict provided by each stage serves as a developmental milestone, in which a psychological quality will or will not be gained. With regards to Erikson s theory, as of now, I have experienced six of the eight stages of development. The first, being the construction of the basic trust vs. mistrust, occurring during the time of infancy (0 1ВЅ years) According to my parents I was described as an easy baby, with a phlegmatic temperament, therefore I was not very fussy nor tricky to care for. In specific, this paper will explore the writer s claims, the gaps in his arguments and counter arguments in this topic. My argument is important because I will challenge Conard s article with the self fashioning s article by Keohane. In Conard s article, he demonstrates to answer the question whether or not we need more humanities. His answer is that we should be focus on technology and innovation to have a better living standards. (43) In the same way, I would challenge the students to leverage their energy and time to become the best they can be in their life. (43) This paper also supports the self fashioning article by Keohane. Self fashioning builds the character, personality, and focus on the student. A self fashioned student is more likely to succeed in life in whichever line of specialization he chooses. Likewise, I disagree with Conard on the point that innovation and technology are more likely to bring success to the student. From experience, people who know their personality and character are able to use in their skills, time and education to be the best in whichever field, whether in technology and innovation or humanities. In my view, success and failure are not a factor of chosen line of specialization rather, it is a factor of hard work and determination to create a change. Self fashioning is more fundamental and basic education, like authority, and intelligence and it is determined by how people deal with small and basic things in life. Things like cleaning, washing, and taking care of oneself are more important that education when it comes to self fashioning. In my life, the most common basic things derive from self fashioning. They include taking care of oneself through right

Robert Owen was also very concerned with equal opportunities, he believed that all children are capable of being nurtured. He thought that children should be taught in groups according to their capability rather than their age. This was controversial as children who weren t as capable as their peers were generally outcast or excluded from education and made to do manual work instead. Fear is defined as an unpleasant and often strong emotion caused by anticipation or awareness of danger, often causing a person to act according to what is necessary for survival. Although fear can be unpleasant, many people like it in different ways; some like the suspense that scary movies bring, while others like the thrill that is created when cliff jumping. Napoleon uses that strategy because animals are scared and their ignorance makes them believe that if they work harder and do what Napoleon says, they will have a better chance of surviving. Jack s tribe also does everything he says because they are scared to physically get hurt or killed. Therefore both leaders benefit from this physical fear that both societies experience. Both leaders use supernatural things and outside influences to establish fear over their society. Jack uses constantly the beast to his own advantage. He often makes allusion of it to scare his tribe, as it is shown when he says the beast might try to come in (Golding 177) to his guards. This shows that he is definitely afraid of the beast even though he tries to reassure his tribe to not be afraid, which perfectly links with his previous words of this head is for the beast. It s a gift (Golding 151) which clearly proves his fear of the beast, while at the same time using that as a way to persuade his tribe that they are safe with him as long as they do what he says. Once the hour was over, the potato slices were removed from the solution, dried off in a paper towel, and weighed once again. In the 0.0, 0.1, and 0.2 M of sucrose concentrations the final mass of the potato increased. Therefore H2O enters the potato cell because the solution is hypotonic. In the 0.3, 0.4, and 0.5 M of sucrose concentration the final mass of potato decreases. The solution is hypertonic which causes H2O to exit the potato cells through the semipermeable phospholipid bilayer. The results prove that the different molarities of concentration affect the mass of the potato in different ways; the mass of potato either increased or decreased depending on the molarity of sucrose concentration. Caption: The line of best fit shows the pattern that as molarity increases in the sucrose concentration then the percent change in mass of potato decreases. Discussion: Determining the Osmotic Concentration of Potato Tuber Cells When Placed in Sucrose Solutions In this experiment, the osmotic concentration is found with potato slices placed in sucrose solutions. Osmosis in this model is the net movement of water between the potato cell and the sucrose solution. The movement of water is determined by the molarity of sucrose. As the molarity of sucrose increased then the concentration in the solution also increased. H2O will move through the cell membrane to areas of higher concentration in order to reach equilibrium. The method of obtaining enlightenment differs lightly between Dogen and the Sixth Patriarch. While both sources see the transition of enlightenment to be a search for the inner self to find the inner mind Dogen sees views the less of a transition a more of journey. The Sixth Patriarch believes enlightenment can occur here and now through self nature, one s real self immediately appears (Olson Buddhist Sources, p.339). While enlightenment cannot be physically obtained it can be realized and show the true conscious self. Referring back to Buddha nature anyone, even a barbarian has the ability to become enlightened, as Buddha nature is equally present in everyone. So non being things cannot become enlightened, as they are unable to undergo the transformation to enrich the Buddha nature. Dogen has a more open ended answer to this question. While something that is nonliving cannot go through zazen it can still however undertake kyo ryaku as they have the Buddha nature inside them so are on the lasting journey of forgetting the self to become enlightened. This inequality shapes perceptions about who can or should be a leader. (Hymowitz, 2008) This statement shows applicable reasoning as to why it is necessary to have equal pay between women and men in the workplace. When a company decides they are going to pay someone less money solely based off their gender without regards to their experience, it is discrimination and therefore the company is no longer an equal opportunity employer. Such practices need to be banned so our nation can truly say that we are all equal. Women need to form an alliance to prevent such discrimination from occurring and force our government to prohibit inequality in companies. As the Task Force had interrogated the 2 men, they gained knowledge as to a base (a building,) where a meeting of the government would take place, including Mohamed Aidid. The American forces gathered outside the building and attacked rapidly into the building, hoping to kill any of the members of the Somali Alliance. The Task Force found out that Aidid had not been at the building. In less than 30 minutes, the U.S. were surrounded by the Somalis. The Task Force were in a bad place. Week 7 Weak Curriculum Vsinadequateinst Weak Curriculum vs. Inadequate Instruction Melissa Mouradjian Grand Canyon University November 12, 2014 Donald Schielke Curriculum and inadequate instruction both have their pros and cons when it comes to the decision making process of what works best to achieve higher level learning among students. Curriculum mainly focuses on the knowledge and skills that are important to learn where as instruction is what learning will be achieved to meet the needs of students, standardized testing, and outcomes. Teachers in the 21st century have to employ instructional strategies that are innovative, research proven techniques/strategies, technologies, and real world resources contexts in order to differentiate among the many... Standard Based Test Scores The litmus test that is used to show teacher competency, is a small scale test that is controlled and monitored to show if effective approaches to instructional practices are being implemented. The test scores also generates data about what works well and would also reveal what modifications are needed to empower teachers/districts with the capacity to implement approaches to instructional practices and designs. Teachers are now being held accountable for their instructional practices and how well students are mastering the content that they teach. According to O Conner (2007) most research studies support claims that academic ability is important for teachers to possess and that formal teacher preparation and teaching experience may have only modest effects on student achievement test results (pgs.172 173). Should Grading System Measure Efforts or Participation? The grading system should measure student s efforts and participation in the grading scale. Standards based grading systems should measure a student s most recent level of mastery. The standards based grading system uses a grading scale of 4, 3, 2, and 1 which corresponds to performance and content standards. This means using assignments that assess students knowledge of materials being taught. In my opinion, grading systems

