1 INTRODUCTION TO DCVAST
dcVAST was founded 22 years ago as a service company to provide IT services and infrastructure
management that reduces customers’ costs and improves operational efficiency. Headquartered in
Downers Grove, Illinois, dcVAST’s Customer Support Services offers services to the vast majority of
its customers with a “high touch” model in four hours or less—answered by only senior level
personnel—and covers issues in licensing, servers, or storage. DcVAST offers support services,
hardware and software products from such partners such as Symantec, Oracle, RedHat, and Dell to
name a few.
DCVAST MANAGED SERVICES
Started off as a Sun Microsystems fire alarm service, dcVAST delivered on-site support and Call
Center support around the Sun Microsystems Operating System and Software suite. The company then
took on another role with Symantec by not only providing Call Center support but also professional
services for Symantec’s high-availability product suites.
For the last two years dcVAST has been operating its Call Center on a high-level touch support
system which enables closer contact to their customers so they can deliver that high touch support
using their Call Center and own internal set-up,
DCVAST PRIVATE STORAGE CLOUD BACKGROUND AND UNIQUE CAPABILITIES
Today, many companies offering storage and services in the cloud are performing cloud initiatives
that cannot tell where their data is going to be physically located from one day to the next, where it is
replicating, and so on.
To meet these needs, dcVAST started offering their private cloud storage or server solutions that are
defined as isolated, custom-built and unique to each customer, and are custom-built that can be taken
as a solution to place elsewhere or even bring it back in-house.
Furthermore, dcVAST custom-built cloud solution includes server-based computing and storage in a
private cloud vault that utilizes their data center suite. dcVAST architects or designs a private cloud as
a virtual private cloud that can access and control the entire infrastructure, including operating
systems, servers, storage, applications, and backup recovery—virtually or physically.
The unique capabilities of the dcVAST private storage cloud include bandwidth with and without
replications, levering the company’s expertise and experience in managing this infrastructure.
2 DCVAST CHALLENGES AND REQUIREMENTS
Having started building Infrastructure-as-a-Service or Private Cloud Computing about two years ago,
dcVAST wanted to grow its footprint into the storage cloud by looking for a product line that was easy
to scale, cost-effective, and had the ability to perform at the enterprise level.
WHY DCVAST CHOSE HUAWEI PRIVATE STORAGE CLOUD SOLUTION
dcVAST was looking at solutions for these challenges that encompassed a unified storage platform
that was used for the whole data center, from cloud initiative and high-speed computing around data
center services to enabling customers to access either remotely or locally their data center.
The decision to choose Huawei’s N8300 series was easy. Huawei achieved higher points across all
base points, including its capabilities, flexibilities, functionalities, performance metric, as well as total
cost of ownership. Additionally, its integration with the Huawei Symantec Platform, namely
NetBackup and Enterprise Vault, was one of the key initiatives behind the dcVast Call Center.

These are the environments dcVAST is managing today and support on a day-to-day basis with their
