Richard Deon's artwork is inspired by outdated 1950s American social studies textbooks and the book "Visualized Civics" that promoted conformity and a consensus history. Deon takes the imagery from these sources and reassembles them into new scenarios that represent the paradoxes of today's society defined by relativism and individualism. One of his goals is to deconstruct the conformity promoted in 1950s images. The exhibition features Deon's paintings, prints, and planes that recontextualize iconic figures and structures from the 1950s to comment on modern society.
