TO WHOM THIS MAY CONCERN:
Ms. Karen Walters has a Bachelor’s degree in business marketing. I find her to be a very bright, capable
and respectful individual.
Karen has worked with the New Jersey Small Business Development Centers (NJSBDC) network,
headquartered at the Rutgers Business School, since June 2011. She was hired as a “Program
Coordinator” and assisted me on an array of projects including production of the NJSBDC newsletter bi-
annually, preparation of the annual Small Business Growth Awards Luncheon program book, the
maintenance of our constant contact list, and other special mailing lists for press release distribution to
media and partners.
Ms. Walters is very skilled and knowledgeable about computer and technology communications. She
acted as a liaison with our external website development company and also was in charge of posting
content and updates on the statewide network’s official website. She provided assistance on a project
involving the transition and creation of a newly designed website for network services and other
initiatives. In addition, she provided periodic reports on hits to our website and helped post items on
social media for program advertising and promotion. She was also responsible for ensuring that new
visitors to our website, who joined the mailing list, were appropriately referred to our network’s 12
centers so that these individuals could become small business clients of the network.
She provided technical support for our long distance learning program (webinars) and helped build strong
webinar participation attendance levels due to email web blasts promotional marketing activities enabling
increased program income. She ensured that those participants received evaluations and she maintained
evaluations for auditing purposes as well as for collection of testimonials for marketing objectives. She
also assisted our MIS manager with surveys of clients, following up by phone to obtain responses, if
necessary.
Karen’s knowledge and technology/computer/technical skills are an asset to organizational
communications, and similar such objectives, especially at a time when these tools are in demand and
most needed in the workplace.
Sincerely,
Deborah Smarth
