2. DegreeMAP is GW’s online advising tool used by
students, advisors and faculty to track progress toward
degree completion. It provides information about
degree requirements, giving students a tool to monitor
and track progress toward their degrees.
What is DegreeMAP?
3. ● Reduces the confusion about degree requirements
● Keeps track of your progress towards your degree
● Identifies unfulfilled requirements and provides
advice on how to fulfill them
● GPA calculator
● “What If” feature allows students to explore the
requirements for various degree programs to help
select the best program for your interests
Benefits of DegreeMAP

remaining degree requirements; it is used to complete
your educational planner requirement and to plan out
the courses you will take throughout your time at GW.

11. ● Once you launch DegreeMAP, click on the Planner tab.
● In the planner tool, you will see a split screen with your worksheet
ofnthe left and the planner on the right.
● Name your plan in the “Description” field as “Educational Planner” and
choose the current academic year.
● In the first planning grid, select the term for which you are planning.
Using the Planner Tool
12. Using the Planner Tool
● In the planning grid, enter the name
of the course in the left-hand column
(ex. CSCI 6212). Look at the
schedule of classes to find out the
course code, course number, and
credit hours for each course.
● Enter the number of credit hours for
the course in the right-hand side
column (e.g. 3).
● Continue to list the classes you plan
to take at GW, including both first-
choice courses and backup courses,
along with the number of credit
hours for each course.
● Click the “Save Plan” button at the
bottom of the planner.
13. DegreeMAP Reminders
● Completing your Educational Planner through DegreeMAP is a
requirement.
● If you do not complete your planner, you will receive a hold on your
account. This will prevent you from registering for classes, viewing
your transcripts, and from graduating.
● When completing the DegreeMAP planner, you need to include
classes you have already taken, classes you are currently taking,
and future classes that you will be taking.
● If you are still unsure about which classes you should be taking after
looking at your worksheet and viewing the requirements needed for
your program, please contact your academic advisor.
