Remote Work 101
Maintain a routine
● Maintain your usual morning routine
● Keep exercising, showering, and getting dressed in “real clothes",
hair, makeup, shave, etc., just as if you were heading into the
office. Our bodies and brains are creatures of habit.
● We are creatures of habit[1]
[1] https://www.npr.org/sections/13.7/2010/09/22/130051236/the-habitual-brain
Set up a good home office
● Ideally a place with minimal distractions and
comfortable seating – especially if you don’t
already have a space setup.
● Your bed may not be the best place[1][2][3]
● Invest in reliable equipment

[3] https://www.sleepadvisor.org/remote-work-sleep/
Structure your day
● If the mornings are typically for deep working and afternoons for
emails and meetings, keep it that way when working remote
● Take breaks! Stand up, stretch, make coffee, unload the dishes,
play the guitar, take a walk. A few minutes is all it takes to refresh
the brain for the next round.
● Know when to log off!

Food!
● Stock up on hearty breakfast and lunch foods when you’re at the
grocery store. Eating out gets expensive quick, and often isn’t as
healthy as what you can make at home.

Stay connected to each other
● It can start to feel lonely after a while if you don’t make a point to
maintain social connections. Virtual coffee breaks, lunches, or
happy hours, sharing funny gifs and other photos to remind each
other we’re not alone.

Use the time to power up
● Working remote may provide margin for additional training and
continuous learning, take advantage of it!

1. Maintain a routine
2. Set up a good home office

6. Use the time to power up
What are your tips?
● Jira 8.8 landed March 19
○ Future Sprint Dates
○ Improved audit log
○ Increased accessibility opt-in at the user level - User profile -> Accessibility
● Jira 8.7
○ Anonymizing users for GDPR
○ PostgreSQL 11 support
○ OpenID Connect support
● Confluence 7.3
○ More control when editing files via Atlassian Companion - Files are listed until you choose to remove
them from the list, or restart Companion. Less invisible magic, more reliability.
○ Better permission management to troubleshoot problems, including permissions audit
○ Bulk apply (i.e. copy) permissions changes to other spaces
○ Rate limits for DC and page tree loading limits (200 pages initially at each level)
● Bitbucket server 7.1
○ Track every push to a specific branch in a repository
● Jira Service Desk 4.8
○ Bulk actions for queues
○ JSD will not detect and ignore duplicate attachments (!)
● Jira Service Desk 4.7
○ New requests private by default
○ Email verification on portal sign up
○ Agents are now agents - this can be a big deal so check upgrade notes
○ Notifications about internal activity - agents and admins acting as customer won’t receive
notifications by default, again see upgrade notes for more detail
