It is my pleasure to write this letter of recommendation for Scott Semchenko. Having worked with him
closely in his capacity as a para educator, I find Scott to be a compassionate, competent, caring person who
utilizes these qualities to provide the best supports for students. He has demonstrated professionalism and
attention to detail in his job, and he has been a pleasure to have as a para educator.
Scott is able to manage a number of roles and responsibilities in the classroom, and he has established
productive relationships with his coworkers as well. Working with a variety of classroom teachers and
students has helped him to develop communication skills and contribute toward creating a positive
environment in the classroom and in the school. He has most recently worked as an individual para
educator for a sixth grade student who is included in the general education curriculum with his support.
As a para educator, Scott has maintained the difficult balance of setting high standards for students while
providing them with the support they need to be successful. While working with students, Scott has
modified assignments, provided classroom accommodations, and established an environment where
students feel safe. In my classroom observations of Scott, he has demonstrated the ability to connect with
students on a personal level in order to gain their trust. Having accomplished this, he is then able to assist
them with their academic challenges.
Scott has illustrated his desire to make the Hingham Middle School a better place every day with his
enthusiasm and willingness to become an active part of the community. He volunteered to help with the
school musical by building sets and providing behind the scenes support for weeks leading up to this event.
He has also facilitated an intramural volleyball activity after school that has proven to be popular with the
students due to his commitment and positive attitude.
