Researchers looked closely at these hydrothermal vents where columns of dark, cloud mineral-
laden hot water pour through fissures in the sea floor. Cold water seeps downward through
cracks in the earth\'s crust and is heated by molten lava. Later, as the hydrothermal water is
forced upward, it mixes with seawater causing mineral precipitates to form that create the
chimney-like structures called black smokers. In the extreme heat and pressure, deep within
earth’s crust, sulfate is reduced to form the high-energy H-S bond. The water in these
hydrothermal vents is thus rich in hydrogen sulfide (H2S) and teams with a large numbers of
sulfur bacteria. These bacteria oxidize H2S to form H2SO4 and thereby use the energy of the
earth\'s interior (captured by H2S formation) to convert CO2 into organic nutrients.
To benefit from this process, several vent animals have established endosymbiotic relationships
with these sulfur bacteria. One of the best-researched examples is R. pachyptila. This giant
gutless tube worm consists primarily of a long, thin sac attached to a gill plume. H2S, O2, and
some CO2 molecules are absorbed through the gill plume and carried to the tissues through the
blood bound to the transport protein hemoglobin. The trophosome, the site of the redox (energy-
generating) reactions, is the animal\'s most prominent organ. It is colonized by a large number of
sulfur-oxidizing bacteria. In return for a steady supply of H2S, O2, and CO2 provided by the
tube worms\' circulatory system, the sulfur bacteria provide the organic nutrients required for the
worm\'s growth and development.

forced upward, it mixes with seawater causing mineral precipitates to form that create the
chimney-like structures called black smokers. In the extreme heat and pressure, deep within
earth’s crust, sulfate is reduced to form the high-energy H-S bond. The water in these
hydrothermal vents is thus rich in hydrogen sulfide (H2S) and teams with a large numbers of
sulfur bacteria. These bacteria oxidize H2S to form H2SO4 and thereby use the energy of the
earth\'s interior (captured by H2S formation) to convert CO2 into organic nutrients.
To benefit from this process, several vent animals have established endosymbiotic relationships
with these sulfur bacteria. One of the best-researched examples is R. pachyptila. This giant
gutless tube worm consists primarily of a long, thin sac attached to a gill plume. H2S, O2, and
some CO2 molecules are absorbed through the gill plume and carried to the tissues through the
blood bound to the transport protein hemoglobin. The trophosome, the site of the redox (energy-
generating) reactions, is the animal\'s most prominent organ. It is colonized by a large number of
sulfur-oxidizing bacteria. In return for a steady supply of H2S, O2, and CO2 provided by the
tube worms\' circulatory system, the sulfur bacteria provide the organic nutrients required for the
worm\'s growth and development.

mechanisms have been suggested for the opening and closing of stomata during water stress.
According to the first, hydro passive closure of stomata, guard cells lose water rapidly by
evaporation. Water loss cannot be balanced by water movement into the guard cells from
adjacent epidermal cells. In the second mechanism of stomatal closure, hydro active closure, a
physiological role is played by abscisic acid (ABA). Under water stress, when the whole leaf is
dehydrated, increased synthesis of ABA takes place in mesophyll cells and accumulates in the
chloroplast. Stored ABA is then released to the apoplast from where it travels to the guard cells
through the transpiration stream. Redistribution of stored ABA from the mesophyll chloroplasts
to the apoplasts initiates the closure of stomata .The net result of water stress is, therefore,
transfer of ABA from chloroplast to apoplast .Due to water stress ABA level in the leaf increases
and cell wall extensibility is reduced resulting in a decline in leaf elongation and growth due to
which the overall photosynthesis decreases in order to match the reduced requirement for
carbohydrates.

Tacit knowledge is what people carry in their minds and we find it difficult to access. There are
times we are not ourselves aware of the the knowledge we possess and also how valuable it can
turn out to be if shared with others. The transfer of tacit knowledge mainly happens through
personal contact and trust but this is considered to be very valuable. Many times this is not
shared, primarily because we are unable to communicate all we know. This knowledge is also a
very valuable input when it comes to innovations.
Explicit knowledge on the other hand, is what is documented or codifies and can be transferred
easily to others. The processes, procedures, journals, manuals, drawings or any such artifacts
come under Explicit knowledge. This is a form whereby human knowledge is externalized.
Explicit Knowledge vs. Tacit Knowledge
Explicit knowledge is searchable information that can be easily found. Users can collaborate on
the value and use of the knowledge. On the other hand, tacit knowledge is knowledge found in
people’s heads and is often difficult to share with another person by writing it down or
verbalizing it. In the knowledge communities I have worked to implement, the goal is to help
people better articulate their tacit knowledge.
After all, it’s easy to conduct a search in a knowledge community and find the company’s
standard procedures or rules on a topic, but it’s not as simple to understand specifically how
someone worked through the process or overcame challenges that arose. Not every knowledge
community shares the nuances of working through a process, though they can provide the
communication forum to explore it. That’s why understanding and working to better articulate
tacit knowledge is critical. Knowledge communities are only just starting to facilitate the
exchange of tacit knowledge.
Software solutions can be useful tools to share knowledge, but there is a component of sharing
knowledge that software simply can’t fully fulfill—sharing knowledge is a very human process..

Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling.