Going to the moon the crew entered the lunar orbit in christmas eve December 24, 1968. During the evening of that day they had a broadcast, between the earth and the moon in the spacecraft taking pictures. In being specific Jim Lovell was on board this flight and was first manned orbital flight around the moon. The only innovation in Apollo 8 there was almost a burn in the spacecraft, But if it had lasted the correct amount of time the spacecraft would have ended. Nothing had happened to Apollo 8 just almost. If so if it had ended that would of been a very bad. But the good thing it was safe and the spacecraft went out good. In the earthrise, taken

Moby Dick And Slavery As Its Parallel Moby Dick and Slavery as its Parallel While the topic of slavery is never discussed explicitly in Herman Melville s Moby Dick, racial disparities and Melville s attitude towards them are portrayed both subliminally and prominently throughout the novel. By creating a parallel to the slave industry with the whaling industry, Melville is able to indirectly criticize the injustice of slavery. Moby Dick was published at a time where the country was on the brink of the Civil War and whaling and the slave trade were the most profitable industries. The narrator of the novel; Ishmael, openly mocked white and Christian supremacy in America. It can be understood by a modern reader that the novel entails a metaphor comparing slavery to the whaling industry and gives insight to Melville s standpoint on racial inequalities. Throughout the entirety of the novel, the inhumane tactics of whaling is used as an extended metaphor of slavery and the pursuit, capture, and killing of runaway slaves to help readers understand the brutal and unethical nature of slavery. Throughout the 19th century, the whaling industry was one of the largest sources of economic prosperity in the United States. Spermaceti oil was harvested from Sperm Whales used as an energy source for light and many more essential parts of people s lives ( What Products... ). Whaling was an extremely dangerous and brutal practice that involved the inhumane capture and torture of essentially harmless creatures. ...the harpooner

Practical Investigation Of Enthalpy Of Solution Practical Investigation: Enthalpy of Solution Introduction The enthalpy of a substance or solution refers to the chemical energy or heat content that is stored within the substance. When a substance undergoes a reaction, the chemical energy in the substance is released or more energy gets absorbed into the substance; this is known as exothermic and endothermic reactions, respectively. Within this practical, the aim was to investigate the change in stored chemical energy of a sodium chloride solution by measuring the temperature change that occurs when sodium chloride is added to distilled water. The experiment was carried out by using a calorimeter, to contain any energy that could be released in the reaction, and also a hand held ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Measure 100mL of distilled water in the measuring cylinder and pour it into the calorimeter. Place the cup on the magnetic stirrer and add the magnetic flea, place the coffee cup lid on top of the cup and push the hand held thermometer through the hole. Start the magnetic stirrer and the timer at the same time and measure the temperature at 30 second intervals for 2.5 minutes. At the 3 minute mark add the weighed sodium chloride into the water in the calorimeter and keep stirring. Record solution temperature every 20 seconds for 2 minutes and then every minute for 2 minutes Stop stirrer and clean calorimeter then repeat above procedure using a digital temperature probe. Plot graphs of temperature vs time for the two Extrapolate the line of best fit beyond the data points and determine the change in temperature (О”T). Use the change in temperature to calculate the change in enthalpy (О”H) in kJ per mole.
