Editor's Notes
Facebook owns Instagram and shares some similarities in its algorithm. Posting at least once a day will help your posts be more visible. However, the CONTENT of your posts is most important. Your post should include:
Photo or link that generates a photo. Posts with photos get 39% more interaction! Account for 93% of the most engaging posts over links, videos and text-only posts. According to Kissmetrics,
You are having the opposite problem of most people – you are not advertising your own services enough. You should have at least one post per week advertising your services. You have good, informative content from which people see benefit, but if I didn’t know you, I wouldn’t know you were a nutritionist just from your content. Remember, most people don’t go to your Facebook page where it says you are a nutrition therapist – they only see your content! I suggest you make a library of weekly tips and schedule them to post every week on the most optimal day, which your social media expert can find out from Insights on Facebook.
For your specific business, it is imperative to have a small, but consistent Facebook advertising budget. Your content is good, but very few people are seeing it on Facebook, where your ideal audience (moms with money and time) is! Spreading the word by investing as little as $50 per month can get your content in front of more people. Of course, you have to be careful not to waste your money and set up the advertisements properly.
For network marketing companies, especially those in wellness, Facebook, Pinterest and Instagram are best. Both allow you to not only spread news about your product, but to document your story and change in lifestyle. Additionally, they hold you “responsible” for accomplishing what you announced you would do. However, from personal experience, you also have to be careful not to get caught up in what you would like to genuinely achieve and what you would like for others to think you have achieved.
Hashtag research can be performed by looking at each platform’s most popular links. Twitter has the “trending” section.
Like anything, just start. Start your profiles and fill them out FULLY. A profile that is not fully filled out looks unprofessional and is less likely to attract followers and engagement. You have to find your own style and don’t try too hard to imitate someone else.
Use a professional image as well as a professional tone. Treat this as your online resume. Do your best not to use capital letters, excessive amounts of exclamation marks, etc. It helps to post daily, as it does push you higher through LinkedIn’s algorithm.
Pinterest is great for both beauty and wellness, however it is the most difficult network to gain engagement and a following on. Therefore, you really have to be into it. Pinterest consists of creating boards with a specific topic and posting relevant images onto it. You can and should post links where people can find more information. The more people you follow, the more likely those users are to follow you.
Facebook’s algorithm is based on user interaction, therefore the more you interact with the user or vice versa, the more likely they will see your posts.
If you have the option, you can unfollow them, which they will not be notified of. It will decrease how much information you see from them. You can click on the menu of one of their posts and select “I don’t like this post.” You will be taken through options to “See less from this individual / company”
In order to grab someone’s attention, your posts should be short. They rarely should involve “Read More”. However, when they do, they should compel someone to click “Read more” by being borderline scandalous. Think – what makes you click “Read More”? Then, use that.

Is it more important to post frequently (even if it's reposting relevant articles) or just when we have something to post that is specific to our company?
By posting more frequently, you do two things: activate the algorithm in your favor and put your brand in front of more people ( your logo / name appears every time you post something – anything). However, it is just as important to post genuine content that demonstrates, not sells your company. You should 90% engaging content and 10% direct sales (ex. 10% OFF)
