Submitted by: Uzma Ijaz

5W 1H Analysis:
•Who – An 18-year old Boy
•What – Accused premeditated homicide of
his Father
•When – At Night 12:10am
•Where – in his house
 Decision type: External  Situation: Problem
1. Identifying
the situation.
• Why – An Old man living downstairs heard the
Boy saying “I’ll kill you” and heard voice of a
body falling. He moved towards the door and
saw the boy running away.
• How – The assassination took place with a knife
that the boy had bought from a shop nearby as a
gift for his friend and lost it in the way.
2. Developing
Decision Criteria.
A Jury of 12 men from different backgrounds will
decide unanimously on basis of evidences and
testimonies.
3. Generating
Alternatives.
Guilty: The apparent evidences and
testimonies give an idea of the boy being
guilty for the homicide.
Not Guilty: Juror No 8 is not satisfied and
stands for the boy being not guilty.
4. Evaluating
Alternatives.
 Following Evidences prove that the boy
is guilty:
 An old man living downstairs told that he
heard them fighting and the boy saying,
“I’ll kill you”. He heard a boy falling then
suddenly rushed to the door where he saw
the boy running down the stairs. He
immediately called the police.
A woman across the street had claimed that she had seen the
boy killing his own father. She told that she was lying on her
bed for sleep but couldn’t sleep and at almost 10 minutes past
12 at night, she looked out through the window and saw the
boy murdering his father.
The knife that was used as a weapon for the murder was
bought from a shop nearby. The shopkeeper told that it was a
rare knife and the boy had bought it from him as a gift for his
friend.
 The boy spent his life in slums and was often beaten by his
father.
CONTINUED…
Following points were discovered
afterwards that proved the boy to be
not guilty :
The old man had told that he heard
something and in almost 15 seconds
he was at the door where he saw the
boy running down the stairs.
However, for a man as old as him
such a long way could take more than
28 seconds.
It was found that the woman wore glasses.
She was not wearing glasses and when
she looked out the window to catch the
sight she did not have enough time to
wear them. So, she had just made a guess
of the killer being the boy.
The murder weapon that was said to be
rare by the shopkeeper was in fact, a
common knife. Juror 8 had easily found a
similar knife from a shop near the boy’s
house.
The boy told that at the time of
murder he was out for watching
movies. He also told that he had
bought the knife as a gift for his
friend but the Knife slipped out of
his pocket on the way.
5. Selecting The
Best Alternative.
As all evidences and testimonies are
doubtful, the boy is “Not Guilty”.
6. Implementing
The Decisions: The Jury votes for “Not Guilty”.
7. Monitoring
And Evaluating
Results
Boy is absolved on
Jury’s Decision.
